Words cannot express how fabulous my wedding turned out! To be transparent, I knew it would turn out fabulous, but the venue itself really helped in that department. It was literally everything I imagined and MORE! The customer service...PHENOMENAL! The food....PHENOMENAL! The decor....PHENOMENAL! The venue itself....PHENOMENAL! Key word here is...PHENOMENAL!!! One of the reasons we booked this venue is because it's literally a one stop shop. They do the catering, the cake, the tablecloths/place setting, bar, the set-up and clean-up! Of course we had a florist, dj, 360 Photo Booth and other crowd pleasers, but the bulk of the items that were required were provided by the venue. The Villa provides a day-of planner, which she was absolutely helpful and knowledgeable, but I wanted someone who knew me personally to advocate for me. I hired another coordinator to be my liaison for the day. I would suggest you do the same, if you're getting married. It's just good to have someone that knows you or will advocate for you when you need them. I had a few hiccups during my wedding day and expressed my concerns to management the day after. The professionalism and courtesy they provided us was extremely appreciative. From start to finish, my wedding coordinator explained everything, responded to all 5 million of my emails - in a very timely manner. Anything we were confused or didn't understand, was thoroughly explained. My original coordinator left her position, but Tracy stepped right in with both feet on the ground. If you're on the fence, give this venue a try. We had our wedding in the tent, which I believe is called the Renaissance Room. I haven't fully experienced my journey with them but I have to give a review so that others are not turned off by the past reviews. I will admit that I was scared that I had signed a contract with this company after coming to my beloved Yelp! I was reading the comments like oh geez I'm gonna need a vodka. Lol! But seriously. I think that for all the bad reviews they haven't gotten the reputation of good service they deserve! I'm impressed! I cannot think of a better spot or company that I could have chosen for my event. The cakes are to die for and the food was right on! We tried to lie to Shonda, we said we didn't like our food but since there was nothing on the plate she knew we were lying. A girl was just trying to get seconds! It was a tasting... can you blame me for trying???? Overall, my experience with Jeff has been amazing. Shonda is a doll and I can't wait for my event! I attend an anniversary gala at this venue. The event started at 7 pm. I arrived at 7:10 pm and could only find available parking way in the back. There is also a hotel nearby. I'm not sure if they share the parking lot. It looks like the venue had multiple rental space options. It's was cocktail hour when I arrived. So, I ordered a signature cocktail and helped myself to the hors d'oeuvres The appetizer presentation was lovely. There were also passed hors d'oeuvres. I wasn't able to try them. When the doors opened, each table had a numbers. The first course was already on the tables. It was a salad and a dinner roll. The salad had beautiful presentation and was delicious. The main course also have lovely presentation which included salmon, chicken roasted potatoes, and asparagus inside of a squash loop. This course did not appeal to me at all. I didn't care for the taste of any of the proteins. I did like the asparagus. I would definitely attend an event here in the future. But, I doubt that I would consider the venue to host an event. read more

However, I was in for a pleasant surprise upon entering the venue. I highly recommend you dont judge a book by its cover when considering this venue. For a modest budget it looks like you can have a decent wedding here either indoor or outdoor. The food is about average tasting for what I have experienced at most weddings. The inside and outside appears a little dated (think kinded like "big-band" banquet hall) but overall still decent and definitely clean. I would totally consider having an event here. *Its kinda hard to find. My gps got me slightly lost. Recommend that you provide your guests with clear directions. If you're looking for a venue and caterers for your wedding, give The Villa and Catering by Uptown a look. When we were planning on getting married 3.5 years ago, we looked at several locations in the DMV. My wife lived near Calverton at the time and as she was driving home, she noticed that the sign where a nasty pool hall/bar used to be had something about weddings. Being in a.....uhh...how to say this...less than scenic location with the major landmarks being a McD's, Lowe's/Sony/Whatever the heck it's called now Theaters, a Sheraton, and a CVS, and combined with the locations history, we didn't have very high hopes. I walked in one day and setup a tasting for the following evening. When we arrived for the tasting, we were blown away by the food. Allow me to indulge in a little tangent. People spend so much time on the decorations, floral arrangements, yada yada yada, but be honest. As a guest at a wedding, I know the things that people look most forward to are the bar (even better if it's open) and the food. Sure, you're there to congratulate your friends, celebrate with them, yada yada yada...but during the ceremony, these are the thoughts running through my head in order: 1) weddings never start on time. 2) the groom looks nervous. 3) awww, the bride is beautiful. 4) this ceremony sure is long...I wonder how good the food is gonna be? And I wonder if I made the right choice by choosing the beef over the chicken and fish? As a result, of utmost importance for my wedding was that the food be delicious and boy did Catering by Uptown deliver! For the tasting, they provided 6 appetizers, a filet Mignon & salmon dual entree, and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. Having gone to several tastings before this, this absolutely blew the others way. The only reservation we had about the place was that it wasn't as picturesque as my wife envisioned her wedding venue to be. I don't know jack about architecture, so all I can tell you is that the exterior looks like something from Plaza Del Mercado. They have a massive tent where you can hold the ceremony or reception, 2 lobby areas, and the ballroom is fairly basic with wood flooring and mirrors all around to give the space a larger feel. After looking at several other locations, we came back to negotiate with Catering by Uptown and to our surprise, they provided food again. This time, they provided several different Hors D'Oeuvres and the same entree and dessert. They were very flexible with the pricing and we ended up making the deal right there. Through the planning process, they were very helpful. For example, we had trouble choosing between the Hors D'Oeuvres, so they invited us in to try several that we were considering. An event planner is included in the pricing and she helped with everything from the seating chart to running the ceremony. They also provided a wedding cake and tasting with our package. The cake turned out beautifully and was incredibly delicious when we had the top layer for our 1 year anniversary. Our wedding day was perfect, save for the pouring rain. The staff was incredible that day and the food was even better - our food became the point of comparison for weddings held thereafter. The only two regrets I have are 1) not having them make us 2 platters to go, as we didn't get to savor the food b/c of all the running around and excitement and 2) not getting the chocolate fondue fountain. A friend of a friend got married there recently and they absolutely loved it. Too bad I wasn't his friend b/c I really want to go to a wedding that Uptown caters. They also cater at a beautiful waterside location in Pasadena, MD, and can cater at the Galleria, the Ballroom, and Glenview Mansion, among others. Other than the new locations, the website has remained largely unchanged, i.e., it needs an update, but don't let that deter you. If you want food that people will remember, The Villa is an excellent choice. The venue isn't the most striking or charming, but it's sufficient. I am very sad to say that I did not have the same experience as my friend Su K. My cousin got married at The Villa this weekend and after everything that happened I wouldn't recommend them to anyone for their wedding. The wedding began at 6pm. Most people started to arrive around 5:30 and they were still setting up. The "holding" area where people were waiting to enter the tent for the ceremony did not have enough room. It was also in full view of the cocktail area where they were setting up. Couldn't they set up earlier or wait till the ceremony had began? Setting up in front of wedding guests is not exactly professional. When the cocktail hour began, there were not enough places for people to sit. There weren't enough areas to stand & eat either. Some of the cocktail tables they set up were so wobbly that if you put anything on it, it would fall right over. The cocktail food was set up at a tiny little table for about 150 guests. The line for food was insane! They had passed hors d'oeuvres which most people didn't know about. They had to hunt down the people passing them out. The best part was the "Open Bar." The bartender was a complete jerk. He was slow as hell and rude to the guests. My husband asked him "How are you doing?" and his response was a curt "What do you want?" Apparently people were ordering too many drinks "on the rocks." They tried to tell us that they weren't going to allow people to order those anymore as they are the same as shots. Last time I checked a shot and Dewers on the rocks were not the same thing. If the couple paid for an open bar and spent all that money you should not be bothering them during their wedding because the guests are drinking more than you expected. My family had to intercede to keep them from bothering the bride & groom. The coordinator called the owner apparently and he said everything was fine. However, they already put a downer on the wedding after arguing with the family for several minutes. Service during dinner was also very slow and uncoordinated. There was a large gap between salad and entree. The wine was also not offered until most people were almost done with their entree. The entree was a filet and lobster tail "stuffed with crab meat." It was actually a lobster tail SHELL stuffed with crab meat & some lobster. There was no lobster meat in it. They might as well just served a crab cake instead. The filet was cooked perfectly as were the vegetables. The worse part of the night was when we wanted to extend the reception by an hour. They wanted $2000 in cash. Are you kidding me? What kind of ghetto place demands cash? I can see them not accepting checks but cash only? and what does all that money buy? Thank god everyone had a good time. That was only because the bride & groom worked so hard and added so many personal touches to the wedding. They designed all their own tables and decorations so it was a beautiful night. Do yourselves a favor and have your event somewhere else. Don't do business with these rip off artists. I planned my own wedding and have several friends who are coordinators, florists, & photographers. The Villa was completely unprofessional. So... I'm getting married... and I hate all things that have to do with weddings... but this place take all the work out of planning a wedding... and I can just sit back and be a beautiful bride... I digress.... Every month they have a complementary food tasting open to the public! You have to rsvp, but you're basically getting a full taste of their menu for FREE! Most places charge you about $100+ for a tasting... The apps to the entrees to the deserts are awesome sauce... Dealing with the staff is a pleasure... They take all the worry out of the day... Kind of a rip off. Make sure you read the contract when you get there. No refunds on any deposit. They talk a good game but watch yourselves. With them business is business no matter your plans changing. They have no flexibility and don't discuss any situations you may be in. Please be careful and do not put a deposit down until you know for sure that everything is in place. They should be more flexible especially when people are planning special days. I'm actually the bride that the previous reviewer, cameron t, is referring to. Although she is entitled to her opinions, I absolutely can not say enough about The Villa. They were an amazing venue/catering company to work with. Like the first reviewer, Su K, I wasnt impressed with the location and outer appearance, but once inside, I knew that I wanted to have my wedding there. We had also talked to a couple people who also had their wedding at the venue (my husband's clients) and they said many positive things about The Villa from the food to the service that also made and impression on us. During our initial meeting/tasting, the staff was very attentive and not pushy at all. They presented what they had to offer in a very professional manner and by the end, we were signing our contract. During the whole wedding planning process, the two wedding coordinators I worked with were nothing but helpful. They put me at ease and took care of everything. As for the day of and Cameron's disappointment at the last minute set up, I knew before hand that they had an event that morning and would begin set ting up a couple hours before our ceremony. Being a catering company/venue I knew that there would be a chance that multiple events could be taking place during any given day. Everything was set up by the start of the ceremony, which was the beginning of when we were supposed to have the venue anyways. We had the ceremony outdoors in a tent that was absolutely beautiful. The ceiling of the tent was draped in fabric and decorated with chandeliers. During the cocktail hour, we had a staff member who made sure we had drinks and hors d'oeuvres at all times.. and my new father-in-law was definitely enjoying the food because we had to track him down for family portraits and he came out with both hands full of food :) For the start of the reception, we had 7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen and they all did a special "move" as they were being introduced so the introductions probably took a little longer than we expected. We decided to have our first dance and the best man/maid of honor toast prior to dinner being served so the actual dinner service began later than usual because of that. The salads were already placed on the tables prior to the introductions and dinner wasn't served until after the speeches and a surprise slideshow were all complete. Dinner itself was fabulous. We had a second tasting with The Villa several weeks before the wedding to finalize our meal choices. We tasted and personally chose everything that was served at the wedding. We really enjoyed the lobster tails stuffed with crabmeat and lobster. That was the favorite dish for both of us and then we decided on the filet mignon to make it a surf and turf. And yes we got to eat our dinner. My husband and I opted for a sweetheart table and our coordinator made sure we had a chance to sit and dine together. It was actually very intimate and lovely. Although I have no idea how Cameron even knew about the fee for extending our time at the venue, that was our choice to make and we knew well ahead of time the cost and came prepared in the event we wanted to stay longer. I understand that to keep the venue longer meant that all the staff members had to stay longer and clean up would be later and a lot more alcohol would be consumed. We didnt have to extend our time or pay extra if we chose not to, but like I said, we knew the fee before hand and dont regret our choice to stay. It was our wedding and I enjoyed the party until the last minute. The open bar was a must have for my husband. I understand about not wanting to serve shots at a wedding. I've never actually seen shots served at a wedding before but I was never given any problems about ordering any drink on the rocks. All the liquor was top shelf which was standard. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my experience with the Villa. I knew from the beginning i wanted to have my wedding at a more all-inclusive venue since I didnt want to have to rent caterers, rent chairs/equipment, or book everything else separately. The Villa/Catering by uptown was the complete package and cost far less than many of the hotels in the DC area. For decor, we got to pick from a wide range of colors/textures for the table clothes and chairs and there were many different options for the dinnerware. They work with a well known baker that made us the exact cake I envisioned. Everyone raved how delicious it was. They had an extensive menu of hors d'oueuvres, salads, entrees, cake flavors. For dessert, besides the wedding cake, we also had a chocolate fountain and coffee station. All in all it was a great evening. If there were any incidences, I didnt know about them and that's the way it should be. The entire wedding went off without a hitch in my eyes and although I'm sorry if my family had to deal with anything negative that night, ultimately it was our wedding and it was perfect in our eyes. read more

My fiancé and I did not have a positive experience with the Villa. The sales manager, Michael was very pushy. He kept telling us how we should sign the agreement because the Villa has the best deal and he didn't know what we were waiting for. If he wasn't so pushy, we may have signed up with the Villa with the guest count of 225. We even asked to work with another sales manager, one who was more sensitive and understood that choosing a venue is something a couple should have time to think about. Mind you, we just had the food tasting and he wanted us to sign the very next week. He also sent us an email which I am sure was a template that had the incorrect wedding date and offerings. The Villa's Grand Ballroom!!!! I had the opportunity to use this venue for my husbands 30th Black Tie Masquerade Party and it was a hit. Been to this venue twice before and was satisfied with the service. But from the beginning of the planning stages to the day of the event my Coordinator, Miranda, was spectacular. Helped with the picking out the right table linings, to the right dishes, to figuring out whether I should do open bar or closed. Very hands on... Its what I needed. Miranda was even there during the set up to make sure the grand ballroom was just right and kept asking during the event if I was ok and if everything was the way I liked. I will be using this venue for future events. Price is right, space is elegant, parking is plenty, staff if friendly, food was good and most importantly the communication with my coordinator was Superb!!! I will recommend anyone needing a venue to give The Villa a try. read more

I am the sister of the groom and they've asked me to write the review, as I interfaced with the Villa on behalf of my sister-in-law, specifically with Shonda and Elizabeth - both were phenomenal. I must say this in advance as it will frame everything that I write. I host a lot of personal parties and I have coordinated an infinite number of large events (200-2000 ppl) for my former organization, so from the beginning I walked into this experience knowing that I was entering into a contract and as such it needed to be managed as a business relationship. With that said, whenever I found a difference in what was communicated versus what was written Shonda assured me that she would take care of it and she did. This is not to say that I did not have to advocate strongly on behalf of my family. I did, but Shonda responded both effectively and professionally. We found the rental of the tent and the Uptown menu along with the accomodations for linens and glassware a great choice for the budget. The absolute gem in all of this was Elizabeth, our Day of Coordinator. She is a dream come true. Because I had worked with the Pastor at the rehearsal, I coordinated the wedding and Elizabeth coordinated the reception. She took the vision that I gave her and not only implemented it, but she took it to levels well beyond. I wish I could post a picture. I told her that my desire was to sit down during the reception and to be with my family and believe me, she forced me out and stepped in as a creative parter and quite frankly, she was genius. She made everything beautiful. Because I had purchased all of the supplemental items for the wedding, I thought I knew what it would all look like, but when I walked into the reception, I could not imagine what was before me. Elizabeth had created a winter wonderland and it was a dream. It was as though she and I had been talking for months about the vision - when in reality we'd only spoken for the last 4-5 days. Elizabeth went out of her way in countless ways to create the kind of event that we desired. I won't list all the ways that she blessed our family but you can imagine. There were, what seemed like small things, but were huge for a couple tying the knot, that didn't get communicated, like the grooms signature cocktail - Sangria (that requires a lot of fruit be prepped in advance), a bridesmaid bursting out of her dress and needing to be pinned in and finally and most importantly, she always had the view of our Wedding in mind; always thinking about when and where to put items to ensure they were ready for use. In closing, I'd simply say if you're looking to host a mid-level budgetary event, the Villa is a great choice. I recommend that you specifically ask for Shonda and Elizabeth. They are the dream team. WARNING: Don't do it, the worst place ever not worth the 13,000.00 we paid, here's the truth in full details I was so disappointed with this place, we was told we can come in and assist with the décor as early as 11 am the day of the wedding, earlier that week of the wedding when I took the decorations there I wanted to confirm that someone will be there by 11 am so I can assist with sitting up the reception room, that's when I was told I can come 11/2 hour before the wedding starts to see the room, we ask to speak with Jeff Ditter the person that told us we can come at that time, when he came out to speak with us he was not that same nice salesperson, he said he did not tell us that (what reason do we have to lie) sir that's what you told us. OK fast forward...The day of the wedding 10.08.2017 I head over to the venue and I was so upset the wedding planner had everything done wrong, I had 12 vases that needed water in them that was not done, the centerpieces I made for cocktail hour was placed everywhere except where they were supposed to be, the planner Katelyn was walking around the venue as if she had nothing to do, she was planning her own wedding for the following week therefore she was not tuned into this wedding, she could care less about the décor of the room, the mirrors that sit in the middle of the table where filthy with melted wax on them I asked her we're she going to clean them she said yes but of course she didn't, Myself along with my niece had to fill up 12 vases which we had to use the kitchen to get the water, well I wish I didn't because the kitchen was so dirty that I no longer wanted to eat the food that was being prepared for our guest. None of the severs spoke English so I couldn't ask them nothing and the coordinator was everywhere else except where she should have been. We was told earlier in the week that we will have access to easels because I had 3 different pictures that needed to be placed, well there were NO easels available, oh and lets not forget the worn out archways they use, I mean you can by them from amazon for less than 25.00 why are they still using those old dirty ones, and it's time for them to get their chairs reupholstered, by the time I finished running around trying to fixed the mess they created my makeup and hair was a total mess I needed another shower and was not sure if I was going to make it in time for my son's wedding thank God I was staying at the hotel next door otherwise I would have missed it or made it super late. As was mentioned early the food is great, the drinks are great and we didn't have to deal with any nasty attitudes or any unprofessional manner. Whe n we went they had personnel walking with trays of side orders for you to grab what you want. There was a table setup for the hor d'eurves which was set up perfectly. I loved the tent setup outdoors it had a very elegant feel about the whole wedding ceremony and the bar was open all night long. I left there feeling NICE(twisted). There is not enough space here to write down how terrible this place is. The Villa and Catering by Uptown is the absolute worst. Spent $$$$$ for my wedding which was a total waste of my time and money. The people are rude and do absolutely nothing except give you the run around.They are bullies. Some people might have had good reviews and I don't know why they didn't treat me or my then fiancé now husband with the same courtesy or just plain do their jobs and help us. My biggest regret was picking this crappy place. I bought into the hype about how they would take care of everything for you. Don't believe it. My advice to anyone reading this who is considering any of their establishments, besides not choosing this craphole is to read the contract carefully and be assertive in getting the things you paid for. If you can, ask if you can tape the conversation so that you know exactly what you are told and compare it to what you are getting because they backtrack frequently. Don't let anyone intimidate you into accepting less than what you paid for. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I would give it no stars if the option was available. read more

My daughter's wedding was at the Villa. The wedding was great. The Villa staff did a great job executing the wedding details. Our wedding planner was Shonda. I think a better title is wedding liaison. Shonda was great at responding to all our requests. There was very little proactive planning. An "average" online planning tool was provided with dates. It is up to the bride and her team to figure out what it all means, although the planner is quite responsive to all questions. Decorations were setup flawlessly. The food was great. The cake was beautiful. My only complaint is the day of coordinator. Our day of coordinator was fine and did the best job possible for someone involved on the day of. I don't think this practice works very well to work with one planner for a full year, then during the week of the wedding a new person is assigned as the day of coordinator. I think our wedding went well because Shonda helped the day of coordinator for the first half of the wedding. Bottom line - they do know what they are doing there; there are a few things that could be improved; I would use them again. read more

My daughter had her wedding ceremony and reception at the Villa, in the tent, the first week in November 2014. For the price we paid it was a below standard experience with the staff and facility. As a start, who would have known that the $10,000.00 + package we paid did not include using the facility for the dress rehearsal? That was extra. The Villa nickel and dime you for every aspect of the wedding. On the day of the event, we were running a little less than 30 minutes late. We were told that there would be two working-lighted kerosene heaters outside the ceremony/reception tent to keep folks warm. On a cold and windy November day, the heaters were not lite before the ceremony. The staff had difficulty lighting them after the ceremony was over. They did not provide the heat that we were told they would. It took the Villa staff a little less than two hours to transition from the ceremony to the reception. We were told it would take one hour. We were told that the extra time was due to the wedding starting late. Still to this day, I can't figure out how starting the wedding 30 minutes late would result in the nearly one hour additional setup time. The wedding party was not even given the opportunity to go back into the tent to take the traditional photo shots at the site where the vows were given. The Villa had two tables with about 8 chairs around them to accommodate the nearly 100 guests as they waited for the reception to be set up. The temperature in the tent during the reception was horrible. One side, near the heating system, was hot. So hot that guests requested that the ceiling fans be turned on. The other side was freezing. So cold that guests asked to turn the ceiling fans off and turn up the heat. The food was not worth the price we paid. I would not recommend this facility for a wedding. The cost is too expensive and you are told things when you sign up that does not happen the day of. The day of the event the staff is making excuses why the things you were told before the event are not happening. read more

My little sisters quinceanera was held in the Grand Ballroom at the Villa. From the moment we did our tour of the property to the moment of the clean up, everything was amazing. There were a couple of misunderstandings about the bar and menu but the staff was more than happy to come to a mutual agreement. The decoration of the Ballroom was very beautiful and elegant. All of our guests were very satisfied with the service and quality food. All the staff is very accommodating and pleasant. Won't regret having another event here. read more

I was married here at the Villa and it was such a romantic place. The food was superb, the service was great, and the planner for my wedding was awesome. This place exceeded our expectation and they made everything so easy for me as the bride and treated me and my husband with respect and worked with our budget, suggesting some things on the menu when we tasted some of the "treats" we sampled. They had so much to choose from and my stationary h'orderves were fantastic. We were married in 2006, June and people at our wedding are STILL talking about the place, THE FOOD, and the beautiful ballroom and adjoining wedding chapel. We were so grateful tor the consultations, suggestions and service that we received. Our guests were very happy with everything. This is a great place for any event that you would like to have. I would recommend The VILLA to anyone, whether you are a bride of not, it is worth having your event here. You never forget the experience. I would never recommend this venue. First you have to deal with 3 different people, a sales rep, an event coordinator (which literally does nothing), then a day of coordinator. Why do I have someone different as my event coordinator and day of coordinator? So you have to explain what you want to 3 different people. The sales rep will agree to anything to get you in the door, MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN YOUR CONTRACT, LITERALLY EVERYTHING YOU REQUEST MAKE SURE ITS IN THE CONTRACT. Then you have to repeat the same request to your event coordinator which has to get management approval (even though the sales rep agreed to it), then you have to repeat the same step for your day of coordinator. Extremely stressful especially when you have to do all of this during your wedding week. Catering by Uptown sends you a huge packet that you have to complete & sign the week of your wedding to make sure all of your details are correct, this would be amazing if they actually followed what was in the packet, but they don't. Everything I signed in my packet was not part of my wedding at all. I had the wrong wine, missing food, and vegetarians were served food with meat. After my wedding, I told them food was missing and they told me it wasn't, I then had to PROVE to them that food was missing. The Villa made a lot of promises to us that they did not keep. We were also told we would be the only event in the building and that we had rented the entire building for the evening. But, another wedding was scheduled the same night. I had requested only high top tables, then on my day, there were low top tables because the other wedding, which wasn't supposed to even be there, was using the high tops. Why wasn't this said before my wedding? Another issue I had was that I barley saw my day of coordinator throughout the event. I expected her to be around if anything was needed. On the packet you complete, it asks for names & numbers for people who the coordinator is supposed to speak to in case anything goes wrong, my day of coordinator came up to me to tell me things that were going wrong. NOT SOMETHING I WANT TO DEAL WITH ON MY WEDDING DAY. The staff is very nice throughout the process and they make it seem like they'll make it the perfect wedding, however, the day of, there was no one there taking care of the event. I sent multiple emails that were never answered, got responses to emails that answered only half of my questions. Overall, I was very disappointed with this place and would not recommend it to anyone. read more
