M&W Smokehouse BBQ is a great dining option in the small Florida panhandle town of Bonifay. It is not far off of Interstate 10 and off on a sidestreet. If you aren't looking for M&W Smokehouse BBQ, you probably won't stumble across it. Walking in, M&W Smokehouse BBQ has a no-frills type vibe that just screams small-town restaurant. There is a sign that says seat yourself and since the place was pretty crowded (especially considering it was a Thursday). My server was absolutely fantastic. So friendly and helpful and checked on me enough. I went with the two meat dinner (chicken and pulled pork). For my sides, I went with the baked beans and a loaded baked potato. My food came out pretty fast and they brought out their homemade ranch dressing (which was very good). The meal as a whole was very good and the price was very good. I would definitely recommend M&W Smokehouse BBQ. I toyed between four and five stars, but went with five because of the great service. read more

We stopped at Outback Springs RV Resort for an overnight stay in the RV while traveling across Florida - we arrived at the RV Park just in time to experience a torrential downpour and had no interest in disconnecting our Toad to grab an early dinner so finding M&W Bbq on the adjacent property was exactly what we were looking for and very much within walking distance in between the rain showers. This is a beautiful restaurant and the staff here is nothing less than amazing. We seated ourselves and was greeted by our server after only a minute or two - the selections were good and the prices were very very reasonable. After reviewing our option our drinks arrived and we were ready to order. Before getting to the food I just want to thank the cashier for putting together a makeshift poncho for our trip back across the pack to our RV. Barbecued Chicken - We both ordered this as part of the two meat plate, we both thought the chicken was moist, smoky and basted with a light slightly sweet bbq sauce I'd definitely do this again. Smoked St. Louis Ribs - I love good ribs and these were pretty tasty, meaty and had a good bark they also had a slight coating of the came bbq sauce. Sliced Pork - Honestly neither of us was a fan of this, the portions was nice and it was plenty lean but didn't taste fresh from the pit I'm thinking this was done ahead of time and served until it's gone. Fried Okra - Served with their signature buttermilk ranch dressing this was definitely a hit I'd say a must have if your an okra fan. Crinkle Fries - yes they were crinkle fries Coleslaw - There are so many versions so this one stood up well a little sweet for my taste but chilled and refreshing most people will love it I'm sure. Brunswick Stew - I tasted a few bites but unfortunately it was served cold and there was plenty of food in front of me so I didn't request a reheat. Well that's the lay of the land, the RVers next door and locals seem to like this place. On our way to the USS Alabama for 7/4 weekend from Jax FL when we found ourselves in this restaurant in a small town for a bathroom break and late lunch. What a gem!!!! Been in this country for 37 years but never ever have anything like this at a BBQ restaurant - pork rinds. Yeah, sure, I've had pork rinds in a bag at a supermarket that's salty and hard to chew on. This one is freshly made, marinated to taste and best of all-super crunchy and light. It literally melts in my mouth the second I bite it. I give it 5 stars cuz of excellent customer service on top of second to none pork rinds and St. Luis style ribs. All the ladies that came to the table to take our order and deliver the goods are super friendly and helpful. One lady explained to me pork rinds like these are Southern delicacy. Go figure!!!! We ate lunch here today for the first time and it was great. The restaurant is very roomy and comfortable. The staff is friendly and efficient and the food was wonderful. My husband had the 3 slider special that consisted of a cheeseburger slider, a pulled pork slider and a chicken bacon ranch slider along with onion rings. He said all of the sliders were delicious and both of us loved the onion rings. I had the brisket sandwich with collard greens and I was so happy with both of them. The brisket was tender, juicy and had just the right amount of smoke flavor. The greens were tender and tasty as well. We are so glad that we had lunch here and we will be back again. I do not understand the ratings. Brisket was very dry and no smoke flavor to it. Fried pickles were greasy and so salt brined that you couldn't taste the pickles and tasted like old grease (like burnt okra). Chicken salad was WARM & very soupy with mayo, kinda worried about that one. Service was barely ok, wasn't offered any bbq sauce, waited for refills, dropped ticket before we were half way through the meal. I got the Mac Attack sandwich but substituted for pulled chicken instead of pulled pork. It is served with a piece of buttery perfectly toasted bread topped with Mac and cheese and pulled pork (chicken). There are different BBQ sauce options to put on top. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish. I was driving from Pensacola to Orlando and decided to stop at this restaurant due to generally good reviews on Google and Yelp. I called in the order ahead of time and the staff was very friendly. The restaurant is very conveniently located off I-10, and was easy to find with my navigation. I picked up my food got in my car and ate later. I was overall disappointed to realize that I was charged significantly more than the online menu indicated (which is listed on the restaurant's Facebook page). The pork was good, the chicken was better. The fries were over cooked and stale, and the coleslaw had absolutely no tang and tasted strictly of mayo. I was only given one container of bbq sauce for the whole meal, and a spork--which is maybe the worst part! Trying to eat bbq meat with a spork lol. I can't believe it took me this long to hear about a BBQ joint, as much as I travel the Florida Panhandle. Plus, this joint had a 5 star rating on Yelp! Man, I hate to spoil it but I give what I feel like is earned on my reviews. M&W is located on Hwy 90 and shares the building with a grocery store. It started well with my sweet and refreshing glass of sweet tea. I chose the 3 meat plate with ribs, pulled pork, brisket, baked beans, and mac and cheese. Out of the 3 meats, I liked the ribs the best. They were easy to chew and had a glaze that seemed to be made of their sweet BBQ sauce. The pulled pork was not bad too. It was also easy to chew but seemed like it was missing something. But the brisket was a disaster. It was some of the toughest brisket I have ever had and was mostly inedible. I would say my sides were better than my entrees. The beans were homemade and had a smoky taste to them. The Mac and cheese was also homemade and cheesy. There are 3 sauces - sweet, hot, and mustard. I liked the mustard sauce the best. The sweet is interesting. It tastes like it is made with maple syrup. The waitress wouldn't confirm that but if it isnt, it must be molasses. Either way, it tasted like it went better with pancakes than BBQ in my opinion. The hot was the hot version of the sauce. There seems to be some good choices for craft burgers. I would be be willing to give M&W another try for that reason. Overall, it was pretty all right. But the inedible brisket makes me lean toward a 3 star instead of a 4. read more

Every time I'm passing by the highway, this bbq restaurant has become a detour on the trip regardless the direction traveling.
