What an amazing little place!! Ive driven by tons of times but just recently heard about it. I bought some of their honey at a farmers market recently and it made me question what I've been calling honey all my life. They offer beekeeping classes if youre interested in starting your own hive. I am definitely signing up for the next one! The place is really nice and relaxing. There is a huge nursery on the property if you want to buy some plants, trees, or planters. The staff is super passionate about beekeeping and love showing off their in-store hive. I picked up some more honey while I was there. I cant wait to go back!! They also have a little coffee shop that I didnt get to try but look forward to doing so on my next visit. read more

I was so excited to start the Beekeepers for Veterans class. It was hands down one of the most interesting things I have EVER done. Keith and Danny were so welcoming. Their passion for beekeeping is obvious by the way they instructed us in the history of beekeeping , how important the honey bee is to is and the components you need to know to learn and eventually execute safely tend to your own beehive. Jenn gave a beautiful tea pairing outside and explained how honey brings out the natural flavors in the tea. We met the bees today and it was so fascinating. Due to the cold and windy weather we were unable to get into the hives. Hopefully next week. There is a lovely gift shop on site and of course I had to score some honey. I also bought a hat to wear to the rest of my classes. Can't wait to learn more. You must check out the Valley Hive and Topanga Nursery. Been wanting to visit this place for quite awhile until yesterday. My household got hit by the virus with sore throat and cough. I remembered to make a warm drink of honey and lemon from my backyard but was almost out. I remembered my friend bought me the honey and thought about going there. The place was really nice. They have so many varieties of real, raw honey. So i bought a couple of big bottles of the wildflower honey because the staff said it works well with seasonal allergies. I made the honey lemonade drink for my husband and he also took a teaspoonful of the raw honey. In about an hour I noticed he was no longer coughing much and was able to sleep through the whole night after almost five days of coughing at night. If you want real raw honey. This is the place to go to. I have three other honeys in my house still but the raw honey worked best. read more

I discovered this magical gem in North Chatsworth a couple years ago, as a nursery to buy great plants for my garden, but last year I discovered the amazing world of beekeeping, and this has been my go-to store for everything imaginable in the beekeeping world. They have an observation hive, just in case you're curious. But the passion for all things bees, and those lovely plants they pollinate, is where they really are a treasure. I signed up for an online beekeeping course with The Valley Hive, and this has extended to joining the LA County Beekeeper's Association. Additional FREE courses with LACBA, taught by one of the owners of The Valley Hive, and ongoing mentorship in my beekeeping journey. I highly recommend Keith and the entire staff at The Valley Hive. They are knowledgeable, compassionate, always willing to be of assistance, and their selection and pricing on garden supplies, and beekeeping supplies alike, is very reasonable. California I'm not acclimated to the local plants and trees so I decided to swing by here and grab some wildflower honey to get myself acclimated. I do about a teaspoon a day. The lady behind the counter was nice. She was helping a couple and quickly fitted to get me in and out as she saw that I didn't look like I wanted to hang out They have plants and all kinds of supplies for being a beekeeper. I highly recommend swinging by and checking out what they have. I'm sure there's a lot more. I didn't even get to since I was just there for honey. read more

I purchased my sweet, sweet girls (BEES) from the Valley Hive. They are so gentle, more than I could've ever imagined! I also took a beginning bee keeping course from them for 6 weeks. It really helped give me a baseline of knowledge and the confidence to acquire a hive which is something I've considered for years but became a clear goal when I started gardening regularly and cultivating fruit trees. After reading about the declining populations and knowing I had the ability to have a hive, I wanted to give it a try. I took the course and once establishing water for my hive (a critical step), moved ahead with securing my bees. They gave instructions on installing the nuc via video and also sell all the equipment you could need if you are starting out or are an established bee keeper. Most importantly, they offer post hive support. Wow. What extraordinary service & care for their colonies! Because that's the difference, the Valley Hive does care about their bees! If you're interested, I'd recommend stopping in and seeing the observation hive they have set up. Or better yet, get some of their outstanding honey. I did, on multiple occasions because I use honey so frequently when cooking. They have great gifts. I cannot recommend Keith or the Valley Hive enough. I feel extremely fortunate to have found them during my exploration into beekeeping! He and all his team are terrific. read more

These beekeepers are the kindest most generous and welcoming people you'll meet. They are so knowledgeable about bees and beekeeping and are willing to patiently share their knowledge with you... even if you've done something stupid with your bees and are about to have a panic attack... or maybe because you're about to have a panic attack and they'd rather you didn't have it in their store. They will literally hold your hand (with consent) in their apiary while showing you how to properly inspect a frame to find the teeny, tiny eggs you've been looking for. And just like that, you'll never be scared to hold a frame of bees without gloves on again. ;) The LACBA Beekeeping 101 class series they run is excellent. Keith is an awesome and inspiring teacher and a kind and funny dude, Danny is extremely helpful with answering questions at post-class meetings, Robin is so sweet and wonderful and has walked me through all kinds of beekeeping equipment and helped me make informed decisions about what would work best for my honey harvesting needs, Gabe showed me and my kid the observation hive and has been so lovely and helpful with gathering supplies and loading gear into our car, Jen talked me off a cliff when I was freaking out over a backyard swarm and trying to decide if I should capture it and add a third hive to my backyard or let them go... after talking to Jen and Keith, I felt confident enough to capture them by myself, but by the time I got back from TVH, the feral galzzz were gone from my tree. Which leads me to the first rule of beekeeping: Bees will do what they want, not what you want them to do. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to convince them. There are other wonderful people who work at TVH and have been part of our new adventures in beekeeping, but I don't know all their names yet. Also, the Topanga Nursery is excellent... I bought everything I needed to make a whiskey half barrel watering hole my bees love, which has evolved into its own thriving ecosystem and aquatic snail paradise. Just add water and some water plants and let the magic happen. Your bees will thank you and leave your neighbors' pools alone. Pro tip: Plant some snacks around your watering hole. Bees love African basil, and these folks carry it. Shout out to the super nice plant expert who helped me at Topanga Nursery and told me about African basil pesto. So flavorful! One day I'll learn your name. Could this review be any longer? Welp, I'm not on social media, and you're looking at almost two seasons of good vibes that just got uncapped during the honey harvest. Lastly, because show and tell is the best, here's photographic evidence of the joy The Valley Hive has brought to my family's life. From our first jar of harvested honey (extracted last week!) with our little galzzz 's hives behind it (got all our bee boxes, frames and stands at TVH), to grilled chicken thighs made with TVH's Hot Honey (easy and delicious!), to the bees' watering hole. Yes, I also uploaded a picture of fruit salad. Why? Because the magical shimmery part is honey. I encourage you to try all of The Valley Hive's honeys. My favorites are their avocado honey and their orange blossom honey, my husband is big on their barley honey, and our son, Winnie the Pooh, says he "likes ALL the hunny equally." I'm a new beekeeper and have had great experiences with most of the team at Valley Hive over the past year, especially the owners, who have been kind and helpful. Unfortunately, today I had a truly disheartening experience that I can't overlook. I came in urgently needing a new queen after losing my queen and most of the colony. Instead of support, I was met with rudeness and condescension from the woman working the store. She dismissed everything I said, belittled my concerns, and gave me completely incorrect information, telling me I had "plenty of time" to replace the queen and couldn't get one until Saturday. My research, as well as previous advice from this store, tells me the opposite: time is critical when requeening. I left the store in tears, feeling humiliated and worse than when I arrived. It's hard enough managing a distressed hive without being made to feel incompetent for asking for help. Most of the staff at Valley Hive are wonderful, but one bad interaction, especially when you're in crisis, can undermine all the goodwill. If staff isn't sure of the situation or unclear on the circumstances, they should say so and recommend that I consult someone more knowledgeable, not mislead customers with false confidence and mean superiority. I truly hope management sees this and takes it seriously. Beekeeping is hard enough. Bee kind! read more

We were at the valley hive on a special night so hard to get a true appreciation of the place! The event they had was a big success with food, drinks, raffles and dessert competition. Plus music. The store is super cute on the premises: with of course all sorts of honey related things. Very cute items.Plus there is a mega bee cone that you can watch the bees at work. They also sell plants. The plants and statues seem a bit pricey but this LA county in a busy area. If you are looking for flea infestation, then this is the place to go! We went looking for honey two Sundays ago, and then walked around the plants. We had hundreds of bugs on us! We unfortunately realized this until after we were in the car. We tried dusting them off as best we could. The fleas are now in our bed, and throughout the house. It's miserable. We love visiting the Valley Hive for honey as well as the Topanga Nursery (on the same property) for our gardening needs. Their honey is raw and super yummy. They have a bee hive in the store that you can see. They will educate you on bees which was fun for my kids. The vibe there is so calm and peaceful. Most of the staff is friendly and welcoming. It feels like a little oasis in Chatsworth. Sometimes we just visit to get out of the house. Our favorite flavor of honey is the cinnamon. It's perfect on so many things. There is a small lot to park in. But you can also park on Topanga Canyon Blvd. for an hour every day but Sunday (there is no time limit on Sundays.) read more

This is a fantastic find. I was looking to purchase real honey that's not sold at stores or Costco. I've driven by here so many times going to the 118 freeway. Finally had a chance to stop by after work. They share the parking lot with the nursery. So parking can be very limited on a busy day. I am not 100% sure that there you can park on the street or not. The store is on the smaller side, but there are a lot of honey/bee related items in there. You can sample their honey, but will need to wait for someone to assist with that. I was able to sample about 5-6 different honey and finally landed on the Orange Blossom honey, cinnamon & cacao infused honey. The clover honey is so smooth and sweet, but not overly sweet and doesn't burn my throat like the non raw honey. Definitely will be making another trip back here. read more

I love this place. But I definitely want to come back to do a workshop. Cynthia in the honey area was great. She showed me around, advised me on the types of honey and her suggestions were right on. The Buckwheat is my fave so far. I also really enjoyed walking through the connected Topanga Nursery where Matt was super helpful. You can find coupons for a free honey sample, though it won't last long, and a free small succulent, at your local farmers market if they are out there. It is a hidden gem in the area, I originally came for the honey selection yet I found myself very delightful and happy here. A great variety of local honey tastes, beautiful warm cozy shop, and staff are very knowledgeable/helpful. The nursery is truly a gem as well. Did you know there are many different types of honey?? So, I visited The Valley Hive about a month ago when I was at Topanga Nursery and decided to buy a jar of honey. I picked out the Buckwheat and walked up to the counter. The employee there was so nice!! He asked if I've had this type before and I said no. He asked if I'd like to taste it before I bought it. Definitely!! Yes!! So he tells me to try ALL of the flavors. It's like a flight of wine. You start with the lightest and end with the darkest. I don't remember all the varieties but there is Wildflower, Orange Blossom, Buckwheat and Avocado. I fell in love with the Avocado Honey. It is dark and has a molasses like flavor. Purely delicious! In fact, I finished the 1 pound jar and returned today to pick up a 2 pound. Highly recommend them!! Oh, they have cute gifts too!! read more
