Justin is the man! We ordered a State Bicycle single-speed for our son as a surprise when he came home at the end of the week. I called Justin on Tuesday, and he promised it would be in, fully tuned and ready by Friday--and it was exactly as promised, shiny and waiting for us at the shop. Meredith was incredibly welcoming and helpful when we came in to pick it up, and both Justin and Meredith took the time to make sure the bike was perfectly adjusted to fit our son. I had an issue with my front derailleur and visited 3 different bicycle shops hoping to find someone to help me. All 3 looked at it, gave me theories, but did not help me. The third shop wrench suggested The Velo and talked about your level of expertise with higher end road/gravel bikes. When I arrived Mr. Jeevan Philip welcome me and inquired about my issue. In just a matter of minutes in between helping other customers he was able to diagnosed the issue and fix it. My Bike is now shifting perfectly!!!!!!! I can't say enough good things about the Velo. I started taking my fixed gear bike to them during the beginning of the pandemic when I wanted to get a tune up and upgrade some parts. At first I kept going back for parts & install because I usually had the best luck getting appointments. At that time appointments were being booked a week out or more. After my first tune up with them I knew this was the shop for me The guys are all super friendly, and the thing I appreciate the most is they won't push you to buy the most expensive upgrade or bike. They will find the right stuff for you and your budget. Since 2020 they have worked on my gravel bike as well as helped with an upgrade to the crankset and chainring... more upgrades coming soon I also purchased my first full suspension mtb from the Velo. There's a story behind me finding what I now call the terminator. It's a Spark RC 950. I love it!! The long of the short is I thought I was dead set on finding a carbon hard tail. But after chatting with the Justin and Jason and the guys, I realized that the Spark with full suspension was going to be better for a guy pushing 37 that wants be able to play in dirt for a very very long time. Let's just say my bike left there with more problems than when I dropped it off for a first tune up. I took it right back when noticing a loud clicking/grinding noise. The person I spoke to said he didn't hear anything..did a quick check and said maybe it would work itself out. It didn't....took to another bike shop, found broken spoke and all spokes under tension with possible damage to the rear wheel. It took two weeks and two emails to get a response from the manager. I gave it two stars because they did refund the cost of the tune up..which will go towards the cost of repair. Will not go back. read more

Another great find on a day of exploring a certain block on 7th Street. One of the under-appreciated streets in Phoenix, this block scratched a number of itches in less than an hour. Bikes, tacos, cookies. Off-street parking behind the shop made this stop all the better. Phoenix has a ton of really good bike shops and a number of them are Scott Bike Dealers. I've really been impressed with the new Scott Spark after following it on IG. One of the shops is where I bought my Pivot from and I can do without the attitude so I was more than happy to drive downtown and visit The Velo, which I had heard good things about. Super friendly staff, while they didn't have the bike I was looking for (it hasn't been released, my bad) they showed me similar bikes and how the new model would be different or the same. They know their product and are rightly proud of it. Loved that they offered to help me pre-buy it and even more that they understood my desire to see it first. First class operation. When I asked for a recommendation for lunch, they spoke highly of their restaurant neighbors, Tacos Tijuana, The Main Ingredient, and Urban Cookies. Attended a "Get your PHX" & Local First Event here. Was totally blown away by the Shop, the Staff, and the Location of this new business in the heart of the new Art District. Oh, didn't you know we have one? One really cool and growing Art District . . .with small galleries, local bars and breakfast restaurants, theaters, farmers markets, and . . .a one-of-a kind bike shop! I'm not much of a biker . . . well, OK, I admit it . . . I haven't ridden a bike since I was about 15! But the dream is still there . . . and I do truly appreciate seeing beautiful bikes. Do I know anything about them? Well, actually . . . again "No"; but that is what these guys are here for . . .to teach those of us who don't know a darn thing and to support those who own half a dozen bikes and love the art of riding. Stop in and get to know them. Smell the metal & rubber (or is it plastic these days?) and talk to the experts. Get a new bike, or a tire that you blew out the last time you rode that Slippery Rock Trail in Utah, or pick up some new socks & a "T", or get them to fix that locked gear. Whatever you need in the bike world, they can do it! And . . . while you are waiting for your mode of transport to be carefully re-adjusted, they have a small cafe with coffee, beer & small bites to keep the hunger pangs down. You can sit at the shop bar and watch repairs being done. Or sit in a cozy sofa and chill when the temps are 105 outside. Of course, if you crashed your "velo" big time, it might take a little longer than a cup of espresso to get it back on its wheels! But these guys can do it! read more

Great local bike shop. Called them up to ask about a good time to bring in two old bikes for tune ups and they told me to come on down and they'd turn them around by the next day. Turned out one of the bikes shifters were jacked - which actually made me feel better about not being able to fix it myself - and they quickly obtained a replacement part and swapped it out. $90 tune up for each bike isn't cheap but is fair for a local place in the city, and so far both are riding great. read more

I decided to get back into biking so I took my rusty old bike to The Velo and that decision was one of the best I've made. I go in and tell them to just make my bike as good as new and that's what they did. It rides a lot better than what it did a few years ago when I first bought it. Also I bought a phone mount from these guys and totally forgot about it while I was in the shop. I came back the next day and here is a bag with my name on it with the phone mount plus a free hat. From the first time I set foot in the Velo I felt like an old friend, the customer service here is really outstanding. I purchased a bike from the Velo in November. Recently I brought the bike in for service, upon inspection I found out I needed a part that was backordered. The Velo's response was to loan me one of their premium demo bike, I was blown away. Very disappointed in this perfectly located bike shop downtown. Got a flat, went in for a tire change, staff was friendly, good vibe, whatever. I take the bike home, immediately get a flat after going a block down the street. I bring it back the next day, stating what happen, and am told they will have to charge me again. Needing my bike for work and being in a pinch, I decide to take a chance and agree; they 'fix' it again. This time I take it for a test spin in the parking lot before I get home. Seems fine. Sure enough, I get home, get a block down the street, flat. After $40 dollars dropped here and 2 visits, my tire tube is still flat. Very frustrating. My last tube lasted a year being properly installed and checked on regularly. I don't think this is user error. For a bike shop, you could have the greatest staff and best atmosphere, but if you can't perform a simple tire change, not sure what the point is. Definitely feeling ripped off and taken advantage of, considering there are no other bike shops this distance to downtown. read more

IMPORTANT NOTE: This review is just for the service I received. BACKGROUND I recently fixed and tuned up my bicycle at Landis Cyclery. Make sure to read my review. Once I got the bike home, I realized that my bike lock mount was cracked and wouldn't hold my current lock. When I was checking out the coffee shop Bicycle Normad, I found The Velo. Make sure to read my review of Bicycle Nomad. I took the opportunity to purchase the newest and greatest bike lock. The bike lock is lighter weight and has a double protection anti-theft protection, which I thought was awesome. Anyway, I took the lock home and it wouldn't fit with the existing set up, so I took the lock back to The Velo and brought my bike to see what could be done. SERVICE EXPERIENCE This morning, I walked in with my bike and all the parts for the bike lock and said "H E L P!!" Luckily Justin was there to the rescue. I explained my situation and he happily came up with a solution. Justin even helped me put my bike back in my car!! CONCLUSION Both of my visits to The Velo have been SOOOO positive!! Good service!! I live in Southern California. I wanted a 2017 Giant TCR. Every -- and I mean EVERY Giant-affiliated shop in Southern California couldn't get a hold of this bike in the color and size I wanted. In fact, even Giant themselves told me I'd be hard-pressed to still find this bike, with the 2018 models just about ready to go. Looked on Giant's website, and only The Velo still had my TCR. I called, and sure enough, it was still on the floor. I swooped in and paid for that like TCRs were going away tomorrow. They shipped it out to me, and I'm beyond stoked. They had packed up all nice for the trip to California and all I had to do was re-attach the front wheel and handlebar. Now, a shop that sells and ships bikes isn't that out of the ordinary. A lot of shops do. But what makes them stand out -- not just because they had the bike I wanted -- is what happened when I happened to pop in to the shop a few weeks later while out in Phoenix on business. I let one of the employees know -- maybe he's the manager -- that I was the dude who bought the TCR. Even though I'm hundreds of miles away and in another state, he made me feel like a king for coming in after having bought a bike from them. He even hooked me up with a free shirt! And this isn't even mentioning how quickly the dude on the phone took care of business for me and got my TCR ready to go. I've been to too many shops that act like you don't matter. But that I mattered to them even though I may never ever get to patronize them again means something to me. Whenever I'm in PHX, or if anyone in the area needs to know where to do bike things -- hit up The Velo. read more

Disappointing. This was my first time to this bike shop and I truly feel that they don't want my business. I dropped my bike off on a Monday for a tune-up prior to the Tour de Mesa. I was told it would be ready by Thursday. I called Thursday afternoon and was told that they hadn't looked at it yet; they'd been too busy with a triathlon team. I went in person the following afternoon and was told again, that they hadn't looked at it - that they would do the work and give me a call. I know I'm not a member of a tri-team or a pro rider but that's just poor customer service. read more

And so here's what I have to say: I don't recall a time I've had worse customer service anywhere, for anything. Been to most, if not all, bike shops in the valley and there are so many great spots! What an interesting little coffee shop.... Let me start by saying the people who work here are awesome! They are super friendly and helpful. I've been wanting to check Velo out for awhile, but never made it in until recently. The Velo specializes in a drink that involves putting a shot of espresso in a coconut. This was a very tasty and surprisingly satisfying drink. I also tried their 'shakerato.' What the *** is that, you may ask. Well.... it's pretty much sugar and espresso served cold.... you can add a little milk if you like. It was very tasty! I would definitely go back for this drink. I stopped in here for the first time on Wednesday to get the rear wheel of my bike checked out. The atmosphere inside was wonderful! A much larger space inside than I expected with a small coffee shop as well. I was seen right away by a very easy going employee and had my bike checked out. Was quoted a very reasonable price for the repair and was told it would be ready on Friday. To my surprise, I got a call Thursday afternoon stating my bike was all set to be picked up. I was psyched! Great service and atmosphere. After riding my bike following the repair I can say that the quality is there in the maintenance as well. I wiill definitely return! read more

WOW! Made a Yelp just for my wonderful experience here! What a fantastic experience. My husband and I came in on the weekend while waiting around for Matt's Big Breakfast. He's a bike enthusiast, so the bike half was great for him. Jason and Jake were especially accommodating. He loved the selection available and the knowledgeable staff. I, on the other hand, went for some coffee. There was a cute young girl and a blonde guy working, and both seemed eager to serve and we're quite the lively duo. I got a latte for me, and a pour over for my husband. My latte was delicious! My hubby also enjoyed his pour over (I even got a full explanation of what that was), although as I said, he was immersed in the bikes. The service was speedy and friendly. I will be back! If you like bikes and coffee, this is the place for you. It's a great concept. Be sure to ask for Jason and Jake (and if you want coffee, look for the cute lively duo!) My only suggestion would be for there to be more of a food selection beyond granola bars in the cafe, because I think we would have completely skipped matts if that had been the case. Holy Cow!!!!! Talk about COOL....what a cool vibe. They have really good bikes, amazing bikes, and even cool funky fun bikes. But that's not all....no no no. They also have a Kambucha bar.
