Amazing pizza and drinks! The establishment is beautiful! A limited menu but everything I have tried is excellent! Pizza is my favorite!

It's sort of hit or miss here. Been there maybe 10 times over five years. The service is unpredictable. The food is equally hard to predict. Might be terrific on one visit, then not so much the next. The one thing for sure is that it's fairly expensive. I once had dinner there solo consisting of 6 wings, the meatball sub special and two draft beers ... $54 before gratuity. Seemed a bit much. We had the rib-eye and filet special for two last year around Christmas, for $100. Was nice and worth the o price on that trip. Next trip, the pizza was no better than a frozen pie from Food Lion and the bartender seemed like she was bothered to serve us. So... I don't know. Give it a try and maybe you'll get lucky. read more

I order a 12 ounce Ribeye medium rare and a baked potato. The steak was burnt on the outside and extremely rare inside with very little flavor (grease mostly). Baked potato must have been from the day before, hard as a rock a few shreds of cheese and one bacon bit. The steak was $62 and the potato $7. Water was unfiltered smelled like Sulfur. I would have expected a lot more from a business that claims to be high end by their pricing. I would never recommend this place unless you really want a bad meal. read more

So I rate all restaurants on a common scale (5 being white glove in an amazing place). This place is definitely above average but not the 5-star category. I'm updating my review from way back in 2016, to denote its still just as good and to give a shout-out to our fantastic waitress. This was actually the only place open the Sunday before July 4th, but we had been here years ago and decided to give it a go. It has a nicely done interior, a little dark-ish, with sort of old world tavern feel. Dinner was good (fish for me, pizza for my wife), and the dessert also. What made this a 4-star though was our waitress, Ashley I believe it was. She was attentive, interactive, acted like she liked being there. Plus she was fun, chuckled at some lame (funny) comments... just made you feel like family (which doesn't happen a lot, I can tell ya). Up front - the only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is lack of staff like everywhere these days! My shrimp and grits was as good as if not better than Paula Deans at Mother and Sons. My husband's pulled pork was also delicious. The ambiance here is wonderful. read more

My wife has a speech impediment and was cut off after one drink. Even explaining to the bar tender and showing her the scar on her neck she still refused services. No excuses this place is not for anyone with handicaps.my wife is weeping and I'm pissed. read more

My family and I love to have dinner here when we are visiting Pamlico Beach. They take reservations, which we love because we usually have a large group. They also have a semi-private dining area in the back room which is perfect for groups. We love the crab dip as an appetizer. They bring out bread to the table and it's always perfectly cooked and warm. We usually order pizzas to share, and their crust and toppings are spot on. The Jack's tavern, BBQ chicken, and standard pepperoni pizzas are our go to choices. We always have plenty to take home for delicious leftovers as well. The service is great with friendly waiters and waitresses. We also enjoy their decor! We love this restaurant and really enjoy having dinner here each time we are visiting Pamlico Beach! read more

Met a friend here for dinner. Food was way over priced and mediocre. I had the fried blue crab and it was hard to swallow. So hard and ?? The shrimp and grits were Nothing to boast about and our bill was $78 for 3 people. I have never spent that much on what I thought was going to be no more than $40. I was so excited to see My friend that I didn't look at prices and took the waiter's recommendations. Never again. On a positive note, the atmosphere was nice. read more

I just wanted to start off by saying I would not recommend going to enjoy dinner here. The grits was hard and the sauce was so greasy. Our appetizer took 40 mins to arrive at our table and it was greasy. Even though the food was not worth what we paid our waitress was amazing. Visiting family from Virginia Beach this week. We decided to stop here for dinner. At 5pm, waited 20 minutes to order pizza, which is all they were serving at the time. After waiting a 1/2 hour, we asked the host how much longer the wait is, she said it should be right out. We watched several people come in, get seated & served. Long store short, at 7:25pm we were still not served. My brother in law asked for the check to pay for drinks & the bartender asked "Do you still want the pizza?" He replied "No, we e been here 2 1/2 hours & never got our food" As the place got packed with people, everyone else was eating & we decided to leave & go to the restaurant across the street, which was fabulous! How in the world did the little town of Belhaven manage to attract a first class restaurant like the Tavern? This place is an incredible find. They have an exhaustive menu featuring everything from homemade pizza to gourmet quality fresh seafood. Everyone at our table was blown away by the quality of the food and it's presentation. The staff was friendly, attentive and fun (thanks Ashley). The bar is well stocked with some hard to find labels. The decor is simply amazing. It features magnificent hand crafted woodwork hewn from Cyprus, Teak and a variety of locally sourced materials. The woodwork, in combination with the exposed massive wooden ceiling supports and other architectual features, creates an elegant environment. There is nothing plastic about this place. Its five hours from my house to Belhaven and i may never make it back. But a restaurant like the Tavern makes Belhaven worth remembering. read more

If I could give a negative review, I would. For somewhere that's open for ONLY three hours, you would think the staff would be nicer. Waitress had the worst attitude. The food is overpriced garbage. Seriously disgusting food. Had the shrimp and grits. No grits to be seen, tasted like shrimp with Kraft cheese sauce. Manager looked like a 12 year old girl who had a awful attitude as well. Medium rare steak was raw at first and then when sent back, they burned the outside like they went it to hell and back. Do not recommend at all. read more

So much for saying steakhouse outside. It was the worst steak I have ever had. My filet was under cooked then burned and served with cold mashed potatoes. It was inedible. The staff was careless and gave an attitude when we asked where the sour cream, guacamole, and jalapeños where for our nachos when it clearly states it comes on the pulled pork nachos on the menu. The menu is lacking options that are desirable. The shrimp and grits were terrible, no grits all cheese and not good cheese. The best thing I had here was the beer that came in a can!!! The manager was made aware of the situation and only said ok and said nothing but did take the burnt steak off the check. The waitress came back and put the check on the table with no apologies. We were passing through Belhaven for one night and decided to try this tavern. The owners have put a lot of talented energy into the building and decor. Jimmie gave us a tour of the new space they will be opening soon- a bourbon and scotch bar serving oysters and next door a steak house. The food was good- mussels in wine and garlic sauce, tavern burger and a Greek pizza.The pizza crust was particularly crisp and they tossed it on the thin side as I like it. Sorely disappointing... Overpriced for mediocre to average food....around $14 for fish and chips which was ONE smallish to medium piece of pollock and seasoned bag fries, a not big portion. Around $14 for the Tavern burger which was good but again same fries. Two beers... for around $50!!! Our server was fine but brought our electronic check to us and waited at our table as we signed it, including her standing there while we put our tip on, instead of leaving it with us to sign and coming back to get it when we finished it, never had this happen before... not worth going back for us. Sitting at the tavern because it is the only open restaurant in Belhaven. Ordered pizza well over an hour ago. Restaurant is not busy. Everyone who came in after us has eaten their food, paid and left. Still waiting. Bartender asked us a little while ago what we ordered because I guess he forgot to send the order to the kitchen. Do not recommend this restaurant at all. Recommend going to Washington or even Nags Head where you can eat in a restaurant that is well-managed. In our case it would have been faster. Update: finally received pizzas almost two hours after ordering. Manager was nice enough to give us $2 off our total. I stand beside my original statement. Go somewhere else. read more

There are not many selections for eating out when entering Belhaven, but after my first full week as a Belhaven resident, I can safely state that I have found my official hangout. I love this place. TT@JN has created an atmosphere that would be 2nd to none in most cities in the Carolinas. The ornate interior and style shows that the owners made the effort to ensure that their patrons have a pleasant dining experience. Their menu states that they are all about pizza. They are right. Their flavors are wonderful, from their plentiful toppings, the spices in their sauce, and the crust is very tasty. Do not stop at their pizza. If you do you will be disappointed that you missed the rest of their menu. As an appetizer, you have to try their crab and sausage dip. You may want to lick the bowl after the pita wedges are gone..... (Stop that. You're in public!) Be sure to try out their shrimp and grits, also. Big ole 12 count shrimp, wonderful flavor. Trust me, after only two visits in my new hometown I am hooked to the Tavern at Jack's Neck. read more

How should I begin...the interior and exterior is quite attractive. I had the catch of the day with grits (Mahi) and it was pretty good. My husband had the fried shrimp which was pretty good as well. While we were here I observed numerous servers in and out of the dining room (mostly out/MIA). Despite the communication devices they wore, communication appeared spotty. The service was not good...the server was almost non-existant...If this review was just about the food I would give it a 3.5 but considering the bad service and lack of solid management...2.5-3.0. Honestly, like the other reviewers, I kind of forgot I was in Belhaven. This place is a very welcome addition to the area! It's in the old Helmsman restaurant, but you would not believe how beautiful the interior is now. The woodworking on the bar is impeccable (and I heard it was wood from somewhere near Lake Phelps, so that's cool too). The tavern was very busy on a Friday night, and we had to wait a bit for a table. This gave me an opportunity to check out what was on draft and the bottles of wine they offer. It's really a decent selection for Beaufort County. Once seated, we waited a bit for our server; however, once she arrived, she was full of personality and very friendly. We ordered the "nachos" (homemade chips topped with pimiento cheese and tomatoes) and a Greek pizza. Both were excellent! The pizza was delicious, and you can tell they are using only fresh ingredients, including the dough. For both food and beer, the price is right, too. Love when I can say that. For an up and coming restaurant, this place rocks. Bear in mind you may not be seated immediately and that service isn't super fast, but this place is just getting started. Have a beer to wait it out. With a little patience, you're in for an awesome meal! read more

We stopped in Belhaven while sailing the ICW south. We were fortunate to come across The Tavern walking distance from the marina in downtown Belhaven. They were in the 'soft opening' phase only serving pizza and salads. They have a full service bar which we enjoyed both nights in port. The staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The manager made a point to stop by and ask how we were doing and explained how the Tavern came to be in Belhaven. The interior is amazing. Warm finished wood throughout and nautical themes make it very inviting. The owner apparently is a retired architect and obsessed with detail. The interior shows it. We each had small pizzas. Fresh dough that was light and flaky, topped with quality ingredients. Good beer selection and more taps are coming. I stuck with the vanilla porter. read more

Have been there many times, but the food and service tonight is worth writing about. Both were beyond bad ! The chicken was not cooked... the other dish were not eatable and the service was even worse. We were told there was not a manager in the building or anyone in charge. When we showed them that the chicken was raw they offered us a take home box to cook it at home. Really BAD !! read more

We'd been to Jack's several times before the pandemic, with some positive experiences. Now open, the restaurant is a disappointment. Walking into the restaurant, we were puzzled by the lack of chairs in the main room, and the feeling that they weren't fully operational on a Saturday evening. The service was very slow, unprofessional, and odd, as we didn't get napkins, silverware, water refills, or a friendly greeting. The menu was quite limited, though pizza to go seemed to keep the place moving. Our friends ordered the shrimp and grits, which was a large amount and tasted delicious, though their orders came after a wait. Then we sat and watched them eat until our pork orders finally arrived ten minutes later. The pork dinner was just OK, but the pork sliders were overly seasoned and over cooked. Our impression was that the staff was poorly trained and uninterested in serving us. To add insult to injury, the server used her ipad for the bill, and the tip options started at 18%! 10% would have been more like it. We won't go back, even for the pizza. read more

During our 830 mile journey from NY to NC we stopped at the town of Belhaven after hearing about Jacks Neck Tavern. We were tipped off about Belhaven and CoinChock Marina by some fellow boaters while waiting on one of the locks to open during our journey south. If you go to Belhaven stay and Brenda and Les's Belhaven Marina which is about 1/4 inside the breakwater. Call ahead. One of the best little marinas I've ever stayed at. Upon our arrival Brenda told us that Jacks Neck was closed for the holiday but that she'd call Teresa and Mark at Spoon River to be sure they saved us a table. That was an amazing meal for sure and I'll write about it under a seperate review. Back to Jacks Neck...it was closed but after looking into the windows and checking out the menu I decided to return on my own two weeks later and spent and hour touring the restaurant with the owners (Jimmie and Doug) and had a meal that evening. I also had the opportunity to meet several other folks that lived in Belhaven that dined at Jacks Neck fairly frequently. All wonderful people. Menu is diverse...I ordered what was recommended...their Shrimp and Grits. Was as good as Crooks Corner restaurant in Chapel Hill where I have a home! Am going back this weekend to try some other menu items and introduce my wife to the restaurant and the town of Belhaven. The 2.5 hour journey was worth it last time...and I'm sure it will be this time. Oh, btw, book a room at Andy and Karen Fishers bed and breakfast...the Belhaven Water Street Bed and Breakfast...I'm sure the Bellport Inn around the corner is great too, but Water Street was the place I stayed at first. read more

It takes a bit of time for any new restaurant to get things down. My husband and I both had superb food. He had the sirloin with grilled onions and mushrooms and spinach to die for ( not the creamy, tasteless stuff). Cooked just right, tender and plenty of taste. I had the lasagna, which had a chunky, garlicky marinara sauce without the overwhelming cheese that sometimes comes with the dish. The sausage had just enough spice to make it interesting without covering all the other tastes with HOT. We both thought the balsamic vinaigrette on the salad and the garlic bread were delicious. We'll be back! The food is superb. The setting is warm and attractive in both the bar and restaurant. Everything is made fresh on the premises. That means your food will take a little time. Have something to drink and be patient. It will be worth it. Full bar, many beers and wine. read more

What a pleasant experience! We were traveling up the intracoastal and the marina recommended this tavern which happily was within walking distance. The decor is nautical without being kitschy. The architect owner did a beautiful job collecting unique pieces and designing the tasteful interiors. The food was very good and the price was reasonable. Bridget, the hostess, took good care of us and so did Caleb, our server. On the back of the menu is the history of the tavern and it makes for interesting reading. My grouper, the night's special, was delicious and the blue cheese dressing on the salad was one of the best I've had. read more
