Complaint: unprofessional, unqualified notary services Result: Because of the multiple inconveniences and dishonesty, we are submitting our experience to UPS corporate and the State Department for Notary Licensing. (If you want details) Story: Our party is temporarily in Connecticut to take care of a family estate. We needed a notary for some power of attorney paperwork and have always appreciated UPS fast, convenient services around the country. We called the day before to ask about notary, they told us the hours of availability, and we came at the appropriate time. Of our party of five, we have the elderly person in question, the family member who is a notary for another state but not licensed in Conn, and two other family members who requested off from work to witness, and an ASL interpreter for one of the participants. (Emphasizing, effort went into this appointment) When we asked for notary services, a man came out of the back of the store, told us that his license was limited and he could not do power of attorney documents, recommended banks or town halls (it's a Saturday) l, and then disappeared again to the back of the store. Here are the problems. 1) The papers were printed and made ready for Southington, and any other place we could find required the paperwork to be reprinted for the individual area. 2) None of us had ever heard of this problem so we spent the next 30 minutes on our phones and calling family members who were notaries to find out that there is no such thing as a limited notary license. Conn Law: the notary has the right to refuse service for reasonable things, but it is misconduct to lie about your licensure. Furthermore I think everyone can agree that it's just bad practice. We agreed that even though we had caught the lie, this is not a person we would want to work with anyway. The part we don't understand is why he lied to avoid notarizing our power of attorney paperwork. 1)He did have an extremely thick, almost unintelligible accent, so maybe his understanding of written English isn't proficient enough to properly manage a document like this (in which his licensure needs to be removed). 2)Maybe he didn't want to deal with notarizing that day. 3)Perhaps he was intimidated by the presence of ASL and an interpreter and decided that our business wasn't worth the confusion. 4)Even more concerning, we were informed that this notary is actually the owner of the store, and perhaps gained the licensure as a ways to be compliant with UPS office standards, but not actually offer the service. While this is all speculation, it doesn't erase the fact that this inconvenience means a lot more work for us, reprinting paperwork, finding a different notary, hiring the interpreter again, and bringing together family members from 4 different parts of Connecticut at the same time another date. We went to a different UPS later that day to consult with the notary there, who confirmed that his answer was not correct and helped us submit a complaint to UPS corporate. They also made an appointment with us next week, so hopefully this can all be sorted out smoothly, albeit delayed. read more

So I decided to use UPS to ship a overnight pkg. it gets misrouted at the terminal and then stays there for 25 1-/2 hours. I called UPS and was told what happened. I asked for a refund since it was their fault. Lady on the phone said let it arrive and then go to the store since it's a franchise for your refund Owner doesn't understand how he is in business and losses do happen. Worst customer service I've seen in a long time. 1. Their mask sign does NOT say they require masks. Since I'm vaccinated, I walked in without one and got yelled at by the assistant manager. 2. There was a line and it's raining out, so people were coming in. Again the assistant manager started yelling that, "No more than six people allowed in at once", and made people leave the store. (I watched some just drive away). 3. Then she refused to ship my item even though I had a letter from the UPS Area Manager stating that these items are acceptable. She refused to even read the letter. 4. UPS is now coming to my house to pickup the package, but I will never go back to that store for any reason. read more

My Mom and I went here on Saturday (3/31) to ship an item back to one of the shopping networks that she had bought. The guy behind the counter said he'd tape the box shut and put the return label on it. Last night our regular UPS guy rang our doorbell. He had the package my Mom was sending back to the shopping channel. Somehow the clueless guy at The UPS Store screwed up. Usually I have a decent experience going here. Nothing stellar, never exceptional customer service, but I get done what I need. Today I came and was treated so rudely for literally no reason. It never fails to astound me how terrible people can be. You work in customer service, how about you be professional, explanatory, and kind when working with your customers who have questions and have never done something before? It's ridiculous. As someone who works with people for a living and gets threatened and called names and yet still treats these people better than these UPS store girls did, I'm appalled. Went in to ship a piece of clothing and to print the shipping label for it. They charged me for printing the label but failed to mention prior to that that they ran out of packaging for what i was shipping. So basically i got overcharged for printing a piece of paper and they wouldnt even ship my item. Previous experiences ive had there also include them seemingly adding fee after fee and leaving you feeling like they price gouged. Employees were also pretty rude. Never going back. read more

If you'd like to feel completely uncomfortable while shipping or getting something notarized during this COVID pandemic, this is the place for you! The person that notarized my document was kind and was wearing a mask properly but the woman behind the counter had the biggest attitude problem and was constantly sighing with a mask that filters air out (meaning all her germs go in the air) and wasn't even wearing her mask over her nose. I tried to get out my own pen to sign the papers she put in front of me at one point but felt so rushed I used the one she provided. Every little thing she did required a big sigh filled with frustration, especially when she had to type my name into the system. The person that notarized had to walk her through everything. She asked for my license to type my name and managed to butcher my last name. When I noticed and asked about it, she told me it was fine but I felt uneasy. The docs I was sending were super important and originals so if they don't go to the right place/ can't get my name, I'm screwed. I paid almost $20 for a notary and to ship 3 pieces of paper; the least she could do was spell my name right. I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible as I felt completely uncomfortable at this point and she wasn't going to help. I called in the parking lot to try and talk to the manager because I was super frustrated with how she was treating me and probably everyone else walking in and I just didn't feel comfortable around her. She answered when I called. When I asked to speak to the manager, she said that she was the manager and she knew I was calling. I think a manager would know how to do their job? I asked, " you are the manager?" No, it was the other guy and he is to "call me back". If you plan to work in a customer service role, at least pretend to be a nice person and treat the people that walk in with patience and respect. And please, it really isn't hard to wear a mask properly/ choose one that keeps you and everyone around you safe. In that store you are literally one foot apart from one another and there is no way around it. I also doubt they satanize the pens for electronic signatures/ regular pens between each person let alone on any given day. They didn't even have any sanitizer in I could see. Not planning on going to this UPS again. UPDATE: I called again today and talked to someone named Jacob. He really tried his best to remedy the situation so I appreciated that. He looked up my order (it already shipped) and listened to my concerns/ said he would do his best to voice my concerns to the employee I dealt with. He said she was new but I still think that no one should treat customers the way she did. It also makes me weary to find out the person that notarized my document was the owner and did nothing about her behavior nor did he ask her to fix her mask at any point. Absolutely horrible customer service. They charged me $20 to fax papers to unemployment and then refused to refund me even though it didn't go through (it was not legible). Ok so I ship items I sell fairly frequently and have used this ups store often to ship, I've always used random boxes I've had lying around to ship and never had a problem. Today I packaged an item in a sturdy shoebox, taped well- - I thought. Lady clerk at Ups store said it wasn't a "certified" shipping box and could not be used- ok I get it , I can understand that that, so I said I'd get a different box and be back. I go get a box, strong cardboard just a regular box- perfectly shippable- nope not according to Ms.Box inspector who examined my box like it was the ark of the covenant- still not a certified shipping box and and offered to let me purchase one of their certified shipping boxes, uh no thanks, so I run to the Walmart across the street and get a frickin bubble mailer envelope and lo and behold that's acceptable but a good strong box wasn't, I will never use this store again , fed ex never had a problem with my boxes I'm using fed ex only from now on read more

TERRIBLE - had my client go here to sign and notarize a contract. they told me over the phone that i could give them my credit card info remotely so that my client didn't need to pay out of pocket. After my client got there they changed their tune and said they only accept payment physically in the store. Client didn't have cash on him so I had to send him to a different UPS store. They were rude and unapologetic. read more

I witnessed compassion and commendable professionalism at this UPS store from each of two employees yesterday. One patiently helped an elderly women with some dementia into the store with two large, heavy boxes - this client then couldn't recall any of her phone numbers (required to send pkg). Store clerk very respectfully and patiently assisted this client with multiple issues and the UPS return was successfully completed. The 2nd clerk helping me, despite several other clients waiting briefly in line after me, offered a quick repackaging tip to save me a few dollars when I was surprised at the price of the very small and light item I was sending. (I had over-packaged my item.) My clerk didn't need to take the extra steps to do this, but she very kindly did. Wonderful staff - so nice to see. They inspired "goodness". : ) read more

This location needs a seperate line for the "entitled and the dumb!" The staff did the best they could under the circumstances. The lines were long, the same customer kept calling the store every two minutes, and the customers were difficult. I was returning textbooks and did everything ahead of time. All I needed was a receipt. I waited 35 minutes because one person DID NOT WRAP/PACKAGE THEIR STUFF BEFORE GOING TO UPS, and another had no concept of reality (she was appalled at the idea that insuring your packages is an extra fee, along with an expedited shipping being an additional charge). The customers made it way more difficult than it had to be, and held up the line for everyone else. Google reviews had the same complaints. The staff kept their cool and worked as fast as they could, but I will not be returning anytime soon unless the customers grow a few brain cells. I paid $90 to send a package overnight to my son. The package contained prescription medication that is extremely time sensitive - not to mention expensive. It was scheduled to be delivered this morning. It's now 5pm and no one can tell me where the package is. The UPS store doesn't have any indication that it ever left their store - it was never scanned. The employees in the store were nice enough, but don't know how to help. The owner of this franchise refuses to speak w/me or get involved to help her employees track down my package. I suspect it was stolen because I told them it contained medication - even though it's of no use recreationally. I asked the owner to review her security footage & she refused. DO NOT TRUST THIS STORE WITH ANY PACKAGE YOU CARE ABOUT. I see the owner responds to reviews here. This may be the only way to get a response. I would prefer to deal with businesses that are responsive and provide good customer service even when no one's watching. read more
