Downtown Edmonds has so many coffee shops and my goal for this year is to try as many coffee shops as I can. I stumbled open Red Twig, beautiful location in downtown Edmonds. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with cozy vibes. They have a lot of different coffee and pastries. We got a variety of pastries to try. First was the cinnamon roll, we had it warmed up at home and it still tasted super fresh and delicious. The M&M's cookie was huge, not too sweet, perfectly soft and crunchy. The other pastries we had was raspberry croissant, and a muffin, all tasted pretty good. I think all their pastries are fresh, delicious, and not that sweet compared to other bakeries. I highly recommend getting their cinnamon roll. This cafe is perfect for the all seasons especially summer if you want to sit outside and enjoy the view of downtown Edmonds. They have plenty of seatings inside and outdoor. Parking is limited since it's downtown Edmonds so it's a bit challenging but it's worth it because you get to enjoy fresh pastries and you can also have a nice walk down to the beautiful town and beach after. read more

Met a friend for coffee and ended up having a bacon quiche and a Chai Latte. Very delicious! Service is always fast! Barely any waiting. However it was 9:00 am, and only 2 tables were full by the time we left nearly all the tables were full including outside seating. This is a quaint coffee shop. Fun spot to hang at. Entrance is on the side of the building. There may be a line where you order and after find seating. Staff were friendly and helpful. We ordered 2 lattes, one for here and one for a to go cup. Ended with both cups for here. Coffee is picked up on the side of the counter. Once you order they give you a number if your dining in. They will deliver your food at your table. The pancakes were fluffy . The whip cream and sauce worked well with the pancakes. The Scrambles Spinach, Cherry Tomatoes & Feta dish was delicious. We were in town for a conference, and by the time of our visit on a Saturday afternoon, many of the pastries were sold out - and the staff seemed "over it." Our little group quickly decided on a few things from the case: an iced cookie, a raspberry scone, and a chocolate croissant. All of the items were okay - none spectacular - none terrible. While we didn't have time to enjoy it, the outdoor seating area, with its distinctive red umbrellas, was quite charming. The girl who took our order was flustered and it kind of gave me anxiety w/how rushed the ordering process was (it was our first time, so we had questions, felt like a burden to ask anything) We ordered 2 specialty coffee drinks, I got the orange latte and he got something else (can't remember the flavor) When we finally got our drinks, they tasted identical. I didn't taste any notes of orange, nothing special or different in either of the drinks, which for the time we waited for the drinks and the price paid, was very disappointing. We got a white chocolate raspberry muffin (it was AMAZING) and we ordered the breakfast sandwich and a sweet potato Parmesan scramble. We got our food, & thankfully my fiancé traded meals with me (the scramble was not my thing) the sandwich was really tasty though. All in all my review is mixed. My mom and I both ordered the turkey sandwich and the only redeeming quality was the garlic mayo. The turkey was just a big chunk in the middle of the sandwich, the lettuce was not fresh, and the bread was so dry and tough that it was hard to swallow. It also took about 30 min for us to even get our food which seems a bit long for two cold sandwiches. TLDR: no seating inside for strollers, and bland food/drinks. I came with a fellow mom and our strollers around 5pm. There was plenty of seating inside, as well as some seating outside as well. The hallway to order was pretty narrow, so I would have understood if they asked us to put our strollers to the side or something. But they told us strollers aren't allowed inside, and suggested sitting in the white tent outside. Unfortunately, there wasn't any heating in the tent. I am a bit disappointed that we weren't able to put our strollers against the wall or something so our babies could stay warm. The inside was almost empty, so it wasn't like there wasn't any space. Food & drink: I ordered an earl grey latte and spinach & cheese quiche, while my friend ordered a mocha and cookie. The theme for my items are: very subtle flavors. For the earl grey latte, I guess I expected an espresso latte with earl grey syrup. But it was literally earl grey tea with milk. No coffee to make it a "latte." The quiche was very healthy - or basically very plain and if there was seasoning, I really couldn't tell. It just tasted like eggs. I enjoy quiche when it's a little more savory and has more body/depth of flavor from fats (either butter or bacon or something). Or at least add some salt and pepper!!! All in all I'm pretty disappointed in both the accommodation for families and the very poor quality of food and drinks. read more

I met up with a friend for a bite - when we arrived at 9 it was pretty much as busy as it could be. Thankfully someone left just after we ordered. You need to pick up your coffee, but they bring the food to your table. You're expected to clean up afterwards. I had a vanilla latte and the "GOAT" breakfast - goat cheese avocado toast. I used to love this place. I don't know whether they're under new ownership or what, but they've just really gone downhill in the last couple years. I went there last week and got an avocado toast. I got one piece of gluten-free toast with three slices of avocado and two cherry tomatoes cut in half for $15!! Insane. It didn't used to be this way. The chaotic amount of people here, the struggle for a table and minimum service all took away from the ambiance here. Even early morning, there was a struggle to get your food. I prefer an atmosphere, where I enjoy ordering and being served. This is more a battle here, ordering, being served and bussing your own table. This takes away from a relaxed weekend atmosphere. I ordered the Norwegian salmon Benedict. This has "two eggs poached on an english muffin with your choice of flavor, topped with hollandaise and sprouts, and served with roasted potatoes" The eggs were slightly overcooked, more hard boiled than poached. The hollandaise was creamy and lemony. The roasted potatoes had a nice flavor, but were served luck warmed. The English muffin was barely toasted, making the dish doughy, rather than a crisp contrast. The salmon was slight, wished to have more. We also ordered the summer special of peachy keen French toast. I love peaches, so had to order this. Picky about my peaches, this came with a caramely peach compote. I did enjoy the flavors here. Lovely, it was topped with vanilla bean ice cream and oat crunchies and caramel drizzle. Usually do not like sweet for breakfast, this was very tasty. Overall,the food is good. However, the overall popularity and lack of staff take away from the experience. The overcrowding of table space, the long lines for orders and extended wait time after ordering takes away from a pleasant experience here. Would recommend, based on these factors. read more

Went to Red Twig on a Tuesday morning in February and really wish I had chosen a different coffee shop. First, staff is like talking to a limp rag. Barely a word from them and feels like they are annoyed you are there. Next, latte was lukewarm. Felt like a hot shot with cold milk poured into it. Would have returned it if I thought the staff would have dealt with it. Food was somewhat cold, dry potatoes and what was supposed to be a two egg scrambled looked like one egg. Tables were all dirty, table wobbled so coffee spilled, and yet the place was packed. Been here ever since they first opened and experienced their ups and downs. As a creature of habit, I tend to hangout at another indie cafe two blocks away in downtown retail core of Edmonds. So I am very late to the party at Red Twig Bakery Cafe, open since 2005. I have heard positive raves about it from my sister-in-law and a former colleague. I finally had an opportunity to check out this popular spot earlier this Sunday morning for a breakfast meetup with another Yelp/IG friend, CC (6/25/23). I was able to find nearby street parking and joined the line onsite. As an aside, this line did not let up for the 3.5 hours we were seated indoors. One has to order, complete payment, and then provided a table number before finding available seating indoors (table or counter) or at their outdoor patio. The latter was definitely popular as the skies cleared with bright, warm sunshine. The volume is controlled because the person taking orders also periodically paused and brought out entrees to tables. Items cooked fresh to order, no heat lamps here. Coffee and baked item orders are provided at the counter. Entrees and flatware/napkins in individual compostable pouches are brought to one's table. At the end, customers are expected to bus their table. Essentially follow the house rules, be patient especially during weekend breakfast/brunch hours, because quality cannot be rushed. I liked the layout, aesthetic, and noted that pastries are baked onsite and they roast their own coffee beans. The coffee roasts and other merch are available for purchase by the main entrance. CC encouraged that we have coffee and pastries to start. I considered a breve or a cortado, but we both ordered 8 oz mochas and shared a chocolate croissant and a strawberry almond scone - recommended by the counter person. Mochas were balanced, no coffee art though, and light to medium house roast. The scone was decent with a moist crumb and lightly glazed, even paired well with jam. The pain au chocolat / chocolate croissant was dusted with powdered sugar, not well laminated, a bit overproofed, but generous with the chocolate. I ordered the Bacon and Asparagus Scramble, which came with breakfast potatoes, multigrain toast and jam. I really enjoyed this particular savory scramble, toast, and the generous serving of jam. Too bad they didn't sell multigrain bread loaves. I really enjoyed my toast, wished I had another slice. The breakfast potatoes were okay, but definitely to be consumed while hot. CC ordered the Salmon Benedict with breakfast potatoes. It was interesting to see it topped with sprouts. She did comment that she wished her English muffin slices were toasted more, eggs weren't properly poached, and the hollandaise sauce wasn't up to par. Enjoyed that despite the line during this first visit, there was ample seating available. Therefore, we didn't feel rushed during our meal, lively conversation, and extended stay. Note that this was during Sunday breakfast/brunch hours. I have no comment on what the volume or vibe is like during weekday business hours. Enter the Enforcer. A young woman emerged from the kitchen, walked over to my table, and delivered an order: "You can't have THAT coffee here." I blinked. "The raspberry croissant is from Red Twig," I pointed out. "The coffee came from up the street--on my way here." "No outside food or drink," she said with the finality of the military police . "But the place is empty," I protested. "You really want me to choose between your pastries and my morning coffee?" "You should order your coffee here, or your food there." "I have ordered your coffee in the past" I said, "but if I had done so today, I'd still be in line. Your pastry service is excellent. Your barista? Slower than a turtle wading through molasses." That didn't go over well. So I packed up, book and dignity intact, and walked out. And there, my friends, is the quandary of Red Twig: remarkable pastries, thoughtful quiches, generous hot breakfasts--and a barista who treats urgency as a theoretical concept. This place is super cute. My friend and I sat outside. The restaurant always seems to busy but the staff are nice. I had the Aztec coffee and subbed coconut milk which was amazing. Also, I ordered the spinach and artichoke scramble which was really good with potatoes. The eggs could have been flavored a little more with spices. The potatoes were yummy, crispy and flavorful. I only knocked down the stars because my order was first delivered completely wrong with meat scramble and although they took it back to remake... it had been awhile and I still did not receive my food until I went back to the counter to ask for it. Having heard amazing things about their food AND that they had many gluten-free options, I was so excited to try this place. Their site and the hours ETCHED on their front door said they were open until 9pm but when we went in close to 6pm, they told us they were closing at 6pm. Although they were very kind about it, it was very frustrating. If there was a reason, like them being short-staffed, it would be nice for them to tell us why. I just wasn't up for challenging it because there was no point - it is not like the kitchen was going to change their mind and make me a meal (and I would not want to force them to - who knows what they may do to my food). So for me with them, that was my "moment of truth" in which that is how I now see the business - unreliable and not customer-focused. So I just cannot go back to support them as a result. The good side is that we tried the Fire and the Feast as a result and it was mind-blowingly good. So, if you really want to try this restaurant, I would recommend calling first so you do not waste your time finding parking and getting there, just to find out they are closing/closed and are not honoring their posted business hours.
