Mom-and-pop BBQ joint right on Eglin Pkwy with exactly the vibe you'd expect from the outside. We ordered brisket, ribs and brisket queso, plus a lineup of sides: mac & cheese, baked beans, potato salad, fried okra and smoked cabbage. Heads up though. The mac & cheese has a little kick from what looks like pepper jack cheese, so if spice isn't your thing, proceed with caution. Everything was packed with flavor and absolutely worth ordering again. Portions were good -- perfect for one person, or for sharing if you're feeling generous and not that hungry. Service was good, just a little . . . memorable. Ordering felt slightly awkward when the guy helping us dropped some casual profanity while ringing us up. That said, he was genuinely kind, so it balanced out. It's a quick-serve setup, and we had our food in under 10 minutes, which is always a win. The menu is handwritten on whiteboards above the register. We don't drink, but apparently there's free beer in coolers by the register, which feels like a bold and generous choice. May be a touch pricey if you're not drinking, but what isn't these days? The place was clean and smelled like BBQ. Exactly what you want when you walk into this kind of establishment. LEGIT TEXAS Brisket and Burnt ends! The "Bacon ends" were phenomenal! Ribs were pull off tender, with a well balanced rub, and Smoked exceptionally well. Make sure to try their in house sauce! Legit bbq! Got the 3 meat and 2 sides plate. Ribs, burnt ends, and brisket. Cajun mac and smoked cabbage. The lady at the cash register was really nice and gave great suggestions! We got our brisket moist. So much smoky meaty goodness. Clean bright atmosphere. We will be back for sure!! read more

Hands down the best barbecue restaurant in the Fort Walton/Navarre/Pensacola area! The staff is friendly which sadly is a rarity in this area. They all act as if they want you to come back; that they care about having your business. The food is awesome (based on my personal opinion and those of my friends who are typically with me)! It was December 26, 2025 and I was just leaving work a few minutes after 7:00 pm and I was just talking to my co-worker about sausage. So, as I left to go home I began to think about what to eat. I decided on Underground Texas BBQ as it was just down the street and I was feening for some sausage. This would be my second stop at this restaurant. As I walked in, the owner Duane immediately greeted me and informed me that they had just closed for the evening. He was very apologetic. I was shocked but we kept up the repartee for a few minutes more until out of the blue, the owner ordered the young man behind the counter to grab a rack of ribs, sausage and about 4 different sides, packaged it all up and said it was complimentary for the inconvenience. I have eaten some really good Texas barbecue before, I would not describe theirs as being average. Portions were small, quite frankly very little smoked taste nor seasoning. Barbecue slaw was great, pinto beans are OK. Sausage was good, pulled pork was OK. Brisket was cooked. Good nice and moist. Just a little bland for my taste.
