I am one of the lucky "few" who had the pleasure of eating at the ORIGINAL Ranger in North Freeport, and the subsequent locations on the Nautical Mile and Island Park. I was so excited to hear that someone had the smarts to bring it back. After the first bite of the 'special burger", I knew they had nailed it! They definitely have the original recipe for the sauce. It took me back 35 years. Many people are complaining that the burgers are too small. Well that's what the Ranger Burger is and always has been. The prices may seem high, but they are right in line with Five Guys, Smash Burger, and All American. I also loved the chili which had just the right amount of spicy! Finally! The sign has been in the place for months so anticipation has been tough .its new so its packed. Ordering was easy, waiting for food not so much. Its a get your ticket wait to hear your number system. Not out of the ordinary but not organized either. My order got called way after a few people that ordered much after me. Sometimes the best way to get to know a restaurant is how they handle a question or a concern. Today I found out that Texas Ranger is not only a place to go for delicious food (burgers, chili, shakes and fries) but also a restaurant where the owners deeply care about their restaurant and their customers. I had a question and the owner very kindly resolved it within less than an hour's time. Not only did he help me as his customer, but showed me that this is a home-town run restaurant where they really care about their business. Texas Ranger is not a chain and I love to support local businesses -- especially knowing when the staff and owners are community members just like us. So aside from the amazing delicious food (try the bacon and blu burger, the sweet potato fries, the pulled pork, oh, and leave room for a shake!) this is a top-service restaurant where your food is made to order, and the owners and staff are friendly. Upon a mistaken address by a delivery boy I stumbled across the menu for Texas ranger. I was intrigued by the menu and tried it out for lunch the next day. I ended up going to pick up my order Bc I was curious to see the place. It's very clean and has a 5 guys type of feel to it. Although I am not a fan of five guys and I am now a frequent customer at the Texas ranger! The burgers are great tasty and you can get pretty much any topping you can think of. A co worker who also ordered thought the burgers were too small. I didn't think so but perhaps the lunch special is a smaller burger then usual? Idk you'd have to find out for yourself but for the price you can't beat it. The fries are perfect crispy and tasty. You can also get them with chili and cheese. Which I'll prob try on my next order. Last time I ventured out and got wings and a milkshake. The wings were a little soggy not as crunchy as I'd like but still ok. The shake was good. I'm so happy the Ranger is back. I grew up in Freeport when the Ranger was by the LIRR and then on Nautical Mile. The new ownership "has the recipes" and the food is just as good as always. Went back to The Texas Ranger twice since my original review. The first time at the beginning of November ~ Grabbed 55.00 worth of specials to share with my family, brother and father (that was 10 burgers with tax). Got home burgers were hard as a rock, NO sauce on the coleslaw and the buns were stale as well. Extremely Disappointed. Wasted my hard earned dollars! Yesterday 1/4/15, my kids wanted to go, so I said this would be the last time I would waste the money if things didn't improve. Ordered 3 specials, 1 french fry and 3 fountain drinks with a total of 27.00 and change. The place was dead for the lunch rush (1:00 p.m.). One other person was there. Still waited about 15 minutes for the food ~ so I had high hopes we would get a fresh hot burger. The rolls were Hard As A Rock (again) and burgers were luke warm and 2 of the 3 burgers had so little sauce I had to go up and ask for extra sauce to put on ourselves. (Which I got "looks" from the 3 guys that were standing in the back) This place needs to stop relying on the memories of Freeporters and get the butts in gear. If you are going to charge Top Dollar for a 3 ounce burger Please make sure: The Burger is Hot, The Burger has More Than Enough Sauce (because that is the only reason people are coming there) and The Bun Is Fresh! read more

So when texas Ranger first open, I tried out the chicken sandwich , it was messy & wasn't tasteful . Didnt order from them since , Until lastnight . Girlfriend really wanted a burger so they were kinda our only option in freeport . We both got the freeporter & fries & wings . DELICIOUS. The burger was seasoned & all the toppings were cooked perfectly . I hate when you buy a burger with bacon on it & u take a bite & the whole piece of bacon comes out , that was not the case . It broke off with every bite I took . Fries are cooked to perfection perfectly crispy & not to much salt . Wings were good too . Got the spicy bbq but it wasnt spicy but they were still delicious . Burgers are still a little bit messy , workers should put more finesse in to that . Price for burgers & wings are typically what you would pay but the fries are a tad over priced . But it was worth the money . It really was . I give texas Ranger 5 stars . Happy freeport finally has a good burger spot . read more

Not Ready For Prime Time. I'm not sure if it is the same Texas Ranger from Island Park that I remember as a kid from 50 years ago. I was hoping. I live in the area and watched them build this new place over the summer and looked forward to giving it a try, but I wanted to wait a bit to give them a chance to iron out the wrinkles. That was today approx 3PM. I thought I would start simple for my first visit- bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink. $12.36. As I waited what seemed like a long time, especially since they weren't busy, I noticed my table had food particles on it, the floor was dirty and the napkin dispenser on my table was empty. But I wasn't there for the ambiance. When my number was called I took my order and began eating within a minute. The first thing I noticed is that the burger and roll seemed small. Upon closer examination the bacon ( there was a fair amount of it) was only slightly beyond raw and the burger was small and seriously overcooked. It was only mildly warm, same with the fries. The drink was fine. Oh yeah, I made the drink myself. My guess is the burger was precooked and waiting, and waiting some more. A man and woman who seemed to be the owners or managers were present. I caught her eye, she came over to my table and asked if everything was OK. I showed her the bacon and the burger. She said she was sorry and walked away. Oh well. I don't think I will go back. These folks make Burger King look good. read more

I have to say I was not impressed. They did a nice job with the renovations, the place looks very clean and has a few tables for dinning in, but it's plain. Nothing special. The food was just alright. When I eat at small locally owned business I look for what makes them special, what gives them a twist...this place doesn't have anything. Their patties for the burgers aren't freshly made, you can tell that off the bat. Their fries aren't made on premise, it came out of a bag in the freezer. Their "Texas" chili is nothing more than tough oily ground meat that you have to pay extra for if you want things like beans or cheese. I guess the owners never went to Texas because that is not how they make chili down south. For the portion sizes everything is over priced. Also, maybe this is simply a personal preference but what kind of burger and fries place doesn't serve milkshakes?? I don't think I'll bother coming here again and pay what I did for a tiny burger and limp fries when I can go to a place like Checkers and get double the food for the same price. I will give them credit on one thing though....they have REALLY GOOD BACON. read more

Not as good as the originals i had 25 years ago. I remember the originals being juicy and fairly reasonably priced. I would never go back. If i want a $5.00 hamburger ill go to 5 guys. Okay folks, I go back to when one of the original family members had a diner type joint way up on Main Street in Roosevelt, then frequented the place near the train station, then on Nautical Mile and finally at Water Lily's. My comments are as follows if anybody is listening. Hamburger too thick, make thinner, less cabbage and more sauce so that every bite has the sauce and you don't get a dry half a burger. Change price to about $3.00 per burger and you'll have a winner. Just my opinion. My husband likes the chilli, I had some too, okay. I really hope they work out the kinks as I would hate to see another Ranger place go by the wayside, especially here in Freeport read more

I give one star because the burger was pretty good but nothing like the original special. I lived in Freeport for 50 years and ate many of Angie's Pappa's specials. Like many people I was missing the Ranger and happy that it was going to open again in Freeport. I just returned from there and was very disappointed in both the Ranger special burger and the chili. The rolls were to big and were very hard and the sauce just tasted like mayo. The chili is nothing like Angie'. It was very bland, not spicy at all. As I said the food was ok but you will be disappointed it you are expecting the original for either of these items. read more

Love this place. Love how delicious the burgers are. I've been coming here for a while so over time I've realized that the quality of the food changes depending on who is working in the kitchen. I remember speaking with the cooks Jimmy and Erick and they're always incredibly funny and cook my food to perfection. The other cook however always screws up my order and I noticed that him and the other employees are always having "not safe for work" related conversations so I altogether try to avoid going when he is there. I have been going here since it opened and have always been very satisfied with the service and food.I was there yesterday Nov. 16, 2015 with three other people for lunch. There was one person working the counter which was fine because there were only two customers there and they were already eating. Three of us ordered one burger each and one person ordered two. There were 4 cooks and when our order came we were short two burgers, they gave us the burger and then insisted that we didn't order the 5th burger. The person at the register was arguing back and forth that we got everything we ordered, then the cook decided to argue with us about the order. I was very bothered by the fact that we were the only people there ordering food and they couldn't get the order right and then had the nerve to argue about it. We finally got our food and then as we were leaving I went to use the restroom. I walked in and it was filthy!!!! I might be staying away from there for now on. read more

My daughter suggested we order from The Texas Ranger because she was there a few days before and said the place was clean, the food was good and the staff was super friendly ... Since we didn't want to go out and she mentioned they delivered... We ordered a delivery ... SOOOOO GOOOOD! ... I ordered the turkey burger special topped with American cheese, shredded cabbage and tomato... OH MY GOD!... I devoured it!... Hubby ordered a beef burger special with bacon ... His also had the cabbage and tomato ... He devoured his as well ... He ordered grilled onions and I ordered sweet potato fries... When he finished he said he was full and didn't want to eat anymore... Me? ... I ate his grilled onions and continued onto my fries... (Didn't finish them though... I was full then) All were AMAZING! ... The delivery was quick too!... Highly recommend this place!... I hope they stick around for a while ... We paid $20.00 ... Not expensive at all ...
