Sat in open view at table for 15-20 minutes and was completely ignored by several servers except the nice ID checker at door, HE brought us beer menus and was friendly, only reason gave 2 stars instead of 1. The Tap is located right on the square and features a large main room as well as a smaller backroom. I tend to go during happy hour or Sundays because it is a complete zoo in the evenings and the layout of the place accentuates the loudness. They have an unnecessary amount of music there often times at the same time as IU games. They definitely cater to the ADD crowd. They have a pretty good rotating selection of 50 beers which usually contain a good mix of styles and draft only selections. They also have two big coolers of beer I'd avoid like the plague unless it is a style that ages well. Last time I was there, there were still bottles of Broo Doo nearly 6 months after it's been released. I wish they would have some sours outside of the sugar sweet Lindeman's style crap. A few taps also seem to be wasted on non-local crap too. I'd rather see a focus on Indiana brews or stuff that you can't just to to Big Red to buy a 6 pack of. I know some of the servers there are knowledgeable, but it seems many I've had have not known much about the beer or been very attentive unless sitting at the bar. Once my girlfriend ordered a New Day mead and received approximately 7 oz in their 11.5 oz glass. When the bill came, the bartender had charged us for a lesser beer. In the end, we go the proper $/oz ratio, but it was weird that he didn't say anything at all about it since I suspect the keg kicked negating a full pour. No kitchen on premises, but they do have a partnership with 4 local restaurants to order in which I have never done. They've recently added bloomington bakehouse pretzels to their menu which are delicious and come with a wonderful spicy mustard. The final point and probably the biggest thing I dislike, is the prices are just outright ridiculous. Most pours of standard stuff are $6-7 a pint and anything imperial will run you that much or more in an 11.5 oz glass. It's not worth ordering anything you can get elsewhere at these prices. I was really excited about The Tap and hoping it would be somewhat like a 20 Tap for Bloomington. While I'm disappointed overall, there are some redeeming qualities and I hope they build on these in the future. I've had several beers here recently I've never had the opporitunity to try outside of the brewery or a beer fest. I'll continue going on Sundays and random off hours for this, but with the atmosphere and prices, it's not something I frequently visit. read more

I would go more often, but it's too loud. As in, my voice is hoarse from yelling over the music, live or otherwise. I'm also not super into singer-songwriters on acoustic guitars--but their stage(above the bar) is pretty cool. I never go on weekends because it's packed, and there's no real drink specials for such a pricey bar. I've tried their food menu, and it's pretty decent! Tap: please turn your music down. Great staff! I'm not a huge fan of craft beer but the bartender (Jacob) was absolutely amazing and helpful. He found a couple beers that I really ended up enjoying! Wide selection of beers, but only a handful of really special brews. The Tap seems to be focused on quantity rather than quality, but it has gradually gotten better since they first opened. Ambience on the other hand is pretty poor. They couldn't decide whether to make it a beer bar, a sports bar, or a music venue, and the result is that they missed all three. Wait staff are very nice but a little slow and not very knowledgeable. Bottom line - It's an alright place to hang out with some good beers. But if you want to enjoy conversation with your quality beer, or if you want good food, you should look elsewhere. The food is wonderful - burgers, tuna tacos, fried pickles, it's all good! And the beer is pretty tasty too. A variety of beer types too, from mild to super dark to super hoppy. I love that it isn't overwhelmed with college students either, a nice mix of students and locals. It can get a little loud though, when the band is playing. This is a really nice bar with an amazing beer selection and great food. Came here with my fiancé during some down time between a wedding ceremony and reception and I am so glad we did. The beer selection is amazing but slightly overwhelming, as they serve beer brewed by themselves along with other local breweries such as Upland, Sun King, and Three Floyd's among others. It's definitely a good overwhelming because no matter what kind of beer you're partial to the Tap will have plenty of options for you. The food was certainly not your average brewhouse food. I split their signature Tap fries with two other people and while I was initially skeptical that it wouldn't be enough for the three of us we actually had a hard time finishing the whole appetizer. The fries also came with 4 different sauces that were really really good which was a nice departure from your every day ketchup and mustard pairings. All in all I have nothing but good things to say about the Tap, and I will recommend this spot to anyone who enjoys good beer, good food, and a fun atmosphere! read more

Expensive and loud often with pretty mediocre live music. But so popular that the huge space often has limited seating. Beer connoisseurs love it and rightly so with their huge beer selection. The Tap is an amazing place for beer, seasoned fries (served with awesome dipping sauces!), and burgers. (I hear their pizza is very good as well.) But stick to those; outside of those categories the non-burger sandwiches I and my husband have had were mediocre at best. My husband got the California Chicken which had two thin slices of flavorless lunchmeat type chicken and was $11.50! We never complain but we actually complained that time. The manager was very nice about it and gave us a percentage off our bill, I was impressed by the customer service! The Tap can get way too loud and crowded, and has many, many TVs as well as music playing, so if you are looking for relaxing you may or may not find it depending on the day. On a calm day in the back room with a Haystack Burger and fries, sampling the amazing variety of beers, you really couldn't ask for a better atmosphere. read more

The Tap in the heart of vibrant Bloomington, has great atmosphere, delivered excellent service and has a great selection of beer. The burger and fries we ordered were superb, while the tacos were ok. Also, live music after 9:00. I would definitely consider going back when visiting close by Indiana University. read more

This place started forcing people out by 12:30am on a Saturday even though they are a bar supposed to be open until 2am. They turned the TVs off and stop serving beer which made customers upset who wanted more to drink. Better off going somewhere else for better service. I asked them at 12:35am what time they closed and they said "Now", when we asked that the website stated they were open until 2am and they said "well we are closing now". Best beer selection I town, obviously. Friendly service. Can get pretty crowded, despite being a fairly large space. It's also really loud, which doesn't seem to fit the atmosphere of the place. Couldn't really hear the person sitting directly next to me, which defeats the purpose of going to a place like the Tap. If I want deafening music, there are plenty of other places in Bloomington.
