Through another Yelpers recommendation, I decided to drag my cousin out to this establishment for the first time. This was actually the first time I visited the entire downtown Roseville area, and I was pleasantly surprised there was a parking garage since all the parking spots in front of the establishment were occupied. We arrived around 1:30PM and observed a fair amount of patrons on a Monday. We were immediately greeted and seated. Loved the decor. After a few minutes mulling over what to get, I ended up getting the French Dip with duck fat fries. I also tried their Divinity Stout. Wow. The food - Amazing! Really enjoyed the French Dip - well sized portion and ended up having leftovers that I was able to enjoy a few hours later ha! The Stout (Divinity) - I need to go back and buy some bottles to go. So good! I'll definitely be back. The one minor gripe was I observed was there weren't any TV's at the bar (from what I can see anyway). This was a solid choice when stopping through. The beer was pretty good and the NA list was extensive which is always nice to see. We ordered the French dip and the Reuben. For the French dip I will say it was bursting with flavor, the bun was nice and crispy and soft on the inside and the meat tasty. My only issue was it was way over salted. The Reuben was also tender, tasty and the sauce was very good but again the fries and meat felt over salted. They were packed so our server was few and far between but she was really kind and you could tell there was just a lot going on. This visit took place on a Thursday morning, May 28, 2026. My friend and I were there to celebrate his birthday, which already set a different tone for the experience. The restaurant was quiet. Being early in the day, there was no rush or noise, just an easy stillness throughout the space. We chose to sit on the patio, which felt like the right decision given the weather. I can't fully speak to the interior atmosphere, since I joined my friend directly outside. Service was handled by a staff member whose name I unfortunately don't remember, but whose presence stood out throughout the meal. She was attentive without being intrusive, consistently present at the right moments, and delivered a level of service that felt natural and well paced. The meal began with a rabbit dish ordered by my friend. It was my first time trying rabbit, and it left a strong impression. The preparation was juicy and well seasoned, with a depth of flavor that made it memorable. Looking back, that first experience with rabbit also set a high expectation for any future rabbit dish I might order myself. My main was The Monk's Cellar burger, one of the restaurant's signature items. I ordered it with avocado. It initially arrived without it, but once requested, it was brought out promptly and it was some of the most cleanly presented avocado I've seen served alongside a burger. The burger itself delivered exactly what it was meant to. The beef had a solid, grounded flavor, and what stood out most were the pickled red onions, which added a sharp acidity that balanced the richness of the meat. The structure was simple, but effective, and everything felt intentional rather than overworked. With the avocado added, it became a more rounded and balanced bite. It's the kind of burger that doesn't try to reinvent itself it just executes well. For me, it remains a staple when I return. For dessert, we asked the server to recommend her personal favorite, which led us to a caramel cheesecake. It turned out to be one of the most memorable cheesecakes I've had. The cheesecake itself carried a rich caramel flavor, but what made it stand out was the combination . Each bite brought together cheesecake, crispy banana, a hint of chocolate or cacao, and nuts that added texture and contrast. It was sweet, but controlled complex without feeling forced. Definitely one of my favorites dessert I had ever tried. I won't go into detail about the drink, as I ordered something off menu (Salty Dog) but good. By the end of the meal, the impression remained consistent with previous visits. The Monk's Cellar is not a restaurant I go to constantly, but every time I do, it delivers. What has happened to Monk's Cellar? I used to love this place, enough to bring my partner here for an anniversary dinner. The pickled veggies was subpar, the halibut was incredibly dry and the Reuben sandwich was burnt. It was very empty for a Thursday evening, so I am assuming word has gotten out the quality has declined quite a bit. The service was great however, and our food server took the sandwich off of our bill. And as a sidenote, they charged us 50 cents to have ranch dressing with our fries. Really?? Decided on an early Friday dinner date night around 5pm here since we were in the area for an event. Located in the middle of downtown Roseville, parking is not hard to find at all as there is plenty of street parking and a nearby garage. The decor inside is stunning. You can see industrial-size equipment for the beer fermentation process, and the dark wooden walls match the cellar theme perfectly. However, we were seated at a small table with bar stools that wasn't very comfortable. It was a warm day outside, so the AC was blasting inside and I got cold very fast. Shout out to my husband for walking back to the car to grab my jacket! We started off with drinks. I got the Thirst Trap mocktail, which was sweet and tart and reminded me of Nerds candy. However, I don't think it was worth the $14 price tag. My husband got the Vernon Street Lager, which was a very tasty beer. For an appetizer, we ordered the Pickled Veggie Jar. It had a great variety of brussel sprouts, onions, radishes, and more that were deliciously pickled. Unfortunately, it took over 40 minutes for our entrees to arrive, so we ended up eating half of this just waiting for our food. Carbonnade Flamande: My husband ordered this braised short rib stew served over mashed potatoes. The beef itself was very good, but the portion of meat was very small compared to the mountain of mashed potatoes. It tasted nice, but for $26, we expected a bit more meat. Moules Frites: I got the mussels cooked in broth, served with duck fat fries and crostinis. The mussels were plentiful and the broth was very flavorful. Overall, the food was decent but the fries were the absolute best part of everything we ordered and everything is on the pricey side. The service didn't really stand out either. There was no reassurance or update on why our food was taking so long. Plus, water was never served automatically, and when I finally asked for some, our server only brought one glass even though we were a party of two. Came here on a busy Saturday just a few minutes after they opened, there was already a line and I was able to get a seat at the bar. I ordered a pint of the Vernon Street Lager ($7) and the fish and chips ($22). The fish and chips had a slightly sweet flavor to them, which was unique. This is a MUST especially if you are in the Downtown Roseville area. This place is appealing to the eye, fun to be in and serves up some great drinks and bites. I have enjoyed this place just for a stop in with friends just to have some drinks. I have also come here for a gathering with a big group. There was another time when I explored this place to meet up with a friend for a bite and drinks. All of these experiences had excellent customer service despite how hectic and busy it got. Perfect crunch and not too much garlic. The fish and chips were good too- didn't have too much batter like some places. We sat outside under the patio with the doggies. This review is based solely on the beer at Monks Cellar. I did not try the food. This is a restaurant but they also have their brewing setup on display inside. Very cool vibes but more upscale than a typical brewery. I stopped in around 7:30pm for a few beers and ended up grabbing a flight. It's not on their menu but they can do taster pours for about $2-3 each. After my initial round of tasting, I really enjoyed the dark Mexican lager with great toasty malt flavor and the pale ales were also great. I decided to try out their barrel aged beers as well. My god, this is where they shine here. The barrel aged sours here are incredible. Some of the best I've had. I ended up talking to one of the restaurant partners, Paul, and he told me about their open fermentation system and unique white wine barrel that they've used for years to barrel age Belgian classics. This is a MUST TRY in Roseville for any true beer lover. Get the barrel aged stuff. I head the food is good too! read more

The Monk's Cellar is a staple on Vernon Street in Roseville and my girlfriend, and I go occasionally and have the Cellar Board (Charcuterie board) and love the crackers they use. I believe they come from what is left when making the ales and they turn it into a cracker or wafer thing sheet and break it into pieces. Make it unique from other places that do similar boards. Also, cheeses vary over time, so you do not get the exact same board every time. We like to sit at the bar sometimes or out on the patio but take what we can get since neither is super large. Staff is always friendly and services is consistent. read more

I have been to this spot many times but had a poor experience at last week. I got ketchup spilled all over me, my vegan nut burger tasted bland (I've had it before and it was not good this time), I got charged the wrong bill and given the wrong credit card back twice and received the wrong food for one of the orders. Let's start off with the service. When you go, you need to ask to sit in Nicole's section. My goodness she was the one of the best servers we have ever had. She always had a smile on her face and listened when we talked to her. She made our experience here absolutely wonderful. Thank you, Nicole!!!! The restaurant looks small but it is long! Nicely decorated and the bar is cute! Now the food. We have been here twice and both times we have ordered the Scotch egg. If you have never tried one. Do it. The flavors are delicious and pairs so well with the garlic aioli, pickled onions and arugula. It also comes with a horseradish type sauce, I am not of fan of horseradish but my husband said it was good. We also tried the Monk's burger. It comes with arugula, the pickled onions with a side of garlic aioli. Freaking YUM. Their fries are interesting, not my favorite but only because they seem to be oddly hallow in the center..? Not sure if it's because they are fried in duck fat or what... nonetheless, they are good. I also enjoyed a strawberry fields tequila drink that is very refreshing and not overly sweet. Hubs got the arbitrary beer and he thought it was delicious! Last time we ate here we had the craftsman chicken sandwich. That was also to die for. Okay so I been wanting to come try this place out forever. Inside is all wood tables a bar nice open space with a nice heated patio . They also have more seating areas towards the restrooms . We were there about 20 mins after we got seated and no waiter had come to our table to check on us . I had to ask my host I was not being rude I just let her know we had not had service yet . She was very kind and said she would get someone. We finally got a waiter to get our drinks I asked for water a few times through the night I was very thirsty. I had been at the park all day with my kids games . There was one point I had to go ask the bar for a cup of water. I felt bad doing that and the waiter realize that and brought all of us water, but that wasn't until we were already eating our food. I would think water would be the first thing a waiter would bring or ask if we would like. We were also missing napkins and other things like our burger not being spit . Our waiter was super nice. I just think attention to detail was not there. For food- The croquettes were very good . The tri-tip French dip the meat was very chewy . The American hamburger was very juicy and delicious. I was not a fan of the beer they had . The cocktail menu didn't catch my eye so I told our waiter if they could make me a white Linen he said yes but when I got my drink it had no cucumber not sure what it was but it was not a white Linen . The ambience is a tough one. They are right next-door to Goldfield, which there was a concert that day. It was really loud in there because you could hear the concert and on top of that you could hear everybody talking. Overall I think this place is just not for us but I know some people enjoy it . I held my wedding rehearsal dinner here in the back! It was the perfect space as it wasn't exactly a "private" room but there are curtains that gave us a feeling of privacy from the rest of the restaurant/bar. Came here for lunch to catch up some college friends and enjoyed the vibes. Food-wise everything was ok with some room for improvements. The best thing we ate was easily their duck fat fries. Honestly probably some of the best fries I've had in a really long time plus they have solid ranch. For my main, I got the schnitzel sandwich. I couldn't really taste much as it kinda just tasted like the fry oil. Maybe it needed more aioli but I thought it was lacking seasoning, probably wouldn't order again. My SO got the tri-tip salad, and the meat was chewy. Good portion sizes though for under $20 a dish. The cocktails and shots we got were tasty, and the service was good. We started with the large pretzel, croquettes, and the scotch egg. The large pretzel wasn't anything special. My wife is the pretzel snob, and she said it was by no-means anywhere near one of the better pretzels she has had. The croquettes were pretty tasty, however the taste got redundant. I was the only one eating them. If I were to only eat one or two, then I think it would have been more appetizing. The scotch egg, on the other hand, was okay. I wouldn't order it again, but it was decent. It was nice that the appetizers came with sauces and pickled onions to change the palate. Everyone ordered different burgers. I chose the Monk's Burger and upgraded the fries. The burger was okay at best. For as much that was in the burger, it was really lacking flavor. I don't know if the meat to everything else ratio was too much or what, but I wasn't impressed. The saving grace of the whole experience was the service. Our server was great and very attentive. He wasn't too overbearing but checked in just enough. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, as well. Part of me wants to give the place another try and see if it was just an off meal. First time here and I was impressed. Unfortunately, I had just missed happy hour because it ends early before 5. They have an extensive beer menu but I ended up trying one of their signature cocktails called The Sundress. It was STRONG but not overpowering. I found it very refreshing. My friend and I shared a plate of duck fat garlic parmesan fries which were amazingly delicious. They came out hot and crisp! If you are a garlic lover like me, I would definitely order them. I really appreciated the customer service that are waitress provided. We had a minor hiccup with our initial round of fries turning cold quickly and it was quickly resolved. The service was excellent, we had multiple people, checks that had to be given out, and the waitress was spotted with everything. Been planning on coming here since July 2023 when I bid on a Beer and Cheese pairing they donated to the Make A Wish foundation. It was worth the wait. First we were given a tour by the head brewer Christian. Christian was fantastic and you could just feel the enthusiasm, joy and passion as he shared his knowledge of brewing beer with us. After the tour we did our Beer and Cheese pairing. Now I've done a lot of Wine and Cheese but never Beer and Cheese. I was really surprised how well the cheese paired with the beer that they chose to pair. It was a fun experience. We decided to have dinner after the pairing. I had then scotch egg and a nut vegan burger. The scotch egg was a little over cooked but tasty. The burger was interesting. You could definitely taste the seeds and nuts that made up the patty. It was different, tasty but not something I would probably order again. Someone else ordered the sausage plate and shared a piece of sausage with me.... Very good sausage. I'm ordering that next time. The place has a welcoming, classic brew pub feel. Nice seating area outside and lots of room in side to either hang with a big group or have an intimate conversation with someone. Oh and I can't forget the beer. They have some really tasty beer. My only regret is forgetting to buy some to take home with me. I was told they only distribute locally in the Sacramento area so I guess I'll be going back to get me some beer. We've been here a few times and my family loves the Monk's Cellar. We make up every excuse to come visit. We got to visit on a colder day so I went with comfort food and finally got the cottage pie.
