This has become such a staple for me. Some weeks I'll go to The Sweet Potato everyday, sometimes to pick up some groceries, other times just for a bag of sweet potato chips. It still surprises me just how much stuff they have, from candy, to treats, to nuts and teas to veggies, fruits and meats. It's been open for a few years now and it's still fun for me to visit and look at all the different items they stock. Some things are not on my diet, but many of them are interesting. Their front stall outside of the shop does a good job of tempting me to pick up extra goods too, which I don't mind. The staff are typically pretty friendly, they might have a few hipster cashiers which can smile more and have more of a friendly tone, but most of them are fine. They've done a ton of renovations in the last little while and it's help the store. It's not as crowded anymore, plus the cash register is no longer such a bottleneck. read more

I used to shop here a lot when I worked in the junction. They definitely have quality produce, and they often have great deals on their overstock. Sometimes I love coming to this store just to go. You can smell the fresh veggies and fruit and I swear I learn about new products every time I go here. My love for hemp hearts came from this place! Yes, it is more on the expensive side but worth it when it comes to some of your food sensitivities and/or can afford to splurge a little. Also, if you follow their website or visit every once in a while they do have specials. Just last week they were selling Chocolate Almond Milk, 5 for $10. I have purchased Amy's soups from here and they were delicious! The veggies are always fresh and there are a variety of health bars you can choose from. I have been a loyal customer for the past 10 years spending hundreds of dollars weekly at this store however i will never shop here again! Recently I have found the customer service appalling and i will share 2 incidents. A young white girl with long blonde hair was cashing me out and when i said i needed bags she proceeded to tell her colleague who was bagging my groceries that plastic bags don't decompose and are so bad for the environment deliberately to make me feel guilty for requesting them. I usually bring my own reuseable bags but i had used them at a different grocery store on that date. On another occasion I was told very rudely by a staff member(black lady with red braids) that "the carts do not go outside" and then walked away and did not offer any assistance! I went to nofrills before visiting this place and both of these places sell some of the same brands but sweet potato's sells it surprisingly cheaper than the nofrills! I love this place not because of the prices, they have lots of unique organic products. I'm definitely coming back. read more

I will be the first to admit that I'm pretty easily impressed by little health food stores, but this grocery store has amazing selection at great prices. They have all of the usual local, gluten-free, vegetarian/vegan brands. The Nature's Path cereal is well-priced at $3.99 a box and almond milk was on sale - two cartons for $5! They have a wide selection of organic teas, including Stash and a few other brands. They sell Kicking Horse coffee beans, and serve their own brewed coffee for $1.00. Organic produce seemed much cheaper than the usual grocery store. Apples were $1.29/pound. I noticed their organic frozen vegetables were also fairly cheap at $2.99 a bag. Frozen edamame was two bags for $5 - so many promos! They carry all of the usual frozen/packaged food brands like Amy's, Yves and Tofurkey. For you carnivores, they have a small selection of meat that is brought in from a local farm. They also have a huge selection of all-natural health and beauty and cleaning products. I eat a ton of produce in a given week, so I don't usually buy it at the Sweet Potato (unless it's on sale, which happens frequently) because even though it's reasonably priced for local and/or organic and/or fair trade, it would add up a bit too quickly. However, it's usually my first stop when shopping for grains (multiple types of rice and rice blends, quinoa, millet, oats, barley etc.), natural cleaning products when vinegar just won't cut it, preservative-free breads, natural sweeteners (agave nectar and stevia), and vegan protein options (tempeh, all kinds of tofu, Tofurky and a bunch of Yves products). All of this stuff costs noticeably less than at comparable organic stores, and without any of the pretension. The Sweet Potato also stocks a fair amount of delicious baked goods, ranging from dessert breads and cakes to individually wrapped organic muffins and bars, and there's also a fridge with a small selection of ready-to-eat salads, wraps and sandwiches for those days when you're in a rush or not in the mood to prepare something yourself. Definitely beats the No Frills around the corner! read more

I was happy with the size and selection of this store and the prices weren't bad. I would have liked a better meat selection, but given the size of the store, it was acceptable. The store was a little crowded which made navigating the aisles a bit of a challenge but I guess that just says they are doing something right to draw in the crowds. read more

best health food store in the city , and yes i am finally willing to admit that its better than EOL . what is so wonderful about this store is that it is well organized , well stocked , nicely designed and with all that the prices are still really good . we have basically bought all of our groceries from here for the past 2 years , occasionally augmented by no frills when i just have to have some hellmans mayo . they have a really great selection of pretty much everything you might be looking for , as well as stuff you might not expect to find like the organic parmesan reggiano they carry (so good) . the produce section is what really puts them ahead of EOL , and they have so much organic stuff that is usually hard to find (like endive , green beans , blood oranges , etc) the produce staff seem a bit surly at times but thats well balanced out by the supremely friendly cashiers - a sign of a very smart hiring policy imo ! it is currently taking them forever to switch around their fridges and shelving , but so far i am liking most of the changes so the confusion seems to be worth it . love this place , and will be so so sad to leave it when we move out of the junction ... hoping that they open another location thats a bit more central in the future ! read more

I love it here. I have noticed that their vegetable broth is cheaper than Metro. I usually buy my toothpaste, bar soap, ice cream cones (which are really yummy!), pasta, cheddar bunnies, bunny fruit snacks, kimchi and other items here. Not bad for the price. Organic coconut milk is 2 for $5. They also sell organic chocolate hazelnut spread, yum! and marshmellows too! The staff are really friendly and helpful. I just love coming here. read more

My favourite grocery store in the city! Excellent staff, great product selection, competitive prices on most packaged speciality goods and sales well worth checking out. This was my post from few weeks ago: I usually happy with store selection is great, staff is friendly and they are proudly organic. Except today... I was REALLY REALLY upset when I read "organic seedless watermelon" It's paradox, seedless watermelon is genetically modified organism or GMO. I was curious about so I asked how can it be both. I was told that "it was grown that way" I'm calling BULLSH*T. I assure you all no way of growing it will ever get the seeds out!!! Not cool Sweet Potato, not cool. Well after some more research I have apologize to "Sweet Potato". What started out as a place for occasional grocery needs, turned into our main source of organic foods.

Simply put, if you need produce in the junction, look no further. Their organic and where possible local produce costs just 10% more than non-organic at Maple Leaf Gardens Loblaws... or if you shop organic, at MLG, you'll come out WAY ahead. Every time we've gone, we've stocked up and not even come close to what we budgeted... and to be honest, we're just feeling a lot better with more fruits and veggies in our diet. If you have a difficult vegetarian or vegan to cook for, try the Field Roast Italian sausage... they go amazingly with eggs, pasta, or just on a bun with some cheese. Delish. read more

It's a bit sad that the owner would choose that location given that there's no parking. Clearly no consideration was given to the residents of that location who have "to pay" for street parking. Now the patrons of The Sweet Potato" will take up limited parking space while, those who pay for parking, struggle to find a place to park after a long day at work and a tedious drive home. This is a great place to get organic and healthier choices for food. The staff is very energetic and friendly which is a nice change from the usual grocery store nastiness. They have a lot of snack food and treats which is very tempting. Raw chocolate is a fave. They made some take out food that is also excellent. Potato salad, fresh salads and even some raw salads with kelp noodles. Sometimes it gets really busy and the line-ups are slow but the wait is worth it. read more

I love the Sweet Potato! I am so happy that this place exists. They have a wonderful selection of organic produce and shelves stocked with all kinds of exciting options for health conscious humans. Gluten free, superfoods, nuts and seeds in bulk, sheep and goat dairy selections along with all kinds of dairy free options, non toxic cleaning supplies plus in house organic made salads and soups. They don't have everything all the time, and sometimes they do sell out of staples but I think that is understandable for a small independent grocery shop offering such a special selection. It's nice to know that they are stocking what is more readily available for the season. I appreciate that even in the winter they offer a good selection of locally made produce and that despite everything being organic and premium, there are still deals to be had!
