We broke down just outside of DeFuniak Springs and had to have our vehicle towed. Since we were…read moresuddenly without transportation, we booked a room at the Holiday Inn and were trying to figure out how we were going to get something to eat. We decided to order from Sweet Southern Comfort, but because their online ordering and delivery system was still fairly new, we ran into a few issues getting the order placed. I ended up calling the restaurant several times, and every single time, Garrett answered the phone. He was incredibly patient and helpful. He never sounded frustrated or acted like we were bothering him. Instead, he calmly worked through everything with me until we finally got our order placed. By that point, we were extremely relieved because it had been several hours since we had eaten, and we were definitely ready for some good food! Shortly after placing the order, we received a text with a link that took us to Uber's tracking system. It showed our food being prepared, then showed that a driver had picked it up. About 20 minutes later, however, the order suddenly showed as CANCELLED. We couldn't believe it. I want to make it very clear that this was NOT an issue with Sweet Southern Comfort. The restaurant had prepared our food and handed it over to the Uber driver. The problem occurred after the driver picked it up. At this point, I called the restaurant yet again, and Garrett answered. He confirmed that the driver had picked up our food about 20 minutes earlier, exactly as the tracking information had shown. He was clearly upset that this had happened and kept apologizing to us, even though none of it was his fault. What happened next is the reason I felt this review needed to be written. Garrett didn't simply apologize and tell us to contact Uber. He personally had our entire order made AGAIN and then got in his own vehicle and drove it to our hotel himself. And somehow, he went even further than that. While he was on his way, Garrett actually called us and asked if there was anything we needed him to pick up from the store since he knew we were stranded at the hotel without a vehicle. That kind of customer service is almost unheard of anymore. Garrett took a situation that could have ended with a very frustrated and hungry family and completely turned it around. He treated us like neighbors instead of customers. He had absolutely no obligation to remake our food, personally deliver it, or offer to stop at the store for us, but he did all of those things simply because he wanted to make sure we were taken care of. If it hadn't been for Garrett going so far above and beyond, we probably would have ended up making dinner out of whatever snacks we could find in the hotel lobby. Instead, we were able to sit down to a full meal -- and the food was absolutely PHENOMENAL! If you order from Sweet Southern Comfort, I highly recommend the Burnt Ends and the Bayou Fettuccine. Both were fantastic! Great food is always worth recommending, but when you combine great food with someone like Garrett who genuinely cares about his customers, that makes a restaurant memorable. Thank you, Garrett, for taking such good care of us on what had already been a very long and stressful day. Sweet Southern Comfort absolutely earned our business, and if we are ever back in DeFuniak Springs, we will definitely be eating there again!

My husband ordered a fish Po' Boy and I got the smoked tuna dip from the appetizer menu. Both meals were delicious. The catfish was perfectly cooked, veggies were fresh and the bread was on point. The tuna dip had just enough Cajun seasoning and the dipping bread was nice and warm. Staff is friendly and helpful and the dining room and restrooms are clean and nicely decorated.

The hosted was friendly and we were seated immediately for a 5 p.m. reservation. The menu was similar to what was posted on the website, plus the daily specials that were explained to reflect what is fresh and mostly locally sourced. I chose the cesar salad and lasagna. The salad was fresh, but not notable - I'd rate as average. On the other hand, the lasagna was the best I've ever had and the flavor was incredible with a perfect ratio of sauce, pasta, meat and cheese. It was served in a small cast iron skillet that seem to enhance the flavor. The service we received from Krystal was outstanding. Definitely ready for a return visit.

Shrimp and grits were very flavorful, quite good, and the beer was cold just like it should be. My husband loved his iced tea and dinner. His dinner disappeared so fast I don't remember what he ordered, it was that good. The real standout here was the service. I wish I'd gotten her name so I could call her out publicly - we asked to be seated in the bar area to be in the window and to be warm in the sun, and that was just perfect. Our server was taking care of all the tables on the bar side of the restaurant. She was seating people. She also was re-setting tables and manning the bar somehow. Brilliantly, professionally, and cheerfully. She was probably doing even more behind the scenes, like a superwoman.
