We couldn't find door 9 which was frustrating late at night with no one to call. It was the only door inside another door where both 9&10 were. Once in the room someone else's food was in the fridge. We needed the fridge to put food in and had no choice to put our food in a fridge that was not cleaned out. The fridge and A/C tan all night and that bothered my husband. The rest of the room looked clean, the beds were pretty comfortable. You have to remember your at an older motel, so it was dated. The other issue was in the morning a big dog ran at me growled and barked. I'm very nervous with dogs I don't know. The owner did not pick up on the fact that the dog terrified me... he just said no but did not grab the dog. Despite those things I do feel as though Arthur tries to make you comfortable, he apologized for the food in the fridge. It is quaint and it's beautiful hill country. I also learned the next morning that he drew a map on the envelope for where to find our room. I would have appreciated if he had described it over the phone. I can see the effort that was made. They do bring you coffee and cream in the morning and we were brought cookies. Having a fridge that was not cleaned out led me to wonder how well everything else is cleaned. I don't mind dated as long as it's clean and comfortable. There's room for improvement.

However, the management is always very friendly, and the prices just can't be beat - around $35 for a single! Compare this to any other hotel in the Mineral Point / Dodgeville area ... you'll be lucky to find any other one for $80 or $90. It's also well-maintained - the rooms are always clean and stocked with towels. The ones I've had all had microwaves and mini-fridges, too. The manager was even kind enough to leave some sheets on the floor by the door on a muddy day in order for our dog to get in the door before we toweled her off. If you don't mind "roughing it" a little - Dairyland Motel is the place to go!

Several men were drinking in the hallway outside my room-go to the parking lot or someone else's room??! The hotel advertises a "24-hour cancellation policy," but I was told it only applies before check-in--not 24 hours before any night you want to cancel. This was NOT clearly explained at booking or check-in. When I asked to leave early the staff were unhelpful and the manager was unavailable. I was told that I would have to pay for the full five days. I had to get his staff to call the manager and talked to him on their cell phone. he was rude and dismissive. He finally agreed that he would "work it out" so that I could leave early. Then I was charged for an extra night after I had already left. The manager claimed I missed a 3 PM cancellation cutoff and cancelled at 5:37. Of course the 3pm thing was never disclosed to me. This place is poorly managed, with unclear policies and rude staff. I've disputed the charges with my credit card and reported the issue to the booking site. If you value your safety and money, avoid this hotel.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating an allowed us to check in early to get some rest. I am not sure if they know what that meant but after a very long travel day it was greatly appreciated.
