My boyfriend and I had brunch here a few weeks ago and I enjoyed our meal. Free coffee (with refills often) was definitely a great part of brunch--and the service was great. It was alright. Bread was soft and buttery, great food. Portions are definitely large for how much you are paying for food in New York. Service was great. Ambience was great. It seems like a popular spot for the locals. Being from Albany downtown, downtown breakfast spots. It was 3-4 star for me. Just an idea, they should add a rooster sounds that plays every few hours, just to make everything more exciting. The dim lights are more like dinner style. I wish there was more light and sun light to get in, may be I will get a better lit booth next time. The lady at the gift store was dry and didn't not have a positive outlook on her. We enjoyed our brunch at The Ugly Rooster. The new Farmer's Daughter sandwich (requested to be served on gluten-free bread - otherwise served in sourdough) was delicious, the eggs Benedict was spot on, and the gluten-free pancake was light and tasty. Service was friendly and fast, the coffee was hot, and the restaurant itself is very clean. I also love that they offer pure maple syrup--big points for that! The only downside for me is the use of fake "jug butter" on grilled sandwiches and toast. It just doesn't compare to real butter (next time I'll ask them to skip it). Same goes for syrup--living in maple country, there's really no reason for anything but the real deal. Overall though, fresh food, great service, and a place we will return to! read more

This is the perfect spot to bring family who are visiting. There is something for everyone. We ordered a small breakfast which had home fries, eggs, and toast; biscuits and sausage gravy; sides of home fries; yummy cakes; and coffee. The gravy and biscuits were delicious, full of flavor. The home fries were nice and crispy, seasoned well, and not huge chunks of potatoes. Great with the gravy! The real winner was the yummy cakes. So delicious! It is a huge pancake swirled with cinnamon sugar inside and glazed with a vanilla glaze. The edges were crispy from the butter on the griddle...I'm drooling just writing about it. We love the Rooster! We usually come here for breakfast, but their lunch food is also amazing. The service is typically very good and they have a really cute store in the back where you also pay for your meal. Initially, did not love the atmosphere, but I actually have come to like it a lot, it's actually great ambience for this style of eatery and we go there fairly frequently. We drove out last Sunday for breakfast. Staff was friendly, food was good, Not great but decent and for the cost fine. It was clear to us we were outsiders though. We were treated well but there was an obvious division in attentiveness between people they know and people they don't. A delicious breakfast spot! Went here at 8am on a Sunday to avoid the breakfast rush and thankfully we did. We were seated right away and when the waitress came over to greet us, I asked for recommendations since it was my first visit. She asked whether I preferred sweet or savory and when I said sweet, she recommended Nick's Famous French Toast with bananas and chocolate chips. I was sold! My friend ordered the Yummy cinnamon swirl pancakes. Our food was out within 10 minutes and it was absolutely delicious! The French Toast was thick and the bananas and chocolate chips were the perfect accompaniment. My friend also really enjoyed the pancakes. It was less than $25 for both breakfast dishes. The wife says "the best French toast I have eaten in my entire life." I did taste it and found it good as well. However, she found the coffee weak. Refills appear to be automatic if you order a soft drink. If you want coffee, you have to ask, unlike every single other breakfast restaurant in the the United States. I had the Spanish omelette. This was heavy on the ground beef, but good. My only complaint is that the restaurant was freezing cold. Maybe a little heat. My cousin ordered a Ruben the size of a Chevy SUV. Yet, she managed to eat the whole thing and said it was good. I will stop in again on my next trip to Mechanicville. read more

We really wanted to like this restaurant. We love diners. Started out well, really busy but we got out table pretty quickly. Girl at the front/hostess was on her game. We ordered pretty quickly, my husband got the hamburger. I got the grilled cheese. Added avocado, and bacon. Which according to the menu was. $2.10 upcharge ( it read like choose two for 2.10). And loaded fries. We got our meal all together (loaded fries were an appetizer and we got it after everything else- also not worth $8.50. My husband got more fries with his meal than I did with the appetizer-not-appetizer). The reason I gave it 3 stars...we never saw our waitress again and no one else seemed to care if we were taken care of..I ran out of water pretty early. I kept trying to get other waitresses eye, but they didn't pay attention to help other tables. Kid came and got our empty plates and gave me the to go box. I was ready to get up and ask the hostess if she could give us our check because we think the waitress left. Then our waitress (Ana) finally re-appeared and dropped our check. Not another word from her. Both water glasses empty, been sitting there obviously waiting with a to go box....no apology, no do you want dessert, no refill of water....they charged me almost $6 for a few slices of avacaldo and two slices of bacon. Grilled cheese was so good and my husband loved his hamburger and French fries. They gave my husband a military discount on his hamburger only, which was odd. Discounted my up charge, but not enough....such high hopes. Food was amazing, nice clean restaurant, diner ambiance. Waitress really ruined it for us. read more

If you want gravies and biscuits that have a tablespoon of salt along with your spoonful this is the place for you we thought it was absolutely disgusting . The same cut-up grayish meat was mixed in with so much cheese we could not even locate the eggs absolutely disgusting even though the online order said to omit the cheese we also ordered sourdough bread with this and we're giving rye bread with so much butter in it you could squeeze it out . The side order of home fries were actually pretty tasty except for all the grease . We are trying different places to meet our family at but this place was a definite no stars I don't know why It got such a high rating but it was so disgusting we threw the food out . Tucked away as a side on the menu when it is the star dish and best hash in the area. If it were up to me I would base the menu around it. Corned beef benedict, corned beef omelette, corned beef breakfast burrito, substitute home fries for it. The portions are huge and prices low. Service is quick and I don't know that I've ever had to wait for table. If so, it wasn't long. Definitely worth the travel. read more
