Went here because I was craving the Avgolemeno soup (creamy chicken rice soup). It's delicious, if you haven't had it please go try it! I ordered a strawberry daiquiri because theirs are good and they're hard to find elsewhere. Their mai tai's are also delicious. We ordered the berry nut salad to share. We get it with the raspberry vinaigrette. I got the Mac & cheese as my main and it was mid. It was barely even warm when it came out. It actually upset my stomach afterwards. I feel kinda bad giving low star reviews but I really cannot justify more. I have been here twice for lunch and once for drinks with friends. The drinks were ok and the pretzel was good, but it's hard to screw up a pretzel and beer. So both times I had lunch with fries the fries were cold. The first time the waitress (server) never came back for almost an hour so I just ate what I could. The main was cold too. Very disappointing. Many people seem to like this place for the food, but after my second lunch visit, today, I really cannot imagine why. I got the cheeseburger lunch special, which I can tell you was special in no particular way. The fries were greasy and cold, so I told the server right away, and she wished the whole plate away where she coulda left the plate, let me eat the burger while it was hot, but no. So it comes back served the second time by a different angry faced person and I said I guess we'll try again. The fries were very hot, but greasy but ok. I ate them before the weren't hot. The burger. The most disappointing I've had in a while. The bun was chewy, the tomato grease soaked, the onions grease soaked and the lettuce partially ok. So I thought just eat the 1/4 pd patty. Not sure it was a quarter pound and even if the accompaniments were eatable I would not have tasted the burger. It was very thin and pink inside. Not the best beef I've ever had. Not even close. So although the service was fine, I gave it two try's and have to say another go will not be happening soon. It was lunch there were about 5 people there at 12:30. No excuses like it was busy so things get overlooked. So, although I feel bad about 2stars, I honestly think it was well deserved. read more

My chow now order went to crystal lake store. I had to cancel and start be order in McHenry location. It took 45 minutes to make two chicken wraps and kids shrimp. Not busy. Upon arriving home one chicken wrap was completely falling apart with almost no chicken and the other wrap order was made with crispy chicken. Ive lived in McHenry for 50 years. This place has changed and detail is not considered. Do better. read more

There is plenty of parking in the lot and we were able to get a table for two easily near the bar. Hostess was friendly and server was nice and attentive. The food was ok. Cheese curds were a little cold and our chicken wrap only came with 4 onion rings. They had a man playing live music which is always a treat ! I'd return for drinks and appetizers. read more

The fired up cheese dish is so good! They always have deals on food and drink which is awesome. My favorite part is the live music. Doug Wolff is incredible! Plays a lot of the classics but good for all ages really. I love the energy in this place. Great for any chiller crowd to enjoy the night and good food. So we decided to go here for dinner After a short wait we were seated we ordered the Saganaki (Opa!) my husband chose the pork Schnitzel and Chicken Lemon Soup and I also had the same soup and a stuffed salmon special that was amazing. What can I say the village squire has been a staple in mchenry as long as I can remember and they seem to alway get it right! The dining area is a a wonder castle like ambiance. The food and signature drink the rum barrels are always amazing!! The service was a bit slower than normal but it was super busy and the waitress had a wonderful personality and attitude which made the waits ok. I would highly recommend dining here! So me and my son went to dinner. It was not as busy as I have seen in the past. It was also hot out. Our server was a great guy. Patient with us. He did have a few tables maybe to many he was running and had a big section alone. But held his own. Food was ok. We had a burger and wrap and the triple appetizer. Meet up in McHenry--Table for four long-time friends. The "Squire" was recommended by an Octogenarian couple pumping gasoline across the rows of pumps at a local station tonight. When asked what to try..."fish, fried fish, or course," was the reply from my new friends. Ok, from some regulars to our ears, and on to the Squire! So the four us met up, snapped a few selfies with some of suits of armor and assumed the chairs of McHenry aristocracy, in the entryway. It was time for some drinks and food after the Tom Foolishness. Starting of with some drinks, huge tankards of Stella Artois and Cosmopolitans, and stale popcorn, we settled on a Fried Shrimp Special, the Smothered Pork Chops, the Grecian Spiced-Salmon and a Souvlaki Chicken Skewers Dinner. Sides of huge, crisp Steak Fries, Roasted Veggies, Smashed Potatoes, Cole Slaw, and not-so-interesting canned corn, accompanied the dinner entrees. Nicely done! The standout was the Pork Chops--2 Brontosaurus-sized piggy chops where grilled to perfection! Highly recommended, and the baked potato was as big as The Hulk's fist! The other entrees were served hot, correctly, and good, just not great. The manager on duty, server and food runner were funny, efficient and solid performers. They saved this from being a 3- star rating! Keep up the good work, great bartending and making booze and dining in McHenry fun. Give them a try! I ordered online for 2 chicken breasts and loaded baked potatoes and vegetables. The quality of the chicken was like Wendy's or other fast food places. The grill marks looked too perfect as if it came from a frozen bag of chicken breasts that were premade in a factory and thrown in the microwave. The loaded baked potatoes just had melted cheese on it and no onions and no bacon on it. The roasted veggies were gross and they were this little square of zucchini and 3 pieces of red peppers. The broccoli was super tiny pieces and a very small amount. This place and amoung other restaurants are cheating out their customers by getting poor quality food. I know the difference between fast food and quality type of food. It's very expensive and this place used to be good but not anymore and it certainly wasn't worth $73 bucks with tip to have this poor quality type of food that basically tastes like fast food or something frozen bag of premade processed food. I'm not impressed at all !!! However I would be impressed to see Gordon Ramsay to visit this place among other restaurants in the McHenry county Illinois area and shape things up. Not very nice to homeless people - I was smoking a cigarette attempting to promote a fundraiser for about 12 seconds outside and was made to feel incredibly unwelcome by a lady inside. When I need help I ask for it. I don't think they quite understand how much it hurts not being able to sleep anywhere but on concrete and clay. So the wedding they aren't going to be able to ever hold in my name will be held in a field, quietly, away from all the danger of the money system. Well here we again willing to give this place another chance, why, I have no idea!! Garbeile B, find a different job! Your dirty looks and attitude will not go far in the servicing industry. The Ice Tea at this place tastes like dirt like they never clean the machine I told her that and all she did was explain that people either love it or hate. My friend ordered asked to have something on the side, order comes it's on the side of her plate under the meat!? Explain to Ms. Attitude what happen and she explain that it is on the side right under the meat!? Are you kidding me!?? Everything we asked or replied was met with a dirty look and attitude my guess she wasn't suppose to work tonight OR wasn't suppose to have our table is why we had the pleasure of Ms. Attitude as our server. The atmosphere is fun (think medieval knights and stone walls), but the food here has been mediocre. Considering the prices have gone up significantly, the quality just isn't up to par. Service here can also be pretty slow and no one seems to be in any hurry to get food out of the kitchen. read more

My husband and I are not one for reviews but we felt this one needed to be done! First Cary our server we loved her she was so friendly and bubbly and had a beautiful smile she gave me faith in the service industry again! She was a 10/10!!!!! She packed our salads for us to go as we ordered to much food and the way she packed them was amazing everything separate the croutons, bread dressing all so it would travel well she said and wouldn't get soggy and it did just that was great today for lunch! We had 2 of the Greek fest specials the Grecian pork chops and the Grecian Salomon both outstanding! All around this visit was perfect! Just returned from dinner on New Years Day at The Village Squire. We've been eating there for years and for years the quality of food and services have really disappointed my wife and me. Love the free popcorn that they used to ask if we wanted more when the bowl is emptied but not this time. Took 40 minutes from being seated to receiving a Cheeseburger and Ruben. Again, waitress just took the popcorn bowl away without asking - "Would you like another?" When the food did arrive the french fries were steaming hot... but both our sandwiches were almost cool to the touch. Clearly the food was ready long before the waitress was ready to deliver it. Also the burger came with bacon which my wife did not order, ask for now wanted. The bacon was cold. When the check came, the waitress never asked, "Was everything alright?". If she had we would have said no. But, not wanting to start a big deal I chose to wait until now. Sometimes when I complain, I feel they think I'm just looking for a discount for something free. I do well and don't need undue discounts. Furthermore, I prefer not to complain. If the food was bad a discount doesn't make it tase better. Anyway, I'm really disappointed in how the quality had gone down at this The Village Squire in McHenry. Other' I've gone to have been far better. I hope management gets this and acts upon it. All restaurants should have a secrete shopper visit them at least once a month... or loose their once loyal customers to some other better choice. read more

Two stars for good service and interesting ambiance. But the filet mignon trio was a bizzare concoction that left me extremely disappointed. I stopped in by myself after a 6 mile hike because I was hungry and wanted a nice sreak for lunch. I envisioned a typical steak trio, garlic mash potatos, and sauteed vegetables. But instead the entree was 3 pieces of soggy meat drenched in mash potato gravy. The steak was buried in a mound. At the bottom of the mound was mash potatos. On top of that, greasy vegtables. On top of that, a small, soggy soft piece of meat topped with mash potato gravy. On top of that, a little more mash potatos. On top of that shoe string onions. I deconstructed everything and ate the meat and potatos. I definitely won't bring my hiking group here for a post hike lunch and I won't be back. I'll also ask all restaurants in the future how the food is served. Maybe this is some kind of new trend to do crazy bizzare things with food? read more

I've gone in this restuarant for 30 years but haven't been in there for few months. I always enjoyed their burgers and thought I woukd stop by for one. It was the worst burger ever. It was almost like they did not press the patty and the plate and french fries were covered in the grease that dripped off the burger. The fries were overcooked as well. On and for a few years when in area we dine here. The menu is vast and offer soups and specials daily a full bar. They always serve fresh popcorn when being seated and looking over menu. They have outdoor seating in warm weather and a private room with gambling machines. The inside has a large fireplace and options to sit around bar or tables with chairs and booths. Always have had great meals here and the pricing is more than fair. Servers are friendly and efficient. My favorite dish here lately is the ribeye steak with shrimp and whiskey sauce. The whiskey sauce is so delicious we had to ask for extra. This is a great place for nice meal in Mchenry. read more

The minute we walked into this place, our feet stuck to the floor, making an od sucking sound as we proceeded to take steps. Once seated, the table was sticky. The menus were sticky. The seats we sat in were sticky. The food was atrocious. 2 orders of French Dip Sandwiches and 1 order of Potatoe Skins... all horrible. Dust hangs freely from all of their 'decorations'. The food is always good here but the reason for my review is the awesome service we have experienced twice from the waitress Carrie! She is so friendly and on top of her game! First time we had her I asked her to be our waitress because our waiter was not good. I was watching her bust her butt waiting on her tables and asked if she could please take over our table. Well I get a 1/2 hour lunch break for work, so I decided to take a look at this 1/2 price burger Monday! It is about an 8 min drive from my office about 10 min for order I figure and back on the road. Timing was excellent waitress was very attentive. The place is a bit dark- but clean. Burger was not frozen junk - juicy and cooked medium, fries were really good- I would recommend this over fast food any day of the week. Burger started out at 4.40 - add onions 1.00- add cheese 1.00, fries 1.79- coke 2.49- so $9.54 in total! Not the best I have ever had- I deducted a star for ambiance. read more
