Treme Hotel Parking lot monitored 24x7 by video cameras
    Raj G.

I was accompanying my wife who was attending a conference in New Orleans with lodging provided at the Sheraton. We decided to go a day earlier on a Friday to have some time to see New Orleans together on Saturday. Since we did not want to pay $300 for sleeping 8 hours, we looked at more economical alternatives. We came across the Treme Hotel on Tripadvisor as it had consistently high ratings by customers. However, after seeing the pictures and surrounding neighborhood, we initially decided against it. It seemed like a very very old area with dilapidated homes on Google maps. But after hours of searching for a hotel less than $200 with good reviews, we gave up and booked this place with trepidation. It was 9.30 PM when we arrived straight from the Louis Armstrong airport in New Orleans. The lady - Lynn at the front desk was surprisingly very helpful. Our original booking had two double beds but she was able to find us a different room with a single King bed. Lynn also walked us through their breakfast room and explained what they offered every morning which was basic - Juice, Yogurt, Bagels, Donuts etc. The room was neat and clean with no frills. The bed was comfortable and we had a good night's sleep. The room also included a mini refrigerator, microwave and a TV. Parking is charged at $10 per day which we thought was very reasonable for New Orleans. As a comparison, the Sheraton charges $45 per day plus tips to the valet. Rather than pay $50 at the Sheraton, we requested the Treme hotel if we could park our car overnight and they had absolutely no issues even though we were no longer staying there! We parked our car there for 2 nights for $20 - at one-fifth the cost! The only catch was getting to and from the Sheraton to pick up and drop the car - we used Uber - $5 per trip. The hotel has video cameras across their parking lot which is monitored 24 X 7 by the receptionist. As a disclaimer, they do have a sign on their gate saying they are not responsible for any damage to the vehicle. This is a small risk if you already have auto insurance of your own. Was saving $80 worth it for 2 nights ? You make the call. But it worked out for us. If you are on a budget looking for a basic room (less than $100) close to downtown and Canal street, then don't waste your time searching further, just book this hotel. I would highly recommend it.

This place far exceeded my expectations. All the reviews that mention the friendly and accommodating staff are spot on....but there isn't a way to accurately describe how friendly everyone is! The grounds, room and building were clean and tidy. Centrally located. $9 cab ride to and from Bourbon. $6-7 Uber. Don't recommend walking to and from the French Quarter as it is a deceptively long walk. The breakfast each morning is small, but filling. Eggs, sausage, fresh baked biscuits, bagels, OJ, milk, yogurt, cereal... I will stay here every time I come to NOLA in the future!

There's a mold problem at this hotel.

This is a great hotel with a great location, friendly staff, etc. but they have a mold problem. If you have asthma from mold, expect to use your inhaler here. We found some on a pillow case too.

My husband and I planned a last minute trip to NOLA for spring break and of course everything was booked! After much searching it was between this place and a motel 6, I opted for the Treme even thought I've never stayed in a non chain hotel. I was NOT disappointed! The staff were so nice and friendly showing us the property and recommending tours. The place had a community kitchen, gym, and laundromat, great if you wanna save a few bucks! The room was simple but nice and clean, perfect for our getaway. The area may look a little rough on the outside but I never felt unsafe so do not let it fool you! Very easy access and cheap rides by uber to and from the French Quarter. I'll definitely come back and would recommend it to anyone

One of my favorite moments was chatting with a gentleman in the lobby who helped with our luggage. We mentioned we were visiting from Pennsylvania, and he shared that his very first job was in Pennsylvania and actually knew our area. It was one of those authentic conversations that makes you feel more like a guest than just another room number. Our room in the older section was spacious, comfortable, and beautifully maintained. Housekeeping and the nightly turndown service were exceptional. We also spent plenty of time at the pool, where the staff and bartender were fantastic. The drinks were great, the food hit the spot, and the Fourth of July pop-up DJ made for a really fun afternoon. The service was so personal that one of the bartenders recognized us by name when we ran into her on the street a few days later. The only miss during our stay was the famous Carousel Bar. We never managed to get seats at the actual carousel during our four nights--which is understandable given how popular it is and being the 4th of July weekend. We did sit just behind it. Unfortunately, the service there was noticeably unfriendly and felt completely out of step with the incredible hospitality we experienced everywhere else in the hotel. That one experience wasn't enough to overshadow an otherwise outstanding stay. Between the beautiful historic décor, unbeatable French Quarter location, easy access to everything, and a staff that truly cares about its guests, Hotel Monteleone absolutely lived up to the hype. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

I don't know why that took out the water, but it did. Noights, elevators, or toilets from 10 pm to 6 am. No emergency plans- people sleeping in the lobby, all restrooms locked, no one with information, no help for those with medical needs, no information and not even a compassionate voice at the front desk. Where was the manager? My husband's CPAP requires electricity. Our phones died. It was a mess. After all New Orleans has been through, you would think they would have better contingency plans.

Despite being old, the hotel is very clean and impressive, and the staff works hard to make the stay hospitable. I was also very happy to see them providing 2 bottles of water per night (I'm Diamond for reference so not sure of the criteria), which really helped considering the constant 90+ degree weather (also I'm a kidney donor so dehydration is a huge concern and danger to me when I'm traveling). One funny thing was I didn't get a Do Not Disturb sign, but no matter. After my first night, housekeeping also left some bathrobes and a piece of mint chocolate on each nightstand, which was a cute touch. I was impressed by the hotel's restaurant called the Fountain Lounge. While I didn't see a fountain, I enjoyed eating here daily, whether it was for breakfast, lunch, Chef's Happy Hour, or dinner. While hotel restaurant these days seem to have a bad rep for being both overpriced and boring, the dishes here were both a delight and competitive compared to a lot of quality sit-down restaurants nearby. It was good to see, as Waldorf Astoria was the brand that made eating out fashionable in the first place back before any of us were born. To set expectations, I don't expect perfection in this day and age as long as the basics are done right, and I even ran across some issues. But the staff were very willing to reasonably fix things so I can leave with a good experience, such as the front desk staff that fixed a check-in/credit issue, and a big shout-out to Ari, the F&B Manager who made my day on an unusually unlucky day for me. Next time I return, I do want to try more of their cocktails as they had many interesting ones. Sadly I started getting a fit of allergies, which may be related to the shampoo. They use Aesop products, which are high quality, but personally I find the fragrance strong and the shampoo seem to have some tree oil that makes my nose very unhappy. I may have to remember to bring my own shampoo next time, which is really unfortunately, but is no fault of the hotel. They do have valet parking, but sadly no EV charging. There are also many parking garages nearby for an extended stay if you don't mind carrying all your bags to and from the hotel. It is a full service hotel however, so count on that if you need a hand! The location is good as well, as it sits right on the border of the French Quarter near Canal St, meaning you'll probably be able to get better sleep than being right in it, but it's also right next to public transit and a very short walk away from Bourbon St. I felt safe and comfortable during my stay. They also have an outdoor "rooftop" pool (I believe it was the 4th floor) with a bar. Impressive that this hotel has 3 bars, including the hotel. I didn't see a gym, but they seemed to have spa service if you're big on that. Definitely my hotel of choice when I visit NOLA again!

The 2 things I care most about when staying in a hotel is a comfortable night's rest and a good bathroom/shower. The bed in our room was the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on in my entire life. It was so mushy that when you laid your head down, you sunk so far into it that your legs were literally 45 degrees above your head. I ended up sleeping upside down in the bed with my head where your feet go in order to feel even remotely comfortable. The pillows were all extremely flat, when you put your head on one it sank so far your face was about 1/2 inch from the mattress. I had to use 3 pillows stacked on each other. I had a stiff back, neck and joints the entire time we were there. The 2nd issue was hot water. The first morning, we attempted to shower, it only got barely luke warm for me and when my husband showered immediately after he only got ice cold water. We stopped at the front desk that morning on our way out for the day and told the woman at the front desk. She said she hadn't received any other complaints so it must be specific to our room and she would send engineering there to look at it. (we were getting hot water in the sink). Later that evening when we returned to our room, we immediately tested the shower again and it was still ice cold. So we went back to the front desk to check if engineering had come. We spoke to the same woman from the morning who acted like it was the first time we were telling her this and she said the exact same thing. I asked if they were going to come ASAP because we needed to shower soon and we couldn't take ice cold showers. She ignored my question and answered the ringing phone. A manager happened to be at the desk and overheard our conversation. He asked what our room number was and said that because of the old building and the pipes the hot water takes longer to get there. He said this was a KNOWN Issue by the staff, management and the owner. He told us to run the shower for AT LEAST 15 to 20 minutes, simultaneously with the sink and it should get hot. He also offered to move us to a different room but when I asked if he could guarantee if we wouldn't have the same problem in that room he couldn't give me a straight answer. We had already unpacked everything and didn't want to go through that hassle without a guarantee. So we went back to the room and let it run for 20 minutes and it eventually got hot. So for the remaining 3 mornings, we had to set our alarms for 30 minutes earlier so we could get up and run our shower before hand. For nearly $300 a night, we felt that this was ridiculous. Old building or not, if its a problem, then either don't put people in those rooms, or get it fixed somehow. Why should anyone be subjected to an ice old shower or an inconvenience to their time because the owner hasn't done anything about it? We visited the hotel Bar, the Bourbon O'bar 3 times during our stay and each time we received TERRIBLE service. None of the bartenders were friendly to us, in fact they were pretty rude. Each time it took them at least 10 minutes to even take our order (by standing there and looking at us and not saying anything). The bar was not busy or crowded any of these times. They would then start making one of our drinks, put it down and make other people's drinks, leave and go into a back room, play on their cell phone, talk to each other, or carry the glass around while doing other things. My husband ordered an old fashioned and the alcohol was sitting in the jar with the ice for over 5 minutes while the bartender carried it around doing other things, causing it to get watered down. When making a cocktail, it should be completed from start to finish without doing other things in the middle. I ordered the Mardi Drop cocktail on 2 different days. The first time, it was actually very good. The 2nd time from a different bartender it was horrible .He also sprinkled probably a tablespoon of cinnamon on top of it (which the first didn't have) which made it nearly undrinkable. I had to stir it into the martini in order to not get a mouthful of cinnamon with each sip. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant Roux because of the bad Yelp reviews - we felt we could get a better breakfast elsewhere outside the hotel. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all unless you don't care about being comfortable or friendly service.

Just be prepared for the wall of noise if you're staying on a Friday and Saturday night and have a room facing Bourbon Street; you will need more than the sound machine and earplugs the hotel provides you. But if you're there to party hard on Bourbon Street at all the touristy bars, then you will be in your element. Depending on the side of the hotel you select when booking your room and the days you choose, you may be able to get away with just a sound machine and earplugs, or you may be getting too old and need to look elsewhere. If you stay on the courtyard side, you should have enough barriers to deflect the nonstop barrage of noise coming from all the bars and clubs on Bourbon Street, especially between Bienville and St. Ann, on a Friday and Saturday night particularly. We had a room on the third floor with a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street that gave us a great view and the opportunity to enjoy wine and cocktails as the festivities picked up steam throughout the afternoons of our stay. The bed was wicked comfortable. The set of drawers had plenty of space to put clothes with a small fridge for keeping drinks cool and leftovers from spoiling. The closet space was ample and was able to fit all of our hang-up clothing and our suitcases. There was a nice lounge chair next to the desk to chill if you didn't want to sit on the balcony. However, the bathroom was cramped and narrow with these weird double doors that could cause trouble if you are going to do business in the middle of the night. The water pressure wasn't great either and if you don't have the curtain positioned right then you're going to have a puddle. Housekeeping did come by to change our linens and provide fresh towels every day, which was appreciated. The front desk was very affable and accommodating, especially with holding out luggage when our room wasn't quite ready yet to check-in. And I liked that there was a security person checking people that were actually staying at the hotel to avoid stragglers, random drunks, and transients from entering. I didn't have the chance to use the pool while I was there, but we were busy walking around the French Quarter to really care. Same went with having anything in the restaurant for food. They did have the little mini mart on the ground floor that worked for when we needed more bottles of water that were larger than the complimentary ones.
