The service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. My experience in fine dining is fairly limited, but I will absolutely dine here again. Overall very disappointing experience. The Tavern Trattoria presents itself as elevated dining, but unfortunately felt more like an overpriced Olive Garden. We were seated about 30 minutes after our reservation time and waited nearly another 1 1/2 hours for our dinner. The server was nice and genuinely apologetic about the delays, but the food arrived at different times, with one plate significantly delayed. The pasta also did not taste or seem particularly fresh. The chef had the server apologize because of all the delays and offer a free dessert. At that point we just wanted to be able to leave. Given the prices and the restaurant's positioning as "upscale Italian", we expected a much more polished experience and better execution. read more

I went outside my norm and tried the voodoo pasta, holy cow!!!! Amazing!!!!!! Packed full of seafood and the sauce was bold flavors. Add the homemade pasta and perfecto. The waitress had had was super friendly and knew a lot about the menu and restaurant for being new to the staff. The place is really nice and I knew it was a good sign when I pulled into a packed parking lot. I had to wait 20 min for a table, but wellll worth the wait. Brittany was an amazing waitress, our family had such a fun time! She had a great sense of humor. The chef/owner made personal stop at each table which doesn't happen much anymore. We stated with the fried green tomatoes and Brussels sprouts, had a couple of Caesar salads, then for dinner we had spaghetti & meatballs, a strip steak & shrimp special, prime rib lasagna & voodoo seafood pasta. Everyone enjoyed their meals!!! We ended with tiramisu and affogato. A perfect dinner, first time there and 10/10 will be back. Such a delightful experience for a first time guest at this restaurant. The minute you walk in, the ambiance takes over, especially to the right into the bar and bar seating area. The dining room to the left is fairly open and very comfortable. The night we visited was not busy but I noticed a lot of wall and ceiling decorations that would help mute a noisy room. That being said, we were greeted pleasantly immediately and brought to our table. This is were the decadence starts... a great Merlot house wine to start (they need to add an Italian beer like Peroni to their selection) and appetizers of Breaking Bread and Arancini were beyond tasty. The table bread was from another planet. Seriously. My Radiatore Alla Salsi ccia was spicyand flavorful. The sausage sliced thin the way I like it. All in all a '6' out of 5 stars. I've been going to the lake for many years and I can honestly say this is one of the best meals I've had there. I got the butternut squash ravioli and my boyfriend got the veal carbonara. We both rated the dishes 10/10, and an added plus was our super sweet server. Also, the owner and executive chef made a point to come up to every table, introduce himself and ask if we had any questions. The ambiance was great I didnt expect this when I walked in because this side of the lacks so much! We got there 5 minutes to close because we were trying to find a good place this side of the lake and most were already Closed on a Sunday. The whole staff we encountered welcomed us very warmly. Now for the food. WOW, top notch dishes. All of our food was fantastic. Wish we found Trattoria sooner in our stay. For cigar smokers they even have a nice dedicated separate space to enjoy a drink and cigar. read more

The Tavern Trattoria serves authentic Italian at the lake. It is located in Laurie and can be real easy to miss. The staff and owners are super friendly and have created a relaxed and homey vibe to the establishment. We were able to get a reservation but you could probably get away with no reservation. We went on a Saturday night and there were still tables available. The food was really delicious. We got their tagliatelle con fungi served with a white cream sauce, mushrooms, and spinach. Really delicious and all the ingredients worked well together. They also have specials and the night we went scallops were available on the menu. We got an order and even though there were three they were soft and delicious and melted right in your mouth. I could tell by the interactions with the staff and the owner they were really passionate about the restaurant and their work there. This is a local place to the lake and everybody should go and give them a visit when they are in town next time. read more

It was just ok. Disappointed since I expected the level of service and food that I receive from their other restaurants. Our server didn't put in our order correct and questioned me when I mentioned it. Our food was ok but it was obvious when it came out that it been sitting for a moment or was prepared ahead of time. Pasta isn't very forgiving. I had mentioned in our reservation that it was a birthday but it wasn't acknowledged. It was sad to see tape holding up the ceiling light shades and others that hadn't attempted to be repaired. In all our dinner for two only lasted 25 minutes which doesn't reflect what we paid. read more

Service: Good service, friendly and quick, and the chef comes out to ensure you enjoy your meal. Food: delicious. The pepper jack dish that I enjoyed wasn't traditional, but it was delicious. It had shrimp that was a little tough, chicken that was just right, and a touch of bacon. The hand made pasta was perfection. If you are looking for low calorie meals, go elsewhere. This place is excellent Italian style fare and light isn't what Italy and Sicily do well. Don't look for a basket of bread with dipping oil and vinegar or spices. The bread is homemade and one roll on each plate. It was good. There is a wine menu and specialty drink menu as well as the dinner and dessert menu. The dessert menu varies from single serving size to the three cannolis family size serving. I had the crème brûlée. It was over the top with just a touch of Gran Marnier. I could just barely taste it and kept eating trying to place the flavor. I highly recommend it. I will update this with more items next time I dine here. read more

I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant for both its food and service. From the moment we walked in, we were treated as welcomed guests. It has a nice atmosphere and great bar area. Jessica, our server, was attentive, informative and friendly. We were a party of 4 and 3 of us had the Tavern Old Fashioned which was perfectly balanced and smooth. You can get them smoked which is a nice touch. We ordered the Saganaki appetizer (flambéed cheese and crostinis). It was something we had never tried before and it was so delicious that I woke up thinking about it the next day. Our main dishes (Voodoo Pasta, Tuscan Salmon, Bistecca Tagliata, and Buccatini alla Vodka) were all very flavorful. Everyone LOVED their meal! We learned that almost everything is made in house (even the pasta) and you can taste the care that goes into each dish. I normally don't eat salad croutons but these were so yummy and worth eating every last one! The dressing on my Caesar salad was the best I've ever tasted. I wish we could have had dessert, but we were too full. We ate at JB Hooks the night before and it was terrible. Tavern Trattoria plwas a little farther from where we were staying yet SO worth the extra 15 minute drive. We are from St. Louis and wish the owners, John and Sherri, had a restaurant like this closer to us. We ate at The Tavern at Trails End the last time we were at the Lake and loved the food and ambiance there, also. read more

This place might work for some, but not for us. The menu was too eclectic and the service was substandard for any restaurant and certainly what one would expect from a restaurant holding itself out as a high-end restaurant and charging the prices of one. My pasta dish was good, but I literally paid more for it than what I recently paid for pasta in Little Italy in NYC. My wife's sandwich was not what she expected, but she tried to make the best of it. While we were pleased to see someone trying to bring a higher level of dining to the West side of the lake (and wish them the best), we won't be back. read more

Reservation at 6:30 and seated within 5 minutes. Disappointed the daily specials were sold out by that time. My entree was a simple pasta dish with olive oil and garlic. My plate was the last to arrive to the table and I was shocked at how small the serving was compared to my dinner companions dishes, but more importantly was the amount of grease the pasta was floating in. I would say there was about one cup of cooked pasta that seemed "dried out" but saturated in a butter/oil broth. I tasted the other dishes of my friends and they were definitely better, but at $38 for pasta I'd expect a dish with Italian sausage to have more than 4 very thinly sliced pieces of meat (maybe 1-2 ounces at best). The salad, an add on, was fresh and the dressing tasty as were the rolls. The service was complicated by multiple issues with other customers that slowed things down. It was a welcoming environment and having the chef stop at each table was a nice touch. There were available options for special dietary restrictions which was also nice. Overall I'd give the food a much lower rating than the average 4.7 that I've seen. read more

The Tavern at Trails End is our favorite restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks and we love how Chef John goes to his tables to meet his guests and make sure they had a wonderful meal...which we have every time. And because it's a little hidden on the west side of the lake, I'm not surprised so many people haven't been there yet. But that's why we also recommend it to everyone. And because of our love for The Tavern, we were very excited for our first visit to The Tavern Trattoria to celebrate our son's 30th. Our bill was right at $300 with tip and no alcohol...which is on the high end at the lake. But we are happy to pay that for great food, service, and memories. But with that price tag comes expectations, and for our group of six, it was just ok. And in the restaurant business, owners should never be happy with an "ok." It's one level below good and one level above bad. I'm not going to lay out the issues that left us disappointed in this post because we really want this restaurant to flourish and friends that have been, love it. This location has been many different restaurants in the past and us Westsiders love new restaurants and really want them to have success. Maybe it was just an off night. But most importantly, I did personally share the details of my disappointment with the owner doing table visits. I didn't ask for anything, she didn't offer anything, and we left. I have lived in the Ozarks for a year now and this restaurant has become one of my favorites and it has only been open about 6 months. the atmosphere is a cross between quirky and elegant. Music from the 40s-60s is played which I love! the service is always fantastic. Katie and Julia are two of the best. they r knowledgeable, down to earth, and just plain enjoyable. The food is always great! the menu is always evolving and I have tried many different and delicious things....stuffed squash blossoms were new recently and they were fabulous. i have never had anything here I didn't like. it's a little on the pricier side but I am happy to pay a little more for great food in a nice atmosphere.
