Visiting Challis for the first time, I ended up coming here twice for lunch. I was staying at the Northgate Inn just down the road, so it was very close by and easy to get to. On my first visit, I ordered the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap to go. It came with grilled chicken, bacon, onion, tomato, black olives, shredded cheese, ranch dressing, and honey mustard. It was really good, especially for the price. On my second visit, I dined in and ordered the veggie omelet with mushrooms and cheddar cheese, along with hash browns and sourdough toast on the side. Everything was well prepared and satisfying. Overall, this is a great value for the money. The food was consistently good, the service was pleasant, and it's a solid dining option in a small town. I also appreciated that they didn't rely on disposable plastic for everything, which was a nice bonus. I'd definitely recommend it if you're visiting Challis. read more

Food & COFFEE were great! The inside was your typical diner vibe. Comfortable enough to keep locals coming back & travelers to plan a stop when passing thru. Our waitress was good and efficient. Just a little challenging to get her to smile but she came through! The only CON was that the restroom was yucky; which always makes me want to sneak a peek into the kitchen... Checked out this dinner while staying at the hotel down the road, i was hoping it would have that small town charm and hospitality, i was sadly disappointed, the food and drinks were way overpriced, my husband and i were handed one menu for the two of us and the waitress came back to ask if we were ready to order after about two minutes even though my husband hadn't even gotten a chance to look at the menu, she seemed a bit annoyed and kept walking past us for the next few minutes after we were ready to order, i got a flavored pepsi and it was completely white from the creamer didn't taste like pepsi or carbonated soda at all i was off put by the taste and color (being that pepsi is supposed to be a dark brown) when the waitress came back to ask if we'd like anything else i asked if there was pepsi in the drink i ordered and she said yes and just walked off before we could even order food, my husband got a hot chocolate that was very clearly made from one of those cheap packets and hot water he took one sip of it and left the rest, we didn't even order food because of how poor we found the service to be, it's safe to say this dinner leaves something to be desired read more

We came during a very busy time of day on the Fourth of July. Even then we had fast kind service. We had a couple burgers, sandwich, pie and all options of potatoes. Our server was so kind and attentive and she was understanding of us having kids and all that entails. read more

Do not order coffee from their express drive through. It is terrible. My husband ordered an Americano and he took one sip and threw it out. He said it tasted like hot water. My drink was little better but it was probably because of the syrup in it. I ordered it really hot and it was not. Girl was not friendly or courteous. Never go there again. Can't believe Challis hasn't got a little espresso shop that you drive-thru with coffees, smoothies, etc. read more

One of the worst places we ate in a long while. For starters, our waitress" shirt was covered in food stains. Should have been the first clue. We ordered a peach smoothie. No peach, just sour (not entirely sure on expiration status) yogurt blended with couple drops of orange food coloring. Fish and chips - you could knock on wood with those things. Same color too. Not sure when the fryer oil was changed last. All meat omelette- eggs fried to brownish crisp, no cheese inside, slightly burned chunks of meat in there. French toast - not sure how you can make something soggy with no batter on one side. Looked like eggs were just cracked on top of bread . One bite was more than enough. Love little diners. Went to get some gas and drain our RV tanks fill our bellies. Rustic little diner, lots of locals, back slappin' going on. Fun fun. Great camaraderie. Special of the day-Tri-Tip french dip with homemade fries, homemade?? Happy to see that. She filled our drinks and we waited for our food. The interior of this restaurant could use a facelift. It clearly hasn't been updated for decades. However, the food and coffee at this establishment are made with great love. The food at the resteraunt is awesome, but, as for the motel... yeah... it's awesome too! We came up from Las Vegas to get away, and tried this awesome place. Great food, good people, and a nice place to rest your head. Little diner resteraunt with good food that's packed with locals every morning. I got the Bleu Cheese Burger, and it was the best bleu cheese burger I've ever had. Period. And the motel team has been awesome too. We threw a wrench in things trying to upgrade after We already checked in, and they were super helpful and accommodating. We got the Mountain Suite, and it's awesome with the Jacuzzi tub. I wanted to thank the staff at Village Inn for their customer service. My husband and I needed to get some change ( quarters and some singles) from a $20.00 bill. We are guests at the near by Hampton inn. The hotel told us they didn't have have any changes so we came next door here to Village Inn. The staff helped us to break down our $20.00 with such wonderful attitude. While we were waiting we saw their fantastic pies and took some pictures. With the great friendly service and the delicious looking food my husband and I will come back to this restaurant many times. All restaurants should have staff like this place. One of the best places to eat in Challis. It's a cafe all the usual grub on menu. But food is cooked right and since the new owners took over is way better then before. A lot of restaurants closed up since covid. Since then this place is my go to. read more

Typical greasy spoon fare, typical western decor. The coffee drive-thru is good and makes a mean breakfast burrito. Sadly, they use Styrofoam containers for to-go orders. That's bad for the environment and they'd probably save money switching to eco friendly packaging. read more

Everything is relative. This restaurant would probably only rate a three if it were in a larger town, but in Challis Idaho, it's a solid four! I had a chili burger, it was decent and I had homemade Idaho french fries, they were excellent. They have an OK selection of beer in bottles, nothing on tap. If you like donuts, try a Spudnut, I thought it was pretty good. Service was friendly and quick. We also ate breakfast there the next morning. The clerk at the gas station recommended this place, along with the Y-Inn. As this was closer I gave it a try. Service wasn't super fast, but the staff was friendly, and most of the customers were locals - always a good sign. The menu was mostly burgers, sandwiches, salads, and breakfast. I wanted to like this homey little restaurant, but I just can't recommend it. They were either short-staffed, or woefully unprepared for a summer evening supper crowd. It took forever for either of the front staff to acknowledge us (or anyone) who came in. The poor waitress was disorganized and trying to cover too many tables. All three of our meals were wrong--she added chicken strips to my son's order instead of bacon (on his burger), my daughter's sandwich had mayo on it (we asked for it plain), and I got a cheeseburger instead of a hamburger. I can't eat cheese. Instead of rushing a new order, I watched a large party get their orders before my new burger arrived. The burger was not very good. I asked for ketchup and never did receive it (why is it not on the table?). In apology for my excruciatingly long wait, the waitress took 20% off my bill. However, in addition to the food we ordered, she added two cheeseburgers! I re-totaled the bill and did not leave a tip. Left the exact amount on the table, grabbed a go box, and took my fries with me. The only nice thing I can say is that the fries are good. read more
