This review is based solely on the nostalgic Lanzi's "Cashew Nut & Rice Crunch" that I ordered from The Uptown Shop! Back in the 70's & 80's, my parents always used to buy these & we loved them! Then suddenly, they just disappeared from store shelves. Well, many years later, Lanzi's is BACK!!!! You can order them from the Uptown Shop. I just got a box in the mail. Flavor-wise it's REALLY CLOSE to the original (they had to reverse-engineer it because the recipe was lost after Elmo Lanzi passed on & production of the candy stopped). But man, it is pretty darn close & still tastes DELICIOUS!!!! read more

The items here a beautiful, and there is a good variety. I want to support local, but the staff is not very friendly. I walked in, said hello, and whether the lady heard me or not, she saw me but didn't say hello. I walked around the store to look around, and another staff member walked right behind me, but didn't say hello. As a customer, that did not make me feel welcome. I am hesitant to go back. I will support local but not at the cost of bad costumer service. read more

FANTASTIC STORE! I was looking for a wedding ring for my fiancé found exactly what I was looking for. The ladies are so sweet! They took their time and showed me around the store. They greeted every customer that came through the doors. I definitely will be coming back. Their charms are so pretty, and a lot cheaper than Pandora. Thanks Sheri for your wonderful service!! As others surmise, this is one of those moldy oldie places on the outside, yet chock full of gift ideas, accessories, cool things to dress up one's home, comfort items, lots of pampering stuff, baubles, bowls, trays, Chicago relics, candles, super cute clothes - just so much, I could shop there for hours and have to narrow down purchases so I don't buy out the store. What's nice is the jewelry they sell is good quality, with some sterling silver, yet they're not in competition with Cottage Hill Diamonds next door, for that ultra in serious bling! I know some shoppers are sick and tired of the trail of Vera Bradley...but I must say the store is filled with so much of other delights, there's no reason to have to resort to looking at the VB stuff. No reason whatsoever. They have some Eucalyptus Spa booties I need to come back for asap! read more

Fun shop. They really do have a little of everything -- it sort of looks like a stuffy old lady shop from the outside, but I went in anyway and was pleasantly surprised. They had some cute purses and clothes, funky jewelry, random assorted giftyness... I bought a lovely soft cashmere scarf for a friend for a steal. I will say, though, that I wish they didn't have so danged much Vera Bradley. It all reminds me of 60-year-old tourist women. I am in love with this store! Been shopping here for 3 years now. Nice it is on the way home from work! But I do find myself here on Saturdays. The staff is so sweet and friendly. Always have great gift ideas! I love how every time I am in there things are fresh and moved around and new things are out. If they are out of something, it is great to know that they have two other local stores to check stock with. The Western Springs store is quaint with the hardwood floors. I love the sound of the old hardwood. The newest store is in Oakbrook Mall (where the Swatch store use to be) It is an ideal location! They are a jewelry boutique. The silver they have from Metalsmiths 925 is the most amazing silver and the stones they use are top quality! So hard to choose and I have taken a few things home so far. All the stores have the amazing line of Trollbeads - the original modern charm bead bracelet out of Denmark. I have been collecting for over 3 years now. The staff is well versed on the Trollbeads. The new store in Oakbrook has other bead lines like the Chamilia, Lovelinks, Celtic silver/enamel beads and some crazy fun land mark beads. And me the Trollbead lover that I am... I am very fond of the Lori Bonn line - the slide bracelet charms are amazing. If I ever take off my Trollbeads I would be wearing this for sure! You have to check out one of these stores! read more

This is a shoppers dream. It is very eclectic! They have a little of everything. This is a great place for someone who is looking for inspiration on design or are hoping to add that special touch to their home. This Is also a great place to go and find a gift for your Mom, aunt, Grandma, or one of your Girl friends....or if you are looking for a gift for a new baby or young child (human or animal). I bought a great doggie sweater and treats for my parents dog Finnegan- I think they liked it more than he did). Their antiques are so well restored, you find yourself looking at the pieces wondering if they are antiques or "retro inspired". My Husband is like Seinfeld...he LOVES CEREAL, we have a cupboard that is a shrine to the Cereal industry. Since he is such a cereal fan, for Christmas I bought him a set of "retro inspired" Kellogg's Cereal Bowls (they had the old Tony the Tiger character and Snap, Crackle and Pop painted on the bowls)! If you are big on entertaining, you will love looking through their collection of festive entertainment home decor. . Be sure to check out the "The Uptown Girl Boutique" they carry beautiful scarves, hats, sweaters, slippers etc. This place is fun just to look through. They also sell artwork from local artists! Lots of costume jewelry, beads and Vera Bradley. May find a few eclectic things, but most things are overpriced in my opinion. A couple of items I saw at full retail price could be had anywhere else cheaper. Looked at a couple of pillar candle holders, but after looking at them closer, they were definitely used and I couldn't find anything indicating such. I did purchase a few Vera Bradley small items on sale, which were gifts and a pretty good deal. I asked if I could have their small black/white paper bags for them, but the salesperson informed me she couldn't give me THOSE bags on SALE items because they pay soooo much for them. LOL, find a new supplier. It really seems some of these reviews are written by the owners. No way is this a shoppers dream store. read more

The Uptown Shop is a cute little store in downtown Elmhurst that sells gift items as well as some antique furniture pieces. I always enjoying popping in here each year during the Girlfriend's Night Out event that Elmhurst puts on. The store is a good size and has a few different sections. Up front is a jewelry case and an extensive Vera Bradley offering. There are also clothing items sprinkled throughout. They also carry candles and spa type lotions and oils. It is always fun to see the type of decorations that they have for the holidays. My favorite part of the store though is the very back room. There are always odd and end type things back here (as well as a small clearance section). I bought the most beautiful arm chair here for a really reasonable price. I was also able to negotiate with them a bit so I feel that I got a fair price. read more

Awful customer service when I went in. Just wanted to buy something for my grandmother and everything was just tacky and cheap. No one tried to help me, and tried to grab the managers attention. Cluttered shop, soiled carpeting, the review that stated it is an old woman's shop was 100% correct. Way too much Vera Bradley and too much bric a brac cluttered everywhere. Sales people let you browse without hassle which was nice but I couldn't really enjoy the experience in that environment. There was no flow to the store. It almost seemed like a thrift store without the benefit of thrift store prices. I like shopping small shops so I will probably give it another chance but for right now I think they need to brighten things up a bit and get rid of the old carpeting. Maybe less Vera as the other reviewer said. There are a lot of other handbags that might suit younger shoppers more. read more

I went into one of my favorite stores as I usually do, but on this particular Wednesday, I was shocked to witness this in a neighborhood store. I noticed this young pregnant mom with her little girl, about 3 years old. What really caught my attention was how well behaved this little girl was. I actually thought my 3 year old granddaughter would have not been so behaved with so many fragile things in arms reach. This little girl said she needed to go potty, and as most of us know, when a three year old needs to go potty, it's NOW! This young mom proceeded to ask the sales clerk in a very polite way if there was a restroom she can use. This heartless, obviously not a mom, said NOT FOR PUBLIC USE! Told her to go to the Mexican restaurant around the corner!!! Shame on her!!! A three year old needs to go potty not some random person off the street. I hope this Mom never steps foot in this store again cause I can assure you I never will and make sure I spread the word to everyone I know. I put everything down that I wanted to purchase as I watched this stressed Mom run out of the store. Hope they made it to a compassionate vendor in town. Your store doesn't event deserve one star!!! read more
