We decided to stop in at the Texan on our way home. It's similar to another well known convenience store just down the road. While this store is much smaller the similarities do not go unnoticed. Clean bathrooms, hot prepared foods, lots of beverage choices, snacks, and touristy souvenirs are just a few of the things you will find here. One thing that did trouble me was that there weren't prices on things. I saw a cute stuffed toy I considered purchasing, but I couldn't find a price. Saw a cool baseball cap I considered purchasing--no price. I did like that it wasn't as crowded as its competitor. This gave us the opportunity to browse without the crowds. We have passed this Buc-ee's-wannabe so many times and finally decided to stop on the way home from San Antonio. It's SO CRAZY how similar they are! The look. The smell. The items. Even the restroom with the painting in the hallways are the same. Grabbed the kids icees. Decent amount of flavors to choose from. Smalls were $1.79, mediums $1.99. BUT the prices of the food seemed VERY VERY high. For instance, a TINY brisket/potato taco (which I could eat in like 3 bites) was $9!!!! No thanks. Cashier was friendly. She accidentally rang in 3 mediums but one was a small. I corrected her. NDB Cleanliness was top notch, just like Buc-ee's. We'd stop again. read more

I enjoy stopping here. There are tables where I can sit to enjoy the bbq, tacos , pizza, and steam table food. There are daily specials. The coffee beans are always fresh, and they sell bags of them. The beer is kept inside a cooler called the Cave, and at 28 degrees. Lots and lots and lots of gas pumps and many bathroom stalls. No waiting. read more

I really enjoyed mystop here, I needed coffee, but it was in the afternoon and I wanted coffee that was fresh, and I heard they have fresh coffee here from reviews. I found they have lots of coffee here, both decaf and regular and specialty. They are also all kinds of snacks to buy. This is a very large place, with food to go or eat there. There is a dining area inside the Texan that allows people to eat their food here, unlike the very major competitor. My only criticism was that the gasoline was more expensive than where I came from or where I was going. I filled up at $3.19, yet in Houston it was under three dollars just about everywhere. Never heard of this place before until I was driving past it. Different theme, but basically, another Bucee's gas store that sells similar merchandises. There are some things that are different like their food items, drinks, etc. It's like going to Sams Club and Costco, both similar, but different. They have their own mascot emblem, cheap gas, bakery, and hot/cold food area. I did notice that they have a dining area which I think was very convenient for those who want to just relax and eat before driving again. Overall, like Bucees, it's a bit pricey so if you don't pay attention to what you're buying, you'll end up buying $60-$100s worth of snacks lol. Pretty large parking lot. My friend and I stopped at The Texan on our recent drive from San Antonio to Houston for Memorial Day Weekend to go to the restroom and grab a quick breakfast. The restrooms were clean, not crowded and the store area had a great selection of items (drinks, deli items, snacks/candy, etc). Both my friend and I decided to order from the restaurant counter inside. We ordered: - Chicken Fajita Breakfast Platter w/ Rice: Better than expected with flavorful and well cooked chicken (I was worried it would be chewy). - Fajita & Egg Breakfast Platter w/ Sausage, Potatoes and Refried Beans (tortilla on the side): All components were much better than I would've expected for a gas station breakfast! Seasoned appropriately and very flavorful. - Blueberry Cream Cheese Kolache: The woman recommended having this heated up so we did. It was very soft with a sweet blueberry cream cheese center and had a doughy and salty outer rim. This was good but not something I'd order again. One thing I loved about this breakfast counter was how many egg types they had to choose from (plain scrambled eggs, egg & sausage, egg & fajita, egg & chorizo, egg & bacon, etc). Additionally, the portions were reasonable. The downside to the breakfast counter was how incredible slow it was. The woman working had no idea what she was doing and I had to tell her what the menu said came with the breakfast platter. She even tore up my sausage patties into little pieces because she didn't know where they should go in the to-go box. Luckily, tearing it up doesn't change the flavor so I didn't mention it. Also, the pricing was different than listed/ wrong when I went to check out so I'd suggest checking it before paying. Overall- I'd definitely stop here again! read more

If Buc-ces is the Gold Standard, The Texan is pyrite. It's shiny and clean looking, but don't let the luster fool you. The bathrooms are plentiful but could use help. Half the sinks don't work and the towel dispensers were jammed. However, it is miles above the normal truck stop. The food all looks fresh, but is more expensive than the beaver's. For the scale they are trying to draw people in, they only have 4 cashiers and they can't keep up, which causes they to be curt and less friendly than you would like. As just a gas station, I would give The Texan a 3-4, but as an alternate to Buc's as they are obviously shooting for, they are a solid 2. read more

first time reviewer of anything but i was truly so upset i had to! i'm on a 14 hour road trip and had to make a quick stop, thought a buccees-esque gas station was the perfect place! it was cute when i walked in, i round the turn to the bathrooms; just mopped, no sign until the very end (in the bathroom), thanks for the heads up! i got a parfait, assuming it was like buccees with a seal on it, barely open the lid.. granola everywhere so i flip it upside down, still holding the lid on there to save the last of the granola when the yogurt starts leaking from the cup. thank you texan for making a pregnant woman cry and for creating a faulty parfait cup, my partner is pretty pissed too that he has to clean yogurt from under the seat. yeah it got everywhere. thanks. p.s save yourself and don't get the parfait read more

Visited this place one our way to San Antonio back from Houston. This place is literally a mini Buc-ee's! Bathrooms are immaculate. Snacks and food on par for a truck stop. Pricing was affordable and fresh. 4 stars only because that's the very best a truck stop can receive without any service needs. Just a stop. read more

Do not eat anything from this place! Awful food and horrible service from the deli/food counter. Whoever the employee was at 7:15pm 12/24 was absolutely rude and needs a customer service lesson. My husband asked for a chopped beef sandwich that was colder than the North Pole. When he told the employee she was ignorant enough to take it and place the foil wrapped item in the microwave. That should have been the first clue to just run, but being hungry and no where else to really eat that was open, he took it. It was mushy and just awful. My counter order was wrong when I asked for it to be corrected not even any verbal acknowledgment that oh let me fix it for you or anything, no telling what they could have done to it when they took it back to change it. Just run next time, just run. And if they are trying to mimic Bucees, you're better off continuing to drive to the real thing. read more

Usually a good quality ibis was and one of my favorite places to stop along the way to Houston but this time it was not good. The gas station still offered the wide variety of items they always offer but the food service was horrible. Usually by the time we finish shopping and using the restroom the food is finished but this time we had to wait longer. And then when our order was finished they had only made one of what we ordered! After we told her and she said she would start working on the other one. After paying for our other goods we came back and she acted like we had never told her about the second one. You guys advertise great looking burgers on your billboards all over I-10, but when you get to the location, everything is wrapped in foil, and no one was at the counter to place an order, so I just figured I could only buy a foil wrapped and not special order a billboard burger. Bathrooms were not clean. There was toilet paper all over every stall. The music was at a ridiculous level. At 74 decibels the employees had to yell at each other and did so from across the room. I didn't want to spend any time at all in this store and walked out without making any purchase. I assume they are trying to compete with Bucees. Good luck.
