I needed a birthday cake for a 75th birthday of two cousins. Many bakeries I contacted did not do sheet cakes but it wasn't an issue for the Sweet Spot. As it was a birthday cake for two people, I had different request for each individual and they nailed the decorations! Each person really appreciated "their" side of the cake. I feel like the baker really understood what I was looking for and I think she appreciated having some "artistic license" in the decorating. The cake was quite good and the lemon filling and buttercream frosting were commented on by several folks. OMG, they are so good. Staff is always pleasant and helpful and fun. Marvelous place. Too many baked goods are over-sweetened or loaded down with animal fat frostings, here the excellent flavors of the baked goods are allowed to take precedence. I needed a custom cake made for my friend's themed birthday so I submitted an inquiry on The Sweet Spot's website. They reached out to me within a week or so with a quote - I ended up needing a bigger cake and wanted to change the flavor, and Mary Jo was very accommodating of both requests. The cake was ready to go when I requested it and it looked FANTASTIC!!! My friend absolutely loved it and we all loved the flavor of the vanilla cake and buttercream - a couple guests told me the taste reminded them of pancakes, in a good way. Seriously??? Being new to the immediate area, I was very excited to try this bakery. It was late Friday morning and I was going to go to De Etta's bakery but thought I'd give this place a try. I should've known from three steps in it was going to be a total flop. There was almost zero inventory! I wanted a coffee cake for a guest I was entertaining later that day. However all they had was some decorated cookies, a couple (3) pound cakes and several cupcakes. They were stale and hard as a crusty used sponges I bake from scratch and know these had to be nearly a week old!! My bad for not asking, "How old are your goods?!" I grew up going tobudget bakeries for "day-old" goods and I can accept that but I mean c'mon now certainly not $36 good! Beware... the baker clearly does NOT double check for details. I have sent a paragraph describing how I'd like my cake to be customized along with a inspiration photo and the name and age. Confirmed multiple times via message and through phone calls with Chris. Arrived day of pick up. The cake was covered up and ready to go. Luckily I asked for a photo of the cake before I left with the cake....Come to find out there were multiple mistakes made...the age was "7" instead of "1". And I feel like he didn't even fix the number just shaped it differently to make it look like a 1. And the name was misspelled... luckily details were in fondant and it was easy to fix. There were missing beach balls around the cake as well. If Chris was not there to fix the issue I wouldn't even pay a dime for the cake. Overall, cake tasted ok too dry and crumbly. Customer experience did not exceed expectation and the baker clearly needs to have an eye for details. I would not recommend this business and I do not plan to book future events with this baker. Brand new bakery and sweet shop opened up in the neighborhood so we had to check it out. Everything looked wonderful. For starters we should grabbed a croissant and the Monkey Bread. Both were great. It was a moderately busy with a line that consisted of three customers ahead of us and a patron already seated enjoying his iced Starbucks drink. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We purchased a chocolate cherry bomb, tiramisu and two chocolate chip cookies. The chocolate cherry bomb (mini chocolate bundt cake with a light glazing of chocolate ganache and cherry on top) was very dry and had to throw out, the tiramisu was delicious and the chocolate chip cookies were my favorite! A little disappointed to have to give a local business only three stars. Many people recommended this bakery to me, and I read Yelp reviews before going and agreed it would be a great place. I sadly had a not- so- great experience. I went here to order a cake. I was only one of two customers in the bakery. The employee (who I think might also be the owner) was sitting at a table socializing with the other customer when I came in. Not talking business or ordering or anything. I had to wait five minutes until she got up from sitting to come even talk to me. I could have still given this bakery five stars despite my first experience, but when I picked up my cake I was again disappointed. The top tier was shifted off the bottom tier, making the whole cake slanted. The icing was dry so I could tell it had been like that since it was made and they just didn't fix it. Because the cake was slanted, the back part of the frosting was stuck on the box and the color smeared all over the white frosting. The frosting colors are also totally clashing, one part being red and one being burgundy. When I picked it up the lady told me they dyed some buttercream in an attempt to match the piping icing (which was red). She said it came out burgundy instead of red like they intended... So why they didn't try to fix the color and decided it looked fine, I don't know. Obviously it wasn't their first choice but I guess it was good enough for them. I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt and think maybe they were so busy they just didn't have time to fix anything, or something else to explain why this bakery delivered less than expected. read more
