Dr T is not for sensitive souls, he is different, however, I knew that coming in, and I love him! He explained everything to a detail, took measurements, and I booked my surgery! Worst Decision I have ever made. I'm a Register Nurse and I thought I did my research. I interviewed 5 other plastic surgeons, 4 in the Dallas area. My husband actually questioned me on why I was chose Dr. Thompson, he did not like him at all! He is the most arrogant, rude and unprofessional medical doctor I have ever met, and I worked at a large public teaching hospital for 13 years in Dallas, so I have worked with many different personalities!!! The ONLY reason I chose this doctor was we had just moved to Austin, I had bilateral ruptured implants and needed them removed ASAP. It's been 3 year since my breast lift and implant exchange and my incision scars are still very red, raised, and uncomfortable. I have treated the scarring with laser and steroid injections but no success. I look at my scars every morning with the regret of ever meeting this man. I did go back to Dr. Thompson to show him the incision scarring and he said eventually the scarring will fade, and in the same sentence he said I should think about a Tummy Tuck.... that's his level of compassion- absolutely none! He did not perform any procedures on me so I can not speak for his medical abilities** It has taken me entirely too long to write this review about Dr. Troy Thompson and I feel bad for anyone that has had the displeasure of visiting his office without reading my honest observations of his unprofessionalism and narcissism. I was referred to Dr. Thompson by coworkers, I relied on the referrals because the Doctor does not have a website and does not advertise (which he is very happy to remind you of over and over and over). When I arrived at the office there was no receptionist, it was dark, and it felt like the office was closed. Dr. Thompson's wife greeted me and took me into a private consulting room to go over what my needs were. Unlike her husband, Mrs. Thompson was extremely polite, caring, and listened to me. She put me at ease and I was excited to learn more. My coworkers had warned me that Dr. Troy was "odd" and "a lot to handle", but that was a complete understatement. What happened over the next 2 hours was nothing short of an attack by a man who has no idea how to communicate with anyone. He also attacks other parts of your body that you aren't even there to change. He is sexist and disgusting. read more

This review is for my fellow sisters who have been blessed with extra large breasts. Contrary to the belief of many who say that these female curves are a blessing, they are really not a blessing at all! Thus I started my journey to have these "blessings" reduced to smaller blessings, and ladies - if you are on this journey right now and haven't picked a doctor yet, just stop searching and call Dr. Thompson's office. Trust me (yes, I'm asking you to trust an unknown yelper off the streets....), I already did the legwork. I consulted with quite a few other doctors and frankly I can't even remember most of them now because Dr. Thompson and his staff completely overshadowed them all. First off - I know everyone is looking for pricing. It's natural to do so, we all want the best bang for our hard-earned buck. I can confirm that Dr. Thompson's price was on par or below all the other offices I visited. More importantly - there were additional services included in his fee that were not included elsewhere. And MOST important of all - the expertise and quality care you get with Dr. Thompson is - and pardon me for this cliche - priceless. Dr. Thompson was going to be my last consultation before I pulled the trigger and made a decision. I felt I had enough consultations and information under my belt to make a decision. During my consultation with Dr. Thompson however, I quickly realized that this was not the case. The truth is, every doctor will promise you the sky and tell you all the good and some of the bad. I think they must all have the same script, because they pretty much all give you the same bullet points. Dr. Thompson is different. Some of you may find him a bit intimidating, but please just roll with it. The biggest reason why I absolutely love and respect Dr. Thompson so much was the absence of the aforementioned script! It is incredibly refreshing to find someone who will tell you not just the good, but also dig into the bad and the ugly. A straight shooter who tells you everything you need to hear and some things you don't want to hear but absolutely should take into consideration. I truly appreciated this so much! I have listened and taken all of his advise to heart and his insight has been life changing beyond just the matter of this breast reduction. Professionally speaking, from the way he explained everything, there was no doubt in my mind that this man really knew his job. I was only minutes into my consultation by the time the fabled light bulb went off over my head and I thought to myself "this is it! I'm done looking!" I most definitely had not had an epiphany like this with any other doctor. I don't think anyone here is questioning Dr. Thompson's skill with a scalpel, so I'm just going to confirm that the breast reduction surgery went great. He had previously said this would be a challenging reduction, but thankfully he accepted the challenge. On that note, I want to do a shout out to the hospital where the surgery took place, "Center for Specialty Surgery of Austin" and the staff there, as they were also amazing! The aftercare and follow-up has been amazing. Throughout your healing process, you can communicate with Dr. Thompson's office through their easy-to-use app, and they will respond back within a short time. Dr. Thompson and his staff monitored my healing closely. I have had bi-weekly visits to ensure everything is moving along as it should and thanks to them and their awesome follow-up and advise, everything is looking really nice. I'm still getting used to having these boobs, but they look amazing. It feels really strange saying that about parts of my body that I have pretty much despised since my teens ;) Furthermore - it's Christmas now, and I can properly fit into ugly sweaters and Christmas dresses! The other day it occurred to me that I can probably shop for bikini tops for the first time in my life when summer comes! Not to mention the absence of yeast infections under there, no more strapping on a straight jacket of a sports bra whenever I want to take a walk or work out. Now I can walk in a normal bra and my back isn't killing me afterwards. No more bra strap digging into my shoulders every hour of every day. I didn't realize how much pain I was putting up with until it was gone and now I'm just amazed at how great I feel, it makes me want to cry, I'm so happy :) This has been life changing in many ways. My self confidence has improved immensely. I even eat healthier now. My HEB basket has never looked healthier at checkout ;) Prior to breast reduction, I always felt it never mattered how much weight I lost because all I'd ever still see when I looked in the mirror were these giant boobs so I gave up. I came here upon getting a referral from a friend, I went in for my consult yesterday and I am still in disbelief at how anyone has let this person work on them. Dr. Thompson arrived in the room without even acknowledging myself or my mom who I brought- he instead was rudely talking to his wife who works here as well and brought Us into a small room to talk. Apparently they locked themselves out of the room we were supposed to be in.. He was so unprofessional, he was more focused on telling me about how "American woman are deeply regretful, and regret a majority of their lives." He was telling me that If I "only have one child in my life, I will forever regret it." Mind you I'm 25, I don't even know if that's what I want at all nor do I know why that is being discussed right now when I'm in a consultation for my boobs? He told me I needed implants even though he had not even seen what was under my shirt yet, he had no interest in learning anything about my goals- he only wanted to talk about "regrets." He then started telling me how weird and uncommon it is that someone my age has breasts that need a lift- he said there is no reason for my breasts to be low if I haven't had babies... I'm a 32DDD, of course they aren't as high as they should be- they are natural... he asked if I had ever been fat and thought maybe that's why, I told him I only fluctuate about 10-20 pounds one way or the other. It was like he was manic or under the influence of something- the whole experience was so bizarre. He left the room to go get a camera and I would need to be moved to another room and undress, the second he left the room my mom and I left- I've never felt so uncomfortable at an establishment, which actually says a lot because I typically am not easily made uncomfortable. I can't give a high enough recommendation for Dr. Thompson and his staff. I had been wanting breast augmentation for several years. I even saw him 2 years prior to my surgery for a consultation. I was taken aback as I was told I needed a lift. I was very nervous about that. Two years later I returned to Dr. Thompson. I was referred to Dr. Thompson by another physician, and I thank God that I was because he is truly the best. He's an artist by nature, and with this in mind he is not like the other surgeons you may meet. He's a perfectionist and takes more time to do a surgery than his peers might (which is something you want in a good surgeon). In 2008 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I relied on the referral of my general surgeon and oncologist and made an appointment with Dr. Troy Thompson. At first I was very intimidated by him, I think more because of the stereo type attached to plastic surgery thanks to TV shows, but also because he has a large presense and he can be very serious. After listening to what he was going to do for me during my mastectomy and how this whole reconstruction process worked, my husband and I felt we were in very capable hands. He took into account my fears since this was my very first operation ever and treated not only me, but took my husbands feelings into account as well. My total care from start to finish has been amazing thanks to him and his staff. Our criteria was to have a natural look...not something out of an x rated movie, and I can honestly say that my new look is totally natural. My breasts are proportioned to me and and you would never know I had ever had a mastectomy unless you saw my faint scars. He has taught me patience during this process and he promised me he would take my fears away from having surgery and he has. He is a perfectionist and it show's in his work and in his work ethic. The initial appointment went fine. However, the follow up severely lacked. First of all I was quoted a price much higher than what other customers and friends had told me they paid. I saw several reviews on RealSelf that showed much lower pricing for the same procedure than what I was quoted. I tried calling the office several times and was dismissed each time. Than when I confronted the he doctor about it he started putting words in my mouth saying I was calling them a liar and that we would need to end this conversation. They clearly did not like me bringing up the fact that they were overcharging me and said those reviews where from six years ago. That was not the case as I know someone who just went there last year and did not pay close to what they were trying to charge me. It was just impossible to have a conversation with them. read more

I can't imagine where I'd be today had I not met Dr Thompson, nor do I want to. After my battle with breast cancer twice and having radiation on both sides, this has been my longest fight yet. I have always wanted to be happy and confident with my body and now I feel even more embarrassed and ashamed of my physique. Aside from my emotions and appearance I spent a lot of money to repair a hernia thinking it would be best to have a plastic surgeon do this. The pictures below are of my tummy before the hernia surgery and after. I went in with a smooth belly (no scars) and came out with a scar. I wish I would have never done the surgery. It's been two years and the scar is still present. The only explanation I got was that I was a "weird case". No sorry's. I asked for reimbursement to try and take care of the scar left after surgery.....maybe laser therapy or something and was told no. I don't wish anything negative on this doctor I just wish I would have been reimbursed something and received an apology at the very least. Just make sure to get a second opinion if you are thinking about such a major surgery. read more

I had a reconstruction surgery done by Dr. Thompson in 2016 when I was referred to him by another client. Let this be a WARNING to anyone considering having surgery with him. He is extremely arrogant. Does not listen to your concerns and is full of opinions of how the female body should appear. He is stuck in the patriarchal paradigm that all women should weigh the same weight, wear heels and stay at home serving a man! I was very explicit about the downsizing of my implants and he still selected a larger size. I have been extremely uncomfortable in my body since this surgery! It has been 3 years of hating this experience and sought out another surgeon to address this botched breast job. Not only did my breasts feel extremely heavy and uncomfortable, but I have a horrendous amount of scaring that he immediately minimized my concerns about them. Stating that I must not have followed his post-op care directions. When in fact, they had been so swollen the sutures completely dehisced. Since this experience, I have been in contact with other patients, by sheer chance, that has had similar experiences with him! Take your money and RUN far from this surgeon! My Oncologist and Breast Surgeon helped me break up with breast cancer and Dr. T. made sure I got my revenge body. I've had several procedures with Dr. Thompson now (both reconstructive and cosmetic, involving breasts, torso, butt, and thighs), and I have always been thrilled with my experience and results. After my double mastectomy, chemo, radiation, and some disappointing and discouraging encounters with other Plastic Surgeons, Dr. T.'s enthusiasm and confidence was exactly what I needed. I moved from California where I had a breast augnentation almost 10 years ago that I was never really happy with. I think they looked sort of fake for many reasons spacing etc...and they did not feel very real either. So depending on how you look at it, I was thrilled when my left breast deflated, seriously DEFlATED. Instead of freakig out (ok I did a little of that also) but I looked at it as my oppurtunity to re-do the wrong I had been done so many years ago. I researched , asked friends, also other Dr's and all had the same thing to say "There is nothing to talk about, Dr.Thompson is the only guy for boobs." That was good enough for me. I went and had a very tricky surgery done a lift , augmentation under the muscle and there was so much damaged scar tissue from walking around with a deflated breast, he had his work cut out (pun intended) for him. He was amazing, forget about his lack of sense of humor, just kidding he has a little one. His skills , and confidance which is what you really want and care about is the Best! From my first minute with him I knew he was the one to do the job. I was never disappointed. The only thing I will say that may be looked at as a negative but let me give it another spin. The wait, sometimes I have gone and waited awhile for him, not horrible but longer then time said. Once you meet with him though you understand that he is there with you. He is not thinking I have to get to the next patient, it's lunchtime, oh crap I have to call so and so, he is there for you and with you. ALL YOUR QUESTIONS ARE ANSWERED. I know a lot of reviews talk about how blunt Dr. Thompson can be. However I think that comes with years of experience in the field and confidence in his talent. I saw a number of surgeons when I decided to get a breast reduction. Not only did his results look the best, Dr. T was also the most reasonable with price. We went back and forth for a while on what would be the right size for me. After a lifetime of huge boobs, smaller the better was fine with me. He did ultimately convince me that with my frame, a D cup would be best. I'm so glad I listened to him! My breast look great! I'm proportional. And even in my teens and 20's my breast were never this perfect_ If I ever decide to have any more work done, Dr Thompson will be my first choice. As a side note. Dr. Thompson is amazing at what he does! I recently had breast (silicone)augmentations by him and I'm so thankful I chose him. I had been to a few other consults before him, but once I met him and his personality... I knew he was THE ONE to perform my breast surgery!!! He was super confident and really showed interest in what I WANTED and took the time to look at some pictures I had saved in my phone. He critiqued each one and gave advice and comments on each breast picture I liked or didn't like. He is a perfectionist and will take his time with you, making sure he meets your every need and that you turn out looking like a BOMBSHELL!!! I was a strange and unique case b/c my rib cage is difficult/larger than most. BUT he did his magic in the operating room... I didn't have any trouble with recovery- no pain, no bruising, no weird swelling, no constipation, and I didnt even have to take pain medications after surgery- just Tylenol. I was out and about the town the afternoon of my surgery with no pain (even took his advise and drank a couple beers) :) A lot of my friends who went elsewhere were so jealous and shocked at how well I did after my surgery. I have to thank Dr. Thompson and the Hospital staff who made my surgical experience so easy and beautiful! The incisions are practically all healed and almost unnoticeable now (after 1 month)... The magnitude of physical and emotional trauma caused by Dr. Thompson is too much to efficiently capture in one review, but I will try. I feel it is my responsibility as a woman to let other women know what they are getting into when going under the care of Dr. Thompson. I choose to have a tummy tuck done by Dr. Thompson, after he was referred to me by my umbilical hernia doctor. I was going to have surgery to repair my large hernia, and she suggested if I ever considered a tummy tuck, doing it at the same time as the hernia surgery would be ideal bc I would only be put under once. A tummy tuck wasn't something I thought about before, but I met with Dr. Thompson and decided to have an open mind. Yes, he is blunt. Yes, he is very proud of himself, and proud of the fact that he "does not need to advertise bc he is that good". Yes, he has zero compassion or bed side matter. It raised some red flags, along with other flags like him using a vap pen in his office while he showed me pictures of clients, and him talking about himself like he was a God and he knew best. But at the time I thought maybe this is what I need. Someone who will tell me like it is, despite his "loose some weight and get this surgery or be fat and unattractive". I loved my hernia doctor and I figured if she recommended him, maybe there is something more than I can see. I decided to get the tummy tuck. Working with Dr. Thompson has been the biggest mistake of my life. Surgery day - he showed up late to the hospital, all the nurses, staff and myself were waiting for him. His hair was messy and he was so disheveled, I actually thought to myself is this guy high? Surgery went ok. I am home and the pain is a level 10, which is what I expected. After a few days I notice something was terribly wrong with my belly. It's so swollen (which was expected) but there was an oozing, puss filled line going down my belly vertically. I called Dr. Thompson and he told me to come in. My belly skin was infected from the "six pack abs" Dr. Thompson made for me, despite me telling him I did not want this. It was his "signature style". It took months for the infection to heal, and it left me with a 5 inch vertical dark, thick, keloid scar that should have never been there. When I went back to Dr. Thompson's office for a follow up visit, I told him that I was not happy after how my belly looked, especially how the "six pack abs" looked more like another butt on my belly than a flat belly. He became so defensive, and angry with me. He told me that "he knows what is hot, and all that matters is that other people think I am hot". He went on this almost manic rant for minutes about how in life if you please other people, you come out on top. He used all these odd analogies and it was so weird, upsetting, and minimizing. He never once listened to me, never cared/helped for the actual healing process of my belly after surgery. He is completely fixated on getting you to commit to doing the surgery in the first place, and that is it. He is hands down the most unprofessional and manipulating healthcare provider I have ever worked with. I cancelled the remaining follow up visits with him bc I had so much anxiety every time I went into his office, I literally could not stand to be there one more second. I cried every time I saw him, and this is not typical of me. I tried to file a complaint with the Texas State Medical Board. So here I am 4 years later still trying to heal from the damage this awful man caused. read more

Dr. Thompson is truly amazing. I was contemplating on getting a breast augmentation for 5 years. I had no boobs at all... and he completely changed my life and did a absolutely amazing job. I could not have asked for a better breast augmentation. He is a little intimidating but he knows what is best for you. Best surgeon one could possibly find. He's extremely straight forward and tells it like it is. I have had my breast implants for approximately 3 yrs and they're the best decision I've ever made for my body. They immediately boosted my confidence and still make me feel so much better in clothes than I ever did when flat chested. Dr Thompson was there for me the entire surgery, even held my hand when I woke up panicking from the anesthesia (id never gone under before). For those of you debating whether to get your beasts augmented- do it. You won't regret it. Mine look and feel so natural (they're saline, which are just as good if not better than silicone, and cheaper) and everyone is shocked when I say they aren't natural. Dr. Troy Thompson is AMAZING!!!! I went to a few different doctors before Dr. Thompson, just for comparison. I agree his appearance is somewhat intimidating the first time you meet him. However, I loved that he was so confident in his work and the passion he has for what he does. He was very patient and informative, and didn't seem desperate for my business, like so many others. I have to admit I was a little weary about him choosing the size for my augmentation/lift, but I trusted him and went for it. WOW! I am absolutely in LOVE with my results. My new breasts fit my body PERFECTLY, and I can stop staring at them in the mirror. I was out and about the same day, and felt GREAT! The lift scars are very minimal, and it has only been 4 months! If they are hard to see now, I can only imagine how they'll look at a year! My friends are all asking for his information, as well! They look so real, and perky, and fabulous! I never thought I would have this much of a reaction to my new breasts, but he truly is a master at what he does. I went to another surgeon before Dr. T and all I can say is do not waste your time or money going to another plastic surgeon. Dr. Thompson has changed my life. I wasn't prepared for the giant when he walked in the room but he was amazing! So soft spoken and explained everything for my breast augmentation. I had double lumpectomy (benign) 12yrs ago which left me a lot unshapely. He and his staff answered all my questions. I don't think any doctor will be more in tune with your measurements and how the implants will look in your body. I am so pleased with the way I look. Dr. T is the Master of his profession and I would recommend him to everyone. It was also nice that the intake nurse on the day of my surgery was a patient of Dr. T's and she let me know that I was in great hands. She was so RIGHT! I'm pretty far behind in my reviews. I've had my breast done with Dr. Thompson around 3 years ago now. I came in with AA cup and left with DD cups. He's pretty blunt and very confident but he knows what he is doing. Everyone is shocked once I reveal my breast are not real. He kept me looking very natural. Many women say after surgery their recovery was pretty easy, I had a pretty rough time but I had a hematoma 24 hours after surgery and Dr. Thompson fit me in immediately for surgery that day at no charge but anesthesia which my insurance covered. But that wasn't the end, I also had 2 or 3 cases of splitting stitches that kept re opening my incision site and he was always fast at getting me in and cutting the suture. My scars are not the best, but i had 2 surgeries in 24 hours through that incision and my incisions kept on reopening. I definitely recommend him to everyone I know and plan to use him again in the future when I decide to go a little larger. read more

5 1/2 years later...implants were a BAD decision.  I have had many, many illnesses that I believe can be attributed to the implants.  Yes, they look pretty but I have lost hair, had rash after rash, a lot of breast and back pain, pain on swallowing, stomach issues and an array of other things that I believe are caused by the implants.  I am in a Facebook support group that has over 25,000 other woman who have suffered from BII (Breast Implant Illness). After spending all that money for implants, I had them explanted. The implants were a waste of money and I don't recommend them.  And for personal reasons, I chose a different doctor to explant them. I was told by the new doctor that there was a tremendous amount of scar tissue and other problems that was not of the norm. If you are thinking about implants, research the problems that they cause and you might think twice before getting them. read more

I went so see Dr. Thompson about four months ago to inquire about breast augmentation and abdominoplasty and I was totally impressed. I saw three different surgeons before I saw Dr. Thompson, and I just knew right away he was the right one. He spent more time with me than all three doctors combined! The staff is friendly and I never felt any pressure. I had my augmentation three months ago and the results are amazing. I did not have any pain or bruising. I went out to dinner that same night.
