I stopped here with a few friends for the first time. What stuck out to me the most was the bartender. Two in our group are largely wine and beer drinkers and, while they offer both of those, it's a cocktail joint and the bartender really worked to make them a cocktail they'd enjoy. He asked for flavors they liked and prefaced it by saying he'd keep making them drinks until he found one they liked. They both really enjoyed the first ones he made. Great local watering hole located in the Fifth (or the Third) Ward; I still get them confused. I found this place on Yelp, when a coveted restaurant couldn't take a reservation for one on a busy Saturday night, so I had to order out. They specialize in their gin and whisky selections. The bartenders are well trained craft cocktail maestros, we'll versed in witty dialog and efficient craftsmanship. I'm a tequila drinker, and was mildly disappointed that they had no reposado tequilas at the bar (a simple Milagros reposado would suffice), but was pleasantly surprised at the tequila signature cocktail on the menu, and the No 33 gin cocktail was delicious. They have a great romantic, candlelight atmosphere (perfect for creating the mood before heading home), and have an apothecary of specialty bitters and amaros to keep your pallette dancing in confusion as to what marvelous concoction is making your taste buds smile and slipping in a good Buzz to boot. read more

Easily one of my favorite places in Milwaukee! The drinks are absolutely fantastic, especially their gin drinks. The whole place has such a cozy and cool vibe to it. Love all the knickknacks and artwork on the walls. It can fill up quickly on weekends, but it's worth the wait. Weeknights are super nice because it's very mellow. Love the couch and chairs in the back! The lighting, ambiance, noise level, and overall atmosphere is perfect for just relaxing with a drink (or two!) and some friends. I have been here a few times and each time I walk away loving it more. My first time was over Christmas a few years ago for their pop up, and while it was crowded they had ample seating even in such a small space. Another time I had two great bartenders, one who chatted with us about his favorite gin and even had some great suggestions for non-gin lovers like myself and my friend and what he suggested we both ended up loving. Finally stopped in for a drink and thoroughly enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. It reminded us of Hotel Foster in a way, the dark, mysterious vibe. My old fashioned was quite delicious and I always give extra points for Luxardo cherries, yum! The man's Manhattan had a unique cinnamon-y flavor to it, almost like it was mulled, which he didn't like, but he liked our experience overall. The bartender was friendly and checked on us just the right amount. I especially loved the check presenter at the end, the vintage Hardy Boys book was right up my alley, as an avid Nancy Drew bool collector (which they also had). Top notch whiskey old fashioned. The family hit Tin Widow for a nightcap on a Thursday and the crowd was thin, which allowed 6 of us to monopolize their front window seating. The ambiance is relaxed, dark and feels like pulling on my grandpa's cardigan - just warm enough to want to sink into their couches or a barstool with the warmth of 2-fingers on the rocks. This place is insane. The first thing that gets you is the decor. Trinkets, baubles, pictures, bottles...it's overwhelming in a good way; you know you're not in an average bar. Then the alcohol--literally hundreds of kinds of gin and whisky. All of that is useless if the bartender doesn't know what to do with it. Well let me tell you, Nick was a sorcerer. My son ordered sazerac and Nick didn't skip a beat...and the drink was amazing. I have been around, and I've never had a better Long Island iced tea. If you want a cheap rail drink go elsewhere. I'm a big fan of the Tin Widow after just one visit. Like many other people have mentioned, it feels a little like Boone and Crockett - just more "adult" and less try-hard. The interior is absolutely comfortable - dimly lit, lots of candles and a nice couch and club chairs in the back. It wasn't super crowded when we stopped which was nice - it felt like hanging out at a friends house. Music isn't too loud and the crowd seems to be mellow too - great for a date or just hanging out and chatting. They've got 2 signature cocktails right now - the JBL (gin, basil, stuff) which I really liked and a well made old fashioned, served with a real maraschino cherry. I'd love to see a few more cocktails added to their list because they clearly know what they're doing. Wine by the glass is pretty limited but if you buy a bottle you are very welcome to take anything you don't finish with you. Overall, Tin Widow is a great compliment to all of the new places popping up in the 5th Ward. It's a great spot for a post-dinner drink, or just because. read more

Terrific bar in Walker's Point. Tin Window has a dark, inviting ambiance, which is enhanced by great drinks and a friendly bartender. Sam was very welcoming, and even when the bar got busy, he ably took care of everyone without disturbing his friendly nature. My first review was mis-posted so I won't rehash the good things that Rachel F and Stephen M had to say (I am in 100% agreement) but rather just say a few things about improvements: 1. They now have a small curated cocktail list of classics with a Tin Widow spin. Excellent. 2. The atmosphere and vibe in here gets better every week. It is starting to feel like home and the back room with piano and lounge chairs is inviting and warm. 3. The bartenders are top notch. This is a big deal. Many "cool" bars are like hanging out in a laundry mat full of attractive 20-somethings. This bar still has a staff who will introduce you to the people sitting next to you. This is the way Milwaukee bars always were when I was an 8 year old drinking on South 11th back in 1943 after long shifts at Schlitz. I might have made that bit up, but good bartenders who will welcome a solo patron on a busy night are rare and the staff here are great. 4. Great mix of cheap beers (High Life and PBR with shot specials) as well as a small but solid collection of good bottles and a few local taps. Nice. Stopped in one night with an associate after I told her, my adult drink of choice was a nice aged bourbon or scotch lately. I thought of Tin Window, from being here. My associate asked a lot of questions about how scotches, bourbons, and how each process is done to produce a drink and the complexities of each. We were "over the moon", about how knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly was. We also were impressed with the array of just about any adult beverages one could consume, nice location, and a laid-back diverse crowd. Definitely worth stopping by, can't wait till next time. Kinda upscale but not "snobby" Laid back but romantic! Casual but kind special! I really liked it here and so did my wife! Great place for grown up drinks or not your usual everyday bar drinks. I had a Negroni here also and let me tell you it was delicious and awesome! I love these drinks so much! The decor inside is very eclectic but cool! There is a sofa in the back which is nice. The only weird thing is the bathroom situation! You share the bathroom with the whole building, like people that live in the building and the salon next door. Weird but ok. I moved to Walkers Point recently from Logan Square, Chicago. I am so surprised at how much this neighborhood has on par with what I loved and am used to. One of the reasons I moved to Milwaukee was to be close to my sister and future brother in law, and we are having so much fun exploring and enjoying Milwaukee, especially Walkers Point, where I live, and Bay View, where they live. My sister was especially excited to check out Tin Widow, as she knows that I am looking for that cocktail scene that I was missing from Logan Square. The bar is super awesome, with an eclectic feel, and a whiskey selection that blows the mind! The cocktail selection was very limited, but the idea is that there are additives to the really great liquor available. Cool concept. They also have a list of Aquavit which is super awesome for us Norwegians! Love it. I approached the bar and hummed and hawed a bit about whether to have an Aquavit or what's good, asked the bartenders name, as you would do at any bar that is about high end booze and I assume mixology. The bartender, Melissa, who looked like she just stepped out of bed and was desperately waiting for her shift to end, so she could watch the Packers game tomorrow, offered no help, and acted annoyed that I was acting for advice. Firstly, if you have a bar of this type, I would expect that your staff would be smartly dressed, and her black hoody and unkempt hair was ridiculous. If she was an amazing mixologist, it would be taken as quirk, but to no avail. After no advice, I looked at the bourbon list and ordered a Rowan's Creek (my go to) old fashioned. She asked (horrifically for a cocktail bar, even if it is in Milwaukee) if I wanted it "Wisconsin style". Now, for god sakes, if I ordered a top shelf bourbon, do you really think I would like it "Wisconsin style" which is an abomination in the first place? She sourly made my drink, and gave me the driest, saddest, old fashioned ever, with a tiny little pre cut piece of orange rind. That orange rind should have been cut, and squeezed to give the oil over the final product, but I digress... I don't care about the "bourbon with an orange piece" and not an old fashioned that I got, it's the fact that the bartender was rude as hell, over her head, and could not even put a smile on her face. I always hate Yelp reviews that give one star because of a bad employee, and I have heard that this place is usually awesome, but I had a shitty drink, and a bartender that should be fired as a dental receptionist, so I give Melissa 1 star, the bar 4 stars and the drink 2 stars, because, it was really good bourbon, so, yeah, really good bourbon... I guess that's a 3, but I'lll call it a 2 and come back and revise :) read more

Took a 3 minute Uber from the Hilton with my sister when we were in town for a night. We were looking for someplace chill, not too loud so we could have a relaxed chat. Found exactly what we were looking for in The Tin Window. I was very impressed with the gin selection and there were pages and pages of other top shelf liquors to choose from as well. Even though I love gin, I for some reason went with one of the signature cocktails - the Widow Old Fashioned which although this was Wisconsin, comes with bourbon. I don't even like bourbon normally but this drink was damn good. Dark, chill atmosphere but not so dark you can't see your partner's face or read the menu. The bartender was perfectly attentive and helpful and basically left us to our chat which is what we were after. Would definitely go back if I had the opportunity. read more

I know, don't freak out about the rating. Let me explain. This was our first visit during the Miracle holiday popup. Based on photos and write ups, I thought this would be a good spot to visit for a group on a Friday night out on the town. Apparently so did everyone else in Milwaukee. We weren't expecting there to be a wait to enter the bar but due to the popularity and a random social network event the bar was at capacity when we arrived. Now this wasn't necessarily a problem, we didn't mind waiting. The group of strangers gathered in the vestibule was congenial and understanding. They were also serving a hot beverage to warm everybody up. While we waited we reviewed the menu and excitedly waited to enter. Upon entry the space is wonderfully decorated, such a festive place to share drinks with your loved ones. We ordered a round of the Miracle cocktails, Run Run Rudolph, Bad Santa (hot), Snowball Old Fashioned, and Jingle Balls Nog. Unfortunately everyone kind of hated their drinks. We all sampled each others and pretty much uniformally agreed they weren't the best. The flavors were just not what we expected and some were disappointed by the sizes of the beverages. I know this isn't a representation of the bar overall because this is a packaged event that benefits charity. AND I would still recommend the event to people to check out and try because the proceeds go to a good cause. But the drinks weren't what we expected. So I'm giving it an A-Ok! Overall the vibe here is warm and inviting. It seems like a comfortable spot to enjoy some cocktails. We all agreed we would return to Tin Widow some other time for cocktails. Wonderful good time drink-having! This bar boasts a classy feel, while a subtle mist of the ghosts of bar-goers-past lingers around you. There have been many drinking establishments in this spot, and I think they all collectively contribute to the vibe. I had a couple of old fashioneds on my visit here, expertly made and served with booze-soaked cherries of some kind, I'm not sure. Super classy cocktail lounge on trendy 2nd street in Milwaukee. Went here to enjoy a drink with the Mrs. on a recent (and very mild weather night) trip to the city. The ambiance of music, lighting and wonderful staff made this a very special visit. Very cozy, very romantic-ish. My option for the evening was the house-version of the old fashioned - not my favorite of the classic drink of drinks, but still very good. This place is cute, cute, cute! Loved all the Christmas decorations (not sure if this is a year round thing?). Everything was adorable from the pretend presents in the window, to the reindeer in my drinking glass and the names of the drinks, which were delicious, $12. My recommendation is the bathroom be clearly marked, ie you will need to use a door marked "south pole" to enter into a hallway, proceed down the hallway, and viola! Restroom!. I should forewarn-the locks on the door are not stable. Although utilized, another patron opened the door while I was "using it." Most people knock, but unfortunately this was not the case. In hind sight, i would have implemented the steel trash can as a barrier to ensure my privacy. Other than that, the Tin Roof is charming. read more

Tin Widow is pretty legit. First, its smack dab in the middle of a very cool neighborhood with good, authentic, original vibes that are unique to this Walker's Point neighborhood. This is awesome for a girl who unfortunately spends too much time on Brady St. I went here most recently to celebrate a friend's dirty thirty and therefor definitely need to make a trip back when I can take in more of my surroundings/ drink orders. But maybe the number one thing I look for when choosing a bar or restaurant is the vibe and the ability to have good conversations in that particular vibe and this place totally nails it. It has a vintage throw back, but isn't obnoxiously hipster--just has lots of character. Cool couch area in the back to lounge and chatski. The Tin Widow is the bees knees. I have stopped here a few times now and each time I am so pleased. I love gin and trying new drinks and each time the bartender has recommended something to me based on what I say I like. The most recent time I had a gin gimlet and it was delicious. They have so many options, the bartenders are super friendly to banter with. And the environment is awesome. Its cozy and has the wonderful eclectic chill vibes that Walker Point seems to maintain. Now that it has a name and a face, the Widow is a cozy sorta place with an excess of familiar faces. Pricing is very kind, and the staff is just as friendly as the previous unnamed incarnation. There's a little bit of house party feel due to the close proximity you'll have to everyone else crammed in, but there aren't any popped-collar types here to fu@k with your flow. Thankfully. Came to the Tin Widow recently to grab a quick drink with a friend. First things, first, this place does not serve food, so if you're looking for that, you will be disappointed. With that caveat out of the way, The Tin Widow is an absolutely fantastic cocktail bar/lounge. The ambiance is elegant and classy, without being pretentious. The bartenders are always knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere is on the more intimate side. And, most importantly, the drinks are excellent. The Tin Widow is primarily a gin bar, boasting over 100+ gins for you to try. They'll make any gin cocktail you want, just tell them how you're feeling. The selection can be overwhelming if you don't know what to look for, but the bartenders can help you. If you don't know what kind of cocktail you like, there are a few (only ~3-4) preselected ones on the menu. They also have a great selection of whiskeys and other liquors, so you don't have to stick to gin if it's not your thing. The only bit of negative feedback I would give is that the gin menu is overwhelming, and it would be nice to have a few more suggested cocktails (with selected gins) on the menu, for when someone doesn't want to put too much thought and effort into selecting a drink, and would rather trust the experts. All said, this is a memorable cocktail bar, and one you should absolutely check out at your next opportunity, even if gin isn't quite your thing. read more

This is by far my favorite Milwaukee bar. Located in Walker's Point just down the road from Steny's, I'd definitely consider it a hidden gem! My friends and I stumbled upon the Tin Widow by chance last year during March Madness. We had actually been watching the games at Steny's in the patio because it was way too crowded inside and it got too cold so we decided to walk down the street until we found a bar with a tv that wasn't packed. Enter the Tin Widow which had just opened and was empty and had 2 large tv's showing the game! We were sold. The drinks are always delicious, the bartenders are always friendly, and the atmosphere is always cozy! This is the first place I ever had an Old Fashioned and they set the bar high! So high in fact that a year and countless Old Fashioneds later and theirs is still one of my favorite! If you're in Walker's Point this is definitely a place you should experience for yourself! read more
