The sweet read is this adorable neighborhood friendly use bookstore/ bakery located in the heart of downtown woodstock. It's an acute little a vintage house. In all the time where the floor creaks and in every squeak of the door is like a warm greeting from all those who have passed through. They have a little bit of everything in terms of books. Most of their books are books that you wouldn't necessarily find in a conventional bookstore. Books like collector's encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain or five lessons on the modern fundamentals of golf by Ben Hogan. All the baked goods are baked in the house. I especially enjoyed their Lavender cake which i'm told is made from lavender flower and not the syrup. It's a must try. They also buy use books. The food and drink variety is great! Anything from quiches and scones to muffins and cinnamon rolls. They even have a gluten free muffin option. I got the frozen coffee and it was delicious and a huge and yummy cinnamon roll. I like that you can heat up your food yourself or add any additional syrups yourself. The book variety was alright, but it was fun to peruse at least read more

Situated in a single family home, Nice and cozy reading spot, they have all sorts of books to choose from and this place has a great variety ranging from food to old time classics. There is coffee and sweets along with some quiches. It's not big but the books and cranny's provide some seating to sit and rest the waters of a book you may want to purchase. read more

They have a pretty interesting variety of books... admittedly it's a little disorganized, but the place is cozy and nicely decorated. They sell stickers. The young girl working the bar brought us our treats right to us as we read, and gave me a recommendation for which latte to order upon request and which i enjoyed. I wish we had had more time to look around but I would definitely like to come back to see more of it. read more

The cafe counter is right there if you are just popping in for a beverage. They out source their baked items to a local woman. I'm still daydreaming of the raspberry coffee cake crumble highbred I chose. For coffee lovers there is a syrup bar with dozens of choices. Picked up some books to read, to craft, and to gift. My out of town friend and I sat in a middle room and reveled in the respite from the world. Love local and love this place. Ladies who run it are there for you. Browse thousands of books. Sip some tea or coffee. Indulge in a yummy treat. This is a wonderful bookstore and bakery in an old house (former tearoom) made up of several small rooms. The baked goods don't have the finesse of a European bakery; they look and taste more like what your Aunt Rose would serve at home with afternoon tea. The quiche has a nice texture but is small. The Bundt cakes are a bit dry. The scones are pretty good. They do have some gluten-free options which I appreciate. The coffee is nice, and you can request a mug if you hate those disposable take-out cups everybody's using these days. Go through the front door and straight ahead to place your counter order first. The size of your drink has a literary name. I really enjoyed the London fog tea on my first visit, but it was way too weak/watery on my second try. Proceed to your right (opposite the cash register) to find a microwave and all the coffee fixings and syrups. This is also where you will return your dishes. There are two tables to sit at, but they are usually covered in books/displays. There are a few comfy chairs and sofas, but you'll need to snag one quickly. The prices of the used books are decent, and they have some nice antiquarian finds as well. Books and baked goods and a hot beverage just belong together, don't they? read more

What a precious little place! If you want to relax, hide out, grab some coffee, eat a treat, read, reminisce the good ole days of Tea Leaves and Thyme, this is your place! We sure enjoyed an afternoon getting lost in the books , the latte was delish, wasn't too hot but their sugar stand has a microwave so I could heat to my liking, the treats looked so good will have to try next time. The service was friendly and the books are 15,000 plus. She said they buy books too! Enjoy, turning the pages one at a time! read more

I absolutely love this place. It's a great change of pace when you're looking for a good sit down spot then your average coffee house. There are several different rooms with different genres of books to choose from. You can order a specialty drink or build your own coffee or tea with their wide variety of flavored syrups. I had been following The Sweet Read on Instagram for a few months and finally ventured down to the store in September. The store is in a quaint building filled to the brim with used books. I actually really wanted to try some of their baked goods, but I waited in the cafe for a while and didn't encounter an associate to help me. I wandered around to see if I could find any children's books or novels that I was interested in purchasing and was surprised by the pricing. Older used books cost the same amount or more than what they could be purchased for online. Though I love supporting local and frequently pay more for items in Downtown Woodstock shops vs. online, I don't believe a used item should ever cost significantly more than a new. For that reason, I don't plan on returning in the future. read more

Don't sell your books here. I wanted to so badly to love this place. It's charming and cozy and creative. But trust me when I tell you that it's actually disorganized and unprofessional. I called twice to check the status of my books and was told they were definitively not evaluated yet ("the manager is out of town"..."the manager has a lot of books to get through") and a third time was told "I don't see your name on the list and our manager isn't here right now, but she knows where they are." I was a little disappointed, wishing i had taken my books to another business instead. I'd been assured in one of my first calls that they would notify me when they were checked and would not get rid of them. I waited until the holidays had passed and called again. "Not sure where your books are but my manager will call you." The next day I get a call that they've donated my books--they "tried to reach me and leave a voicemail" and eventually got rid of them. They claimed they had gone through my order back before I had even placed the 2nd of my 4 phone calls. And they seemed disbelieving of ME when I assured them that I have a working voicemail and would have seen any message because I had been impatiently WAITING for it. Don't worry, they offered me a few extra dollars to compensate for their unprofessional behavior. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Super cute place to chill out and look at books. The cakes and pastries were all fresh and handmade and the people working there were very kind. I will say if you're looking to buy very inexpensive books (like $1-$3) I would go somewhere like Goodwill cause the books at The Sweet Read range from $5-$15, but it's a really cute spot with a good vibe! read more

The Sweet Read is a quaint, historical home turned bookshop and cafe. Filled to the brim with books on every subject, this shop is a book lover's dream come true! Winding around the various rooms with my three year old, we discovered comfy seats, dainty coffee tables, solid tables for studying, and even a children's space with armchairs that my son called "just right." An instinctive quiet and calm rests over much of the space, which even my young one recognized as he whispered his way to the cafe. While traffic pattern within the cafe is a little confusing, the shop offers an interesting array of baked goods, brewed coffee and espresso. With the syrups, milk, half and half, and creamer set up around the corner, all you have to do is order your base coffee and then take your time deciding the flavor. Among other blends, this shop serves American-made Black Rifle Co. coffee, which sets them head and shoulders above anyone else in the area (at least, in my humble opinion). I look forward to browsing the shelves again as I sip on my coffee and watch my children learn to enjoy good books. read more
