Food is good, but we were asked to leave 5 mintues after they closed. We hadn't finished our food yet, they brought us boxes, said they are closed, and motioned to the door. Really good food. Reminds me of when I lived back home--SF bay area, lol--I love either the paneer or the chicken dishes. Masala, saag, or buttered are all great. The mango lassi is awesome. The naan is good, but it doesn't last long even in the fridge--it goes dry in some spots. The samosas are really good too, but it doesn't taste like chicken, even if that's what you ordered... tastes like beef. Those are really good though. Everything is a little pricey and I'm not sure if it HAS to be. I understand the world we're living in right now is like that in all departments and areas, though. Maybe it's just that. One last thing, if you get any dish that you'd usually eat with rice, it's going to come with rice. Would be nice to have that specified! 7-8/10. 4 stars. read more

First time at this location but it's the same great food. I went in at about 11:30 for lunch and there was only one table occupied. Hope that's not an indication on how they are doing. May I make a request? Can you please switch from using styrofoam containers? We really enjoy your food and would eat it a lot more by ordering take out if you didn't use styrofoam. I know for a fact I'm not the only one who doesn't order there on Door Dash because of this issue. Would it be that much more expensive or difficult would it be to just use aluminum or cardboard containers of some sort? I have been coming here for years and thought I had already reviewed it! This is an amazing gem to have in grass valley! The food is always delicious, I especially like the lamb tiki Marsala, you can cut it with a plastic spoon.. enough said. Chole that is out of this world. If you order anything get the chole. I live near some pretty great Indian places and I'm up here in grass valley for work today. Saw this place and gave it a shot. Came here very tired and hungry after a long day of travel. We were standing on the sidewalk and looking at the window menu of a place across the parking lot, but the incredible aroma wafting from India Oven lured us to a dash through the rain. We made the right call! We got pretty standard stuff, some lamb, aloo gobi, saag paneer, an eggplant thing, rice and naan Every single thing we had was special. This place is using their own recipes and spice blends. Their food doesn't taste generic, it's full of aroma and nuanced spices and just frigging delicious. We were seated at a large table with comfy upholstered bench seats. The interior has a warm, cosy, vibe. The service was also very warm. I'd give 3.5. Food is decent, not too many Indian restaurants in the area from what I could find? I'm here visiting for work and was craving Indian flavors. I ordered the saag paneer and lamb curry, both decently flavorful and spice level medium was quite good. The downside is that the lamb in the curry was just cubes of hard pieces, almost difficult to chew. I wouldn't order it again unfortunately since the protein was not good. Saag paneer was filled with paneer and my favorite of the two. Rice is standard. Service was good, nice people taking my order. Food took only 10 minutes after I ordered.. read more

This restaurant is very inconsistent. Sometimes it is amazing and then I pick up food tonight and they forget the Naan and they kick the spice so high I cannot eat it. When you drop a Benjamin for dinner you should get an eatable meal. I called and asked for help with the missing bread and was blown off. Kind of a bummer. So if use their Toast App to order your food make sure to do a full inventory and a quick taste test before you get home because you are at the mercy of the restaurant. They used to use DoorDash and you could give a rating or ask for a refund of missing items but not with Toast. Hence the review here. I haven't been to this Restaurant in a couple of years due to life issues beyond most of the nation's control. So, I had arranged for a quiet dinner at home with a new neighbor, and when I suggested Indian they were quite pleased with the choice. I went in at 11:10 am yesterday morning and order lamb curry, chicken curry with spinach, naan, basmati rice (which come with the meal) and a side of Raita , a side dish from Indian Cuisine, made with yogurt, spices, herbs, vegetables and sometimes even with fruits. It is an integral part of Indian meal menus. Call it what you like - raita, pachadi, curd dip, or the Indian cousin of Greek tzatziki, this yogurt condiment is healthy and adaptable. I took my 1.5 mile walk and the take out was ready at 11:45. That evening before my guest arrived, I warmed up each of the dishes. What a delightful meal- great food, great company. The lamb and chicken curries were mild as ordered, and exceptionally tender. The Garlic Naan was a nice addition, and the Raita was delicious. The business is really easy to find. It is located on the top floor two door left of the indoor fitness gym called the Training Zone, and you can park on the lot where Macys is located. Prices are perfect for the meal that was made, and I had a second go around with left overs tonight. Now that the life issues have passed, I will be a more consistent customer. I WANT to give 5 stars because the flavor is great. The food tastes amazing but they simply CANNOT cook meat. Any time I have ordered something with chicken, the chicken in the dish comes in 2 inch by 2 inch blocks that are as tender as boot leather. Seriously - it's almost impossible to chew through these massive chunks of meat. WORD OF ADVICE TO THE OWNERS: buy a freaking pressure cooker. If I can cook tender chicken at home - you can cook tender chicken at your restaurant. Also, cut your chicken a little smaller - no one wants to saw through giant chunks of tough meat. If you do decide to go here stick with saag paneer or something that they can't screw up. When I get food here that's all I get, but when I have guests and they order chicken and it's always so tough you almost can't eat it. Could be an amazing restaurant - would love to change my review if they ever figure out the basic task of cooking chicken you can actually bite through. Until then - steer clear. read more

2nd review, had to take away a star. Well I thought I would give the Oven another try, I just loved the lamb samosas that were ordered as veggie, but wait, that gamey flavor was actually chicken (had to check the menu as it was hard to tell what the gray filling was) - well when you fry a samosa three times it can be hard to tell I guess. The little leather nuggets of "lack of veggie" pakoras were good with lots of cold beer as they were like a dessicant in my mouth. Also, try the super duper glowing red Butter Chicken, nice watery sauce and more leather. Saag Paneer, well, frozen spinach whipped in a blender with no spices, yummmm ! The rice had a nice random bay leaf which was nice, and the naan was not bad. Well, that might be the last time- with so many good reviews it makes me wonder? read more

!!!!! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE ALERT !!!!!!! We walked in the restaurant, nobody was serving us for first 10 min even though we were the only people in the restaurant. Upon walking to the kitchen and knocking the door, they heard the knock and still ignored us, until we walked inside and grabbed their attention. The staff was the coldest and not accommodating people I have come across. Upon letting them know our order - they said that - a dish which takes 5 min preparations would take them 30 min and staff would justify this by saying oh! we have online orders coming across as we don't want to serve you. Upon letting him know about his behavior, he said we are the only indian restaurant in the area if you wanna wait you can wait else we cant do anything for you. As an Indian food lover I recommend no one to spoil the experience for yourself. There are ample number of nicer indian restaurants with great staffs here in the area. Good luck read more

Ordered shrimp vindaloo through Door Dash. Turns out they had run out of shrimp, and instead of calling to inform us, they decided to send chicken instead. I called to let them know that the order was wrong, but it was not a mistake. They knowingly made the decision to serve chicken instead. I am a pescatarian and do not eat chicken. They could have called, and I would have ordered something else instead.. Now they are 10 minutes from closing, and I am without dinner. I've been eating here for 10 years, and this is one of many instances of bad service I have received in only a matter of months. They've just lost a loyal customer. read more

We had an excellent meal at Indian Oven Sunday night (5/29/2022). I had mild lamb curry and my partner had chicken/spinach curry. Both were delicious.
