I try not to be "that guy." Very rarely review businesses negatively, even when I'm upset, because it's just obviously pointless and makes you look like the asshole. But I had to describe the Kafka-esque clusterfuck that resulted from my visit here. I was told I had a package which my doctor shipped me with medically necessary materials in it picked up and that it would be accessible at this store. I went in, they didn't have it. Said it was still en route to my address (note: there was no estimated delivery for this, the warehouse just kept claiming inclement weather for over a week despite even them admitting there was no longer any reason for weather disruptions). Okay, so why did I get an email saying it was at this location? They couldn't answer me. Told me to call the UPS Customer Service number and it would route me to the warehouse. I called the number. The customer service rep told me he couldn't transfer me to the warehouse and just kept repeating what I already knew from the website, then hung up on me. I told them they were wrong and I couldn't reach the warehouse to ask my question, and the manager just shrugged insolently, like it wasn't his problem. I had to raise my voice to get someone with actual authority to show up, who proceeded to lecture me that we were all on the same side (no, we're not, you just lied to my face about what customer service could do, and clearly don't actually care to solve the problem) and even he couldn't tell me anything that wasn't on the website, though he did manage to get an unconvincing excuse that the package wasn't there because it had been "mis-scanned." Sure. Whatever. I then asked for a refund, since the pickup I requested hadn't actually happened. No offer to help, just told me to file a claim on the website. Okay, can you give me a phone number for the warehouse? No, despite him telling me five minutes ago that customer service would transfer me to them. It was like someone patched his programming to give me the latest bureaucratic non-answer. Look, what bothers me the most about this isn't the gaslighting, though that's irritating, for sure. It's that no one at this store had any idea how to actually resolve the problem, or who I could call to find out how to avoid my package being held hostage at the warehouse. They had no idea how to do anything but parrot back what's on the website. At that point, there's no reason to have customer service people at the store. They're just badly trained AI, who will show contempt for you if you need them to do any work more than repeating standard customer service lines. Maybe they're better for printing, but do not ship here. Do not ask UPS to deliver your packages here. The package may vanish and you'll never know what happened to it, and they'll treat you like the problem for wanting to know what happened to it. read more

Convenient and friendly folks. They could be more efficient but I won't hold that against them as the patrons tend to be the cause of back ups. They don't always open on time, but if they're delayed it's by a minute or five. I go out of my way to spend a decent amount of money here bc I appreciate that they're also here to take Amazon returns. read more

I needed to get a couple of documents notarized at the last minute and they came to the rescue. The notary services were $5 per document and I was in and out in a matter of minutes. The staff was friendly and very helpful. Side note: I tried to get my documents notarized at the bank, but the banks no longer notarizes medical directives or wills. I would not recommend shipping from this location. I dropped off a box on 1/22 with two-day shipping, and it never arrived. Dealing with UPS to figure out what happened has been a nightmare. After escalating the issue due to my persistence, we discovered that the box was checked into the Ballston UPS location, picked up by the driver, but never delivered to the Alexandria facility. UPS believes theft may be involved. Since the $100 compensation offered by UPS doesn't cover the value of the items, I have no choice but to file a small claims case against the franchise. read more

One stop for all the little things you need. Shipping is their bread and butter. Drop off that Amazon return and you're done! The charge for postage and shipping costs is higher than at a Post Office. But they can also do it all for you-- Boxing your item, wrapping, addressing, and you walk out with your tracking info. They also have printing and internet stations. In a pinch you have that online link. And they can Notarize a doc - only $5 ! I've use the address and forwarding service for years and it is GREAT. read more

The woman I talked to recently was just awful. She told me I didn't have the write qr code to return a shoes to zappos. But then processed the shoes returned and didn't tell me she did. We had such a bad encounter that I left with the boxes. I called my wife at work to get another QR code. The woman who worked there asked me to give my phone to her so she can talk to my wife and I was like no, just tell me. But didn't tell me. Its my phone and my business. This woman and everyone in this store needs to have a Retrain everyone in proper customer service procedures. Awful experience. Help them understand that they need to help and ask good questions and help the customer understand. They also need to understand that what the typical post office employee knows is not common knowledge to the public. There needs to be a training regime in which the associate knows it by heart and if they don't they cannot work the front desk FOH. They need to be retrained so that they memorize a script. When the customer walks in, hello how can I help you? Oh you want ____ I can help with that. Or this isn't the location where we do that. I can give you some information about where that can be done, would you like that information? This is a great example of a solutions based method. So you can help people find out what they need, provide it to them and then give them what they want. If you can't find someone who can. Remove all barriers from the employees finding a way to help the customer. The people who work here are mean and just awful. They are just not good at being empathetic and understanding and helpful. They just want you out of there quick. This isn't how things should work. No one should use the UPS stores in and around the Arlington, VA area because they are just awful. If you want to feel depressed and worthless go to a UPS store in arlington because the employees here are just not focused on giving you service. They get stressed because too many people are in line and some metrics are not being met instead of focusing on one customer at a time, one problem at a time, one solution at a time. read more

Last week I visited the store trying to return cable boxes to Verizon. While Verizon made the process very difficult, the employees at UPS Store Ballston made my experience so much better. I have no idea where all these negative reviews are coming from. I have to be in the area often for business and have used this location frequently due to its super convenient location. I run a small ebay business on the side and am usually shipping things every other day, this store is perfect for when I am down in Arlington. The gentlemen who run it are super warm and friendly and always try to help me find the best most economical option, shipping is never going to be cheap and it is worth it for me to avoid the hassle of waiting at the Post Office only to have someone who clearly hates their life serve me with rudeness and apathy. The best part though was I left some pretty important documents behind by accident and they went out of their way to make sure they were returned to me safely (they shipped them to my house for free). I was so panicked and they did everything they could short of driving up to Baltimore to make sure they were returned to me safe and sound. I would highly recommend this UPS store and will use them again in the future. read more

"1.5 stars for a UPS Store? Can't be that bad." I usually don't pay attention to ratings for such mundane places that I need to go to do run an errand (gas station, convenience store, etc.). However, I should have listened to these reviews. I always knew UPS was way overpriced and expensive for printing, but I got an online quote and it was fairly reasonable for my quick turnaround time (less than $8 for 16 color 8.5"x11" prints on regular weight paper). Instead of doing it online, I decided to take my flashdrive to the store assuming it would be more convenient so I could make sure the print job would be printed how I wanted. When I walked into the store, no one greeted me out of the 3 workers standing in the front. I had to ask them what the best method was to get my printing done quickly. One of the workers answered my question, but the way he spoke and acted led me to believe he had no idea what was going on or really did not care. I was left alone to do my printing, which was fine since I knew what I was doing, but there was a customer wandering around the store while the 3 employees just disappeared. I was able to print my 16 sheets successfully, but when I went back to the front desk to checkout, no one was there. One worker was on the phone, but didn't even acknowledge me or motion that he would be a minute and I should wait. Two of the other workers in the back seemed to be talking to a man, not even checking to see if any customers were in the front. I was ignored until I made a noise to indicate someone was in the front and said I needed to checkout. Finally, a different worker besides the one who "helped" me with the printing, came up the front and just looked at me and said something along the lines of, "What do you need?" in a not a friendly manner. I told him I needed to checkout once again and it took awhile for him to realize what that meant. The icing on the cake was when I was rang up and the total came out to be $16.59 (not including the sales tax)!! For only 16 colored prints on regular weigh letter paper! I was extremely shocked and asked the worker how much each print cost, and he replied it was 99 cents per print. Like I said, I knew UPS was more expensive than normal, but that is ridiculous. So I asked the worker why it was so expensive in store when my online quote came out to be less than $8 (and this was with 70lb glossy paper as the option), he said, "I don't look at online prices." He didn't offer to ask the manager (who knows, maybe he was), didn't offer to follow up later, or even seem to care there was such a huge price discrepancy. I'll never go back to UPS for my printing needs, but if I actually received some good customer service, I wouldn't have been as upset. But this experience was just a no. No. Don't go. read more

Was overcharged by $40 to ship a package across the country. Was in a hurry so couldn't debate it that second, but luckily was shipping to another UPS Store who was able to remeasure it upon receipt. Their measurements were in my favor by a few inches. Got in touch with the original store who confirmed that UPS "Central" scanned the package with lasers and got the same numbers as them. I have the package in my hands and can't find where they're finding two extra inches in width. I've shipped many a package on my own and know to round up and use the widest point, but yeah, two inches? That's a large number in the shipping world. And yes, that was the difference between $20 and $60 for my package. Oh well, lesson learned; check Yelp before using any business. Even if my (and the receiving UPS Store's) measurements are off, a knowledgeable salesman should have noted that I was right at the edge of going into the shipping rate of "astronomical" and advised me to repackage. He did not. Ironically, the UPS Store I shipped to is a night and day comparison to this one and I've given them a 5-star review. read more

So I will only use this place if I have a prepaid shipping label. It is very convenient for me as they are open after 5:30pm on the weekdays and in walking distance to my place. As someone else said, it does also carry the standard mailing item supplies so that's a plus as well. If you don't have a prepaid shipping label, definitely do not use them for any USPS mail as it will be much more. It does seem like the UPS and Fedex rates are also higher with this store but I can't be 100% sure. Although they are pricey, the guys there are nice so I give them 2 stars for that and the convenience factor of the location. read more

Really love the new management at this store! Was rushing in as they were closing to send out an urgent package. The register has been shut down, and everything was in closing mode. But the owner/manager was totally cool about it and reopened it just for me. A really thoughtful gesture as I was not eager to trudge through another freezing walk to head over again. I figured that for convenience I'd do it at UPS - how much can they charge, right? WRONG. I got charged for "an hour of computer time" (I spent maybe 2 minutes printing my files from it via flash drive) and 50 cents per page. I had to mail an application to school at the last minute. The school wanted us to use certified mail in case we need to track the delivery status. However, usps hours are ridiculous to work with. I went in here after 7 PM, was able to ship by thr next morning with $35 fee. I got into the program with help from this store :-0 I had no trouble keeping track of package, got there on time without any issues. read more

I needed to return a package to Amazon and wanted a receipt for the drop off (I already had a prepaid label). But, they had already shut down their systems by 4:55 even though the closing time is 5:00, so they couldn't scan my package into the system. Very annoying. I understand if you shut down some registers when it gets near closing time. However, what retail store shuts down all their registers before the store actually closes? The lack of professionalism and overall CONTEMPT from the store owner to whomever he hires to staff the place is well ...just look at the owner responses. Though I like the concept of The UPS Store brand, it is bad experiences like what I and various members of my staff witnessed that make one want to avoid the brand altogether. This store does a disservice to all the other franchise owners out there. As someone who rarely writes reviews, I decided to create a Yelp account and voice my displeasure for this particular business. The pricing has always been questionable and seems to vary depending on the customer (female, minority, foreign) ...yeah I went there. Contempt is the best way to describe interacting with the staff. Collectively from their posture and attitude the staff seem to be put upon that you entered the store to initiate or complete a transaction. Whether it's face-to-face or via telephone one feels like they are dealing with a petulant child sulking because s/he has been asked to finish a chore. So, if you like being treated like an alien (hint hint hint) who has to beg for someone to do his or her job while being a jerk about it and are overcharged for the privilege, then THIS is the store for you. I've been to this UPS store location several times over the past few months and have had zero problems! The employees there have all been knowledgeable of the different methods of shipping, whether I have been returning items through Amazon, shipping game tickets through Stubhub, or mailing paper mail. The parking situation is a little sketchy - I've seen some dude FREAK out over not getting his parking validated by the store - but other than that, very walkable location. read more
