This comedy club venue located in the West Village area of NYC presents some of the best comedians in the country. We made a reservation that night and then stood in line for the 10pm comedy show. We were seated at a table in the back with four other couples. It was very crowded and because we were facing sideways it was so uncomfortable to view the show. Th comedians were all very funny. A two item requirement from the menu so I had a Pellegrino sparkling water $4 and a chocolate mud pie $8. Entrance fee of $15 was in the final check. Server was very efficient.

We saw Shane Gillis here before his special where he talked about the George Washington tour during covid! We also saw that one gay dude with nice hair, eyebrows, and Italian looking with like a gay Joyzy accent. He was funny too. The seating is like a rectangular view with bunch of single tables lined up in the middle splitting the layout in half. and on towards the stage. there's like club booths and chairs and shit. Layout was cool. The comedians actually come from the back and walk thru the crowd, which I thought was cool. Drinks weren't too bad nor not priced crazy. Just go there, get a cool buzz, sober up with fried shit, get prepared to be CALLED out, and take it like a champ. It's COMEDY BABY!

This is my favorite comedy club. However, I have not been to the OG comedy cellar yet. This place is well organized, the staff seemed to know exactly when to come to your table. The club itself is very spacious while still seating a lot of people inside. Many comedy clubs that I have been to have horrible cocktails but not this one. Our drinks were fantastic and I got to try Bodega Cat Whiskey for the first time. As far as the show went, the lineup was amazing and there was even a Louie CK pop in!

This was a solid group. DeCicco is a great warmup. Arcuri is a master at crowd work.

What a great experience- no joke. This is a great venue for showcase comedy instead of a headliner. Sure, sometimes you want the whole box of Lucky Charms, but sometimes the variety pack is great, even though for every five you will get the Corn Flakes or 100% Bran. I don't advise going to any show late (I normally get to shows when doors open), but we had a very good reason to get there 14 minutes before show time. OK, not really, we lost track of time watching "Love on the Spectrum". But we somehow got to the club, got into an intimidatingly long line (with dreaded breaks at driveways allowing a-wipes to cut), and still got a great seat. We shared an area, but we weren't touching knees like most Improvs I've attended. Service was great- you're lucky if you get Lars as your server. I saw him dealing with some rude people and he was always super nice. Speaking of rude people, some Australians up front kept talking, and they got booted. G'day! The talent was great. I was excited to see Jeff Arcuri who is great at crowd work. The others made me laugh. None of them made me cringe, even with an uneven crowd with weird energy. A bonus was Shane Gillis stopping by to try out some new material. He wasn't sure if the audience could deal with his jokes about kids with special needs but I was downs.

I just love the Comedy Cellar and made reservations for me and my 3 adult children on a late Sunday evening when we visited NYC in June. I normally go to the MacDougal location but they didn't have any available reservations - it was our luckiest day EVER though! They do warn you that you never know who will show up and we hit the jackpot of a lifetime! The headliner cut their show short to allow the special drop in guests the opportunity to come up....at this location, we were entertained by Chris Rock AND Dave Chappelle!!!!!! Jon Hamm must have been out for the night with them because he was there and brought them their drinks! Dave didn't want to leave the stage and our 10pm show ended way way past midnight! What a once in a lifetime experience! You just never know who will show up!

Fun atmosphere. Extremely expensive sub par drinks and bar food, but acceptable since its pretty much the only way to fund the comedy club. I think it's cool how they lock your phones away so you can actually enjoy the show. Service was good. Very nice waiters.

This Comedy Cellar location is laid out much better than the original McDougal location. It's not as narrow, more deep, so more people can see the stage better. It also has a guy on keyboard and a guy on drums which is a very nice touch. The show went smoothly and the MC was good. There were about 6 comics for the 90 minute show. After the show they were forcefully pushing us out to get ready for the next show. The food here is pretty good. I had the wings with the homemade potato chips and they were very tasty. The drinks were good too. There is a two drink/food minimum so be aware of that.

This was my second time at comedy cellar! I've been to the Macdougal location first and I lowkey like this venue more? Macdougal is the classic one thats always in movies/tv shows, and houses the big acts in general. But I like that this location is intimate yet a lot more space and it's not super cramped like MacDougal. The drinks and fries here are good and the comedians were outstanding. At some points, I was laughing so hard that I couldn't breathe. I came here with my friends who were visiting from out of town and they absolutely loved it!

Does the 2 drink minimum count as the cover charge or is it an additional $15 a person on TOP of the 2 drink minimum?

The cover charge and drink minimum are completely separate. That is basically how all comedy clubs in NYC work.

I reserved a spot online to avoid the hassle of not making the cut at the standby line. As a party of 1, I sat with another party of 1 and she was there to see Usama Siddiquee as well. What a coincidence! 2 item minimum and phones are put in a puffy mailer bag that you have on you until the rest of the show. Their beef yakitori skewers were juicy and tender! My cucumber gin drink was refreshing and not too strong. Each comedian that went up did such a great job with various styles of humor and experiences to share. I wasn't expecting a drop in but Marcello Hernandez from SNL went up and did some new material. God.. I love good surprises. Usama closed out the night strong and I was incredibly pleased with the show. Not gonna lie.. it was kismet that I got to shake their hands after their sets since my table was by the exit door. Def an evening I'll never forget!

Founded back in 1982 in a basement on MacDougal Street, and it's stayed almost exactly what it's always been: low ceilings, brick walls, candlelit tables packed close enough together that you're basically eavesdropping on the next table over whether you want to or not. Godfrey is a regular here, and he never fails to make me split my sides. He's been holding down rooms at this club for the better part of three decades at this point, and it shows every single time. Then there's the actual reason people fly in from out of town for this place: the surprise drop-ins. I got lucky and caught Kevin Hart doing a full 45-minute set for my friends visiting from out of town, completely unannounced. That's the magic of this room. Chappelle, Chris Rock, Seinfeld, half the biggest names in comedy have all quietly walked through that door to work out new material in front of a crowd that has no idea who's about to walk on stage next. Food and drinks are great, though pricey. Doesn't matter. You're paying for the room and the possibility of a night like that, and I'd happily pay triple just for the ticket alone with no food or drink involved. Only real knock: the door guys aren't especially friendly, and if you land on their bad side, they will kick you out, so tread carefully there. You also lock your phone away in a pouch the second you walk in, which sounds annoying and is actually the best part of the whole system, since it means the room is actually watching the show instead of filming it. Service moves fast and you barely notice them working around you. Just make sure you order everything you'll need up front, once the room gets going, they don't want anyone breaking the flow to flag down a waiter. A true New York institution, and worth every dollar.

He did a great job of warming things up to start and really connected well with the audience. Certainly be prepared to be called out for some good laughs as he pretty much had a great joke on everyone there. The comedians were from all over the country and from very different backgrounds of life. This place is great for any occasion at any time of the week with coworkers, couples, or big groups of friends. There was even one guy there who went alone (and was obviously was picked on by the host for that very reason). I will say the 2 drink minimum that everyone complains about isn't that bad. Typical price for NYC but certainly nothing special. Flavored margaritas (mango and blood orange) were a bit sugary. I would recommend sticking to something basic here. The only buzzkill was the random $10 service charge, which we didn't see noted anywhere like the 2 drink minimum notices everywhere but maybe we didn't looking hard enough. Nonetheless, we had a great time and will be back for more laughs!
