The Sports Illustrated on Location Swimsuit Event was attended by Supermodels like Paulina Porizkova, Tyra Banks, Barbara Palvin, Anna de Paula, Hailey Clauson, Kate Bock, Lais Ribeiro, Samantha Hoopes, and a lot more like MMA fighter Paige Vanzant It was a fun event hosted by the Ice Palace Films Studios. Last year I went to see "Beyond Van Gogh," and this past Friday, my friends and I went to see "Beyond Monet." It happened to be opening night and they conducted themselves splendidly. We went to the 7:30 PM showing in the middle of a downpour. We were afraid we'd make it late, but we arrived just on time. We ended up doing valet this time around as it was more convenient. Valet was $20, and heads' up, the entrance is the first one, not the second. We had an oops, but even then, the man who was the valet was nothing but kind to us with our mistake. For "Beyond Monet," the show was on the opposite side as it was for "Beyond Van Gogh." It seems that aside from "Beyond Monet," they're also playing a second show called "The Art of Banksy." Pretty cool that they have two shows running at once. Anyway, they're STILL following proper protocol for COVID-19, and they've made the ticketing process even easier than before. Last time it was two individual tickets for my Apple wallet, and this time it was three individual tickets on one QR code for my Apple wallet. Given that this is downtown, well, this almost merits a five-star review from me. Keyword here being almost. If they somehow lowered the valet parking rate, well, that would just about do it.

There are plenty of tables, comfortable lounge areas, a full bar, a grill, cabanas, a pool, and even additional lounge space to spread out and relax. What surprised me most was that it was not overly busy for a Saturday night, which made for a more laid back experience. My bartender, whose name I unfortunately forgot, was excellent. She was sweet, personable, friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout the evening. We only stopped in for drinks. I ordered the Bourbon Night, made with Bulleit Bourbon, raspberry, peach, orange bitters, and rosemary. It was flavorful, balanced, and definitely had a solid bourbon kick. My friend ordered the Paloma, which comes with tequila, grapefruit, lime, and grapefruit soda. He later switched to a vodka version and enjoyed that one even more. Overall, we had a great time. The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was excellent, and the venue offers much more than just drinks. If you are looking for a rooftop spot in Wynwood that is comfortable, clean, and not overly crowded, this is worth checking out. I would absolutely come back, and after seeing the property, I would even consider staying at the hotel on a future trip.

Unfortunately, when we arrived, the rooftop was completely closed. The chairs were still up, there was no bartender, and no staff members were present. We called to let someone know we had arrived and were told to wait a few minutes because the team was wrapping up breakfast service downstairs in the lobby. We waited approximately 30 minutes and called again because no one had come to take our order or provide any update. After our second call, we were told that someone would come speak with us. Kayla then came up to the rooftop and sincerely apologized for the situation. She explained that the restaurant was severely understaffed after three employees had recently quit, and the remaining team members were doing the best they could while covering multiple roles. Kayla suggested that we place our order downstairs and assured us she would personally bring our food up to the rooftop. We ordered burgers, and while we waited, she kindly provided complimentary drinks. Throughout the entire experience, Kayla was professional, attentive, and extremely gracious. She handled a difficult situation with a positive attitude and made us feel valued as guests. It was clear that the issue was not with Kayla or the staff who showed up that day. In fact, there were only three people working brunch: Kayla, the chef, and the waiter. Considering the circumstances, they did an incredible job. Kayla truly made the best of a bad situation and deserves recognition for her efforts. My disappointment is with management's handling of reservations. If the rooftop was not ready to receive customers at opening, reservations should not have been accepted, or guests should have been notified in advance. We drove all the way from Tampa to visit Elevar, and it was frustrating to arrive on time for our reservation only to find the venue unavailable and have to wait for service to begin. That said, the rooftop is a really cute spot with a great atmosphere, and there was plenty of convenient street parking. Because of Kayla's outstanding service and the effort made by the small team working that day, we would absolutely return. We just hope management takes steps to ensure guests are properly informed in the future and that staffing issues do not impact the customer experience the way they did during our visit. Kayla was fantastic. The situation was not. She turned what could have been a completely negative experience into one that still left us wanting to come back.

She showed me the beautiful Tea Room and encouraged me to bring my friends and sister over to enjoy it. That ended up being the highlight of our night. The views, atmosphere, and hospitality completely changed the mood for our entire group. From there, every member of the staff continued to make us feel welcome. The bartender kept us laughing, celebrated with us by pouring shots, and made the experience so much fun. The front host (I'm so sorry I forgot your name!) also checked in on us and made sure we were having a great time. Even the security guard went above and beyond... he held his flashlight up while we were taking pictures so we could have the best lighting for our photos. It may seem like a small gesture, but it perfectly showed how every single person on the team genuinely cared about making our night special. Before we left, Kirsten came back one last time just to make sure everyone was happy... I've been to a lot of restaurants, lounges, and clubs, but I've never experienced service like this, seriously. The staff at Sugar don't just provide great service... they genuinely care about people. That level of kindness is rare and honestly brings tears to my eyes, and it's something I'll never forget. The space itself was beautiful, but it felt more suited for cocktails rather than a seated dinner for a large group. We were offered another option at the Tea Room on the other side, which had more dining space. I will say the food was excellent--Asian tapas-style cuisine and everything we tried was very good. However, there still weren't enough seats for everyone, and two bridesmaids and I ended up standing for most of the dinner. They did eventually bring out two chairs, but by that point I was already a bit frustrated. Another challenge was communication with the staff. We were being charged for sparkling water when we had asked for regular water, which should have been included with our meal. I also had to remind them that our package included two drinks per person. The drinks came out slowly, while the food came out quickly. I understand accommodating a group of 20 can be challenging, and overall everything worked out with a few bumps along the way. That said, the food really was excellent.
