This is really nice and cozy restaurant but make sure to get reservation before going. Our waiter was really friendly, patient and helpful. We all had such great experiences and as a family with a toddler we had no problem at all. And of course the food was fantastic. Always a good choice for a great meal. The price and quality is very important so you feel that you didn't get ripped off. Some other restaurants have become exactly like that and we have stopped going to those places. Came here today for my 12th wedding anniversary with my wife. I did the 3 course meal which is a great price and she had the brisket beef dip which she loved. I had the lamb appetizer which was over cooked and very hard to eat even but with the butter knife they give you then followed by a Cannelloni pasta which taste amazing but the noodles were not cooked fully and still crunchy in the middle. The service from our surgery at first was great and then she was gone we sat at our table with out drinks for just over 20 min before some one else came by and when I mentioned my issues the server got snooty with me and my wife. Which at this point did not make for a great time here. When my pasta finally came back out the second time it was better than it was before minus being cold in the middle a bit. Now for the Apple Crumble Pie it was amazing melt in your mouth goodness. But not sure if it's suppose to be served hot or cold but it was still good cold. The place is very romantic and has a great vibe. Sorry for the 2 star rating but I'm being honest. If things did not get messed up and the server was more tentative I would have given more. read more

We dined here a few times this Spring and Summer and were always impressed. The interior is spacious and lovely. The short-rib hash is amazing and the only thing I order. My spouse usually has the turkey sandwich, which is surprisingly delicious for such a simple dish. The service is friendly and efficient. We also appreciate that they always had a high-chair ready for our 1-yr old and were willing to switch the poached eggs for scrambled so he could enjoy the meal with us. I want to preface this review with the note that the food here is excellent and our server was incredibly nice. I really hope the managers read this message because this is only meant as constructive criticism. First, we made a reservation for 7:15pm but our table wasn't ready for another 15 minutes. In this time, other people were sat instantly upon arrival, including groups that were the same size as ours. Even more frustrating was that there were open tables available, and we weren't offered them. We were hungry and excited to eat as our group had two birthdays. It took another 15 minutes to get our drink order taken, and it wasn't until 8:15pm until our food order was taken. I'm not one to complain, but I had to get up twice from our table to grab a server to order, and again to get a second round of drinks. Our sever looked really busy but there were many staff members standing talking to other servers. I approached one of the non-busy staff members and asked if we could put in our order and she responded with "sure, I'll tell your server". I went back to our table, but she continued just talking to her colleague and didn't make an effort to help. I think this restaurant could really benefit from an on floor manager. Some of your staff are working incredibly hard, but others do not seem to care at all. It is not reasonable for a reservation table to have to wait 15 minutes for their table, when other tables are free. The only other concern was that the second Caesar we ordered had no spice or alcohol in it. Our server was nice enough to replace it. I think this restaurant could be a five star restaurant. It just needs better organization during busy hours. We are not the only table who was feeling this way, and the restaurant is going to suffer because of it. read more

Only downside, I phoned ahead to tell them my husband has mobility issues and it was our wedding anniversary..... so that put us at a table that is three stairs up and right by the bathrooms..... so very romantic .... and three stairs are like a mountain to my husband. We couldn't decide where to go for our Anniversary but Med Grill won out. Their food never disappoints, our server Alex did a great job and we both love the ambiance - cozy and inviting. We had the pear pecan salad which has such a great dressing (we order it every time). For dinner I had the Fish Tacos - best in town, and my husband had the Smoked Chicken Garganelli - another dish that we have had many times before and is absolutely delicious. We keep saying that we should try new restaurants, but the Med Grill keeps drawing us back. read more

Came here today for lunch and I was extremely impressed with everything. Service was good, our waitress was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I like the decor and the booths were quite comfortable. The food was excellent quality - I ordered the seafood pesto linguine and it was amazing. The portion sizes were reasonable and everything in my dish was cooked perfectly. All of the flavours blended extremely well and the presentation was beautiful. I couldn't believe that something of this quality was only $16.00!! My grandpa ordered a chicken club sandwich which looked delicious - it was served on a ciabatta bun and the french fries he ordered it with were perfectly seasoned. Lots of beer choices were available and a lot of the local brands were available on tap (I recommend Race Rocks!). Will definitely be returning when I am in this area again :-) read more

My wife and I went to the Med Grill for our second anniversary dinner. She is from Victoria and said you could always get a good meal here, so away we went. It has a very tight parking lot if you drive a pickup truck, which I do. I think I saw somewhere it is a heritage building. It is a nice aged appearing structure with a nice outdoor eating area overlooking some sort of vegetation. The inside looks like it was last updated in the 70's, give or take. My wife got the Tuscan Dinner and went with the Honey Garlic Ginger Fried chicken which was more like a sweet and sour chicken. No complaints, average dinner fare. I had the 8oz NY steak, also average, over cooked but still tasty, no complaints Our server was never far away and kept our water glass and coffees topped up. Desserts came, I got a cheesecake which was very good and my wife got the wild berry tart, which as it turned out, had a dead fly in the elderflower cream. Our server apologized as you would expect and told us the manager was the one who took away the dessert and would take care of us. Bill came, and they took two dollars off the bill, the cost of the tart and gave my wife a coupon for a free appetizer in the future. I have to admit I have been fortunate in my lifetime to not have had something like this pop up in a restaurant before. My wife who waitressed for many years tells me most restaurants would have or should have comp'ed half the cost of her dinner. We are not talking wilted lettuce or coffee not hot enough here, we are talking a dead fly carcass in the food. From reading other reviews about this restaurant I see this is typical of how they deal with such matters. Come time to leave, a pickup truck parked in the spot behind me and two cars parked 6 inches away from each side of my truck. I needed a spotter and do 97 forward/reverse movements to get out of the parking spot. In summation: it was ok right up till the dead fly thing which really ruined things for my wife. It was more expensive than I expected, 68 dollars before our 2 dollar 'promo' with no alcohol being purchased, just dinner, coffee and dessert. Will we return? Maybe, but not any time soon read more

Restaurant was full on a Friday night (a neighbourhood hot spot). Made reservations for a large group of us for a special occasion and we were accommodated at a long table with no problems. Doesn't look like much from the outside but the restaurant is a designated historic building at over 100 years old (the original municipal hall of Saanich) and the atmosphere is nice and open with a west coast Mediterranean vibe. The outside terrace looks like an inviting space. Servers were young but friendly and attentive for such a large party. Most of us ordered the 4-course Tuscan Table - antipasto, soup/salad, entree, dessert - available after 4:30pm for $23-$25. A few options per course and menu changes monthly. Limited vegetarian. I have been coming to this restaurant for about 12 or so years now and that doesn't mean I went there once 12 years ago and just went again last week. I have probably been there at least 30-40 times maybe even more, I've lost count. Never once have I been even close to dissapointed. The staff have come and gone over the years however they always seem to hire the most courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. The food is fantastic and the menu is updated pretty regularly, which allows for some break in the monotony. They have a 4 course meal for 18.99 and it changes constantly so you always get to try something new. The parking is pretty tight but I always find a spot. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food, atmosphere and service. I noticed some people in other reviews complaining about it being crowded, busy and long wait times. Is that something indicative of a bad restaurant!? No way! it is a sure sign of success! read more

Through the years, it has been a natural local go-to, however mixed results on my two latest visits . . . The alfresco balcony surrounded by flowering hanging baskets is a warm summer night draw. My partner gave the lamb shank ($19) four stars because it was meaty, well flavoured and tender. My Thai Prawn Curry Garganelli ($15.50) was flavourful and creamy with nice crunch of apples and onions, red peppers, and almond. The prawns plentiful and fresh tasting. But what was I thinking - pasta was not a good fusion, it was too heavy and overbearing. This curry should be placed with jasmine or Thai rice, rice noodles or even on top of a stiff leaf or texture salad of sorts. A Fall lunch inside with friends . . . the halibut open-face sandwich ($15.50) was fishy tasting, weird sheen and flaking off the fork, like cod to me, not meaty, mild halibut. I mentioned it casually to the server and he came back from the kitchen to reassure me it was halibut however it was frozen and perhaps less than ideal tail end cut(?). I didn't want to fuss, but my friends agreed with the server for a replacement, which did taste fresher, and I let them finish it for me - still disappointed. We love going to Med Grill for a casual weekend meal. Their food is above average, and combined with their friendly staff, funky décor and also above average drink menu and I'm hooked! The Tuscan Kitchen menu (apologies if I'm saying that incorrectly) is a terrific, unique idea that I recommend to others on a frequent basis. They also have a phenomenal patio that surrounds a garden. Oh, and of course, the Med Bread -- the greatest invention since sliced... well, you get the idea. read more

Ordered Med Grill on DoorDash. Disappointing to say the least. The wife had the seafood pasta. 21 bucks and very little seafood. Like tiny bits of prawns, scallops and salmon. I had a pizza that had chicken, you know the cooked two days ago and reused variety on it. Granted thin crust pizza probably isn't going to travel well but, cold as ice and our dasher was fast. Dine in is usually fine but if this is how a decent restaurant wants to do take out well it might lose some dine in customers. read more

Take away ordering is not worth your while!! I placed an order on their website that stated they were currently having a 15-20 min wait time. I went ahead and ordered and once my credit card was charged, I received a message saying I would receive a text message giving me a pick up time. After two phone calls and more than 30 minutes, I never received a text message with a pick up time but was told my order was ready. Arrived 10 minutes later to pick it up and the order wasn't ready. No apologies and the time taken from ordering to preparation time was 1 1/4 hours!! Terrible service. Customers should be informed if the restaurant is having time delays rather than face an attitude where nobody is willing to be truthful and haven't the slightest bit of interest in providing good service. read more

Went for a birthday celebration that turned into a bad experience from the moment we entered the door. We were a table of 11 but it wasn't busy and they kept us waiting in the lobby for 20 minutes while they set the table. Finally sat down and the drink order was taken quickly but by the time the drinks came, half the table was being served food - the other half of the table got ignored. No opportunity to order, get more water or pay the bill until we flagged someone down to ask. Food was decidedly mediocre. Then they slapped an 18% gratuity on the bill because one other person popped in for a single drink. No manager to talk to and nothing but a snarky server to deal with. This is by far the best restaurant I have been to since coming to Victoria 5 years ago! The service was prompt and the waitress very attentive. The ambience was perfect. We didn't sit out on the patio but I'm sure on a warm day it would be lovely. As to our meal, compliments to the chef !! We understand that they use the students from camousen college in th kitchen. We were fortunate to sit outside at their beautiful upper level in the grand shade trees. What a superb outside for a relaxing uncomplicated meal. 2nd UPDATE: After months of boycotting this restaurant, I've since been back a dozen times or so and it's been good. Their 4-course Tuscan Table is wonderful, and at a reasonable price. Med Grill really knows their beef dishes, those seem to be the best (although I haven't ordered another burger). I'm glad I gave it another chance! We eat here regularly again now. Word of advice: ALWAYS offer a complete refund if the customer cannot eat your food. All it takes is one bad experience to drive someone away! UPDATE: Customer Service contacted me and I will give Med Grill another chance. Will post another update then. We've eaten here a half-dozen times since moving to the area 6 weeks ago. Last Wednesday (Aug 5) I was looking forward to returning to the Med Grill for a late lunch with my daughter. I was very hungry and ordered the hamburger. When it came, I took several bites and noticed that the meat was tough (but the bacon made it all taste better). The burger started tasting very bitter almost half-way through so I opened it up and the meat that was left was burned completely BLACK! There was a piece of cheddar over it, but after scraping the cheese off you could see it was burned 3 mm deep and the patty was tough like a puck. It looked like it had been cooked earlier, then reheated and burned. Seriously, what is a burger except for the meat? It's just bread and some vegetables, the meat is the most important part, especially if you are paying $14+ for one ground beef patty. It was truly disgusting, and after showing the waitress the black patty, she took off only $3.50 from our bill. That's not good enough for the sub-par food I was served. I usually can eat only half a burger and I take the other half home to eat later when I am hungry again. I had explained to the waitress that I would not have the rest of my meal later, but she didn't care and I didn't need to worry. Not only was I not hungry later, but I threw up the half burger I did eat. The burnt taste stayed in my mouth all night. read more

Stuck in a small corner by the entrance, even though a couple that walked in just ahead of us (that did not have reservations) were placed at a lovely, quieter area table. Waitress was completely non attentive. Measly portion of cedar plank salmon, 2 thin slices of carrots and dry nugget potatoes. Friend's dinner was not close to what was listed on the menu. Menu has changed, no longer offering lamb (which used to be delicious). Wrong beer was delivered and waitress insisted it was the correct one. Huge difference between an amber ale and dark matter beer. Could only get down a few sips. Tiramisu was very dry and bland. Overall service was very inadequate. This was a lovely restaurant in the past, featuring delicious reasonably priced portions, lovely ambiance for a dinner for two (very loud and had to yell across the table) and while even being busy, the service was top notch. Terrible service last night. Waitress ordered the wrong dish, Had to wait proper dish to be served, husband finished his. When correct meal arrived the portion of fish was like a 1/2 of another guest and falling apart. Basically a 22.00 meal of a few veggies and 1/2 portion of the fish. Very very disappointed. Mentioned to the waitress, and she had the manager - ADAM - come over. I explained how my meal order was taken wrong, second dish was like paying 22.00 for a few potatoes and a smashed up piece of fish. the manager did not offer much more than calamari.. yet who wants an appie after what was to be supper. I ended up asking for a salad, as I was hungry. Salad was supposed to be a very good one, yet no dressing, a few peaches and nuts. dry salad.. What was truly amazing is that the manager never came back, would not comp a tea, coffee, desert or a glass of wine.. nothing. My husband had to sit and wait this all out.. The Manager basically stayed away, the young waitress did the same. my husband and I are quite people and it was hard for me let them know in the first place our problems with their Service. This is the First time in my life we did not tip. I never complain,.. however what terrible service if you have a problem.. Adam the manager does not know how to take care of customer at all.. will not be back again. Once they mix up they run from any type of customer accommodations to keep the customer happy. very sad to be there last night. many other options out there. read more
