    THIS is real customer service! Knowing that I was going to ship expensive gear from my late…read morefriend's estate to my work place, by a specific date to avoid getting lost over the Memorial Day weekend, I called this business ahead of my trip to Baraboo to get all the details I could about what services they could provide. The man on the phone explained that they could do all the packaging and get my shipment to California on Friday if I could bring the lot to them before 4pm Monday. I showed up with a 91lb flight case, a heavy speaker cabinet, two expensive guitars, a bare amplifier chassis, a heavy-duty steel amp stand and a glass sculpture that I put into a gallon paint can full of foam beads. Ben Robertson was alone that day, but he broke down the costs, gave me a reasonable estimate and a promise that the whole pile would ship before the end of business that day. He asked all the right questions, too, and improved the guitar packing inside the cases before boxing them. When he completed the packaging, by 1pm(!), he sent me the invoice via email and I paid by credit card over the phone. No hassles, no compromises, and no excuses! Better still, the shipment was en route to the distribution center early the next day If you live in the Baraboo WI area, trust Mailboxes Pack N Ship and owner Ben Robertson and his assistant to handle your shipping needs. I ship a lot of expensive, fragile, custom-built science equipment and I rely heavily on my logistics people at Caltech to make sure all goes well. Mailboxes Pack N Ship provides THAT level of service!

    I went into this UPS Store yesterday needing to return a large package and immediately said, "I've…read morenever done this before, what is the process?" I was greeted when I walked in, but after that the experience felt surprisingly unhelpful. I had to go back out to my car to carry in a very large, awkward, heavy package by myself. There were no carts available, no offer to help, and nobody even held the door open while I was visibly struggling to carry it. I actually ended up with bruises on my wrists afterward from trying to maneuver it inside. I was then told they could print my return label for $2, only to later tell me it was actually a FedEx label and I would need to take the package elsewhere. Which is fine. But Again, while carrying the same heavy package back out, no one offered assistance or even held the door again. What stood out most was how different the experience was when I went to FedEx afterward. I was greeted kindly, walked through the process without feeling stupid for asking questions, there were carts available to help customers bring in packages, and they printed the return label for free. AND, he held the door open for me while I was carting in my large package!! I understand employees may not always be able to physically assist customers, but basic customer service and situational awareness go a long way. As someone completely unfamiliar with the return process, the interaction left me feeling unsupported and honestly embarrassed for asking what I thought was a simple question.
