If your a tourist(or not) in Dublin, you'll most likely stumble upon Temple Bar, and if your in Temple Bar, you'll most likely stumble into the Temple Bar Pub. Once in, if you have as I said 'stumbled in', it's probably a factor why you'll stay in for more than one drink.... This place is extremely expensive, playing on of course the vulnerability of tourists. On weekends, especially any time after 8pm getting to the bar is a mammoth task, or moving anywhere really.... So....It's aimed at tourists, it's expensive, it's crowded....So just WHY do I frequent this place so often? Well, it's all about TIME. The Temple Bar Pub, for me, comes into it's own when your there at the right time. A lot of places come alive on the weekends, in the late evenings, but the aforementioned crowds in The Temple Bar Pub just make it an uncomfortable place to be in. However, stroll in during the afternoon, preferably on a warm summer's day, go to the beer garden and enjoy a fine pint of Guinness. If it's chilly, the heaters all around provide ample warmth. So you have the comfort of indoors, the sky above and if your a smoker like me, you can enjoy a cigarette too....Perfect. Being a very popular tourist hang-out there are always enough bodies inside to keep it lively enough, so there's a great laid back vibe about it. You end up feeling like a tourist in your own city, especially when (And this happens nearly EVERY time I am in there) you get talking to some of the tourists. As soon as they find out your Irish you suddenly become this fountain of knowledge for them! Questions are asked left right and centre about where to go and what to do...but it's all a great laugh. The premises itself lies on just one floor(albeit toilets are downstairs) with two main bars. The 'front' bar is where the live music played, typical Irish folk and rebel songs, predictable enough but keeps the tourist's happy. The back bar is a bit more chilled with a couple of screens showing the most important sporting events. There is of course the great aforementioned beer garden too. Staff are friendly and the barmen are proper Dubs, a dying breed really, so it's good to have a laugh with them! Bouncers are fine too, none of the usual bravado macho attitude too common amongst the bars of Dublin. So check it out, weekend or midweek, around 3pm, grab a pint of the black, and take it easy. Disclaimer: I don't like loud, packed bars. The Temple Bar is in a great location. Aside from that, it was a disappointment. It took a while to get our drinks (Guiness, 5euro per pint), and during that time we were knocked into a lot, and had a hard time hearing each other with the hen party next to us blowing whistles constantly. There was no good place in the bar to just sit and relax. We eventually found the back patio which offered a *little* more room, but was filled with smokers. A great place to go if you're in college and trying to hook up. Otherwise, avoid it. read more

Touristy pubs are the kind of place that make most Irish people cringe. You'll only ever find an Irish person there if they work there or have friends visiting Ireland from foreign lands. There aren't many Irish people who enjoy the stereotype of pubs made of tweed, thatch and misery staffed by people who can't go one sentence without saying "bejaysus". Call me a cynic, but I find that a lot of "Authentic Irish Pubs" layer on the Irishness a bit too thick for my liking. Don't get me wrong, I love Irish things, I just think it cheapens everything if it's done with the subtlety of a flying brick. The Temple Bar is one of the few "Authentic Irish Pubs" that ticks all of the boxes for both myself and the friends that I've brought there on their first visit to Ireland. I recommend this as a place to those visiting Ireland for the first time because it's got a decent range of beers and has all the qualities that a tourist wants without being too in-your-face about it. read more

Met up with a friend here In Dublin, and had a fantastic night. The live performer(s) were fantastic, playing a mix of well known American, Irish, and British songs. They had the crowd going wild! The drinks seemed to be a bit overpriced. A beer cost €7.65. After 11:30 pm, the prices rose €.30. That would be my only complain of the bar. All in all, it was crowded on Saturday and Sunday nights, a sign of a healthy business. If you are in Dublin, be sure to stop by. If you're in Dublin, you should definitely see Temple Bar just for the sake of seeing it. It's the most popular bar in the city and a nightlife that is popular with tourists, but its always crowded, loud, full of drunk people. If you're in the right mood for it, it may be fun. But I was not. I went by, stopped by for a photo, grabbed a drink, and moved on. I preferred the restaurants outside of the temple bar area. I'm glad we went once, but once was definitely enough for me. However, the neighborhood is very cute with its Cobbled streets. At 6.90Euro a Pint (which is defiantly the most expensive pint I've ever had) you're paying for the atmosphere when it comes to Temple Bar. It is a must do on your trip to Dublin. While it may seem like a Tourist Trap (again the prices certainly reflect that) there are a fair amount of Locals that prop up the bar as we discovered - as they "do a really good pint". There's always live music playing throughout the day - which I love. Even if it can get a bit samey - it's just refreshing to see a live act in a bar not exclusive to after dark. The epitome of Temple Bar twee. I avoid places like The Temple Bar like the plague. Busy and overpriced. But I was here with a friend who was meeting her american relatives, so The Temple Bar it was to be. It was a Thursday night and it was slightly packed in the front bar. The next area was jammed with people watching the two piece band through out the diddly-eye music. But in fairness they played decent diddly-eye, of which the sound was excellent. A guitar and fiddle player. The place emptied a bit and we jumped on the barrel and high-stools. Woo, seats! Then the place filled up again, with even more people. It ebbs and flows like the tide in there Had a bit of trouble finding the toilets, looked for signs but ended up asking a member of staff. Maybe there was more signage than the sign above the stairs the toilets are at the bottom of, but I didn't see them. A lowlight (or perhaps highlight for some) was watching two drunk men slap each other around outside on the street. Both too inebriated to actually land any proper punches. This is Temple Bar. I get it, it's a tourist hot-spot. But, for it to be good makes it impressive. We have all seen it, that iconic location in a city where you must must go (!!). So many times these locations are over-hyped, over-priced, and just plain bad. Well, simply put, Temple Bar isn't. This place is great. We ate here twice while we were in Dublin. Delicious sandwiches! And a good rough beer selection, with friendly and seemingly organized staff. How they manage to keep a positive attitude amongst the chaos of this landmark is beyond me. They are well prepared and well trained to handle what troubles may come. I think people are wrong to call it a tourist trap. yea...so I was staying across the street at the W hotel, in the Temple Bar area and I HAD to come here since its THE popular local bar. It was okay. Tons of tourists. Smelled like stale beer in the entrance. Lots of young Irish dudes drunk off their asses. This spot isn't one giant bar area...its a giant bar area subdivided into various alcoves so you can get lost while drunk. I think I had 10 Guinness pints (yea yea, I know Pints = Guinness) and was still not drunk...well, not as drunk as the 150 other patrons who were yelling and singing. They tend to travel in herds of up to twenty beasts, although, family units of just two or three have been spotted exploring the harsher climate of areas such as Dame Street or Trinity College. Their numbers have halved this year due to environmental factors beyond our control, ie; global economic implosion. The watering holes of Temple Bar, however, remain among the few places within which they still gather en masse. And this particular watering hole effectively forms the foundation of their civilization, if you could call it that. The Temple Bar has managed to achieve what thousands of paddy's fail to find every summer, when we spread sprinting to every corner of the world, and created a pub with absolutely no Irish people in it. It's a miracle of social engineering. And now I, like so many of my native brethren, can no longer afford to go abroad. So I think I might just start coming here for my holidays. Four of us went to the temple bar last week. I would not recommend going here. We were all warned in advance by many of the locals, that it is extremely busy, overpriced, and very poor service. We definitely experienced all of the above. From the moment we arrived, the waitress did not come to our service, until we personally went to ask her to take our order. She also had absolutely zero knowledge of the beer on tap. As a result, we definitely did not get what we had requested. It is extremely noisy, and chaotic. Save your money and go to a pub that the locals go to. You will be happy that you did not go here to experience the chaos, warm beer as well as the terrible service. One word: sandwiches! Temple Bar does killer sandwiches, like the kind its worth travelling across a city for. Open sandwiches, closed sandwiches, hot sandwiches, toasted sandwiches... they have it all! My favourite is the pastrami and swiss on sour dough - a taste of heaven! Honestly, while in Dublin you have to go check it out: they have hundreds of choices! A great accompaniment is one of their Irish Coffees - which are strangely made with coffee granules not fresh - but is also delicious! A lot of reviews talk about the crazy night out, but I just go in the day, when its pretty civilised and quiet except from the sounds of the live Irish music! read more

Well I'm a tourist so... I like it. We met some awesome people. Have I mentioned how much I love the Irish style patio? More of a courtyard really. It's just a beautiful pub with a lot of energetic people. We were there during the day and had a blast. I don't mind this one at all. Apart from the fact that it is always packed to the brim and very hard to move around in, but once you're in and have a drink, you're grand. If you're not going to do the tourist thing and have a Guinness (well you probably should here, this is tourist mecca) may I recommend sampling the 1/4 bottle of rose? It is surprisingly tasty for pub wine. Good place to meet any number of people from any number of backgrounds. Just don't get separated from your group and don't try dancing in here - impossible! This was one of the most crowded bars I have ever been in. I am not a crowds kind of guy, so my wife and I grabbed a chunk of wall across from the bar kind of just tried to soak it in and stay out of the way. It wasn't particularly rowdy or anything like that - just really crowded. Probably 99% tourists. I had a really nice aged whiskey (with an 'e'), although I can't recall the name. By far, the most worth it experience as a tourist. People say that it's a tourist trap, and i suppose it may be, but it was great to check off our list. It was packed for Arthur's Day and was very festive. I have to say I enjoyed the atmosphere - BUT if you have never been before, know that it is large and many more rooms than just two! There is a whole patio and other area - even a downstairs bathroom. It's expensive, but remember that all places can be. If you know you're looking for tourist-y things, this is the place. You know, I was hesitant to go to Temple Bar in Dublin because it's the one place people told me that they would recommend that I avoid. It's supposedly really touristy and cheesy and not an authentic Irish experience. I went anyway, just to see for myself. There was great live music that night and they played an interesting combination of American music and Irish music. It definitely was crowded, but not in a way that felt like too much. I might not go back to this bar night after night, but it is certainly worth going to a few times.
