Finally visited Cocina Del Mar after always seeing it popup on Yelp or Google Maps. Our defacto go-to standard for Mexican food has always been Mariscos Huatulco. They have the best molcajete and fajitas around, at the best prices. We are here just to see if Cocina Del Mar is better. Long story short: it's not. However, their ceviche is AMAZING. Best ceviche I have had in north county San Diego outside of Dija Mara (which has the best ceviche in the known universe). It is extremely fresh and not overpowered by acidity, fishy smells or rubbery shrimp. The ceviche here is legit. Great. AND ONLY $10 (for cameron). If you order anything here, get the ceviche first. I'm anxious to try their aguachile now. We also ordered the fajitas ("suprema" with chicken, steak and shrimp). Fajitas did not come out sizzling at all. I have never seen this before. Also, there were only two shrimp. The steak/carne was bland and dry. Not great. Wife ordered the Sopes (3) and mother ordered the Enchiladas Cameron. The sopes were okay, but a bit bland. Wife had to salt everything on the plate. The enchiladas had a sauce my mom said was too sweet. She wasn't a fan. For all three dishes to be a miss is completely strange considering the sheer number of 5-star reviews. I want to believe. We must have come on an off-day, but the place was busy. Quite a few larger parties were here, so this place is popular with the natives. We also grabbed a Model and a Corona. Only $5 for the beers! Total for everything came to $117.64 (with tip). We had a party of 6 people and there was no crowd on a Tuesday evening. The place in located in Oceanside on Douglas, north of the highway 76. Everyone was pleased with their meals. We ordered from basic chicken enchiladas to ceviche and pescado veracruzana which I had. Honestly, I wish there were more vegetables in the dish. However, the flavor and the fish which was bassa was very good. Overall, a nice meal and quiet. read more

Not a great experience for our first time. The place was not crowded, sat down right away. There was a party of about 10 people that were already there. Other than that, there was maybe 1 other table occupied with a couple people. Took a while to order and get our drinks. Took another while to order our food. Then we waited almost an hour for our food. 3 orders of El Rey Ceviches. That's all we ordered and that's how long it took. Food was good, which is why they are getting 3 stars. Won't be back. Traditional food and friendly service without fuss. Came on a week night and lots of available tables. The server is friendly and is multi-tasking so be patient. The music was super loud and she immediately turned it down when we asked. Chips and house salsa are solid! I got the camerones ala diabla - great kick, shrimp was cooked perfectly, and came with choice of tortilla. Also got taco/enchilada combo and surf and turf burrito. Both got high marks. I have to give a 5 because this restaurant had the best PULPO preparation, a good 4 otherwise. The molcajete del mar is fantastic, opulent, well seasoned and nicely spicy. It is brought to you in a cauldron that seems to come from the inner depth of a volcano, literally, boiling hot and steaming. The pulpo tacos are amazing too... A gem!! Stopped in for lunch during my work day, hoping to be able to sit and eat while getting some work done. It was spacious, with plenty of tables open when I arrived just before noon. The server was very sweet, and instantly recommended the tostada de ceniza, which had pieces of shrimp cooked in lemon juice and octopus. That's always a good sign when there's no hesitation with the rec! I asked her if it was enough for lunch, and she vigorously nodded yes. When it came out, I saw why! It was chock full of seafood, and I was especially impressed by the big, fresh-tasting pieces of octopus. Reminded me of my trip to Ensenada and Valle de Guadalupe recently, and didn't even know how much I'd been craving mariscos!! It's their Campechana...not huge but for $23 it's portioned. Pulpo...all at the bottom. Shrimp...as you can barely see in the pic are small...oyster saved it...would have been nice to have dos...one on the half shell and one in the cup...scallops? This was the second time I have eaten from this restaurant and if it was closer I would have selected it more over the other nearby places for a quick Mexican food bite. Both times they were orders to go. There were several tables occupied at 8:00pm, which was a good sign of course. I ordered a carne asada burrito w/ cheese and rolled tacos. The employees at the counter were friendly, which is a plus. Upon returning home, about a 35 minute drive, the rolled tacos w/ guacamole held up well. I gave the burrito a short blast in the microwave to warm it up. I enjoyed the taste of both items, much more than from an Alberto's that for sure. Neither item was greasy and the beef in both was cooked perfectly (no gristle or fatty pieces). Although I enjoyed my selections I found the guacamole had a little more lime flavor than I personally care for, which I don't recall from my previous visit. However, that's just me and taste is subjective. Overall the food was good+ and I recommend the place if driving by or live in the neighborhood. BTW, if you use a credit or debit card they add a 3% surcharge. Not that it would have been a deal breaker for me, but they failed to inform you of this prior to ringing you up. read more

Just found this little gem and it was just up the street. It looks like a hole in the wall when you first drive by, but stop! Park your car! Enter! The service is friendly and welcoming. The ambiance is simple but there's plenty of seating and a few large tv's on with a variety of programming. Here's the deal: it's the food! Simply amazing. I had the grilled shrimp tacos and my husband had the Chicken Combo Plate. The portions are huge and the taste is absolutely perfect. We were visiting and craving Mexican. We wanted a more "restaurant" like vibe, however the reviews had us intrigued. The exterior and frankly, interior too are a bit misleading - the food was phenomenal and the price is insane! Not to mention the service. My brother and I celebrated our birthday here with the rest of our siblings. The restaurant was really nice other than the fact that it was a little hard to see the menus without enough lighting. We had made a reservation, we arrived on time. We were told that our table was being cleared. We were ok with waiting. It started raining and asked if we were able to come inside while we wait. We were told we had to wait. The manager came out. We asked them after waiting 20 mins after checking in, she said, "oh. I'll be back." I asked her, "did you give our table up to a different group?" She looked bad but didn't admit it verbally. They asked us if a couple's booth (only fits up to 3 people) will work for our group of 6. We told her no it didn't. A few minutes later, she told us to follow her, she seated us at the exact table that we told her that couldn't fit us. They grabbed two random chairs to seat my brother and brother in law which ended being in the line by the bathroom. The smell of the bathroom interfered with our comfort and couldn't really enjoy our food. Aside from all of this, the saving grace WAS the food. Delicious! The lady that gave our table up to a group that came after us was a manager. This happened around 7-7:30 pm on September 27, 2025. This whole experience overall was terrible. read more
