Family beach trip included a dinner at Evie Mae's and the Texans/barbecue eaters approved! Came across Evie Mae's while browsing the Michelin website and I'm glad I did. In an easy-to-get-to location off of 98, Evie Mae's sets the tone from the front door and does it right. The casual vibe leads you to a main counter area where you can browse unique glass bottles sodas, homemade desserts, the menu on the wall and order at the register. The slide over to another counter and pick up your tray of fresh and delicious bbq and sides. Especially loved the self-serve counter featuring their homemade sauces, pickles, peppers, white bread and other bbq accoutrements. Here's what we found: Brisket, ribs and pulled pork - Texan approved Turkey - deemed delicious by this Mississippian Tastiest sides were the baked potato casserole, pinto beans and potato salad. The cashier made a snide comment about us wearing hoodies (it was raining) "are you all cold or something?" I think the cost for the food was pricy, The baked beans are spicy And it puts you on the spot to tip $9 (15%) to pick up your own food, seat yourself, fill your own drinks, and clean up after yourself. I would have been a millionaire if it was suggested to tip back in the day when I worked retail and people would spend $100+ where I worked. They do not have a kids menu and seemed put off when I asked if I could buy an extra bun. one of the best bbq places in the area! came in towards the end of the evening and they unfortunately ran out of chicken which we were looking forward for. we settled for ribs and sausage instead. the sausage was so juicy and well seasoned. it had that satisfying snap to it as well. rubs were tender and a great smoke flavor. the sauces they had were sweet bbq, bama white sauce, and a mustard bbq. i really liked the sweet and bama sauce, but their bama sauce uses some horse radish. the sides were good but i was surprised they didn't have mac and cheese. maybe they ran out for the day since we did come later in the evening. overall, great bbq joint and it won't disappoint. read more

7/15/2026 my brother and I went in at 6:20PM after we called and they said they don't do takeout orders so we drove over. The lady at the register told us they were out of brisket, chicken, and family meals. Pretty much exactly what we were looking for..... It wasn't all bad because it gave us a reason to find another spot. We went to 98 barbecue right down the road and it was incredible and cheaper than Mae's. read more

Three stars at best. This was probably one of the only times the Michelin Guide has ever let me down. The food was good great it was just bland. Nothing had that over the top flavor that keeps bringing you back in. Rule of thumb if a bbq place doesn't have a line before they open and sell out by 2 pm it's probably not that great. read more

I cannot recommend the barbecue in this restaurant enough. It reminded me of many of the authentic Texas barbecue joints that I toured many years ago. Very friendly service, fresh condiments, wide variety of barbecue products. Our favorites were the pulled pork, brisket and turkey. The cornbread was excellent and the dessert were very good as well. The not so good: the creamed corn tasted frozen, like it had that weird texture, and was just kind of blah. The jalepeno cornbread was awful. We ordered the brisket, and sausage (1 green Chile cheese, 1 German), potato salad, collards and a slice of key lime pie (gluten free!) to go, brought it home to eat and watch the sunset. All were outstanding! Brisket was tender and flavorful, the green chile sausage was outrageous. Both sides were awesome, my wife doesn't like collards and she ate these and enjoyed them.
