Looking for some good seafood I'm glad I found this spot. The fried fish and shrimps were cooked perfectly. The beef empanadas were crispy and I enjoyed the beef filling flavors. Definitely some egg roll wraps they used but it was good. Decent fried calamari. The pina colada is so delicious! I would order it again. The lobster special was good. It did need some seasoning. A whole lobster for $30, so I can't really complain much. Out of the fried clam strips, friend oysters, and fried Cajun shrimps, I enjoyed the fried oysters the most. Oysters were soft to the palette. It was good. I love going to Jeremy's. The food is always good, and there's a lot to choose from on the menu. I always get the fried calamari with a dry batter and fries (you have a choice of beer batter or dry). I am writing this reluctantly, because I don't want anyone else to know what a jewel this place is on the nautical mile. It's unpretentious it's just good freaking food. The only difference between this place in a formal restaurant is that you get ceramic plates and metal forks and maybe a salad and a vegetable. But you're paying half the price for your entrée. You can pick your own seat they offer a big selection of outdoor dining with a beautiful view. Five years ago I gave this place 5 stars. Things change. The food was awful. Throw everything into a deep fryer and leave it there too long. Lobster bisque looked like tinted wallpaper paste. Even the coffee was bad - weak and lukewarm. Calamari legs were rubbery, greasy, and coated in nasty breading. I foolishly ordered the bratwurst platter. They had a nasty smell and my dogs wouldn't touch them when I got home. A pork sandwich eaten by one of us was passable at best. Shrimp appetizer was rubbery. They have a simple plan; make good comfort food, have cold variety of beers in different sizes, and keep it simple. The dont have waiters or waitresses. You order at the bar, they give you a self standing numbered identification. Once the food is ready, someone will bring it to you. When you are done, someone will clean the table...period. it is a simple formula that works. What makes Jeremy's different from all the other places on Nautical Mile, is that one of the few places that's open all year round. In the summer, they have a large open deck with tables and chairs. Behind the place is a smaller more intimate deck on top of the canal. The homes across the canal are usually quiet and the scene is quite tranquil. The large open deck also has a small bar-like platform to place your beer. Simple!! The beers are cold and the people friendly. What else so you need? read more

Woodcleft Avenue in Freeport is famous for all manner of seafood, but this unpretentious eatery and drinkery has won our hearts. It has become THE seafood place to take visiting Arizonans. First of all, the prices are unusually good. Their lobster roll is about half of anybody else's, and my wife adores their steamers, although she almost always gets the shrimp salad in tortilla shell. There is a good selection of beers, but I always get the store brand on tap. The main attraction for me is their onion rings, which they will always substitute for French fries. They are, quite simply the best on the island. For a good part of the year, you can eat out on the deck and watch the fishing boats come and go on the canal. A little more than a year ago was my last venture into Jeremy's Ale House where I had a meal that tempted me to reach for that fifth Yelp star but it fell just a tad short (oh clam chowder, if only you were a little creamier). Between then and now I've dined at plenty of seafood spots and had my fair share of not-so-good nautical noshes. Beyond that, watching Woodcleft Ave locations close up shop and checking others out on Yelp to constantly find 3 stars and below on most review averages left me realizing just how awesome Jeremy's Ale House really is (creamy chowder or not). Yes, it looks like a run down cottage. Yes, you have to place your order at the bar. Yes, everything about the joint just screams divey and grungy and greasy...and yet, it's just a better meal than most other Nautical Mile restaurants. My revisit and reason for the update came several weeks ago on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I dined with my buddy as we ordered a couple of seafood platters (your choice of three different fried favorites) and an order of fried zucchini sticks. I went with beer battered scallops, calamari, and clam strips. He followed suit on two out of three, but switched the scallops for Cajun shrimp. Seriously man. How does one give you so much tender, tasty seafood for such a great price? A deal with the devil perhaps? Each item was truly, delightfully delicious. I found new favorites in the puffy, flavorful scallops and the one spicy Cajun shrimp I snagged from my buddy. A bed of fries under all this seafood love and some slaw gave way to complementary flavors. Oh and the zucchini? Light and flavorful adding some much-needed vegetable to the lunch (slaw kind of counts). Washing it down with a Jeremy's Ale just rounded out the meal so well. So let's try this again. Yes, Jeremy's doesn't look so hot. But you know what's also a yes? Yes, you can eat outside, right by the water (or near the mile if you choose). Yes, there's plenty of alcohol to be had (beer and mixed drinks in pints or quarts). Yes, you'll pay $14 for a fried seafood platter (and not much more for many items on the menu). Yes, your platter will be of impressive size. Yes, you'll love every morsel of it, especially when you grab a giant container of tarter sauce out of the fridge. Yes people! YES! Overall, don't walk by Jeremy's and turn your nose up at them just because it's not some fancy, napkin-folding seafood spot. Enter in and enjoy a meal you'll actually appreciate on the mile instead of one that'll have you writing a 2 star review soon after. Jeremy's, you rock. You friggin' do. And until my five senses tell me otherwise, you're number one on the mile. Consider me ready to return quicker (much quicker) than a year's time.
