The Taj is the probably the best Indian Restaurant in Yuba City! Our server was so nice, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was so welcoming and upbeat. My boyfriend and I visited The Taj on a night where most of the restaurant was reserved for a big party, so we sat right in the front near the door, but it was perfect! There was music playing from the party so the vibes were great! Every single thing we ordered was also incredible, there was not a single thing that was lacking for us! The samosa chaat is not only delicious, but so colorful and full of flavor. The saag paneer was so creamy and fresh and the lamb biryani was an explosion of flavors perfectly spiced and I loved the pops of color as well. The lamb was so tender and you can tell they really care about cooking the food to perfection here. This restaurant doesn't play around when it comes to flavor and presentation. The food tasted as good as it looked which I really appreciated! The naan was cooked perfectly and the chicken tikka masala (it may have been butter chicken, I don't remember, sorry!) was so flavorful as well. The basmati rice that came on the side was so fluffy and warm! And of course I can never end a meal at an Indian restaurant without an order of gulab jamun. So sweet, soft, and the perfect ending to this incredible meal. And to top it all off, they gave us a box of Indian treats free of charge at the end of the meal! I don't know if they do this every time, but it was such a sweet gesture as I've never tried Indian sweets before. Personally, I didn't enjoy the sweets as much as I hoped I would, but it was so nice of them to give us a box to try. Been meaning to try here. What a wonderful place. The interior is nice and we were greeted by a wonderful gentleman and seated immediately. We selected the lunch buffet. They are one of the few places still serving a buffet. There is a wonderful variety of fish, goat, chicken and vegetable dishes. There was rice chicken and a rice veggie dish as well as fresh tomatoes and cucumbers and of course the wonderful white sauce. Then at the very end were two sweets that were fabulous. Be sure to save The atmosphere was calm and quiet and all the dishes were wonderful. The buffet is only served until 3:00, so don't be late. Best Indian food! Everything I have tried has always been amazing. Love their butter chicken and naan. I would highly recommend this place.

Menu, prices and quality of the food is good, they mix up orders sometimes but their fish pakora is best in town so I still go back just check the order before you leave lol I think it's because they don't ask your name when you call in an order. At least they didn't raise prices too high like other restaurants here. Also I like their chutneys and tandoori chicken. read more

I'm always trying to find that one go to restaurant for a quick stop and go for samosas. I know it just an appetizer, but the spices and dipping sauces are what makes them so delicious. Last summer I learned about their ice cream pops they offer. Omg delicious pistachio flavor and the chocolate taste like the fudge bars from anyone's childhood. When I received my food from the dasher, I was surprised by the small container of rice for all three entrees. I'm so disappointed! I've had their food numerous times at catered events and it's always been so good. Myself and a small group of friends came here last night and it was awful. The restaurant was cold and dirty. The waitress told us to seat ourselves then completely ignored us. It took over 30 minutes to get our food and it was missing components. The taste was pretty good but as we were eating there were flies everywhere which really grossed us out. To make matters worse there was an obvious difference between the service we got versus the services East Indian patrons got. Which sucks. We went to the Taj this past Saturday and were excited to go to a buffet again. Right when we got there we were not greeted, so we started getting plates and went to help ourself to the buffet. It took a long time to get us water and also bread. Some of our food choices were not available and we had to wait a while for them to cook more. The food wasn't as good as I remember to be since 2 years ago. The last disapointment was the rice pudding as it was gross due to the milk going sour. They said they would make more, but I just didn't want to taste it again. After spending $50 for our family I expected better and not sure we will return. Food was fine BUT it is family style. This would be fine except we expressly asked if it was and they said no, so we ordered way too much food. The menu says "alcoholics drinks : ask server to see menu." When we did he said there was no menu. It looks like they have a full bar, but when my brother in law ordered patron on the rocks (we could see they had patron) they said no. My mother in law was able to get a beer. Also they bring the plates before you eat and the silverware on a platter and you just grab what you need. Not bad but that was a surprise that now you can avoid being surprised about. I will try a different place if we go to Indian in the area again. It wasn't bad food but I was unimpressed with the service. There were two other small tables there when we got there. No one new came in while we were there and it took them forever to get to the actually coming back to take our orders. I also think you have to pay at the front. Be careful when you do a large order for catering. I ordered for my nephew's birthday over the phone and owner apparently wrote down the order. Next day, it was an hour late than the time we gave. Also, so many things were missing from the order as well and we had to go back to the restaurant to pick up some of the stuff while the guests were eating. Unfortunately, we were fully charged for the bad customer service and owner denied that we didn't order the things the restaurant missed. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE in addition to SPOILED FOOD! My family and I have been coming to this place from Sacramento since it was called jimmy's (15 plus years) We usually do large orders of samosas and sweets to go and have never had a problem. This time round (9/15/18) we order 3 dozen samosas and 20+ pounds of sweets. We get home and as our guests start to eat the samosas, you can smell a disgusting odor coming from the potato stuffing. I call the store up and notify them and the first lady tries to sell me on the fact that these are "fresh and prepared the same morning" then the owner gets on the phone and says we just made them last night, they can't be spoiled......... so which is it? They ask for me to bring them back and I comply, because they SHOULD see the quality of food they are selling. I spent 45 minutes on the drive there and another on the way back the first time I went to get them and then once again when I went to return them. 3 hours of driving for some bullshit and they proceeded to take my complaints as a joke and tried to laugh at the whole matter, as its not such a big deal. I came into the shop the next day with the samosas and the lady who co-owns the joint, says I can't give you a refund in cash, because my business partner will question where the money has gone and the waiters may get into trouble...... what?! Proceeds to tell me "you need to write me a new check or pay on your card, as I haven't cashed your previous check and this will throw off the counts for my sales" HOW IS THAT MY PROBLEM? I paid for my full order in a payment method of which you accept, how you run your books, keep track of inventory, or deal with YOUR relationship with your business partner is YOUR PROBLEM, NOT MINE.
