Went to dinner with another couple at HK restaurant. Started off with the oyster mushrooms and potsticker appetizers. The oyster mushrooms were fantastic. They were fried crispy. The sauce had lots of flavor very good. The potstickers also or very flavorful with a great soy sauce and sweet-and-sour glaze on top. I got the pork chop on a basil risotto as well as my buddy got the same. Our chops were great. The risotto was just kind of plane nothing to ride home about. My wife got the chicken marsala with mashed potatoes. She loved the chicken the same for the mashed potatoes just kind of plain. The final person at our table got the shrimp Cajun pasta and she loved it. The reason for four stars is because the sides were just kind of plane. Our waiter Ethan was fantastic. He was quite the talker, and the suggestion on appetizers were spot on. I was kind of disappointed there was no dark beer selections on the menu. The restaurant sits overlooking a Japanese garden and the lake of the Ozarks the view is stunning. All in all the restaurant was quite good. Service was prompt. Had a very satisfying meal. read more

We have visited HKs intermittently for years. Great experiences last Sunday then tonight. We have noticed a big improvement in the morale of the staff and the quality and presentation of the food and are happy to see this trend at the lodge. If you haven't been in a while, please head back and give it another try, you will not be disappointed. I had the pasta with steak last week, which was good but tonight a much better special - thick pork chop, smothered with mushrooms, onions, and peppers and a very nice sauce, very creative excellent meal. Unfortunately, our dining experience at HK's Steakhouse was disappointing. We had a 7:30 PM reservation to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday, and what should have been a special occasion turned into very frustrating experience. Our meals took an exceptionally long time to arrive. Throughout dinner, I was the only person at our table whose beverage was refilled not even water was refilled. Once our food was served, our server essentially disappeared. No one checked on our table, cleared empty plates, or removed used glasses or silverware. We remained seated with dirty dishes for the rest of the evening. When we finished eating, we waited approximately 40 minutes just to receive our check. During that time, the rest of my party eventually left while I stayed behind to settle the bill. After paying, I waited an additional 20 minutes for the complimentary birthday dessert that had been promised to my daughter. When the food runner walked out of the kitchen with the desert in a bag she was literally swinging it back and forth. In total, I spent nearly an hour sitting alone at a table covered with dirty dishes. Throughout that time, not a single plate, glass, or piece of silverware was removed, and no employee checked on me. Before leaving, I quietly attempted to speak with the employee at the hostess stand about our experience. She appeared unsure of how to respond and simply stood there without saying anything. I thanked her and walked away. Once again, no one apologized or even acknowledged how disappointing the evening had been. I spoke with the front desk at the resort as well as the Director of Rooms who assured me that the Director of Food and Beverage would be reaching out to me to discuss the issues my family and I encountered. The food was really good delivered in a reasonable time hot and fresh really good burger cooked to the right temperature and beef seasoned well. Toasted bun, with the works lettuce tomato pickles onions and fries crispy and delicious. My coworker had shrimp and grits she's a picky eater and thought it was delicious. My husband really liked his pizza and he knows his way around a good one. The waitress was very friendly and helpful good service fairly priced. We're currently spending a few days at the 4 Seasons Resort for a little golf and R&R on our way back to Minnesota following our winter in Orange Beach, Alabama. Our stay includes breakfast and at this time of year its in HK's Restaurant. Lee was our Hostess and server. She greeted us warmly and was very professional in her knowledge of our dietary concerns. We hadn't visited Lake of the Ozarks for quite some time and Lee was a Wealth of Information on Restaurants and Tourist attractions we may be interested in. She gave us reviews of local Hot Spots and made our breakfast dining experience an informative and pleasant experience. We were very excited to have a Valentine's reservation. We sat at the bar first since we were early. The bartenders were great and our drinks were fantastic. Unfortunately, that's where the "good" ended. (Oh - that's not true. The music was great tonight, and the cheesecake was yummy when it finally arrived.) Food wise though... I was excited for the steak. Even after the adjacent couple warned us to NOT get it, that they both did and were very disappointed.) The entire 4 course meal was very very slow. There was at least 20-30 minutes of sitting and waiting between each course. The shrimp was good, the goat cheese was basically a quarter size lump of cheese on the plate. The ranch on the salad was either a) not ranch (maybe it was blue cheese on accident?) or b) a really weird recipe for ranch dressing. When the steak finally arrived - it looked great at first glance. Cooked just right. However, the char on it combined with the chocolate glaze was a horrible combination. It was very strangely bitter and completely un-edible. As a steak lover, it killed me to eat 3 bites and give up on it. (The garlic mashed potatoes were pretty good and ended up as my main meal.) Then, the real test of our patience - waiting for dessert. It just didn't come for the longest time! The waitress promised she'd ordered it and said she'd check into it. After another 20 minutes we asked if she could just go get it instead of waiting on a food runner. I mean, it was cheesecake. Pre-made and probably pre-plated. There should not have been such a long wait. She did go get it and came right back with it. The cheesecake was a nice ending to a not great experience. We were there sitting at our table for just over 2-1/2 hours. Thank goodness there was good music to listen to. read more

We came in and were seated fast. But then the whole situation went out of control. I asked for a water and was brought straight vodka, it seemed to be spiked with some sort of amphetamine because I took one drink and didn't sleep for 2 days. Come to find out the girl who seated us and brought us the mystery drink, didn't even work at the restaurant!! She quickly traded the glass of vodka she gave me with a glass she had drank out of once she realized what had happened. I just wrote it off as a mistake and proceeded to order food. She took our order and went back to the kitchen only to disappear and never be seen again. About 15 minutes later a girl came and asked if we'd been helped. By this time the amphetamine spiked vodka started to kick in I had a 30 minute conversation with the girl about what just happened. She left and went to the kitchen, she came back 10 minutes later with 2 beers we didn't order. I asked her if she found out who the other girl was and she said it was one of the house keeping girls helping out because they were short staffed. She brought us more alcohol and offered to "take us back to the cooler and burn one", we don't drink and definitely don't do drugs but I guess the amphetamine spiked vodka peaked my curiosity and we followed her back to the cooler. She proceeded to pull out a glass bong from behind the food in the cooler and started smoking it. I asked if she would be able to bring us our food anytime soon and she said after she got done doing bong rips she would. So I went back to my table and waited 5 minutes. Then I started to leave and she brought me a bag of onion rings and said "on the house.". We went to our room, ate the onion rings and I didn't sleep for 2 days. They get 2 stars due to the onion rings being just right. read more

The food was horrible. The chicken literally had no flavor what-so-ever. The best part of my meal was the pink lemonade. That food had NO flavor... what-so-ever. The green beans could've been cooked longer as well, they weren't tender. It's kind of crazy because we arrived at 6 and didn't get food until around 7:30 after she came to our table and told us they had an event. She stated "we took your orders but I forgot to put them in because we have 24 heads at the event, so we just put yours in now" after already being there an hour. Such a disgrace. It's almost like they want people to not come. That's not even the worst part. The hostess was HORRIBLE. She looks at you like "ugh, more people to ruin my f'ing day". She has absolutely no care in the world to even fake being nice. The entire time her face was just flat with no emotion other than disgust and irritation. Take note, we went to their bar the night before and had a minute-and-a-half stare-off with her until one of us said hi to her and then she decided to tell us "go find table". To have her as the hostess is extremely irresponsible for the business but again, it seems like they want people to not want to come. The restaurant itself is outdated but it was still by far better than the food and the service. The views from the restaurant out into their beautiful landscape over the lake was gorgeous though. read more

Never had a bad meal here. Range of menu pricing can go from decent to upscale but it's been a tasty experience for me. Attentive bar and service staff couple with solidly laid back live music to create a nice experience for you if you're staging at the lodge or just coming in for a brew and the music. I ordered the potsticker appetizer and he had the philly style flatbread. All were okay tasting but just average. I was disappointed in our steak soups. It tasted like it had been sitting then warmed up. Service was slower but I understand, given the current market. Later, we ordered from the Lobby Bar, which had a scaled down menu of what they serve at HK's. I ordered the coconut shrimp (great sauce). Overall, it was just okay. I'm all fairness, we ordered a burger and pizza. The burger was ; the pizza was good. I'm addition, I asked if they had cake slices because it is my son's birthday. When I picked up the food, the amazing hostess, Sophia, had also found a candle, so we could celebrate the right way. Gorgeous hotel restaurant. Very elegant. Was in town for my wife's family reunion. Not a single person in her family drinks alcohol, at least in front of each other. I assume they all sneak off like we did. After a long day of visiting people we snuck down to the lobby and came here for some BOOZE. We sat in the bar area and the bartender was super friendly. To start I had a Bombay sapphire gin martini. Came out ice cold and delicious. My wife had some foo foo drink I can't recall. We shared their pot stickers and margherita flat bread which were both tasty. For dessert we stuck with booze and had their "Lady Godiva Martini" which was full of chocolate flavored alcohol. While getting our buzz on my wife saw her sister walk past and she ducked down in the seat reverting back to the teenage years afraid of getting caught. Since I'm just an in-law I proudly sipped my martini but we weren't seen. My guess is they too were sneaking down for a drink, saw us, and pretended to keep walking. Then when our meals came, my salmon was not cold. Not hot. I didn't eat it. It was taken off the bill. My SO's meal was so-so. Pasta. I would really consider going somewhere else for a relaxing meal. You're taking your chances here. Walked in at 6:15 p.m. on a Wednesday. Place was maybe 15-20% full. Seated quickly. Placed our drink orders. Drinks delivered about 15 minutes later and we ordered dinner. Placed a second drink order that never came. At just before 8 p.m. we gave up. I approached our server at the server station and told her that an hour and half was way to long to wait after ordering food. She was clearly flustered and very apologetic. I settled our drink tab and still tipped her well. Clearly a staffing issue. Tried again two nights later but placed a to go order at the front desk. Asked the manager to call my cell when the food was ready. He said it would be about 45 minutes. Less than 30 minutes later I was called that the food was ready. Picked up the burger, fries, and onion rings and went back to the rooftop bar. The food was very good and the service was as well. I know staffing is an issue these days but the truth is, we should never have been seated the first night. These days, if I walked in somewhere and was told they were short staffed and wouldn't be able to provide good, timely service, I'd completely understand. Being honest up front would have been a hell of a lot better than leaving us hungry and hanging. read more

The cocktail program is great. The Apparently Martini was outstanding. Unfortunately the restaurant has changed Chefs and changes have been made to house favorites. The crab cakes are no longer gluten-free and according to my husband the profile is not the same. Additional breading and less crab have left a diminished taste. We have been at the lake for 45 years and ate at HKs when it was across the road many years ago. My wife and I went for the first time in the new restaurant at the lodge this last September. Not a fan. There are far better places in the area - go to them instead. BTW, this picture is a visualization of the terrible service. I 'm not one to complain about service issues but WOW when I say the service was BAD - not just the waiter, I am putting it kindly. All around terrible, borderline shocking. They were clearly short staffed (tried to run dinner service with four employees, each of whom didn't seem very good). We ended up eating our onion soup with a fork (seriously) and a steak with a butter knife. The waiter, always indifferent in his attitude, just never did anything he told us he'd do. Other employees were equally indifferent. The manager walked around occasionally to say hello to some of the elderly guests - it was very strange, especially because he didn't help his staff with anything and he didn't visit many tables. We also ordered a drink that never arrived. The waiter apparently forgot to tell us that they ran out of the liquor. I went to the bar after 20 minutes and the bartender told me she told our waiter. She seemed like the only person in the restaurant trying to do her job well and I felt sorry for her. They had soft lighting, laid back atmosphere with a man playing a guitar. It was perfect to be able to unwind and eat an amazing dessert. Shockingly good for a restaurant in a resort/hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. The menu didn't have quite as many options as the restaurants in town did but my wife and I both loved our dinner. Salmon add-on for the salad came out on a separate dish and was a full size fillet portion for maybe $8 in addition to the salad. Super crisp on the bottom and perfectly cooked inside. I was really blown away. There weren't many other customers since we ate at 5pm for our toddlers timetable and we had 1 on 1 very attentive and pleasant service. Very good value. If you're looking for something really high end I would go to JB Hooks but expect to pay for that, otherwise it's better than any other place we tried in town. Highly recommend. read more

Given all the reviews about HK's on Yelp, we didn't have very high expectations going there for dinner. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly and quick. While a bit on the pricey side, the food was delicious. Everything was high quality and cooked to perfection. For example, you can really tell a restaurants' attention to detail by something as simple as preparing vegetables. The mashed potatoes were excellent and the asparagus was cooked perfectly. If you are in the area or staying at the resort, I would recommend giving this place a try, you might be pleasantly surprised too. read more
