This was a treat! My birthday gift was a wine tasting: Texas Vs The World. We had to reschedule and at the 6 month mark we finally got to get it in! But wait, there's more.... I never knew this place existed. So when we drove up, i was a bit surprised that this has been here for as long as it has, whilst I remained unaware. So they have three business in one. They have a retail shop, as you will see from the photos. Racks on racks of wines. And they're not all high dollar. I think I saw some in the $20's for my frugal fermented fruit freaks (take no offense, I too am one of those). They also have a tasing bar and lounge (Indoor and outdoor). Their second business, is their wine club, which offers storage and a lounge. They have a few different plans you could be on. They also have a number of perks that come with membership that I'm not familiar with just yet. And the third business, which brought us here this evening, the school. They offer classes for enthusiasts like us, and also curriculum for those wishing to take their gratuitous grape glee to the next level. Our instructor for the evening was also a student enrolled in certification courses. In fact, he was due for another exam the following week. I hope he passed! Out course was Texas vs the World. We compared Texas wines in a head to head with wines from Italy, France, Spain, and California. The gal likes all of the non-Texas wines more. I had a Texas wine or two beating the opposition. At the end, the instructor let the class take wines home with them, since they couldn't use any opened bottles afterwards. It was a nice treat. Because we stayed later, and were the last two chatting with our teacher, he let us take 4 half bottles. I was unexpected, and they were very much appreciated. Received the level 1 wine class as a gift. We had Ginny as our instructor and she was fantastic. Knowledgeable, not the slightest bit snobby, funny, and professional yet fun One of the best classes I ever took. I hope to maKe it all the way to a diploma. I tthink she got me to pass the level one certification. I want to go Baal soon and take certification 2 while my knowledge is fresh. This class was great for the wine enthusiast or someoNe like me whhod like to retire and do something with wine. I thought I knew more than average and I didn't. Half the info was new to me but nnot overwhelming I know other places do this class in one day. I think three evenings was perfect. I wanted to do something special for my husband's birthday. I decided that a tasting would be cool, but I wanted it to be something masculine . I searched the Internet for private sommeliers, that would come out to the home , but everything that came up was for wine; I wanted bourbon/whiskey. I stumbled across The Texas Wine School's page and was pleased to see a spirits section! I emailed Walden to see if he knew anyone who could come do a tasting of spirits . Walden got me in contact with Gary Clark , the coolest spirits expert ever! Gary was attentive and communicated well above my expectations. Our guest loved Gary's sense of humor and vast knowledge of the different types of bourbon. We will definitely be patronizing The Texas Wine School , in the future! read more

What a delight it is to take Bryan's class.  I took his California Pinot and Burgundy class last Thursday.  In his ever so organized fashion, he started the class by saying, and I paraphrase, we are going to learn about the wines of these two regions through their terroir.  He picked six excellent wines to showcase that theme, and conveyed in exquisite detail how terroir influences wine, through soil, climate, temperature, sun exposure, elevation, and proximity to marine bodies.  His slides are detailed yet concise and he never just reads them.  I think the most noted style of his classes is not just his knowledge, but his passion for wine, effervescent and infectious.  I have always wanted to take a class like this to understand this mysterious concept of Terroir and Bryan did it beyond my expectations. read more

This was my first official wine tasting course. I really didn't know what to expect. I did know that the cost was competitive to similar courses and the yelp reviews were overly positive, so I made the investment of time and money and I couldn't be more pleased. Our Instructor J.W. was very informative regarding the wines of France, which appropriately was the title of the course. The two hours seemed to fly as we sampled 8 different genres of wine from various regions of France. An exceptional Class that is full of value. I knew this was not going to be an average wine tasting when the instructor, Christian, pulled out a (nearly to scale) map of the Bordeaux region and set up a slide projector. Over the course of 2 hours, we tasted 9 different wines from various regions of the world and learned far more than I ever expected. As a more casual wine consumer, it was very accessible - no wine snobbery here. I look forward to many future classes! read more

Had the most pleasurable experience learning from Trinete. Having had prior knowledge of wine (being in the wine industry) I came into the WSET level 1 course with a good bit of information, but Trinete furthered that information immensley. I recently took the Wines of Bordeaux class and it was absolutely excellent. Where my perspective is coming from: I drink wine casually but this was my first class and my first exposure to a lot of wine terminology. Pros: 1. We got to try out a wide assortment of wines that would otherwise be hard to find and very expensive. 2. Nick, the instructor, did a great job of getting everyone involved, encouraging even wine newbies like myself, keeping the class fun, and making sure all of us got a lot out of the class. There weren't any cons for me. I absolutely intend on taking future classes at the Texas Wine School and would highly recommend the classes to anyone who enjoys a glass of wine and would either like to learn more about what they're drinking or just sample a lot of wines they normally wouldn't get a chance to try. As a note on the cost - given the number and quality of the wines you get to try and the value of having a knowledgable instructor, the class is definitely worth the price. read more

I have been receiving instruction on viticulture, wine making and wine tasting for the last couple of years and James King (as well Christian Varas) and the Texas Wine School are a breath of fresh air. The Texas Wine School combines valuable and detailed information about all things wine in a relaxed setting that leads to productive exchanges which is not common or even easy to pull off. The classes are highly informative and allow the student as well as the casual wine consumer to take away as much as they want. James King's delivery encompasses everything from details and explanations about single vineyards in regions of note or rare wines most of us do not come across to entertaining and informative anecdotes. These classes are great for everyone from service industry types to the average wine consumer looking to make better choices about wine. Unfortunately for me, I have completed almost every class James teaches at the Texas Wine School. Over the past year or so, I have expanded my knowledge about wine (and palate) exponentially, all while having fun and meeting other people who share a common interest wine. I don't think it can get much better than that! I have taken several foundation courses, WSET Level 2 & 3, as well as the French Wine Scholar with Texas Wine School and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The Texas Wine School offers a range of classes appropriate for amateurs to professionals, and the variety of fantastic wines you get to taste in class is hard to beat. Plus, James is a witty and engaging teacher, who does not hesitate to answer questions or provide his valuable personal insight to the material being discussed. I recently rented this venue for my husband's holiday party. We had about 100 guests attend. The venue is very nice and clean and provided us a perfect space for the party. The courtyard is beautiful. The owner, Liz, was extremely helpful in coordinating outside services for our party. She answered my many questions promptly and made herself available to us whenever we needed her. She was so easy to work with. I cannot say enough about how wonderful the space was and how awesome the owner was to work with! Everyone had a great time. read more

I took 3 courses from James last year. I increased my knowledge of wine a great deal. He is very knowledgeable and leads an enjoyable class. You get to learn a lot about wines but the best part is the tasting. You get to taste wines that you might not ever get to taste. And they are a revelation. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and well worth the price. My wine purchases are so much better since the classes. Do not hesitate to try a class if you enjoy or want to learn about wine.
