My husband and I were in Dublin for a day as part of a cruise itinerary. We wanted to go to The Temple Bar, because it is an historic place. Everyone is telling us it is the hot-spot of Dublin and now we understand why.They have live music all the time and there are so many rooms that offer unique sitting throughout the bar. Sure, it's crowded and the prices might be a little high for Ireland but when you're a tourist used to the Parisian prices, it's not that expensive. (In general, less expensive than Paris for example.) The waitresses are more available and patient around lunch than in the afternoon ; good beer, good food, live music, ATMs and everything you might need in the toilets, everything is done so that you never leave the place. Despite what some people say it was the pub where we had the best memories in the Temple Bar district. read more

I hate to admit that I came here just to say I did. But I totally did. Honestly that was the reason that I picked it, sad to say. We didn't go out of the way or anything we were staying at a hotel a few blocks away. I really only wanted to have a drink but each night it was too crazy that I didn't want to fight the crowds just to say I had a drink there. The day we were leaving we walked around looking for a place to have lunch and since they were super slow we decide to eat. I think going for a late night drink would have been better. The bar/restaurant is way larger than it appears and there are tons of different rooms and seats. The service was really, really slow. The food menu was surprisingly large but the sandwiches we ordered were low-average and then a few hours later we both got sick. But hey, I ate and drank at The Temple Bar so I guess that is something. read more

A little pricey, which is to be expected at a major tourist hub such as this place. If you read the reivews here you will find many from unsuspecting tourists who have no knowledge of the Irish hospitality industry, Ireland in general or staff from this area who have a financial interested in steering you in this direction. If you want authentic Dublin at prices the locals pay then steer clear of here and within a 10 minute walk you will find it. I wont suggest anywhere in case Id be accused of promoting any place in particular. It is very upsetting to see tourists getting ripped off in our city and country when we have so much to offer. If on the other hand you are after the plastic Paddy experience then this is the place for you. The drinks go up the later in the evening you purchase them, up to 8 Euro a beer. This is the most expensive pub I've been in. Last time (literally) I was there. 15E couldn't cover two pints?? It's very annoying and embarrassing to think that visitors to our country and capital city get fleeced here. It's absolutely jammed constantly but that's a sign tourists are coming (mistakenly) The other problem is the place is pretty dirty and the staff look and act gruff. It must be hard that the cost of a pint is probably higher than your wage per hour. I wish we could alert tourists to avoid the Temple Bar area. All suggestions welcome! read more

My favorite spot in all of Dublin! Ok, so it wasn't the King's Head of Galway, but it still captured my heart (for a quick one night stand). It's big, loud, sort of trendy (and old school at the same time), and the drinks were tasty. Loved the live music. There was a good deal of seating scattered about, but on a busy night it was hard to find a spot to give my feet a break. It's located in Temple Bar, the hustle and bustle area of Dublin. Stop in if you find yourself with some free time. If you don't, it's not necessary to kick yourself. You'll find another place just like it. read more

Temple Bar is a busy holiday location for tourists. I personally like the place although I know a lot of Dublineers avoid it due to the over crowding and high prices. "The Temple Bar" is bang slap in the middle and could only get more Irish Touristy if it was constructed of a thousand leprechauns stacked on top of each other. Its a big big place and I am guessing usually buzzing with people. Temple bar has a lot of music on and to be honest they were quite good when we were there. Considering the number of people in they can probably afford decent bands! It was absolutely packed, although it wasn't too hard to get a drink. We were there until about 12 oclock. About 30 seconds past 12 a fight started outside between two idiots slapping each other around. I guess that's the downside of the place. While we were there, there were a few unsavory types knocking about. So if you want to see a real Irish bar go somewhere else, if you want to have a laugh when you are on holiday and listen to some good music give it a try. But don't stay out to late if you are not used to the rougher side of a big city. read more

I would imagine they sell allot of Guinness and therefore they know how to pull a pint but sadly no that logic doesn't standy up to scrutiny much like my pint. Temple Bar has lots! Its a major tourist spot with lots of shops and restaurants. However as a resident of Dublin this wouldn't be the first place i would go, purely because of the drunken hen and stag parties that seem to just live there all year round. However in saying that, there are some hidden gems in Temple Bar and its a great place to take a wander during the day. The first being the Saturday Food Market in the Square. This also holds loads of outdoor movies which I love to attend. Temple Bar is also home to a few bars that are I love like the VCC. As for food, Elephant and Castle do a great breakfast. Its got some great quirky stores with vintage and rock clothing such as eager beaver and some great art shops like the jam factory. It loosing one star because it can feel really dirty and grubby at times. Also because of its popularity its pretty awful for locals to get into any bars when its packed with tourists. read more

It's the epitome of a tourist bar (as is the surrounding neighborhood) so if you're looking to pop in because it's on your "Touristy Things To Do in Ireland" list, do it. Despite the touristy schtick, I liked this spot. It is in the heart of a lively area of Dublin and has some real history behind it (check out the exterior plaque explaining how the area got its name). It also sports live music, one of the largest menu offerings of creative sandwiches I have seen in a long time (along with local favorites such as black pudding and the like) and to make it even better, it has a larger selection of whiskey from the local area than many of the other area pubs. In trying to find a place that was a bit quieter, I ended up at the rear bar facing a great wall of Irish Whiskies many of which I have never seen or heard of. It is a great place to get your whiskey tasting on. Admittedly, I was there as a tourist so perhaps the whole jet-lagged aura and excitement of being in a historic and famous area while imbibing made it all the more enjoyable but it really was a fine place to stop for a leisurely bite that turned into an extended tasting with some great music to boot. read more

A decision I don't regret but wouldn't make again. €7.50 or there abouts for a pint and a ballad singer on (though the ballads were more general than authentic Irish ones). Ok so if you read all my other reviews I'm usually very forth giving with compliments so I'm sorry temple bar you just really peeved me off.. I'm a Dubliner and for so often have heard of "rip off pints" but just fobbed it off. Casually sat down outside because it was a beautiful day and I need a Bulmers to cool down and to be fair, its nicely set up outside with bar stools, flowers and tables (one star for that) My friend came back out with one long neck bulmers, a short of Bacardi and a 7up. Total cost 16.50. TOURISTS you will be ripped off here and even though they have fantastic live music (second star) it is not a clear reflection on Irish pubs or prices. I will say the guy who served us was friendly, but i doubt he's the one pocketing the massive mark up prices on their drinks. Terrible altogether read more

Unfortunately I didn't like the temple bar at all. Sold as a traditional "oirish pub" this is anything but. Sort of warped Disneyland version of an Irish pub. Full of tourists (obviously) taking snaps of themselves. (And no they weren't yelpers. So no excuses). Ridiculously overpriced and no atmosphere at all despite being completely full. Live music was ok but a little too overly forcibly "Irish". I would have given at least 2 stars but for the fact that I was asked to move away from the bar so that a waiter could get to his drinks order. There was plenty of space just behind me to get to his drinks but that would have meant him walking an extra three steps, something he clearly hadn't banked on and wasn't prepared to do. I guess this is a must do when in Dublin so by all means go and have a pint here so you can say you have but if you're looking for a real Irish pub experience there are hundreds of real Irish pubs to sample. (Hint: if there are tourists lining up to take pictures outside a pub it's probably not gonna be all that authentic or somewhere were the locals would ever drink in....) read more

Its always busy, music playing (usually live), and a great crowd at all hours. However, yes, it is very expensive. €7.50+ for a pint. Plenty of places to get pints for much cheaper nearby. It was very loud as well, so it would be hard to have a conversation and catch up with friends cause you will feel like you are shouting at one another. While some so far have given this place low ratings due to it being popular among the non-Dublin people, I can not be as harsh on this popular watering hole. Yes it is touristy...but honestly isn't much of Dublin touristy around these parts of the city? Yes it is packed at night...but aren't most of the pubs nearby as well? But I have to say that the bar is nice, has good music on when I go there, and has a nice staff. I try not to go back, but most of the time when I visit Dublin, it is with friends that have never been to the city before and want to check out this place. The touristy bar in the temple bar area...aptly named The Temple Bar I only had a night in Dublin in the trip and I wanted to start somewhere touristy Live music in one room but cleverly played throughout the pub and there are also a tv screen showing the band play too. The bar itself has quite a few rooms so on a busy night one could get lost but also find new friends on the trek out. Wifi available, always a good touch. They do food but I think I was a little late for that. Nice place to start a night and handy landmark/meeting place if you are new and meeting people as everyone knows where this pub is. read more

One stop shopping if you need to be a tourist. There was a group of Germans at the bar asking about PBR while I was there, and I mentioned that it's the shittiest American beer, and they gave me the stink eye as if I was lying to them, for whatever reason, then went on to pay an outrageous price for the shittiest beer they had at this location. If your a tourist(or not) in Dublin, you'll most likely stumble upon Temple Bar, and if your in Temple Bar, you'll most likely stumble into the Temple Bar Pub. Once in, if you have as I said 'stumbled in', it's probably a factor why you'll stay in for more than one drink.... This place is extremely expensive, playing on of course the vulnerability of tourists. On weekends, especially any time after 8pm getting to the bar is a mammoth task, or moving anywhere really.... So....It's aimed at tourists, it's expensive, it's crowded....So just WHY do I frequent this place so often? Well, it's all about TIME. The Temple Bar Pub, for me, comes into it's own when your there at the right time. A lot of places come alive on the weekends, in the late evenings, but the aforementioned crowds in The Temple Bar Pub just make it an uncomfortable place to be in. However, stroll in during the afternoon, preferably on a warm summer's day, go to the beer garden and enjoy a fine pint of Guinness. If it's chilly, the heaters all around provide ample warmth. So you have the comfort of indoors, the sky above and if your a smoker like me, you can enjoy a cigarette too....Perfect. Being a very popular tourist hang-out there are always enough bodies inside to keep it lively enough, so there's a great laid back vibe about it. You end up feeling like a tourist in your own city, especially when (And this happens nearly EVERY time I am in there) you get talking to some of the tourists. As soon as they find out your Irish you suddenly become this fountain of knowledge for them! Questions are asked left right and centre about where to go and what to do...but it's all a great laugh. The premises itself lies on just one floor(albeit toilets are downstairs) with two main bars. The 'front' bar is where the live music played, typical Irish folk and rebel songs, predictable enough but keeps the tourist's happy. The back bar is a bit more chilled with a couple of screens showing the most important sporting events. There is of course the great aforementioned beer garden too. Staff are friendly and the barmen are proper Dubs, a dying breed really, so it's good to have a laugh with them! Bouncers are fine too, none of the usual bravado macho attitude too common amongst the bars of Dublin. So check it out, weekend or midweek, around 3pm, grab a pint of the black, and take it easy. The first pub we stopped at in Ireland--it was cozy and a great spot for lunch and a beer. I know many people say it is touristy, but it really is the quintessential Irish pub and a must-see. When we stopped in here, we were very jet-lagged from our flight over from California. The bar-tenders were so friendly, entertaining, witty, and hilarious, it made us just a bit less jet-lagged and our afternoon enjoyable. Here's a sample of their wit. Thirsty after a long day of travel, I asked for a second glass of water. The bar tender poured me a larger glass and said with a smile, "And I have a whole bucket for yer too!" Then, we asked a second bartender if iPhone chargers were the same in Ireland as in America, and he chuckled, "Yes, and we don't have Hobbit holes either!" read more

Disclaimer: I don't like loud, packed bars. The Temple Bar is in a great location. Aside from that, it was a disappointment. It took a while to get our drinks (Guiness, 5euro per pint), and during that time we were knocked into a lot, and had a hard time hearing each other with the hen party next to us blowing whistles constantly. There was no good place in the bar to just sit and relax. We eventually found the back patio which offered a *little* more room, but was filled with smokers. A great place to go if you're in college and trying to hook up. Otherwise, avoid it. read more

Touristy pubs are the kind of place that make most Irish people cringe. You'll only ever find an Irish person there if they work there or have friends visiting Ireland from foreign lands. There aren't many Irish people who enjoy the stereotype of pubs made of tweed, thatch and misery staffed by people who can't go one sentence without saying "bejaysus". Call me a cynic, but I find that a lot of "Authentic Irish Pubs" layer on the Irishness a bit too thick for my liking. Don't get me wrong, I love Irish things, I just think it cheapens everything if it's done with the subtlety of a flying brick. The Temple Bar is one of the few "Authentic Irish Pubs" that ticks all of the boxes for both myself and the friends that I've brought there on their first visit to Ireland. I recommend this as a place to those visiting Ireland for the first time because it's got a decent range of beers and has all the qualities that a tourist wants without being too in-your-face about it. read more

I don't care that The Temple Bar is a big fat tourist spot. It's cool as hell! It wasn't particularly busy any of the 3 times I went during my few days in Dublin. We stumbled upon it while exploring on the first day and decided to get that checked off the list & ended up really enjoying the place. Good Guinness pour, really cool interior with an open roof area for smoking and the statue of James Joyce reading Dubliners that everyone wants to take a picture with. Maybe it gets a bad reputation for being touristy and I get that but don't discount it just for that. It's a great bar with plenty of space and good times to be had. Disappointed that I never tried the oysters (because they go well with Guinness for some reason) but maybe next time. read more
