It was after noon and we decided to go out to our favorite brunch place, Sweeney's and got there thankfully, before they closed. Food is always filling and fresh and tasty. See the pics! Had to bring home a few cinnamon buns which are huge, and they each come with a separate small container of icing. Just look in the case before you eat and pick up some treats for later. Love Sweeneys. HUGE portions. I go for the amazingly fluffy and giant pancake. You can share one pancake for two! Quality food with fluffy eggs and try the corn-beef hash! The only thing I would change is the potatoes are a bit big compared the corn beef, but lot of corn beef as they do not skimp out! The only issue is that the service is aways very slow. The pancakes due yo thickness and size do take 15min., but it takes a long time to get order in and get check to leave. I have always been there well over an hour every time. If that is not an issue with you, this is a must try! Share a dish, it's a lot! read more

Being a local who never stopped by I decided to give it a whirl. Walked in and no customers were inside. We were seated right away and brought our coffees. I usually drink a black one sugar coffee. This coffee needed cream and massive sugar. Hey everyone has there likes and dislikes. I ordered a breakfast burrito with bacon and Cajun home fries. The burrito was kind of bland, it comes with a side of salsa and sour cream. The home fries were ok, my wife loved them. The waitress wasn't so friendly. Seemed like either she didn't want to be there or didn't want to deal with us. The prices on the posted menus in the yelp photo section are old, everything went up dramatically. Wasn't even acknowledged by the waitress, we had to call her over and she said I can't take your order until the cooks tell me I can take your order. We'd be more understanding if we were told that upfront to begin with. The guy who took our drink was nice and fast, he took it pretty much right when we sat down. We do have to say though...the food was very good. My first reaction was to say we'd never come here again but because the food was good we are will to come back again and at least this time we know what to expect as far as getting our food order taken. Sweeneys is a nice place to eat. The food is good and the staff is friendly Mom and Dad can relax and let the kids be kids and not little adults who know all the rules of dining out. Saw a bad review and felt sad that the person did not get help from the Manager ..She should have addressed the situation and let staff know how unhappy the dining event was for them. I was in the restaurant when the baby was. The baby did not crawl....it WAS IN A swing glider on the counter where the adult in charge of the baby was. Huge portions... I'm out here quite often but have never been to the reincarnation of what was Eli's. Sweeney's coffee is the sleeper (really good). The Paul Bunyan-esque breakfast had a thick pancake that was done to perfection (usually they are undercooked..). One star off for fake syrup...around this area any breakfast joint should never skimp on it since NY State cranks out more maple syrup than anyone (yes talking to you Vermont...you aren't the only place that has syrup mountains and organic food you dopes...) read more

Excellent! I visited this location when it was under different ownership a long time ago and have wanted to try the new version for quite a while. Went for the first time this morning and I'm SO full. Fat and happy. I had a breakfast burrito (no meat) with a side of Cajun home fries. It's served with homemade salsa and there's a choice between mild and hot. I went all in with hot and the salsa was perfect. Sour cream is included as well. Delicious and gigantic...even without the meat (which was my choice...it normally comes with meat inside that giant pocket of breakfast goodness). It seems like there were a dozen eggs and pounds of cheese (menu said pepper jack but this cheese seemed milder) in there....accompanied by lightly grilled onions. The home fries were delicious and just spicy enough for the first meal of the day. I usually like very well done potatoes, but these were cooked just right...a few crunchy bites here and there with the soft, spiced red potatoes taking over for texture. Not greasy, either. Score. Rave reviews on the eggs Benedict. I tasted the sauce....VERY rich...and again....holy generous portion, batman. Coffee is good and strong. Service is fast and friendly. The decor is "modern-throwback-diner" and the whole place is super clean. Lots of regulars poured in and the folks that work there quickly hustled over with the drinks that those regulars wanted (before ordering)...and some conversation, of course. The breakfast and lunch menus are extensive and have something for everyone. Check the specials board...today they had chocolate chip cookie dough pancakes as one of the options....I almost went there.... but decided on protein instead of diabetes. Next time. Prices are beyond reasonable. Only want a piece of french toast? $3. My gigantic burrito was about $8. Coffee is $2.50 with free refills. Ten of us ladies had lunch on a Friday after touring nearby historic Schylerville House. Wow! Everyone enjoyed the food. Three of us had the daily special "Chicken a la king" and were pleased by the tender chicken pieces, outstanding crisp flavorful biscuits, light tasty gravy, and vegetables. Two had the Eggs Benedict which were perfectly prepared! They were served with home-fries made with small potatoes and browned very nicely. The others were happy with wraps and sandwiches. One person ordered six custom doughnuts to go. Another had a Samoa Chocolate Milk (coconut). The creative, extensive menu included a different pancake special each day, and we wished we were close by to return. Even though the restaurant was packed, the service was attentive and friendly. We were here on 05/27/23 for breakfast. Seemed to be a local staple that caters to its regulars but we found it to be a bit unwelcoming. With some prompting, it took our waitress considerable time to acknowledge us. When she approached us, she said nothing. I expected a "Good morning" or "May I take your order?", but we finally broke the ice. Julie ordered an English muffin. Most places offer a standard breakfast of 2 eggs, toast, meat, and home fries. This menu had the following choices: 2 eggs and toast, 2 eggs meat and toast, 2 eggs meat toast and home fries, 2 eggs and meat. I ordered 2 eggs sunny side up, toast, home fries, and Canadian bacon. The two options of home fries presented were Cajun or regular, so I elected on the latter. The potatoes were ladened with spices that were so unappetizing, I couldn't eat them. The eggs were the tiniest little eggs I've ever seen, barely enough yoke to cover a half-slice of bread. The Canadian bacon was a bit dry and overcooked. The bread and coffee were the most delicious parts of the meal. There was one moment when a party of six came in and the staff moved extra chairs to the table to accommodate them. As the chairs were moved, all these dust particles floated around the establishment. The floor probably hasn't had a good mopping in weeks. All in all, I believe Sweeney's is a good stop for the locals, but we will probably search out other venues for breakfast in the future. read more

I normally don't review but this place warranted the call out. This place checked all the brunch boxes. Excellent eggs Benedict with lemony light hollandaise Homemade corned beef hash Dinner plate sized pancakes you actually want to eat. Real maple syrup served without upcharges Wife got the Reuben and said it was good. Likely since they make their own corned beef. We will definitely be back for brunch to check out the rest of the menu. Oh and they also make custom donuts to order Will report back when we dig in later. read more

Stopped in for breakfast, waitress was sweet. Took our order then we waited for 40 mins for our food- and they were not busy at all- like no one was served in that time. Finally asked the waitress and we were told pancakes take a long time. There pancakes came and they were huge, not good huge like birthday cake with syrup. More like a big round muffin- home fries had some kinda weird oregano seasoning and were terrible, corned beef was so over cooked then put on top of more nasty home fries. I realized we waited so long because the cook was out of the kitchen - until we complained that we needed our food or had to go. I felt bad for the waitress who was pleasant and had not control. Wow! Our other go-to breakfast sandwich place now has some serious competition! Here's the deal! You have to order the breakfast sandwich with two eggs and extra cheese! This gives the perfect proportion of egg to cheese to bread! The eggs were cooked perfectly! The bacon was crisp and the cheese was melted just right! The sandwich was fully loaded and delicious! We ordered the sandwiches to go and they were still piping hot when we bit into them. My wife and I were in Schuylerville and needed to find someplace to get some lunch. We didn't know anything about Sweeney's, but it looked like a good place to try. So we went in. It was clean and neat, which spoke well. My wife ordered the Turkey Ruben and I had the open face hot turkey. When we got our sandwiches, we were amazed. The slices of turkey were from a fresh baked turkey and were at least 1/2 inch thick. The gravy and the turkey were delicious. I highly recommend this place. read more

Stopped for a quick breakfast before volunteering at Wreaths of America and didn't have a great experience as I had hoped. We were seated and ordered juice, we weren't asked what size and noticed we purchased two $4 glass of juice. Then about 8 minutes later, after I asked for a waitress, I ordered an egg sandwich. I wasn't asked how I'd like the eggs cooked and it came out hard, not over easy. Partly my fault for not remembering but nonetheless, the server didn't do a good job serving us. Living locally, we had high hopes for Sweeney's since they opened. While we have had a couple okay breakfasts, and we LOVED the donuts, today's meal has pushed us to the point that we won't be back. The toast was hard as a rock to the point of being inedible. The kids pancakes were raw in the middle. When we asked about a very milky cappuccino, we were told that they make it differently - they use regular coffee and just put milk on top since their frother doesn't work well. And all of this required over a 25 minute wait for a basic breakfast - pancakes for the kids, eggs and toast for my husband and I. Sweeney's has a lot of potential and some great ideas with a drink menu and expanding in size, but with other options now available in Schuylerville, they need to up their game. read more

I sent them backs and was told it is a wet batter and they aren't raw. Didn't offer anything else as a replacement. Waited 15 minutes for grits. They were instant and even these were not mad properly. Runny and raw. Take them off your menu if you can't even make instant grits. Charged me an upcharge for both the grits and raw pancake. Read some positive reviews so my wife and I drove 1/2 hour on her birthday for a nice breakfast. The pancakes where homemade and good but very dry. I tried endlessly to get the one waitresses attention for more butter, and coffee but she was too busy chatting with locals at the counter. I am normally a big tipper but regretfully she received only about 9% on our check had she been more attentive to us she would have received 25%. So much for Sweeney's we will never go there again and I owe my wife a great (make up) birthday breakfast. read more

My wife and I came to Sweeney's for breakfast this morning on the enthusiastic recommendation of our daughter, and she was so right. The omelette was incredible, the pancakes were even better, and the French Toast was out of this world. What can I say--fresh, huge, delicious with real maple syrup on the table?!? Brittany was welcoming and with us throughout the meal, and her sister Courtney(the artist in the kitchen)came out to greet us and hear the praise firsthand. I really wanted to like this place since it replaced Eli's and the menu was about the same. However, the food is just not good since the ownership has changed. Now I have gotten food that was undercooked, had a weird texture/consistency, and I have also gotten food that tasted bland/chemically. I wish I could give this restaurant more than five stars. Family owned and operated, the breakfast was hot and fresh with freshly poached eggs for an exquisite eggs Florentine. The breakfast burrito was as big as my head. The muffins were enough for two people and as a bonus they toasted them which I had never had before.The waitress, the wife of the owner actually, refilled the coffee before I could even ask. My family and I were just passing through but this was a dream of a breakfast. I also liked the gray and white modern decor. The bathrooms were very clean. read more
