Tea is perfect. The staff was accommodating, and the decor style well represents a proper BBQ shack. But moisture is much needed in the pork and ribs. Thinly sliced juicy beef brisket. Wonderful ribs. Largest potatoes I've ever seen- get meat on them. We fed 8 people for 125$ which I thought was very reasonable. Potato salad is the mustard kind. Baked beans nice and sweet Cole slaw diced to perfection. And the Mac n cheese was perfectly cheesy. We had stopped somewhere else on our travels from WI to FL. And the last place was dry and disappointing and 50$ more. Will definitely look forward to making this an annual stop on our vacation! Very pleasant staff and food was ready very quickly! We didn't know if we would like this tiny hidden bbq joint. My husband is VERY picky! He had one bite of the brisket and he said " OMG... That's as good as mine! That is a major compliment. Now we go there regularly. The covered baked potatoes are AMAZING! It's worth the hunt for it!! read more

On the way down Highway 231 toward Panama City in the small town of Alford, you have seen the yellow country store as Barfield's. There is an accompaniment now for a hole in the wall BBQ joint known as Michael D's. The owner is from the Chattanooga area and brings a Tennessee flair to his BBQ. His meat is all Hickory smoked and everything is made on site. He does not offer 2 meat plates but he allowed me to sample pork and brisket. I went with the pork. After I told him I love BBQ and my personable BBQ, he gave me a little more in my portion-size. The pork was tender and had a real smoky flavor to it. The potato salad is a mustard base but had a little something extra added to it to give some acidic bite. The beans were really sweet. They had pulled pork, pimentos or bell pepper, and I am guessing brown sugar added to them. There are 4 sauces - mild, tangy tomato; a hotter tomato; mustard; and a white that has a sweet taste. I think I liked the white the best then the mustard. I didn't find much difference between the hot and regular. All sauces are homemade by the owner. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! If you have a hankering for BBQ on 231, give Michael D's a try. read more

Stopped in here on the way home from Florida. The service was good, the portions were huge. My fiancé got the potato with pork and it had to of been like 1/4 of a pork butt on her potato and I got the brisket plate and it was a decent portion as well. All the sauces we tried where really good. Mac and cheese collard greens and potato salad were really good they needed a little salt and pepper but after that delicious. My only complaint would be the brisket was really dry, and so was the pork butt, the pork butt was also a little scorched. I'm familiar with bark so I know what bark taste like it was bitter from direct flame probably hitting it. Looked like the guy cooking was checking on the smoker in between tickets. read more

Growing up in the south I love nothing more than a little barbecue joint that looks like nothing but offers great food. This is that kind of place. Stopped by here on the way to Destin. The kid behind the counter was very nice and helpful. He let me sample some of the homemade BBQ Sauces, which were very good. We ordered the pork sandwich and the Rib plate. The rib plate was 3 ribs with two sides (Mac and cheese, collards). The ribs were very dry and had a decent smoke flavor. The sides were average. What an awesome gem! We drive to PCB at least 5 times a year and have always passed this place by. WHY DID WE DO THAT? I'm telling you, it was the best BBQ I've had. We had ribs, and three BBQ sandwiches. We also had beans and Cole slaw.. The workers so kind and even gave us a little chicken pieces for our dog. We will definitely be back! I have to say we were a bit skeptical in the beginning. Being located beside the country store w bonsai trees, etc, we thought,"oh, it's going to be tourist bbq!" We were so WRONG! This is some of the best BBQ we've ever had, and that is saying something. Lol! We love BBQ n eat it everywhere we travel. Meat was tender n flavorful and the pulled pork sandwich was very generous with the meat. The sandwich was overflowing! Just don't think you can get it to go n eat while you drive. Note the prices are from 50 cents to $2 more per item than the photos shown with the profile, but still very reasonable. $12 for a plate of delicious pulled pork with two hefty sides and a roll...$14 for beef brisket. Yum! You can tell the meat is smoked there--it has a great smoked flavor and you can smell it when you walk in. The sides we tried were all pretty tasty too. Best collards I have had--nice salt and savory flavor. Potato salad had too much mustard for my taste, but otherwise well executed. Cole slaw is the finely minced type with a subtly sweet dressing. Mac and cheese is a classic, creamy dish. Well worth a try. They do take credit cards if you are wondering. read more
