We saw a Genesis tribute band recently and this was our first visit to The Vixen. We really like the Vixen and would love to return again! The space is big and you never felt claustrophobic despite the fact the place was pretty packed. We appreciated the fact you are seated at a table (at least for this band. I no longer enjoy standing for hours on end at a long rock show!). The bar is reasonably priced - a Lagunita's IPA was $6 or so. They seem to run the venue pretty well - no goony bouncers or shady staff lurking around. Stop in for a show if a band you like is playing here! We had a fun night at The Vixen watching the Foolhouse 90s party band. If you are a fan of 90s music, you can't go wrong seeing this band. I recently had knee surgery so opted to buy a VIP Table in the balcony so I didn't have to stand all night. I was glad I did because the band played for over 2 hours and there was also a DJ. The venue itself is dated and carpet and furniture upstairs smells musty, like an older bar. However, the view and sound from the balcony were pretty good, and we had our own little dance party upstairs. It is a walk downstairs to use the bathroom, but we appreciated that there was a bar serving drinks upstairs. During a few parts of the concert, it sounded almost like the song started off key, and we kept seeing the vocalist tap his ear, so not sure if there was an audio issue. There is parking nearby, if you arrive early enough to get a closer spot. The employees here were working hard to get everyone inside, despite the long line. Drink service in the balcony was fast. There is no separate entry for VIP. Just one long line and once you get inside are then brought to your ticket area. In all, I would say we waited outside for close to 30 minutes before we got inside for bag and ID check. read more

Concert venue that is not overly large and very fairly priced to attend. Music sounded very crisp. Drinks not very expensive! I will return. We went to see the Kenny Chesney Cover band(Kenny Live) and caught the intro act Justin Wallace. Both were good. read more

As always, the vixen delivered. Opening band Pete's diary was phenomenal. I've never heard them before. Highly recommend. I would see them again then came on the cover band jump. Very energetic. Amazing made me feel like I was at an actual Van Halen show upstairs bar in VIP. Seating area is always wonderful not having to wait on cocktails!! as always the venue was clean well organized by staff and friendly!! read more

This venue is great for enjoying shows of all different types. Comedy, local bands, it seems there is something going on there all week. Depending on the show, they may have tables, standing only or assigned seating. Front of the house is a bar with tables. The location is fabulous with assorted dining opportunities and near the Riverwalk. Large parking lot across the street as well as on street parking. read more

great venue. however the fact that bands can only play until 10:30 due to a DJ is ridiculous. the bands seem to agree.

Great stage and venue. One thing is that moshing isn't allowed probably for liability reasons. Glad I got away with it and pushed and moshed around in a pretty tough as nailz moshpit, definitely harder than anime conventions and on the level of heavy metal most pits. Still, I betcha I won't be sore tomorrow and everyone else will be! MMA makes 1 super saiyan in ANYTHING physical so mosh pits ain't much really without getting punched, taken down, or kicked. read more

Went for my first concert. I had amazing tickets. Bought them day they went on sale. But do to a technical issue they put me in a bad seat so much for buying tickets months in advance. You don't put baby in the corner . I understand it's was out of their hands but am still frustrated maybe a drink may have been a way to be a little compensated. I also spoke to the people around me and they were also displaced. They put a bar in the location they were to sit in. It was a good venue to hear a band come check it out for a show. Great Venue to have in McHenry. I would like to go more...but. Maybe its just my age, but the live music is so loud it is hard to sit through. My phone app was running over 100 decibels the entire show. Just dial it down from eleven. The layout is top notch. Bar area is very spacious. read more

I came here to perform and when I say this is a really nice venue. I learned this used to be a movie theater and I think it's really awesome how they turned it into a music venue/place that you can do comedy. The staff is phenomenal and friendly. The green room is amazing and honestly I would definitely come back here they have a nice bar and snacks! read more

I used my credit card here in which the initial charge was correct but days later another charge appeared. Not sure why this happened but now when I try to call there it strictly a voice mail, no one ever answers. I had to leave a message and email and hope someone gets back to me. Management is absolutely absurd. We drove over an hour to enjoy some comedy and get some drinks, the bartender refused to serve us. She refused to serve us due to an "expired" ID. We made the bar tender aware that the state of Illinois extended their drivers license and ID expiration dates until July 31st, 2022. This bartender continued to tell us that the managers said they could not serve us. We then asked to speak with a manager and there was a not a manager present. She tried to call the manager and the manager did not answer their phone after multiple calls. The place was also understaffed as it took us 45 min to be approached at the bar with 4 other people at it. This bartended continued to be rude to the rest of our group and said "I can't stand when people don't respect me". The vixen sure does know how to turn away business. read more

So as a international guest visiting, i have to say that visiting here has been amazing! The staff (especially Ellen, shes an absolute Gem) and the security are brilliant. Definitely helped me get out of a sticky situation. The music is always so loud and very very good! The venue and the lighting are always fun. I would not recommend this venue. I was denied water during a show they had last night. I asked for water while we were sitting at the table and one of my girlfriends also asked. We were told no. The second time we asked, we were told to go on the app and order it. We went on the app, no water was available. That is a huge liability. I then went up to the bar and asked for a water on my way out, she handed me the water,with attitude. I then asked for a managers name. I just needed to let someone know that being denied water at a bar could turn into a big problem. She would not give me anyone's name, questioned multiple times why I needed it and being in a bar it's not very easy to yell over the bar so I tried getting a little closer. At that time she swore at me and called the bouncer over to come throw me out. With all of this being said, I was the designated driver, and did not have one sip of alcohol. I was treated terribly by both the bartender and the bouncer, and I promise I will make sure that this is known. Anybody who knows me knows I'm not a complainer. I'm usually the one complementing people wherever I go and making friends. I am so appalled at how I was treated for absolutely no reason, actually, for asking for Water and the managers name. read more

Just leaving from our first time here. A woman had a seizure and they never stopped blasting the music, nor shut off the flashing lights, even when the paramedics were assisting her and taking her away in a gurney. The music was awful, did not fit the age group (mainly 30+) or vibe. The bottom floor was blocked off for 1.5 hours, and when we got down there - they still hadn't finished setting up. Maybe you have to be drunk to like this place, but my husband and I don't drink so we got the full experience sober. Needless to say, we did not enjoy. Also, I've never been to a club that allows sweats, jeans, gym shoes, and flip flops. Very odd. Felt super overdressed, even though I was underdressed compared to my old clubbing days in my teens. There was a special attire night which only my husband and I seemed to have gotten the memo on. Bad music, bad staff (said very odd things to us as we were coming in, and of course the inconsiderate DJ), and bad people. If you're a standard club goer - pass. read more
