Was able to find parking (went on a monday). Was meeting a friend, that's where he wanted to go. Was told this was a dive bar, but it looked nice for one. Lost of seating areas. The vibe was fun, and the staff was great and engaging. I would definitely go back if it wasn't so far.

Pretty basic dive bar in Downtown Roseville. Drinks are good. Drinks are priced reasonably. The bartenders are nice. Super local-dive bar vibes.

Tucked behind an unassuming alley in Old Roseville sits a green door marked only with the number…read more323. No signs. No bell. No sliding peek window. No sound leaking through the walls. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the wrong place or about to make a mistake and put yourself into a sketchy place. We looked around for a more "realistic" entry way not knowing the most realistic entry way is one that looks like a back door to a closed vacuum or furniture storefront. That's exactly the point. You knock. Immediately, the door opens. A man in a cowboy hat looks you over. He doesn't wear a name tag. He doesn't need one. He asks, "You have something to say?" If you've done your homework, and say the right thing, the door stays open. You're in. I do not know what happens if you do not have the word. What follows is less a bar and more a pocket of time. The interior is small but well conceived. The bar sits directly at the entrance, flanked by a few standing guests and several small tables. Beyond that, the space opens up into a lounge with seating for six to eight, and a longer bench-style area for a dozen or so. The walls are dark, the lighting low. It's the kind of place that feels like it remembers what Prohibition was, even if most of us never lived it. It felt like walking onto a movie set where we might be extras, and the main characters would enter and play out a scene. It was a perfect example of a speak easy in full swing. Even the glassware was legitimate. The decor is intentional. Books tucked into corners. Stags mounted on the wall. Nothing feels store-bought or trendy. It's immersive without trying too hard. The seats were not overstuffed contemporary types nor were the tables or even foot stools. They all looked like they came from a speak easy back in the day. About the only thing that did not look like the real thing were the patrons, as they were dressed casually, and of course the iPhones. I suppose that would have caused quite a ruckus during prohibition! Conversations are constant, layered over each other and laughter. It gets loud, but not obnoxious. There's a rhythm to the space that holds. My suggestion is to not go at 7pm on a Saturday and hope to get a prized table, couch or seat. Now, to the drinks. House Divided serves anything you ask for, but they lean into the theme. Classic cocktails done right. Throwbacks with historical lean. Creative new entries like lavender martinis that aren't just gimmicks. Each drink feels made by someone who knows what they're doing and takes pride in the process. This is not vodka-soda speed bar territory. It's craft, and it shows. I did not see a bottle of ocean spray anywhere, but what I did see were large glass bottles labeled with the juice or concoction held within. The little details are obvious! If I were to translate my usual framework:    *   Ambiance and Service: 4 stars (it can get loud and if you are here to have a conversation it will be difficult)    *   Quality: 5 stars- I had a simple drink - vodka and cranberry. With something "special" that the tender added. I don't know what it was, but the taste was wonderful! Way different than my standard go to!    *   Value? That depends on whether you're measuring price per ounce, or the fact that you just got to walk through a green door into another world. But in reality, 5 stars. Do I wish for more seating? Yes. Perhaps more quiet? Yes. But if it were those things, would it be the same? No. My guess is going on a Saturday at 7pm is going to be a bit crowded, and loud. That's my fault, and testament to their quality. Next, I found the staff to be great! Even the doorman gave it character, cowboy hat and boots and all! Great experience!

Who doesn't love the idea of a speakeasy?? We decided to head to Roseville in pursuit of a secret place. We found the secret door, knocked, and a young man answered. He asked for the password. Unfortunately I am not on social media and that's where you're supposed to find it. Bummer! I decided to use my own password. It worked and we entered the inner sanctum. It was a cool, smallish place with nice decor. The bar was the first thing we saw. I looked around to see a few tables and couches to the left. It was pretty early and there were only a few people there so we got a cozy little table in front of a velvety couch. I went to the bar where a burly tattooed OG bartender greeted me. I ordered an old fashioned and a raspberry lemon drop. My old fashioned was done very well. I'm on an old fashioned kick right now and love to try them at different places that look like they know how to make them. This one was really good. My friend wasn't so keen on her lemon drop, saying the lavender was a bit overpowering. We had another round and this time she had something different that she enjoyed. My second old fashioned was just as good as the first. It was getting later and more people happened to have the password and it was getting crowded. We were done, paid the tab, which wasn't bad considering how most speakeasy's can be pretty pricy. Overall, it was a great experience, the place was nice, friendly, and the drinks were done well. Give it a shot. Find the password, or use your own if you dare!

The Monk's Cellar holds a different kind of space less about routine comfort, and more about meals…read morethat feel worth sitting down for when the occasion calls for it. This visit took place on a Thursday morning, May 28, 2026. My friend and I were there to celebrate his birthday, which already set a different tone for the experience. The restaurant was quiet. Being early in the day, there was no rush or noise, just an easy stillness throughout the space. We chose to sit on the patio, which felt like the right decision given the weather. I can't fully speak to the interior atmosphere, since I joined my friend directly outside. Service was handled by a staff member whose name I unfortunately don't remember, but whose presence stood out throughout the meal. She was attentive without being intrusive, consistently present at the right moments, and delivered a level of service that felt natural and well paced. The meal began with a rabbit dish ordered by my friend. It was my first time trying rabbit, and it left a strong impression. The preparation was juicy and well seasoned, with a depth of flavor that made it memorable. Looking back, that first experience with rabbit also set a high expectation for any future rabbit dish I might order myself. My main was The Monk's Cellar burger, one of the restaurant's signature items. I ordered it with avocado. It initially arrived without it, but once requested, it was brought out promptly and it was some of the most cleanly presented avocado I've seen served alongside a burger. The burger itself delivered exactly what it was meant to. The beef had a solid, grounded flavor, and what stood out most were the pickled red onions, which added a sharp acidity that balanced the richness of the meat. The structure was simple, but effective, and everything felt intentional rather than overworked. With the avocado added, it became a more rounded and balanced bite. It's the kind of burger that doesn't try to reinvent itself it just executes well. For me, it remains a staple when I return. For dessert, we asked the server to recommend her personal favorite, which led us to a caramel cheesecake. It turned out to be one of the most memorable cheesecakes I've had. The cheesecake itself carried a rich caramel flavor, but what made it stand out was the combination . Each bite brought together cheesecake, crispy banana, a hint of chocolate or cacao, and nuts that added texture and contrast. It was sweet, but controlled complex without feeling forced. Definitely one of my favorites dessert I had ever tried. I won't go into detail about the drink, as I ordered something off menu (Salty Dog) but good. By the end of the meal, the impression remained consistent with previous visits. The Monk's Cellar is not a restaurant I go to constantly, but every time I do, it delivers. I've ended up here more than once for celebrations, including birthdays, which says something about the role it plays for me. Not every restaurant needs to reinvent itself. Some earn their place simply by being reliable when it matters. This one has consistently been that. Daniel Salguero.

You can imagine my happiness when I stumbled upon this bar/gaming room with the funny German sounding name when I realized it was a glorified pinball arcade room that also served beer. This place is straight amazing-50+ of the greatest pinball machines are available to play. They do use the "game-card" system to pay for these games, which can make playing these games way too easy-games tend to cost about $1 a game in game credits to play, which is far more than I paid when I was an 8 year old kid but then again, that was 45 years ago. They have a pretty solid beer selection-beers tend to go for anywhere between $7-$8 a beer-not too bad in my opinion.Though they do offer a pretty unique item called "Das Boot" which is a pretty large boot that cost $40 and comes with a fill up at time of purchase and 20% off on future fill ups-though not sure what the original cost of a fill up is exactly. One massive upgrade I've learned in the pinball world is nowadays you can download an app by Stern Inc,the majority manufacturer of most of the popular pinball machines and you can register your pinball play and it will keep tabs of everywhere u play and all the scores u achieved on the various pinball machines-I really enjoyed this feature-I only wish they had this when I was in my prime of pinball play when I was a youth. This place doesn't have the best hours but I'm sure there is a reason for these hours-M-F the hours are 5p-10p and on weekends they open at 12p... In closing-If you ever find yourself in the Rocklin area and you get a yearning to try out your pinball machine skills-I couldn't recommend this spot any higher as they are a very unique spot offering a truly awesome experience-a trip down memory lane for some and a whole new world for the younger generation-You should get out there and have some fun. PS-I failed to mention this place is very family friendly-on my particular visit the place was flooded with kids from elementary to high school age honing their pinball machine skills and enjoying every minute of it.

Games are very clean and in excellent playing condition. There's also Stern leaderboards visible along with their own leaderboards for solid state (older) games, which I've never seen anywhere else. The whole space is clean and welcoming. It's loud, but that's because it's a pinball spot. The staff are super friendly and provide great service. The mac n' cheese bites I had last week were freshly prepared (from scratch), cooked to order, piping hot, and totally delicious--and also under $10. The beers and ciders on tap are all mostly from small, local makers and under $10/pint. They also have plenty of NA drink options. If you're a pinball person, I dare you to find a more accommodating spot for playing and vibing out. If you're not a pinball person, this is a great place to fall in love with the game.
