Probably one of the Top 5 Taco places in San Diego... and that says a lot since we have thousands! Who cares about ambience when it comes to tacos! I ordered the el pastor tacos- they were flavorful, fresh, (the tortillas are hand made there) and not too oily, I specifically travel around looking for the best el pastor tacos I got like a thing for them right now.. anyways these were damn good tacos! Da Bomb. Ordered Baja Fish Taco and the Carna Asada Steak Taco. Soft tortilla and juicy meats. Would visit many more times.

Tasty tacos. The flavors were great, albeit a bit on the saltier side. The paper thin fresh corn tortillas and creamy cilantro salsa were fantastic. Skimpy tacos. While it tasted good, the portions were small like mini 2-3" tacos. They flatten the tortilla and it looks like a 4-5" taco, but they pinch the ends flat and don't fill it, so the amount of protein in the pic is literally all the protein, nothing stacked behind that. The Baja fish taco was also mostly batter. I usually eat two tacos per meal, but would need four here. Long wait times. We thought we got lucky and only had one order before us. But turns out there was a huge backlog, and it took 40 minutes to get our order. They were up front that there was a 20-25 minute wait, so we browsed Mark Wahlberg's Municipal store next door. Indoor air conditioned and outdoor seating was plentiful with quick turnover. Overall, good tacos, but not really worth the wait and the value is not quite there. read more

I cannot hype this location up enough! Everything is made with such high-quality ingredients--you can truly taste the difference. The service is always top-notch, and don't even get me started on the flavors--they never miss! If you're cruising down S Coast Hwy and like me, looking for a delicious spot to eat, look no further than The Taco Stand. A very popular restaurant with casual atmosphere and delicious food. First let's talk location. It's walking distance from the beach, making it a perfect spot to get lunch, linner (lunchdinner) or just dinner. They are located on a fairly busy road and get busy and stay busy all the time. Parking is very limited, so plan accordingly. Now the food. They have a very good selection of food. From tacos to burritos to quesadillas to special menu items not listed, they are sure to satisfy all of your craving for a good Mexican dish. I had three of their tacos on this trip. Al pastor, pollo asado and camaron (spicy shrimp). The tacos had really good flavor, the meats were seasoned well and the garnishes inside provided a good taste profile. To my taste the al pastor taco was a little dry, but the cilantro and pineapple helped to bring it home. Overall the place is a great spot for delicious Mexican food. Just be ready to wait a long time for your food. They do tend to get busy and stay busy and it's not uncommon for the food to take 20-30 minutes to get to you. read more

Gave the taco stand a go tonight. Arrived about 6:30pm with just a small crowd and line to order. The menu is very simple, with tacos and burritos and a couple other options such as fries, chips/guacamole, and churros/corn. They also have a couple beers in bottles and also sodas in bottles. Short wait in line to order a California and carne asada burrito and one carne asada taco. Outdoor seating has heaters going, which was great. Again, food came out decently fast. A quick look at the taco, and I thought, "Uh oh." It has a big hole in it, seeming to be missing half the meat, and I was right. This was a $5 two-bite taco. Yikes. On to the burritos. Couldn't identify which burrito was which but did guess right. The burritos were also on the smaller side, but I can see why, as they are $10 each. Burritos were pretty good other than size. The salsas definitely added to the flavor, especially the cilantro salsa. Overall just an okay experience but the quality of ingredients was good. They seem to need one more worker helping the cashier to clean tables and attend the salsa bar to keep it stocked. 3.5 stars read more

The girl at the register got my name wrong......I said "Baker" as in my last name and somehow this crazy girl hears "viper" yes like the fucking snake. She didnt ask me to repeat my name or anything she really typed "VIPER" into the damn keyboard. The tacos are decent in both flavor and portion. And I love that they have a small menu. Salsa was decent, nothing spectacular. My biggest hangup with this place is the terrible bean and cheese burrito! I have two little kids and we go out to eat every now and then and I go for the tacos but they hate this sloppy, inconsistent, runny bean burrito. Please please please fix this terrible item on your menu. Or do something else. I absolutely love bean and cheese burritos, but unfortunately, yours is one of the worst. Normally there is a line out each The Taco Stand in San Diego and this was the least busy one I've ever walked by and into. - FOOD: good - PRICE: uhm ok - SERVICE: quick - AMBIANCE: in and out eatery with very dirty tables :: ORDER :: AL PASTOR TACO ($3.95) - I do enjoy carved meat with some pineapple but I think I prefer carne asada over this. They aren't shy filling your normal size (not street size) tacos with a bit of everything. RECOMMEND CARNE ASADA ($4.95) - the preferred and the best one on the menu. Is it my favorite taco ever? Absolutely NOT. But it's good. I like their tortilla - it's. Freshly made and tastes good with good texture. Again, they are not shy filling the foods and my taco felt like it was about to erupt before I could even take a bite. HIGHLY RECOMMEND (with alot of fresh squeezed lime) CHURROS - 3 pieces and freshly fries. First time ordering this. Let's say the churros are couple inches long snd dense. I give the Taco Stand a 4.5/5 (rounded up to 5 stars) Seating is limited, food is not quick.....(but they forewarned us about that), and the menu is a bit hard to read. lol But the positives massively outweigh the negative!! The shrimp taco was FAB - but the al pastor was meh...the asada was delish, and the chips and quac were yummy! But man, the star really was the elotes...I could've eaten 3 of them!! So good. Tried this place out yesterday for the first time. Food was incredible. Very flavorful and well seasoned. Best California burrito I've ever had. Everything was great except for a few things: 1. The wait time. We waited 45 minutes to order and 15 minutes for the food to be handed to us, so an hour total. I know they're busy but idk there has to be another more efficient way to get the line going faster. Especially bc I noticed the guy taking the orders was also in charge of packaging chips / announcing orders from time to time. I can imagine that must be overwhelming for one person causing the line to go out the door. 2. The workstation for the employees was very crowded and kind of messy. I know they're working hard and I appreciate them and thanked them as well but a clean work station matters just as much as the food does. 3. When I got my order it was lukewarm at best. Not hot and fresh. Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely delicious but I would've enjoyed it way more if it was hotter temperature wise. 4. The cleanliness of the inside seating area could use some work. Also they didn't seem to have much time to refill the sauce area either until another customer asked. Over all I had a good experience but I think this location could benefit from better management to keep the lines flowing faster and the work areas clean and presentable. 4/5 experience! read more

Great food and great prices. My go to here is the al pastor burrito. It is as good as a burrito gets. The decor is pretty minimal, but it's still a nice place to enjoy a meal. The taco stand serves fresh favorites. I always get the fish burrito, which has a nice large piece of grilled fresh fish and lots of fresh vegetables inside. If you haven't tried their Mexican street corn it's a really delicious and a treat you can't get very many places. But the best thing on their menu in my opinion are their churros! These warm, crunchy cinnamon-ey treats never make it home when we get take out, because they're irresistible hot from the fryer. Seriously the best treat I've ever tasted! But you gotta eat them hot! The staff are warm and friendly, with eye-contact and smiles. Plus, I love the clean, modern take on traditional taco shop decor. Nice paintings, fun art on the napkin holders. I hate leaving bad reviews. I despise people who do... however, every great once in a while, there is an experience so bad that deserves attention, I hope that they learn and improve from this bc I would love to be able to change my review in the future if I decide to take the risk and visit again. Food - good overall, nothing special or unique in flavor or presentation but good. Food alone is a solid 7.5/10. I wouldn't be opposed to eating there again but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it. It definitely wouldn't be a first choice. Service - terrible experience, 0/10. Asked for food to go, they prepped it for dine in and then when I told them it was supposed to be "to go" the guy puts his hands directly on the food (not just the tortilla but the meat / guac) and lumps it into the to go wrapping... we ordered a bean n cheese for my son, it was not in the bag so by the time we got home I had to go back out and find something else for the kid to eat after already spending time and money on the bean n cheese they forgot to give us. Also ordered chips & guac. They gave us guac w no chips... Also, the waiting time for the food was 45 Mins! Vibe - seems chaotic, not a lot of seating, staff is unhelpful and appears to be overwhelmed. I really wanted to like this place especially being a MW fan but unfortunately this was not a good experience. I'm mostly upset that when I got home my kids food wasn't there. No problem Charging me $80 for a few tacos and a burrito but didn't have the decency to craft a good experience and ensure that minimum expectations are met for their customers. I predict it will be trendy for a bit, but those of who live here in So Cal and spend a ridiculous price to do so, aren't going to waste our time and money on places that don't create good experiences. With that being said, I don't see this place being there for very long. Even if MW is his own LL, your burn cap only lasts so long which means eventually they'll be forced to make cuts and adjustments in quality which never bring back profits, it's a slippery slope from there. In short, put people's food in the bag, Train and develop staff, invest in your business or don't expect to have one for very long. read more

Very disappointed in the food I received today. I ordered takeout today @ 7:12pm and did not receive it till 7:48pm, which wasn't that big of deal to me because I was expecting good food due to the reviews on Yelp and I actually received the opposite. I ordered two carne asada fries, one order of churros, and one Baja taco. What I received was nothing of what is advertised, when I got home to eat with my child we were missing sour cream on one of our fries and the guacamole on both fries was bad already, it was honestly inedible. My 10 year old was very hungry after that long wait so I had to scoop out that side of the food in order for him to eat what was salvageable. I checked on the taco and the breading fell off the fish, everything was disassembled and was cold to the touch, I had to throw it away. The churros were okay, I'm not sure how many come in an order as it was my first time there but I only received three small pieces. I've seen pictures on here where people have received six. It's Easter Sunday and I understand how busy places can get but I truly think there's no excuse to serve that quality of food to anyone. I won't be returning ever. read more

I think the only thing that I would say on all my families orders that could be worked on, is that the tortillas (on both burritos and tacos) need to be warmed up. They were all cold. Maybe it was sitting out too long before serving it to us? Flavor was good on everything, and the sauces were good! I also liked the taste of the Al Pastor. It tasted sweet from the pineapple! 8/10 Location, I mean, it's on coast hwy so it's pretty! The space is clean. High chairs available for kids.
