I have been a tenant at this apartment for four years. It is perfectly located in Midtown Detroit…read more Walking distance from Wayne State medical school, and Wayne State undergrad campus. A short Uber ride from downtown and with the new Q line built there is a station right in front of the apartment that takes you anywhere you need to go along Woodward. The unit includes dishwasher, a refrigerator, oven, microwave, and a washer and dryer. The unit does not come furnished allowing you to customize it your self. I have attached pictures of my one bedroom, one bathroom unit " midtown" floor plan. The apartment building also has a gym that has recently been remodeled and upgraded. It has a television, two treadmills, two ellipticals, a bicycle, assisted benchpress rack, free weights, and a multi exercise weight machine like a bowflex. The current building managers John and Nikki are the best we have ever had. They truly care about the cleanliness of the building, they are very responsive to complaints, and they are constantly striving to upgrade and improve the services of the building. They host monthly events for the whole apartment including things like a happy hour social, or a night out at hop cat all on the tab of studio one. The building managers also have organized a custom coffee and smoothie cart to make drinks for the tenants. They truly care about us! There is a call box at the front door. And a nightly security guard who patrols the property for extra security. This is much appreciated. The only complaints I would have about the location is that on a Friday or Saturday night the people at starters bar and grill downstairs can make too much noise in the parking lot. Also, the parking downstairs is for retail customers only. If you have a car you will need to purchase a separate parking pass in the structure. Overall I give this place five stars for its price, comfort, staff, location, and security, the combination of which is not found anywhere else in Midtown Detroit.

The location is awesome with it being right in midtown. There are a ton of places to walk to and downtown is a 30 min walk or a QLINE ride away. The apartments are super nice, mine has black granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, large windows, and a small balcony. Overall I have had poor experiences with renting and this one has been exceptional with this company, definitely recommend if you are looking to live in the midtown area.

You are within walking distance of Greektown, Campus Martius Park, Eastern Market, the Detroit Riverfront, the Dequindre Cut, Comerica Park, Ford Field and more. This made city-living an absolute blast! The rent is the most cost effective I found while looking for apartments in Downtown Detroit. Many apartments have additional charges for utilities, parking or even floor level. City Place only has one monthly rent payment - with parking and utilities included. Also, the City Place staff is great! If I ever have any questions or concerns about my lease Danielle, the property manager, would quickly respond to set up a time for us to talk. The maintenance staff is also very responsive to any requests I submitted. Within days, my request would be handled with no questions asked. I loved my single-bedroom apartment. The living room is spacious and there was plenty of room for my sectional couch, tables and more. I was also fortunate enough to have an apartment with a view of the city and the Detroit River - it is BEAUTIFUL! I would highly recommend City Place to any of my friends or family who would be looking to rent in Downtown Detroit!

After my unit was flooded due to another tenant's negligence, I expected at least a prompt and professional response. Instead, I was told by emergency maintenance to just "leave for the day" and it would be taken care of--only to come home to a leaking ceiling, soaked carpet, and no real progress. Maintenance didn't arrive until the next day, and all they did was remove the light and smoke alarm--leaving me without a fire alarm in my room for days. As of writing this, water damage in the walls hasn't been addressed, my carpet still reeks of mildew, and the lack of urgency is unacceptable. Mold grows fast, and I'm still living in unsafe conditions. Even after explaining all of this to management, they offered no rent discount, no apology beyond empty words, and essentially told me they were "acting within the lease agreement." If black mold grows in the walls, I guess that's just the lease at work. The Union has long had issues--stained hallways, slow responses, roaches, fleas--and this was just the final straw. For the price I pay, the living conditions and service are absolutely not worth it. Avoid this place if you want your home to be safe, clean, and treated with urgency when problems arise

Oh, the Grand Lofts. I have spent a lot of time here as a VISITOR. I could romanticize this place…read moreirresponsibly because it has good bones, and I long to see what it could be. This is a place that's grace is in how bad it is. Your ceilings will leak. Your walls will leak. If it rains hard enough water will stream down your walls, and you will wonder if the building will fall down around you. You'll deal with electrical outlets that don't work. Refrigerators or freezers that don't properly cool. Garbage disposals that don't work. Doors that don't close properly or that can easily be opened with cardboard. You'll deal with neighbors who leave their trash in hallways, outside their doors, and all over the grounds. You'll see people who have no concept of sharing and park all over the place with little regard for the quantity of people who live in the complex. And while that is happening, you will camp out on your bed with your choice of bottles and snacks. You will have on layers if the heat isn't working, or you will be almost naked because it's damningly hot. Your windows will probably be fogged up. You will stay in bed dreaming with interesting sky views and sounds of Detroit. You'll watch the rain stream down the windows and the snow fall, and you'll fall in love with the Grand Lofts. You will hear the wood creak, and you will hear the radiators ping. You will hear your neighbors fight and have sex, practice music, and laugh. You will become increasingly agitated or immune to the constant (and roaming) chirp of smoke detectors that need new batteries. There is always at least one chirping. You will constantly smell pot, your own and that of your neighbors. You'll make side deals with the staff and neighbors when your maintenance ticket constantly gets lost. You'll sneak up to the floors that have new windows because they cannot be rented because the elevators don't work. You'll dream about what the building was. What the neighborhood was. Who the neighbors were. You'll roam the streets and learn to love them in all seasons. You'll become a regular at Prince Valley Market and Adi's Coney Island. You'll find hidden away murals, gardens, sculptures. You'll do a lot and dream a lot if you spend enough time at the Grand Lofts, and depending on what you're looking for, it might be the right the place to lay your head when you're in the city, and even if it's not, it'll give you some romance.

They are charging modern, premium rent prices while leaving residents with decaying 1980s and 1990s facilities. I am a resident here, and the list of ongoing issues is completely unacceptable: * Safety Dangers: Buildings 100 and 200 are still running on original, un-updated electrical panels from decades ago, posing a serious fire risk. Furthermore, I was personally injured in the unmaintained sauna due to neglected upkeep, and management has taken zero accountability. * Broken Amenities: The pool is constantly shut down. The hot tub has been broken and leaking for the past five months--it fails to hold heat, and the jets/bubbles do not work at all. * Neglected Gym & Locker Rooms: The fitness center is falling apart. Machine handles have the grips peeling completely off the metal, a broken Smith machine was hauled away and never replaced, and the locker rooms are chronically filthy. * Common Area Decay & Biohazards: The elevators routinely have dog urine and feces left in them. The outdoor patio has heavily stained, unlevel pavement near the grills, crumbling/cracked masonry blocks on the fire pit, and a broken gas starter. Inside Building 200, the common area furniture is worn down and heavily stained. Every single complaint is met with continuous excuses instead of actual progress. It is absolute bullshit to pay premium rates for locked, broken, and hazardous facilities. Save your money and look elsewhere.

It is affiliated with & partially run by Wayne State University. I like the vibe here. It's casual & community oriented. And the diversity of backgrounds & genders represented in it's membership, well, that makes this space stand out from the rest. The building itself is huge and divided into several floors. On the first floor you'll find casual co-working, some dedicated desks and tons of meeting rooms on the 1st floor. There's a large open kitchen and a pantry with fresh food for sale. Ping pong table & popcorn machine are a nice bonus. On 2nd through 5th floors you'll find the various sized private offices of nonprofit orgs, small businesses and larger orgs like the Ford Foundation and Henry Ford Medical. This is the place to run into people who are in business in Detroit, particularly folks at the intersection between academics and business. I am a co-working member, so I see this space primarily as a place to get good Wifi, use the printer and host client meetings, etc. It serves me well and it is a really great price for hot desk co-working. Two complaints: 1. There is an effort to help break the ice & introduce members to each other more often. This is an ongoing struggle, as it can feel very anonymous to work remotely at a co-working space. Right now there's a weekly popcorn & beer mingler on Friday afternoons and a bagel breakfast on Mondays. There's room for improvement in terms of creating real helpful connections between people though. 2. It can get crowded in the middle of the week and on days when a large group books the conference rooms. You'd be surprised how often a group of 40+ people hosts an event here. There's rarely a quiet day on the 1st floor. Overall this is a great space, good community and a nice taste of the Detroit business & nonprofit scene.

I scheduled a move and Sarah accommodated my last minute scheduling. Sarah sent the POWER TEAM of Demetrius and Demetrio, whom I have affectionately nicknamed The DOUBLE D's (LOL). Demetrius and Demetrio arrived slightly early and ready to go to work! I had most of my things already packed in storage containers on wheels and few other things in boxes. Demetrius and Demetrio moved my items from the house to the deck off the backyard onto the truck and they were prepared with all the equipment necessary (ramps, bumper pads, etc) to make the move smooth, efficient and to prevent damage to my things. These two moved so quickly, I was amazed and couldn't pack my remaining things fast enough! They were willing to wait for me to pack or they offered to take my things as is but I had them take what was already packed. We met at my storage unit which on this day was surprisingly packed with people and other moving companies moving in. Demetrius and Demetrio engaged with the other movers and all were respectful to them during our move. Demetrius and Demetrio packed my unit as requested and they packed and stacked EVERYTHING SO VERY NEATLY and with care for my items. EVERYTHING was totally organized! Nothing could have gone any smoother than this move! The price value to book my last minute move was very good for me and I tipped them both as EVERYONE should do with professional movers such as these two. When I returned back to the house, it wasn't until the packed items had been moved that I realized how much MORE packing I still needed to do, so I text Sarah to schedule a FINAL move for 2 days later and I specifically requested Demetrius and Demetrio (The Double D's). Even on such short notice, Sarah made it happen and scheduled me. Again, Demetrius and Demetrio showed up on time even during a rain storm with high winds...ready to work and help me move all my things out. Again, they both setup my items in the house to move quickly during this rain storm and by the time they finished setup, the storm stopped and they moved everything out. I shed tears of HAPPINESS at how clean and empty it was in there when they were done. After they moved those items into storage, I again tipped them both because they were worth it! I am definitely recommending Balance Detroit Moving Company and the POWER TEAM - (The Double D's) Demetrius and Demetrio!!
