Made pretty fresh! Came by right before it closed at night I got the number seven. Tortillas might be homemade premium rice was good. Was not crazy about the beans. Burrito was a seven but for $13 it's a steal! You get two good sized burritos with meat and veggies. Rice and beans. So it is about 20 including a drink. I definitely have food for tomorrow. I should've gotten the Carne Asada burrito but I wanted to try the rice and beans. Pretty good. Nice staff and very helpful patrons. Probably a kind of sketchy location as people have said. But pretty good spot considering it's by the freeway and a gas station. So definitely worth the detour my favorite part was the rice. One thing to mention is that it's almost 11 o'clock, they're getting ready to close and they had at least six tables and some to go orders. They were very accommodating and very nice. Especially with me being there by myself as a white woman. Like it or not a lot of places are pretty rude to white women ordering at Mexican restaurants. I don't know why but even when I speak in Spanish a lot of times the treatment is not the best. So I really do appreciate how respectful everybody was at this location. I felt safe the entire time and I don't know if I would come back again but I would be open to trying it out! The fajitas and the Carne Asada a burrito were suggested. Another review said this place is "sketchy" looking... good. That's exactly what I was looking for. A local hole in the wall, with good tasting Mexican food. And bonus points for being inside of an old Taco Bell. I actually love that. It was a real experience with its dimly lit, sketchy parking lot, and a gang of bebe's kids running around the patio area being all loud. It didn't matter to me. It added to the ambiance of having legit taco shop food. The guy working at front ordering area was polite and friendly. He asked if I wanted "everything" in my burrito I said yes, but then I said wait "what's everything" and I thought I knew but he said Carne Asada, cheese, french fries, sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo. So I definitely said yes to all of that. Usually most taco shops won't put guacamole unless you pay extra . That said, this burrito was $13.99 and that's kinda high so I figure the guacamole is factored into that price, but the burrito was huge so it was worth it. It was jampacked with meat and the other items. I only ate half of it, and I'll finish the rest tomorrow. When I arrived, there was no one here. Parking lot was empty so it felt a little like "Oh no, should I eat here" and then the bebe's kids were running around but by the time I left the parking lot was full & restaurant ordering area also full. At least three customers came through to pick up food while I was in there eating half of my burrito-- so the place is solid. Very tasty and really fast. I didn't wait but a few minutes. And they asked how many salsas I wanted I said 5, red and green. The dude laughed but then put 5 of both in the bag. I laughed and gave him back half of them, telling him I meant 5 total, mix of green & red. He was about to give me 10 sauces. Some places are way stingy about that, he thought I was crazy but gave them to me anyway lol. It was humorous. Solid hole in the wall for Mexican food between Orange County and San Diego. To be honest the place feels kind of sketch due to the surrounding areas but it's not too bad. Decent amount of parking. I'm extremely picky with my Mexican food so I called the restaurant prior to placing my DoorDash order. I specifically asked if they had onions and tomatoes in their guacamole. The guy that answered the phone said no. Then I asked if they had any vegetables (bell peppers, onion, etc.) sautéed, and any of their meats The guy also assured me that there were not any vegetables in the meat. I ordered a flying saucer. The meat was completely dry and I spent more time, dissecting the meat to get all of the vegetables out of it than I did actually enjoying my meal. In fact I didn't enjoy any of it. I took a few bites and threw it out. Also, the description of the plate says "cheese, guacamole and sour cream". There was barely any cheese and absolutely no sour cream or guacamole. It arrived with no utensils, which I understand, some people probably eat that with their hands. However, I only got two napkins, so if I'm supposed to eat it with my hands that wasn't sufficient amount of napkins OR they could've just provide the utensils. Bottom line, I called prior to ensure satisfaction since I've never been to this restaurant before but I was lied to. The food was dry and I wasn't provided proper utensils. DoorDash driver was great. He arrived on time, but I will definitely not be going back to this restaurant or ordering from this restaurant again. This review was from 6/19/24 We are not from the area and went to San Diego on the way back we stopped at Armando's. It was off the freeway. I looked on Yelp and I saw there was good reviews. So we thought it was going to be a great place to stop and eat. The menu looked great and we were hungry and ordered 6 meals and 6 drinks. So we did spend a good amount. I don't know if the cook was off or the food just wasn't as good. We took a few bites and it was horrible. The bean and cheese burrito and cheese quesadilla the cheese wasn't even melted. 2 of us got the Fish Taco plate, the fish was over cooked in oil that seemed to be there all day and it was so dry. The tortillas were dry and hard as well. To where we didn't even want to take another bite. The Cheese enchiladas plates were better but the cheese was not melted inside like it should be just the outside. The horchata was good, it was sweet. The rice that came with some meals was dry. I went to the counter with the food and asked for our money back. I felt bad returning all our food but it was that bad. The guy was sorry and offered to have them remake it. No drink or anything. I gave her $100 and got back $71. So that's about $13 each. The fries were worth it, 3.5/5. The burrito is ok but on the small side. About a 3/5 for the burrito. Everything about this place is as such. Middle of the road. In the land of mexicali, San Diego, this place is an overall "meh." You won't be disappointed but won't be stoked either. The server spoke to me in Spanish despite me being a gringo, so I'd say service was a 4/5. She wasn't particularly friendly nor did she smile but she was prompt, accurate, and effective. One of our first accidentally late night discoveries when we moved here to Oceanside. And what a great accident! Tostada de Ceviche was super filling and yummy, their frijoles y tortilla de harina... yes! Get it. Like go there now and get it even if you aren't hungry lol. I've stopped by and gotten that just as a snack while watching the sun set. So warm and comforting on the cold coast. Tried their fish tacos as well, asked for it on harina and they accommodated, so nice, thank you. They were yummy as well. Lots of actual fish in that taco, not a lot of breading like some places, this place had the crisp on outside and loaded with fish on inside. Guys there are friendly and load you up with food. The tacos are so well stuffed that you need to get an extra tortilla to catch all that falls out and boom! You have an extra taco! Hard to pass by this little restaurant and not stop, once you try it you too won't wanna ever pass it up. They have areas inside to eat, gets a little cold but they have a heater I think, seems I remember one last winter.
