The store owner was very helpful and personable for packing and shipping a package. There was no fee for packing my item - just the cost of the box (about $10)! This was a huge difference in comparison with the Davis Square UPS Store, which wanted to charge me $40 for packing+box, not including UPS shipping costs. The location is not great if you don't have a car, though there are several bus lines that stop there. [EDITED after conversation with owner] According to the owner, as of 2013 this is a fine place to drop off pre-paid UPS packages; I look forward to trying it out! read more

I started going to this location instead of the one downtown because they actually have a parking lot! I tried to go to a different location closer to Cambridge, and it was impossible to park, so I left that location and came here! The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable! Great service! I was in an urgent situation, needed to replace a 300 pg document that didn't arrive for a client and notary appointment scheduled same day (within hrs). I spoke with several similar companies, but Don made the process easy for me and even circumvented the website when I was having difficulty. Working via cell phone from Oregon (vaca) and with limited reception I was able to get the docs there, prepped and ready for the notary to pick up while en route to the appointment. I was also able to pay via phone, which others I spoke with couldn't accommodate. Everything went smoothly once I reached this store. read more

Long story short, I mailed a package in January and wrote down the wrong house number. The package was never delivered and I was never notified. 20 Months later (literally!), they finally got in touch with me and said they opened my package and it "looked important" (it was filled with photo albums I was trying to send for a friend's wedding), so they wanted to contact me before throwing it out. While I'm obviously grateful to the worker for saving my package, it took them almost 2 years to track me down. I thought the package was lost and gone forever. I was just in here on Monday. Right before Christmas. I was sending a bunch of largish framed photo prints, and I didn't have appropriately-sized boxes at home, so figured I'd pay for the packing service. Well, they did a good job, and got them all packed and into that day's UPS ground pick-up which was in only 45 mins! So I appreciate that part. Also, I couldn't remember my brother's address and my phone was dead, so the clerk let me use his computer to look it up in my email. So nice! He also (shh) gave me the AAA discount to bring the cost down 5%. Minus one star for pretty insane pricing, even after the 5% off, but I knew I was going to pay for the convenience. And those boxes did end up being pretty big because of all the padding - but I'd rather no broken glass on the other end so I appreciate the carefulness. It's entirely possible I got the only nice, competent guy that works there, but at least there's one. read more

I know my rating will change soon enough. My mother went there before and had great service! today we went in there trying to send a few things back to my dorm in DC. The woman "taking care" of us, I don't know her name but she was a larger woman, needed a lesson in customer service and transparency. My mom and I were confused on why we had to pay $71 to ship a few things. I will add that I've never done this before but this woman seemed to be frustrated or something that she ended up just walking away. Her tone was a little condescending and really caught me off guard. I asked her if I could pack the things myself and if it would be cheaper and she insisted no and then just kept getting agitated. When she walked away from us, in the middle of us asking question, we just walked out. But again, my mother has expressed about the great service shes received from here but we just couldn't believe this. read more

Update: The owner of the store contacted me and explained the store policies. I'll bump the review one star because of his effort to reach out to me. It shows that he really cares about providing a good service. I went to drop some boxes off at 1:00pm on Saturday March 14th. I brought my own printed labels from Amazon and had not taped the boxes yet. I applied the sticker labels to the box and noticed the toner was smearing. I asked the guy to please put tape on top of the sitckers and he sais "Yes, I'll do it". Then he proceeds to take the boxes off the counter and literally throws them on the corner. I had 3 big boxes. I repeated "Can you please put tape on the labels?" He says with a tone "I'll do it when I finish with all of the customers". Then I say, "well, can you give me the tape and I'll do it?" He says NO! in a very rude and disrespectful manner. I didn't really want to fight at this point. If UPS loses my package because of an unreadable sticker I will hold this guy responsible. He needs to be fired for being disrespectful and unhelpful to customers. Knowing UPS, they won't do such a thing, they are known for its terrible customer service. I hope the franchise manager reads this and takes some action. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about this location of the UPS Store. I have had their help with large, small, awkward, heavy...all kinds of packages. They help me find the most economical option. I also use their printing service for a page or two, here and there. So handy! They always greet me with competent, helpful service. I was there to make a DHL drop off today. They were out of DHL supplies and upon asking why so. The guy responded with extreme rudeness that because DHL is out of the supplies. Reminder to the staff: DHL comes every day to make pick ups at this location just ask for some supplies. The worst UPS store I have visited ever ! How rude and uncooperative. ****Update to comments above. I was told by DHL and its on their website they go to their drop off location on a daily basis Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. Had to ship a fragile box, lately the us postal service has been a better choice with their flat rate prices for shipping. What I needed to ship would not fit in the flat rate box, I also had another package that had a potage paid by ups, so it was decided that I should mail this fragile box with ups. I was happy to have found such a large ups store in the east coast, but unlike some of the other ups stores I had been to I was not greeted or even looked at to tell me i would be helped in a moment. I asked the sales lady if they can access my address book from calif store. I had been told that all I needed was my phone number, she said probably. But continued to get information from me as if I'm not a returning customer. The store smelled of a very bad garlic from the business next door, I needed to be out fast. I asked her to please email me a confirmation of shipment, she said no problem but never did. She range me up wrong and had to redo. All she was interested was to keep repeating herself that they do print and make wonderful business cards. Even though I had informed her when I first arrived that I had done business with ups stores ever since they first opened and knew all the services that they offered. I wanted to stay polite and don't shout at her that I would not trade vista prints high quality printing and prices for ups stores over priced printing. I don't know why they just don't stick to what they are good at and just be a shipping carrier! The shipping is fine, prices are fine, and the man I have dealt with a few time was super friendly and helpful to me. The problem is, each time I have been there, he has spoken SUPER rudely to his female co worker. He belittles what she says and mocks her, and she is timid and says Im sorry, and you can just see her being crushed by his verbal abuse. It makes me so uncomfortable and angry, I am seriously considering going in and talking to him about it, but Im afraid that might make it worse for her. The man is a fucking asshole. Have been there several times since, and the staff have always been friendly and very helpful. Had to ship Christmas packages out today - to New York and Korea - and the gentleman behind the counter was helpful, and stayed past closing without complaint to finish up. read more

I use this store on a regular basis, I've been meaning to write this review for a while. I usually print resumes, make copies, and send faxes through them. I just learned that they print photos on a printer way better than mine, (and even wall decals). The people who work there are so nice. They are very helpful and friendly. They also print posters which I am totally into. I like picking my own images and changing them regularly. They also have a service for accepting packages, you can order what you need to be delivered to the store- way more secure than leaving it on the front porch. I live in Somerville and packages disappearing off porches has been an issue. UPS stores are independently owned and operated. That means they have a lot of control over what they offer and store policies; at this location they obviously care about the community. They offer prepaid copy cards and packages that give discounts for larger orders which supports independent businesses and start-ups :). Another big bonus for me is Carol. She's a manager at the store and is totally efficient and handles long lines without wasting anyone's time, which I totally appreciate. She knows everything you can ask about printing and shipping. What really impresses me about Carol is that she made up a handout about how to get rid of junk mail with specific instructions about how to deal with each category. I did not know that there are five different categories of junk mail and a method to eliminate each one. I've been meaning to search around on the internet for this information, but she totally did it for me (and everyone). She didn't need to do that. I wish I could share the information on yelp, but I don't think there's a way to do it. Stop by and pick up a handout if you want. I shipped 900 pounds of 13 years living back East. Meritza helped me far and beyond. I needed help carrying, taping (tape was just not sticking due to weather and I was freaking out about shipping explosions), packing advice, UPS intel ...reinforcing ALL my packages. I was very defensive at first assuming I'd get an attitude because of having 26 large boxes that were unfinished (this is what happens being a southern Californian scarred from NYC for 10 years but also so many business employees in Boston are just rude with no sense of humor). Amazing help. I almost had a panic attack at the printing computer but that was my fault for not remembering 3 of my email passwords. My friend also ships there frequently and I ran into her in the parking lot. She said this UPS store is the best in Boston and I don't think the process would have been any smoother else where. I sent a family heirloom (an Irish Beeleek Teapot set) to my niece in San Diego for her wedding present. The package arrived damaged. I had insured it (the teapot of damaged, but the cups and saucers were not). I did not realize that the "UPS Store" is not "UPS" --they only ship via UPS. When I went to claim the insurance, I was told that making a claim to UPS would require evidence of the damaged packaging. Unfortunately, my niece and her new husband received many wedding presents and had already recycled the packaging, so UPS would not give me the insurance (this, by the way, was never made clear, either when I insured, or on the packaging--so, I am no longer a fan of UPS!) When I found a comparable teapot (no longer, an "heirloom" but an exact replica), Don the UPS Store owner, offered to re-imburse me for what the insurance would have covered ($210). I thought this was very generous and customer friendly. I will write UPS about the lack of information re: what is necessary to recover insurance. read more

This UPS store has lost my drop-off packages that I've handed directly to an employee twice! In both instances, the tracking numbers for my packages were never scanned according to the UPS site, but I had handed the packages over to UPS employees behind the counter. I don't know what this particular store did with them, so I can't say if they were stolen by an employee who purposely did not scan my package, stolen by a driver who noticed a package was never scanned before, or not reliably taken care of by the store. Whatever the case may be, the store does not appear to have sufficient security, since packages just go missing from there. The first time I came here a few years ago, they told me they did not give receipts for dropping off labeled packages for shipping. I thought it was strange because every other UPS store (any every other carrier) I've gone to has always provided them, but I did not want to go to another store at the time. When I checked on my package days later, the tracking information still claimed that it was waiting to be received by UPS. They claimed to not be able to do anything about it so my package was just lost and I went to alternate carriers or UPS stores. I started going back again this past year and asked about receipts, and the person said they've always given receipts. That person must have been new and did not know what they were talking about because I was able to confirm afterwards via the owner that they did not give receipts back then. Knowing that they do give receipts, I continued to use this particular store again and ask for receipts every time as a precaution, and all was well for about a year, until a few weeks ago. I got the receipt, but I was careless and didn't notice that one of the two tracking numbers on the receipt was actually not for either of the two packages I dropped off. I checked the unknown tracking number and it is somehow for a package delivered over a year ago! I'm not sure if the employees are somehow allowed to override the machine to print different tracking numbers, but it's a little suspicious. It's not a surprise that the package that does not have its tracking number on the receipt is once again, still supposedly waiting to be picked up by UPS. Even if they forgot to scan the package in the store, I would think that the delivery drivers would be able to update the status from scanning it, so it appears the package was either misplaced or stolen. I'd advise anyone using this store to make sure you get a receipt and verify that the receipt actually matches what you dropped off! Additionally, if you have a smartphone, maybe make sure the tracking information is updated as well before you leave the store, assuming the updates actually post immediately (I'm not sure it they do. If not, that's unfortunate). While the vast majority of packages should be fine since no business would ever want to be in trouble, you'll regret not taking extra care the day you lose an extra valuable package, regardless of insurance or not since the store can claim not to have received anything with no receipt or an incorrectly printed receipt. read more

Extremely rude and unhelpful service!! I came into this ups store with a prepaid return label i had printed out and a small little box i needed to send out. The older guy working there could not have been ruder to me. First no hello or greeting he just stares at me like want am i doing in here. I put my box on counter with my shipping label saying that I need to send this out via UPS return services. He then looks at me like I have 3 heads and says "well its just going to go right back to this address" in a rude tone. So I'm like well yeah that's where it's going... It says on the instructions to put the label into a plastic sleeve. So I ask him about that and then He continues to act rude like i'm bothering him. Then he says "we don't have those because we aren't owned by UPS blah blah blah", proceeds to talk down to me some more. So I asked how should I affix the label on the box? He then pulls out a plastic sleeve and says I'm just going to have to put it in this acting annoyed. So I'm like ok it's a plastic sleeve so is it ok? He says "Yeah your not the first person to come in here and do this" again in a rude and condensing tone. I'm thinking to myself Wow all i need to do is have this package shipped out by UPS why is this guy making it such a painful experience for me! So the I ask if its all set he says yes. I say ok thanks he says nothing no thank you, no have a nice day no nothing. Wow i guess that went right with his sour greeting when I came in. After I left I realized I,didn't get any type of receipt or tracking info. So I go back in (reluctantly of course) and ask for a receipt for it. He then says "well if you would've asked me before now its closed out I can't get it" once again in his condensing, rude tone. Wow what a piece of work this guy was. Piece of crap actually. This store made me feel so uncomfortable and angry by he way I was treated that I needed to wrote this review about it. Unreal. Left a really bad taste in my mouth about the UPS store. I should've ripped this guy a new one working there, but I didn't want my package to end up in Zimbabwe or in the trash. BEWARE THIS UPS STORE!!! read more

here's the story... i went into the store with the intention of shipping an acoustic guitar that i had packed myself REALLY well in a factory made guitar box - the kind with staples, heavy duty tape etc (it was packed well, i ship items all the time). While I'm trying to find my destination address on my phone, another customer comes in and i over hear the young women behind the counter tell the lady that she cant ship her item in her box because IT HAD AN OLD SHIPPING LABEL ON IT!? I'm like, "shoot" mine has an old label on it too so i rip it off, and ready myself for a difficult interaction. I find the address and she puts the box up on the scale. Oh, she also tells me that she wont be able to insure it the package because i didn't use their packing services... ok, puts in the zip code in and tells me its gonna cost $76! I'm thinking this cant be rite it should be like 30 bucks ups ground. (total weight less than 15lbs) So i ask if there's a cheaper way to send it, and SHE ASKS if its going to a commercial address, i say yes to hear the difference in price, she says something like $71. She tells me that's what its gonna cost to ship it. WHAT!? Come on! this store tries WAY to hard, and with the wrong attitude to "up the ticket" I told her sorry to have wasted her time, and bid her a good day. She didnt say a word. I left. So two customers walked out in twenty minutes. Way to go UPS store on somerville ave! I went to ups.com and calculated the cost my self, and i was rite, $24! im going directly to UPS tomorrow, and ill be avoiding these rip-off UPS contracted stores in the future. read more

Tim and Carol went above and beyond today, which I really appreciated. Tim was extremely helpful on the phone, taking the time to walk with me through the project I wanted to do and explaining my options. I emailed my image in, asking for it to be printed on a poster ASAP. Then I got distracted with chores and stopped paying attention to my email. When I didn't respond or come to pick the poster up, Carol called. As closing time neared, knowing that I really wanted to get my poster today (and they would be closed tomorrow), they called AGAIN, and sent another email. I missed both calls and didn't even notice that I had messages (ENTIRELY my fault), and it never occurred to me to ask how long they'd be open. Carol even offered in a message to stick around a little bit if I asked her to, so I could come in. When I finally called back (after they had closed) I got their answering system, so I jumped in the car just in case they might still be there. Both Tim and Carol were still there, closing up and very kindly opened up to let me pick up my poster. Two extra wins: The quoted price was a bit more than the actual price (which is always nice!) and Carol had taken the time to erase the background of my image, because she knew that I planned to cut it out. Saved ink, and went the extra mile without being asked! All in all, both of them were extremely kind, more helpful than could ever be expected, and turned around a last minute request within a couple of quick hours. Also, I'd been in the store twice before that day and Carol was super nice both of those times too! read more

I'd like to write a response to Tonya T's comment regarding her taping experience at The UPS Store: I'm sorry to hear that you no longer choose to visit this store. I can understand that from your point of view this doesn't make any sense at all, to be charged for a small piece of tape. But you are only one of the many many customers that walk in the store each and every day with a bag or box that is not taped, and each customer expects the store to tape their package as a courtesy (whether it be a small piece of tape or several pieces). So if anywhere from 20-30 customers each day...or more...walk in the store without their package taped, that means the store is paying (out of pocket) for this to be a courtesy for their customers. UPS does not provide the stores with supplies for FREE, the store must PAY for almost every supply (including tape) that they need to run their business. And if it were only one customer, every once in a while, it would not be as costly, as 30 or more each day, that expect the taping to be free of charge. The UPS Stores are known for their exceptional customer service (although there can always a few here and there that may tarnish that reputation) but I don't feel this should be viewed as bad customer service. If tape were FREE to the store owner they'd be more than happy to pass this on as a courtesy to their customers. An important point is...those who bring untaped packages are "UPS" customers not "UPS Store" customers, which most of the public is unaware of the difference. Although UPS is the corporation owning this franchise, each store is individually owned and operated. And the packages coming in that are PREPAID (already containing a shipping label) prior to entering the store, are paying UPS directly for this service. The UPS store does not receive anything on these shipments. They only receive a very minor fee for accepting each package. And this fee, believe me when I tell you, could not feed a family. So the Stores struggle with this issue. But no one on the outside understands how this affects their bottom line. I cannot vouch for how high the price of a roll of tape "for sale" is/or should be, and maybe it was overpriced, but that would be a separate issue from the concern you have over the service you received overall. I sincerely hope you reconsider your feelings on this topic. Thank you. read more

These people charged me a dollar for a 6 inch piece of tape when I was in returning 2 packages to zappos. It was one piece of tape.

I am currently upset with UPS. I ordered my son a quilt set, the box came back dilapidated and the sheets were missing, so I had to return that which I had to go to the Post office to do that (they are far better then U.P.S I tried to re-tape it etc to no avail they wouldn't except it anyways.I had to buy a new box. Ok so today my sons other Christmas gift came in. The box is scratched so bad and torn open, also the sides are mushed. I might add this is a Sony Stereo system for his bedroom, and now I have to take it out of the box and check it to make sure there is no damage. Seriously U.P.S does the phrase "Handle with Care" or "Fragile" mean anything to you. How about Respect. Or the fact your making 25.00 hr to kick peoples packages around. Look I get it long day heavy lifting. Please have respect for peoples stuff. I don't think I will personally use them for my packages. I don't find them to be trust worthy. read more
