16oz mocha, ham & cheese kolache, and banana pudding (1/20/25)
    Marie B.

I had planned to grab a late lunch up in the North Creek/Canyon Park area of Bothell. But I wanted to see what other indie coffee spots existed versus my usual spot (1/20/25). I came upon a FTR from Oliver G that piqued my interest to seek out The Texan. I was beginning to think my gps was out of whack as it brought me to a business park. But the bright outdoor seating reassured me that this indeed was accurate. I was fortunate that The Texan was open on MLK Day, a federal holiday. The walk up cafe made use of all available space, definitely well stocked. I had briefly viewed their website earlier, so I had honed in on what I had planned to order. Regular hot mocha can be crafted up to 24oz, but I opted for a 16oz instead ($5.50). Pretty decent and sure piping hot! Next time I'll be smart and grab a cup sleeve. The menu also has other creative spins on the mocha. They have kolaches! These are popular sweet or savory pastries in Texas with Czech origins. I ended up selecting a ham and cheese kolache ($5.50), which was kindly heated up. Due to the rest of my day, it was refrigerated overnight and reheated the next morning. My only points of reference had been kolaches from a long time brick and mortar in West Seattle and local farmers markets and another specialty spot in Marysville. Their version had a tender, sweet dough with the signature divit that encased generous ham and cheese filling. Delicious! I also bought an 8oz banana pudding ($4.75). This was also refrigerated overnight and made for an unconventional breakfast with the kolache. My point of reference were faint childhood memories of creaminess and Nilla wafers. The other spot to compare is a very popular BBQ spot in Marysville. Here the overall color is slightly pale yellow and a very pronounced banana flavor. Rich and decadent! This spontaneous drive north to seek out The Texan also provided an opportunity to locate various biotech/biopharma companies randomly driving through the sprawling business park in Bothell. Note: Sign up to accrue points "armadillos" via their POS system at the main counter. Also, their original drive through location is in the Silver Lake area of Everett. Another recommended northend indie establishment with slight detour off of I-405 and Bothell-Everett Highway.

My favorite local coffee spot. The owners are the sweetest, it's run by the whole family. It's very calm inside with plenty of space to eat and talk. 10/10 would recommend. The coffee is AMAZING!

Their rice pockets are SO good and incredibly filling, my latest obsession. I've tried the packaged 4-pack from H Mart before, but these are made fresh to order and seared, which takes them to a whole different level. I love all the different toppings and flavor combinations. Even though I keep coming back for the rice pockets, the rest of the menu looks delicious and gives me plenty of reasons to branch out on future visits. If you're already stopping by H Mart, definitely make time for a visit. I'll keep coming back for those rice pockets!

We visited specifically to order a sweet corn latte, a drink which we've never had before and were interested in trying. Sweet Corn Latte, Iced 20oz ($7) - Surprisingly sweetness adjustments are allowed on this drink. The drink itself has a nice mellow corn aroma and a balanced milky flavor. It isn't too sweet. There's some fresh corn mixed in that's not that sweet compared to most canned sweet corn. There's stabilized whipped cream sweet on top studded with corn and then sprinkled with cocoa powder for some color. We asked to upgrade to 20oz but didn't get charged any more. Not sure how that works! (4/5) The drink probably has better presentation if ordered for dine-in rather than to-go given that the cap they give crushes the whipped cream. Photos from other Yelpers indicate that they have domed lids but for some reason they gave us a flat lid. K Cafe Dabang serves some pretty tasty drinks. We shop at the H-Mart around once a month, so it makes sense to return to try some more sweets. Bathrooms: Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women.

When meeting for our tasting, we went with the more extravagant 8 flavor option as my husband is a chocolate fan but I am not...this was well worth the price as we got 8 mini cakes to try which meant plenty to take home and enjoy over the weekend! Christina won us over with her flavors and enthusiasm, she provided some off the menu suggestions for mixing and matching sponge and fillings which was awesome. Ultimately, we settled on a mix of a traditional wedding cake (we were so pleased to get more than one flavor choice), along with a smaller gluten free cake and a number of sweet treats to appeal to a wide range of dietary restrictions and palates. When it came to design, Christina was very attentive to our inspiration photos/vision but also mindful of our budget as sugar past dahlias are not easy or inexpensive! When we discussed incorporating our dogs, she had a vendor lined up to make figurines and took care of the ordering process once we provided her some photos. Ultimately, she knocked it out of the park both with appearance and taste! I am hopeful that she waives her fee minimum in the event we want a one tier anniversary cake (-:

My only gripe is that I would LOVE to order that cake again to surprise my SIL with, but alas due to the order minimum I probably won't be able to make it happen. Totally understandable as Christina is rightfully thoroughly booked with bigger orders.

Before the closed down, I paid for two Korean dogs and after paying, their machine broke, so the employees then wrote me a "gift card" for me to bring back and get my two Korean dogs at a later day when they fixed it - all of us thinking it would be just a few days. They ended up closing for "maintenance" and then stayed closed for a couple of months - when I suppose this is the time it changed hands. I went in today with my "gift card" and ordered the two Korean dogs (which I had already paid for with the old owners) and ordered some other items as well. The employee took it to her manager. The manager then took it to the new owner, who was literally sitting 5 feet away from me. She said NO! Then after I explained the situation again, she said that she give me one. Not the two on the card. I totally get it. I could have been absolutely a liar and taking advantage. BUT I am not and was not. So, yes, it would have been nice for her to honor the words and obligations of the previous owners (she didn't keep any of the old staff either which made me sad because they were incredible staff and known for their great customer service), but she chose not to. Then the electronic menus were not working so the staff member had to read to me about a few things. Then I paid cash and they didn't even have coins to give me correct change. Looks like it's a rough start to what used to be a great mochinut store to go to. And she would have had made a long time customer had she trusted me, the card I brought in, and honored it. Today, I'm leaving with kind of a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't even taken a bite of anything yet. Hopefully the food tastes better than the service.

About 10 minutes from the Woodenville winery. As we stepped inside, a warm and enchanting ambiance wrapped around us, filled with the harmonious sounds of clinking glasses and plates that blended in perfect harmony. The heavenly aroma of freshly prepared food wafted through the air, teasing our senses and building excitement while the cozy decor instantly elevated our mood. With an exceptional selection of wine and drinks, plus captivating indoor and outdoor seating, it seemed every whim was thoughtfully catered to. Despite arriving at 1:00 to a lively crowd, we were seated promptly, thanks to the impeccable and exceptional service. Our server's remarkable attentiveness and expertise set the tone for a truly unforgettable meal, and another staff member exceeded our expectations, sharing delightful stories about all their special events, such as Happy Hour and Wine Wednesday, and inviting us back for dinner. She shared that the biscuits we inquired about were made in-house, a testament to the restaurant's pursuit of excellence. With customer service that inspires and leaves a lasting impression, we can't wait to return and relish the experience once more. I highly recommend the Biscuits and gravy, Eggs Benedict, or the Cottage Breakfast; all were truly spectacular! This place truly deserves a spot on your must-visit list, and I highly recommend it.

However, yesterday on 6/28 when the wait was too long so I decided to choose takeout, it was the worst service I've ever experienced. I walked inside, placed the takeout order, and was told it would be ready in about 15 minutes. I went outside to the bench to wait to realize the server didn't take my name for the order. After about 20 minutes had passed, I walked back inside to look for someone. I saw another server walk over when I was lost and waiting and she ended up helping another group who walked in after me, so I was ignored. Then I initiated the conversation and asked about my order and she said "Oh please wait outside and we will come out to give you your order when it's ready." I glanced over and noticed someone bagging takeout orders, so I walked back outside. Another 25 minutes passed and no one has come out to deliver my takeout order. It was about 45 minutes since I placed the order and I was not happy. I walked back inside and asked the server behind the counter. Mind you this is the 3rd server. They asked what I ordered (since my name was not taken down when the order was placed, it made it unorganized) and one of the two takeout bags that was sitting on the counter for a good 20 minutes I noticed it was my order. When I got home, the burger buns were all soggy and the fries were soft and not crispy anymore. This is such an unfortunate situation because I've always shared positive comments about The Cottage, but with the experience I had yesterday, I will be rethinking to come back.
