Great Food, Great Staff, Slightly Less Than Great Bill (Thanks Trump) My Place Bar & Grill in McHenry is one of those places that looks like a regular neighborhood bar from the outside, but once you sit down and order food, you realize it is something a little different. The food is genuinely excellent. What makes this place stand out is the fusion of classic American bar food with Indian flavors. You can go the traditional route with burgers, wings, and fries, or branch out into dishes with real spice and depth like samosas, curry plates, and tikka-style options. Even Curry Pizza! The flavors are bold, unique, and far better than what you expect from a casual bar and grill. It is the kind of menu that makes you want to try something new every time you go back. The atmosphere is exactly what a good local bar should be. Friendly crowd, welcoming staff, TVs for the game, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe. We were fortunate enough to show up on Wednesday, Karaoke Night! It feels like the kind of place where regulars hang out, newcomers are welcomed, and nobody is taking themselves too seriously. Now the only small sting, the prices... The food is great, but the bill can creep up a little faster than you might expect for a bar and grill. That said, food costs everywhere have been climbing thanks to the current administration's Big Ugly Bill, inflation, tariffs, the cost of war, and the general economic circus we are all living in right now! Still, despite the bite out of my bank account, we can't blame the restaurants when everything from basic ingredients to beef to cooking oil and staffing costs more than it used to! Nevertheless, when the food is this good and the atmosphere is this easygoing, it is worth it. Bottom line: Great food, friendly staff, fun neighborhood vibe, and a menu that is way more interesting than the average bar. Prices might make you raise an eyebrow, but the flavor makes up for it. We ordered carry out, the entire meal was fantastic! Mine started with samosas and then chicken tikka masala!

Stopped in on a Friday night around 5:30 not crowded so was I bit skeptical. We sat at the bar patrons were super friendly and made a few recommendations we had the chicken Samosa App, Steak Pita with the Vindaloo sauce and Chicken chickpea wrap/roll with their creamed spinach sauce. We've been here twice in the last week for the first time visiting and another trip and loved it. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The owner greeted us both times and was very helpful with a small gluten allergy. The burger was great. Purchased the regular cheeseburger with an egg and bacon and was very good! LOVE IT! I would give a million stars if i could! I would eat here all the time if I could too, their curry is so good that I've wished I could have the recipe so many times. It might be my favorite food, but is definitely my favorite restaurant in all of mchenry. I always get the my way curry tikka masala with upgraded cilantro egg paratha bread. Hot is the perfect spice level for me, enough to make my eyes water sometimes but that's what makes it perfect. If you don't like spice like that you can order it mild too! When we first came in , The vestible and later saw restrooms were not clean. The waitress was friendly but did not really know about the food. We had a variety of food choices and standard drinks. It was a blending of indian flavors into american food. We had: Escargot- nice and plump with a blue cheese sauce. Veg Samosa- was good, the potatoes were spiced well but no peas. French fries were the good coated kind but were not hot. Beef Vindaloo- we got med spice. Sauce was ok , beef was horrible inedible, all gristle. We ordered the pacora with no egg and it came with. We had the chicken ramesh sizzler and the other chicken ramesh plate that comes with basmati rice and and bread. Both were fantastic. Chicken samosas very good. Mchenry is not a place filled with food that is very ethnic. Hands-down the best Indian food I have had in a very long time without having to drive to Schaumburg or Lombard or Vernon Hills. I tried to Reshmi pita it was absolutely fantastic. We also had chicken tikka masala it was fantastic. If you like spicy, you'll be very happy here. If you don't like spicy, they can customize and make it very little spice and it's definitely worth trying if you live in McHenry or anywhere else because it is incredibly good. We stopped by to try something new and we're extremely disappointed. There were NO prices on the menu so we were shocked to receive a $80 bill for two people not including tip. After reading so many great reviews on this place, we decided to give it a shot. My first impression upon walking in was, hmmm...kind of weird in here. Looks like it used to be an old Greek restaurant. But, we were here, so what the heck. My husband ordered the chicken tikka masala and I ordered the paneer and pea tikka masala; both mild. The food took a long time, as it was just the server (I'm assuming the owner) and the cook preparing things. We were ok with that, cause we knew everything would be fresh, but it did give me plenty of time to sit and contemplate whether I really wanted to be here or not. Our food finally arrived and we were pleasantly surprised--everything was delicious. The two tables next to us had a combination of American and Indian dishes and I heard plenty of compliments coming from them. My only complaint--restaurant itself could use a good updating. Nice relaxed place with a better-than-average selection of bottled beer. Pretty good food options also. The owner is a very nice and friendly guy. They have a nice pool table, darts, and a good jukebox. Very comfortable chairs for the slot machines. The place is clean with plenty of parking. Lots of huge TVs at the bar. They'll change one of the TVs to boxing, motorcross, snowboarding or whatever similar is available if you ask (for people not imterested in normal football/baseball). read more

Place has only been open a few days, and it is pre grand opening, so the place looks a bit sparse. I am assuming it will 'perk up' after the grand opening. Quick service (mainly because we were the only customers) and the food was fine. I had the linguini with grilled chicken. Nice garlicky flavor, not swimming in sauce or gease. Pefectly acceptable. Hubby had the angus burger, and it was also fine. Served with fries and garnished to your specifications....even a fried egg if you so choose! The owner came over and we had a nice chat. We stopped at My Place on a Friday night and we were very impressed with both the food and the service! Sue was an excellent hostess and waitress. She has a great sense of humor and she's able to make everyone feel welcome. Sue was very attentive and helpful. I had some great wine and the baked fish entree and my hubby had a Guiness and the fried fish. Both dishes were superb and came out hot and fresh. The fresh green beans were perfectly cooked and not soggy as so often is the case. We were able to meet the owner and chef Victor. He cooks every meal to order rather than having food under a warmer and it shows as the food is really fresh. We were really happy with our visit and plan to go back regularly. read more

Second time there. Went when they first opened and had about the same experience. Sat down at the bar. Bartender said she would be right there and never came. I wondered over by the door and found menus. Tammy finally came over and took drink orders. Then she disappeared again. Came back and said what will you have while looking at the cash register. I realized she was talking to us and we ordered while she punched it in to the register. Food came out in reasonable time and was GOOD! Unfortunately when we asked for the bill she said OK then decided to go mop the floor in the other room. I just don't get it. Just left. My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner. He had the salmon in Alfredo and said it melted in his mouth. I had the honey BBQ chicken which was also perfectly done. Overall, great atmosphere for a local establishment. The bartender very skilled and accommodating to our tastes. This was our 2nd time here. Took my in laws who are from out of town. Once we were seated (there was 6 of us) we waited almost 30 mins for waters. 15 mins after the server decided to acknowledge we were even there. (The seating was totally empty we were the only table) the bar had people as it was shortly before 6:30 and the World Sieries was on. So no reason for the lack of attention. Once we ordered 3 salads 2 burgers and a steak sandwich. The meals arrived and one salad came as a wrap. They did correct this, but we were only checked on one time and it wasn't even by our server. My father in. laws sandwich was burnt not blackened as the menu states (who wants to eat charcoal) the ice tea was more like colored water. When we mentioned this to our server he said and did nothing to correct the issue When we mentioned that our food and service was lousy, the server actually said That's fine you don't need to come back. Who says this? That's OK we won't be back as there are several other places in town who treat their customers as guests I would not recommend My Place to anyone and maybe if there is a change of staff including hiring a kitchen staff that can cook, we might try again. But last time I turned my back on a business it was 20 years ago and I still haven't set foot into this national chain so My Place shouldn't hold their breath for our return ... Came in on a Friday....Had fish fry & steak quesadillas...after reading other posts about portion sizes I was a little afraid but the steak quesadilla was enough for me to eat for 3 days.! For what this place is, kind of a sports bar, it has a surprisingly varied menu. It has escargot on the appetizer menu and a curry dish (which is wonderful) in the main entrée menu. There are lots of choices. The owner, Victor, is very friendly and visits his tables for suggestions. He offers to prepare anything the way you want it and is willing to make changes to any dish. My Place offers a bar setting to one side and a more family friendly restaurant style on the other side with the ever present video gaming included. The bar side is spacious and has dart boards and a pool table with plenty of seating. We live close by and are already becoming regulars. It's nice to have something on the west side of Mchenry that's consistant and reasonably priced. read more
