What can I say about the Venue... I lived in Sumter in 2005-2007 and Sarah Beth was my go to lady... She is one of the few people in the world who could do my hair... Seriously, top 3 in the world. I was in town staying with friends before leaving the country again and stopped in to see if she was still there... Man am I lucky! Not only is she still there, but she fit me in last minute before my trip. Even better? How many hairdressers do you know that keep a client book that goes back 10 years? She does... We needed to repeat a process we did back then and she had the exact formula we used. How can I not love this place? It's still cute, still smells good, still does trendy hair and it's still in Sumter. I'm moving back to SC... I'll be making the drive to Sumter to see Sarah Beth and get my hair done! read more

I've had mall haircuts most of my life and they've always been hit or miss. In 2007, I decided to try a real salon. It was great even though I was spending a minimum of $70 each visit. I quickly got used to quality haircuts. Sooooo, when I moved to Sumter, I was nervous because it does not look like a place with good salons. I figured that I would have to get my hair done in Columbia. However, I read a review of the Venue and gave it a shot. When I went there, I asked for a stylist with modern, cutting-edge skills. I didn't want a crazy hairstyle, but I did want someone who had some serious training. They suggested Michael B. He is awesome! And, I've heard only good things about the rest of the stylists. My haircut usually costs $35 plus tip, which I feel is a bargain. read more

This is the only place I got to get my hair cut even though we have to drive 30 min to get there! It smells good in there all the time like hair products and the people are all sooooo nice. Recently visited the Venue (an Aveda salon) as I was looking for a new hairdresser. I called to make an appointment and was fit in the same week. Not much has changed since 2007, as the previous reviewer mentioned, outside is very plain. But once inside, it's chic, clean and what you would expect of a higher end salon. I only needed a shampoo and cut so the entire appointment took a little less than 30 minutes and I was able to fit it in during my lunch hour. I had Louie, the owner, who assessed my hair - layers, texture, health - and gave me a recommendation. I am not overly fussy with my hair, despite it being very curly and easily prone to frizz, so I trusted him as the expert to make it look it's best. My only requirement was to keep the length since I want an updo for my wedding. Overall, Louie did a great job and even sent me off with a couple of free samples to see how I like the products they offer. I definitely appreciate that I wasn't pushed to purchase products during my visit. I will definitely return to the Venue Salon. Also, they do offer other services - including massage, waxing, mani/pedi - I plan to check those out in the future as well. read more

My stylist Candis did an amazing job on my hair. I told her what I wanted and she recommended different things and my hair turned out AMAZING!! The atmosphere was calm and laid back. This place is pretty and it smells nice cause it's a Aveda salon but my hair dresser was only so so. First off the front desk acted more concerned with chatting than serving me. Then my hairdresser was sort of rude and rushed a lot. She didn't use the shampoo I asked for saying she liked "this" one better. Well the one she chose was terrible and really overwhelming with scent! I had to wash my hair as soon as I got home. The whole time she seemed in a rush. She did an OK job but it wasn't anything special and she hurried and I could tell. The final product had no finesse or blending. Also she undercut my hair! I haven't had an undercut since I was 10 and wore a really shot bob. (My hair is in a long bob almost down to my shoulders). What made me the most mad about the whole thing was I told her at length how important it was for me to be able to put my hair up at the end of the day, she agreed saying that's how she unwinds yet she undercut me so short that for a month I had undercut hair too short to even clip up and for be next 3 months I had to clip up a hand full of hair each night under my pony tail. All in all I wasn't impressed! I listened to a friend and found a way better hair dresser named Nick at a salon called Daye Lynn. read more

I just moved to town looking for a new hair dresser and found Michael at the Venue. I went in with an overall idea of what I wanted. Michael gave me suggestions and we developed a plan. He was helpful and made sure I was comfortable with his vision. My color, cut, and style was perfect! He was very friendly. Gave me advice about places to go in town and even offered me refreshments while I waited on my color to set. The salon had a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere and reasonable prices. I'm very surprised there's only one review about the Venue. There should be many more! I've been having my hair done by Louie for over a year now and I've never ever walked out with a bad cut or color. So often your hair looks great until you wash it and try to style it like your stylist did. Not the case here. I am not talented when it comes to doing my hair so when I can make it look almost as good as Louie did, you know that's the sign of a great cut! Louie is a great stylist and a wonderful person. It takes him 2 1/2 hours to do my hair and while I've never had anyone else in the salon work on my hair, I've had lots of time to look at the "before" and "after" while I'm sitting in the chair and there isn't one person in there that I would have any qualms about. If you're not happy with your stylist or are new in town and need someone to cut, I recommend the Venue. read more
